Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—” Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

Gauss keeps a cautionary distance, clutching his leather bag and coat to himself.
"I carry with me an ancient text, it will be of great interest of you, I'm sure. This will bring great change. If I can manage it."
Gauss pauses, his jaw tightening as he studies the womans face.
Taking a careful step forward, Gauss slowly sinks into the cushion.
Gauss swallows, then continues "Do you think these people are ready for the truth?"
Backstory segment :
Gauss comes from a small coastal village, where his mother taught him to read and write. When he was seventeen, the Pell family got into a heated disagreement with the local church. His mother entrusted an old, leather-bound book, and he left home to avoid prosecution.
Now a vagabond, he looks for a place where his doctrine may be accepted.
