Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

I don’t sit immediately.
My eyes move first — candles that float without wax dripping, shadows that move a second too late, the way her fingers curl like she’s already holding something unseen. Only then do I step forward.
I lower myself onto the cushion, slow and deliberate.
“I doubt you’ve been expecting me,” I say calmly. “You’ve been expecting someone.”
A brief pause. My gaze doesn’t leave hers.
“I don’t wander into dying towns by accident. Something pulled me here. Dreams. Whispers in places where there shouldn’t be sound. And now I find a woman who claims she knew I was coming.”
I lean forward slightly, elbows resting on my knees.
“So let’s not waste each other’s time. If you know who I am… then tell me why I’m here.”
