Dunkis was born in Gorgoroth, in Mordor, the younger brother of Dulog, a strong warrior. While his brother struggled as a fighter, Dunkis spent his time devoted to artisan work as a craftsman. Despite his slow demeanor and general lack of intelligence, he proved to be very sufficient at building structures and following diagrams. His body was smaller and weaker for an Orc, but still more than large enough to be a mason. When his brother came into a substantial sum of money from arena fighting, the pair set off to stake a claim in San'Raakh and make fortunes as a mercenary and contractor duo. In spite of their strange attitudes and general dimness, the pair seem to succeed by brute force alone.

They duck into one of the shacks, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the small room, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town?" She begins, then pauses to study their face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a chair, “Where do you come from? What do you hope to make of yourself?”
