    In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: yet another google search: trying to play the game to get a certain goal

Born to a large clanless family Urlug was used to being around other goblins. Being a small goblin he didnt get much attention. He grew up in Atlas and only interacted with his family, That is until the age of 18, Urlug was sent out to do his daily chores when a large Olog emerged from the woodland near his house. The immediate fear that the beast caused made Urlug's minds completely useless. The Olog looked wild and hungry. Urlug hid in nearby foliage to avoid detection. Urlug could only watch as his brothers and sisters left the house, and were spotted by the Olog. Urlug grabbed a nearby branch and tried to attack the Olog before it could hurt his family. The Olog saw him coming and knocked him unconscious in one swift punch. Once the Olog was done slaughtering the family of goblins it returned into the woods, completely forgetting about the unconscious Urlug. Urlug awoke to find his family dead. With a new found hatred for Ologs  Urlug left his home and headed for any place to escape the horrors of his past. Urlag begins to search for any settlement that will accpet him.

Roleplay Scenario: The traveller has just arrived in a small town. As they look around, their gaze is met with run down houses and shops. They duck into one of the shacks, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the small room, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town?" She begins, then pauses to study their face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a chair, “Where do you come from? What do you hope to make of yourself?”
