Character Backstory: Kaelen "The Moon-Blind" Velnar
The Origins Kaelen was born in the subterranean depths of the old Mali’ker territories, raised under the strict discipline of the Sentinels—warriors sworn to protect the Ker from the horrors of the Deep and the corruption of the Void. Unlike his peers, Kaelen possessed a peculiar "sensitivity" to the Moon's phases; he claimed he could hear the "whisper of the tides" even miles underground.
The Tragedy Years ago, during a Voidal breach in a remote mining outpost, Kaelen was tasked with holding the line. He chose to save a group of civilian refugees over securing a sacred Lunar Relic. The relic was shattered, and while the people lived, Kaelen was branded "Moon-Blind"—a metaphorical exile. He wasn't banished from the city, but he was stripped of his rank and told he had "turned his back on the light of Luara to chase shadows."
Current Motivation Kaelen now wanders the surface of Aevos (or the current map) as a mercenary and monster hunter. He seeks to prove that protecting the people of Malin is the truest form of worship, even if the High Priesthood disagrees. He carries a shattered fragment of the relic he failed to protect, embedded in the hilt of his blade.
Roleplay Scenario: The Silver and the Silt
Setting: A dimly lit tavern on the outskirts of a bustling human city or a quiet corner of Nor’Asath. The air is thick with the smell of pipeweed and stale ale.
The Setup: You (as Kaelen) are sitting in the corner, meticulously cleaning a curved obsidian dagger. A young, frantic Mali'a (Wood Elf) or human traveler approaches your table. They’ve heard rumors of a "shadow-skulker" who knows how to track things that don't want to be found.
The Hook: A local village has been losing livestock—and now a child—to a creature that only hunts when the moon is a sliver in the sky. The locals think it’s a ghost; you suspect it’s a Voidal Horror that slipped through the cracks.
