Neolani had a happy childhood. But Her parents were very secretive, not letting her or her brother in big crowds. But she hasn’t seen her brother for many years now. She was born in Aegrothond, or otherwise known as the Isles of Almenor. Everyday she and her father went hunting whilst her brother and her mother stayed home and crafted. Her parents were strong believers in self sufficiency, everything they had they collected/made themselves. They would always tell Neolani ‘never trust anyone with tasks of your own’, which is why even today she is very independant and finds it hard to trust and open up to people. Since childhood she was always very adventurous, often running ahead of her father and getting in trouble. They lived in a small but cosy house. Growing up she was very lonely, but after venturing further she met her new friend. Unfortunately, she had to keep their friendship a secret due to her overprotective parents.
One day, as the two friends were playing where they weren’t supposed to, her friend fell down and broke her leg. Both the city guard and her friend’s parents got involved. When Neolani returned home the guards had informed her parents, and they were furious. It was the final straw. Out of rage, her family outcasted her. They then took her brother and relocated to another settlement, she never bothered to find out which. Neolani had no family and no home. she was forced to beg on the streets.
Luckily, a wood elven family of three passing by took her in, fed her and treated her like one of their own. For many years she stayed with them, as their second daughter. Happier than she ever was before. they took her in because their culture was based around two pillars faith and family. They taught her elnarnsae’ame, their religion, and the two deities: the Aenguls Cerridwen and Cernunnos. Neolani especially liked Cernunnos, as he is the Father of the Hunt. she learnt the importance of living beings respecting nature, and that everyone should live in harmony with nature. This is why she is so passionate about it.
Being an amateur woodworker earnt her some respect, and her wood elven family (not by blood) taught her more, how to make bows and swords. Her bow she still carries with her. However, as the years passed she felt like more of a burden to the parents who were struggling to take care of two children. Acknowledging this, she then decided to begin her own adventures. She wanted to find herself. Neolani became a wayfarer, she travelled from settlement to settlement. Using her skills learnt from both her family by blood and by love, she was able to travel safely. Neolani wasn’t sure if she travelled for enjoyment or for the yearning to find her past family.
Eventually, Neolani came to the realisation that although she was not wood elf by blood, she was by heart and spirit, feeling more at home with the wood elven culture of faith and family. After many lonely years of travelling, Neolani decided to make the journey back home to Aegrothond to begin a new chapter in her life.
Neolani was shocked by the loudness of this new city, everywhere was crowded. Shouting rang in her ears, and as she looked up she spied a towering fortress in the distance. One hand hovering above her quiver and her other reaching for a feathered arrow as the man approached her. Rather shocked at the mans invasive queries, “I don’t see how it is any of your business,” she said tightly. “But since you asked, I am looking for a permanent place in this city to stay. Know anywhere?”
She didn’t let her guard down, eyes sticking to the man’s changing facial expressions. Her bluntness that took him by surprise was due to the fact that she hadn’t conversed with a human for a few months. Waiting for him to reply she silently apologised in her head for her rudeness, and watched as his mouth thinned into a line.
