In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Powergaming is carrying out actions that would be infeasible or impossible to achieve through in-lore means or means available to your character.

Vilhjálmr's story begins in the Kingdom of Norland, born to Aksel and Lilian Eldevik near Morsgrad. With both of them being soldiers and his father being a hunter of small renown, Vilhjálmr was exposed to a childhood filled with combat training and skills his father deemed necessary for him to survive in the wild. His childhood was spent as a figure of diminutive stature compared to the others around him, growing in him a fierce desire to prove himself and to live up to the shadow of his father. When he was old enough he enlisted in the Northguard for a time, serving until he met his future wife. Married young at the age of 21, Vilhjálmr would have little time at all to settle into his new life, with his wife taken from him barely after he'd turned 22. Driven by grief and in search of a higher purpose, Vilhjálmr turned his sights elsewhere, taking up mercenary work and wayfaring into foreign lands.
