Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
I squint my eyes taking in her face before I inspect the surroundings. "I assume you're the one who sent me the letter." I say, breaking my high alert stance before taking a seat.
"Gosh, my story? I wish it wasn't that interesting." I say with a sigh "I guess I had a good life. Grew up in a close village with other wood elfs, everyone loves everyone there, it was heaven for me. I was walking around my secret flower garden when I met him, Arthur." I smiled, looking down at my fidgeting hands. "He was a human, a kind, compassionate man. He loved the nature, the flowers as much as I do. He was the love of my life, my village accepts him like he was already a part of us." I chuckled weakly, smiling to myself.
"I wanted to marry him- God, I wanted to be with him forever." I sobbed quietly. "It'll never happen." I whisper, mainly to myself. "Bandits came, burned down houses, the trees, the people, him." I choked out. "They burned him, everyone, everything down." I told the lady. "I was out collecting flowers for my proposal to him. I shouldn't have. I should've stayed with him that day." A tear drop rolled down my face before more followed, my ears lowering. "I ran to our home, I found him stuck under fallen parts of our home. I tried to save him, I really did. He told me to stop. He told me to not be angry at humans. He told me that he loves me." I bawled, repeatedly wiping my never ending tears. "I love him, he was my world, he was my everything. And I couldn't save him. I couldn't save anyone..." I mumbled, clutching the golden heart hanging on my necklace.
"He wanted me to forgive them, the bandits, the humans. I didn't want to, but he was a human, the kindest person I've ever knew. And I believe that, despite there are horrible people in the world, there will be someone as kind and lovely as him out there in the world, who deserves kindness back." I finish my story with a final wipe of my tear stained face.
I look back at the old lady looking back at me. "Now I just wonder around. Sharing nature and kindness he once did." I say wearily.
