Giftig followed his ancestors into the craft of smithing, but has been curious about the metalwork he has seen that was made by the other races, thus incurring some prejudice from those of his clan who prefer to adhere to the classic and traditional. Giftig managed to keep his views to himself while training as an apprentice but as soon as he became a journeyman he packed up a bag of tools and set off to find human and elvish smiths willing to teach him their forms, art and methods.
He is an exceptional draftsman for mechanical forms, but is still working to achieve the same skill when drawing living things.
