Alanis was born in 1754 as the only son to wandering traders (father: Helias, mother: Plenia) on the way south from Curon to Gladewyn. As a child, all he knew was travelling around with his family ,various children he met when his family stopped to do business, and what his mother parents taught him about a hard work ethic and the benefit to honest labor. When he was 12, his father (who was a soldier who fled during the Orenian-Mokh-urak war, later deserting from a group during the Conquest of Ruswick) killed Plenia in a moment of madness then fled, leaving Alanis to fend for himself. Now he works as a merchant trying to make his way in the world. After grabbing some books and provisions from the cart that was just his home, he fled. Eventually he found a farm he hid out near and taught himself everything in his books. After the farm he found another travelling merchant (Ulfric Pleon) to work for, which he left after 5 years. At 18,  he started trading on his own, and was somewhat successful at it, until he was robbed shortly before his 20^th birthday of everything he had. Now he is looking for a place to settle so highwaymen couldn’t rob him once again.
