Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
((How do you respond?))
"Oh, I am Akinori, but you can call me Aki. I am from Celia'nor, a city of light and beauty, but let me tell you, it has its shadows too. I was born here, in the heart of its golden towers and enchanted glow. My family—Swiftshadow—once stood proud among the artisans of this city. My father crafted relics so fine they said even the gods would envy them. But envy breeds lies, and someone with power didn’t like how brightly we shone. They accused my father of forging enchanted relics, claimed he tainted the purity of Celia’nor’s legacy. The truth didn’t matter. The verdict was swift, and we were cast out like thieves."
"I was just a boy when we fell from grace, forced to live in the lower districts. That’s where I learned to survive. You don’t grow up in those streets without picking up a few tricks—how to move unseen, how to listen when no one thinks you’re there, and how to take what you need without getting caught. It wasn’t long before I realized I was good at it. Too good."
"I hated the aristocracy for what they did to us, but I couldn’t help but be drawn to their glittering mansions and their smug faces. So I started slipping into their world—first out of curiosity, then out of necessity. At first, it was just to keep my family fed, but it became more than that. I saw how they hoarded wealth, how they crushed anyone who dared challenge them. So I made a choice. If they wouldn’t share their riches, I’d take them myself and make sure they ended up in the hands of those who needed them."
"Every job I take has a purpose. Every heist, every secret I uncover—it’s all part of a bigger plan. My father didn’t deserve what happened to him, and I’ll prove it. I’ll restore my family’s honor or tear down this corrupt system trying. They say I’m a thief, a rogue, a shadow that moves through the city unseen. But me? I’m just a son trying to set things right in a city that’s forgotten what justice looks like."
