Valamir was born to an impoverished family in dobrov. He is the younger brother of Elias Gotthold. When he was little Valamir was pushed around in Dobrov and mocked for his family's lack of wealth. One day he met a thief that asked if he wanted to earn some mina, desperate for any type of income he agreed and was asked to steal a chain from a local vendor. Once Valamir approached the vendor he asked if he could sell him an apple that was behind the vendor. But still wanting to earn the mina Once the man turned around to grab the apple he took the chain that the man kept at his stall and ran. Valamir gave it to the thief the next day where he would be awarded 10 mina. For the first time in his life Valamir held money in his hands and saw a way forward. From then on he would continue to cooperate with shady individuals in order to earn his way up in the world.

After several jobs Valamir had become quite accustomed to this new shady lifestyle, but something was missing. While he could earn mina this way it wasn't consistent and would normally be wasted on food the same day making it very hard to invest in proper necessities. One day however he would be given a job to steal some tomes from a visiting scholar, the reward for this one was bigger than any of his other jobs and Valamir wondered why. Once he stole the tomes his curiosity led him to opening them and reading their contents. They spoke of the most fascinating things, ways in which people used elemental forces to grow crops, fly through the skies and even demolish cities. Such power made a great impact on young Valamir for if he was able to learn these “magics” then he may finally be the one to stand on top and take full control of his life and destiny. He vowed that day that no matter the cost he would set out and learn all he can about magic and become someone others wouldn't think to go against or disrespect. He wanted to have power.

Valamir would later take jobs that had to do with practitioners of magic in hopes to learn some himself. He would at times go out of his way to pickpocket scholars in hopes of gaining new information about this wondrous art he had discovered. Most of this was kept away from his older brother since he didn't want to make him worry since he was already working himself to the bone to make sure they could have a place to sleep. Over time however his brother would start to take note of his actions but would turn a blind eye to his activities, hoping it would all change in the future. 

With the rise of the Harvest Lands and the heated atmosphere around Dobrov, his brother, Elias, saw a newfound opportunity. “Everyone a king”, they said. These words stuck to Elias as he pondered a new life that could be. Elias foresaw the downfall of Dobrov and proposed to his brother that they flee to the new Harvest Lands. Valamir, already thinking of setting out in hopes of learning magic, agreed with his brother's plan. With Valamir in tow, the brothers made their way away from Dobrov, hoping that by the time the criminal syndicates realized their desertion, they would be long gone from this world. Taking a few extra precautions, like hiding their family name and arming themselves slightly, they made way for Acre, where their hope for a new life could be found.
