I am a bastard of a Wood Elf dad and a High Elf mom. We lived together until I was 7 years old. I was always mistreated by the High Elf’s. Then one day the community of the high Elf’s though I was not pure enough, because I am an inbreed. So they kicked me out. I had to survive all on my own. To survive I had to steal food and money from the rich I had nothing. The only thing I was good at was stealing I had been doing it for three years. I was so good at it my fellow thief’s called me scippy, because I always skip going to jail. When I was ten I tried to steal from an old butcher. This person was unfortunately a trained man in combat and had me down in a second. I was knocked out cold. When I woke up I was in the old butchers house. He said he would adopted me and I thanked him this was an opportunity I could not miss. He trained me with a knife and I became deadly if I had a knife. One day when I came back from killing a boar (for the butcher shop) my whole village was on fire. A group of Orcs had been here and slaughtered all the villagers. Then I saw my old man lying there on the ground with ten orcs dead next to him. He told me to run as fast as I could and get away from that place. This was two years ago now I am 16. I am going to join the army and become the greatest war hero that ever lived.

They duck into one of the shacks, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the small room, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town?" She begins, then pauses to study their face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a chair, “Where do you come from? What do you hope to make of yourself?”
