The culture of Clan Kameki is rooted in survival after slaughter. Death and violence have shaped the Kameki since the Aegean Age. As maehr clans go, the Kameki are a largely peaceful group. They do not seek to enact brutality against others. Yet the lingering memory of mass death and ethnic cleansing lies at the heart of their traditions.

In the Aegean era, the Kameki were an expansive clan. They moved across the landscape in great caravans and refused to settle in one place for long. Rather than build permanent structures, they lived in tents and covered wagons. Waste disgusted them, so they focused on being resourceful, frugal, and inventive with what they owned. Money came into the caravan primarily through the sale of handicrafts, mostly textile based. Clan Kameki valued history and reverence for the ancestors, expressed through the stories they told, the crafts they made, and the performances they staged. Their culture was patchwork, blending mali tradition with valah custom. They had a tendency to adopt bits and pieces of the places they visited. This showed up prominently in their naming conventions. Members of Clan Kameki might use a traditional elven name like Vel'aryla or a human-style name like Gerald. 

On the whole, the Kameki were hospitable, egalitarian, eager to share, and quick to make friends.

Yet not all people appreciated Clan Kameki's hospitality.

In 1273 of the First Age, Clan Kameki established a camp outside the merchant city of Alras. They brought noise, life, and movement to the city. Songs and poetry spilled from the Kameki camp day and night for weeks. Many Alrasians traded with the caravan. Some drank with the Kameki. Some danced with them or listened to their stories. Others condemned them as wild and dirty vagrants who brought shame to the city. 

Typically, the Kameki would move after two or three months. Gold flowed liberally from the merchant city, however, and so the Kameki stayed to earn a profit. The longer the Kameki stayed, the worse their reputation became. The Kameki were not rude guests, but their customs were strange and unsettling. For example, they practiced rituals involving large vats of dye that the Alrasians feared would poison the water supply. In addition, the Kameki often reused or repurposed things that others left behind — which led some to accuse them of thievery. As part of their rituals, the Kameki habitually wore masks that obscured their faces. To the Kameki, anonymity was truth. A person could only be their most authentic self while wearing a mask. To outsiders, though, these sinister masks signaled only duplicity, mystery, and dishonesty.

Complaints grew and yet the King of Alras, Aislinn Hightower, did nothing. Angered by their ruler's negligence, a group of citizens decided to take matters into their own hands.

No one quite knows how the Kameki Massacre started. Perhaps it was an argument that got out of hand. A punch was thrown, a nose was broken. No matter how it started, no one could forget how it ended. One minute, night lay peacefully over the Kameki encampment. The next minute, flames engulfed the tents and wagons. The Kameki awoke to smoke and horror, seizing what they could before they fled. Yet escape did not guarantee safety. If they did not perish in the fire, they perished on the swords and pitchforks of angry Alrasians. 

By morning, the Kameki camp was a smoldering ruin littered with the broken bodies of the slain.

Only a few Kameki escaped the massacre — Gerald Kameki, his wife Anastasia, their daughter Rina, and their sons Heraldo and Gor'il. The five survivors did not know if any other Kameki avoided slaughter. It was possible that they were the only ones who made it out alive. Together, they faced a task that was as daunting as it was heartbreaking. 

To preserve the clan's culture in the face of total extinction.

Much of Kameki culture solidified and intensified in response to their trauma. They were nomadic prior to the slaughter, but now they knew the price of staying too long in one place — death. They no longer traveled for the joy of exploring new places and meeting new people. Rather, they traveled in hopes of avoiding yet another massacre. To the Kameki, family ties took priority over everything. Their filial loyalty grew in the wake of the tragedy, but their mistrust of outsiders did also. The Kameki became more secretive, more guarded. Due to their nomadic lifestyle, they rarely — if ever — had the chance to form friendships outside of the clan. Their slaughter at the hands of the Alrasians taught them self-sufficiency. If they relied only on themselves and their family, then they would never be vulnerable again. These principles became the heart of the Kameki clan in the wake of the Alrasian butchery. 

While they never became a prominent clan, the Kameki persisted quietly and tirelessly. Their resourcefulness, self-sufficiency, and endurance made them difficult to erase, even in the face of staggering hardship. Yet they still maintained some of the softness that characterized their early years. Even in their hardened states, the Kameki still prize storytelling, nature, family, and love. 

The Kameki are a clan of seasoned survivors with softened hearts — and they have remained so across the centuries.

The Kameki are highly diverse in appearance, but they are united by one common aspect —  the color heliotrope purple. 

All Kameki are required to wear the signature color somewhere on their person. 

In ages past, the Kameki were required to dye their hair in the requisite shade, but this is no longer the case. Traditionalist Kameki may still opt to dye their hair. However, modern members of Clan Kameki may choose simply to wear a piece of clothing or jewelry in the appropriate hue. Some may get more permanent body modifications such as tattoos in the clan's color. 

Regardless of how they choose to display it, heliotrope purple is how the Kameki identify one another at a glance. It is both a badge of honor and an indicator of family ties. As such, it is a mark of prestige for outsiders to be gifted items in the clan's signature color. Wearing the clan's colors designates one as an honorary member of the clan. 

According to stories passed down by the clan's ancestors, the color also serves to honor the first Kameki. Clan Kameki's origins are shrouded in mystery, but it was believed they came about from a forbidden union between Clan Klaren and Clan Nightheart. This union produced the original purebred Kameki lineage. Purebred Kameki were said to have faintly purple-tinted or pink-tinted hair rather than pure white or pure black. Heliotrope purple was thus adopted in honor of the original Kameki ancestors.

"Family"

A Kameki must always prioritize their family. Loyalty and devotion to one's family supersede all other virtues. Parents have a duty to provide for their children, protect them, ensure their good education, and love them unconditionally. Children have a reciprocal duty to honor their parents, show them love and respect, and uphold the good name of Clan Kameki. Siblings must protect one another, support one another, and encourage one another to be good. These duties extend to adoptive and honorary family. Clan Kameki's definition of family is neither rigid nor brittle. As long as you consider someone family, it is your charge to love and honor them as tradition dictates.

"Enduring Hardship"

Hardship is a friend to the Kameki. They are used to living harsh, austere lives. When you are a nomad constantly traveling from place to place, you must grow accustomed to less-than-luxurious accommodations. The Kameki do not balk at sleeping on the ground or under the stars. They can endure heat, cold, hunger, pain, and illness without complaint. They are known to be stoic and resilient in the face of difficulty and tragedy.

"Self-Sufficiency & Resourcefulness"

A member of Clan Kameki must be able to competently look after themselves and see to their own needs. Skills such as cooking, sewing, mending, gardening, hunting, fishing, carpentry, and first aid are mandatory learning. Seeking help — especially from one's family — is not discouraged. However, one needs to be able to survive alone so as to protect oneself and not burden others. 

Resourcefulness ties into self-sufficiency. If you are a member of Clan Kameki, you need to be able to find value in things that other people discard. Wastefulness is considered a moral failing among the Kameki. Why throw away what you can repair? If it can't be repaired, then it should be repurposed. Old things can be made new again with creativity and ingenuity. The Kameki are likewise careful with money. Most would rather scavenge or recycle items than purchase new ones. You might see Kameki using the same clothes, armor, and weapons for years, decades, or even centuries at a time — lovingly repaired over and over again.

MAUNUM

"Generosity"

The Kameki are thrifty, resourceful, and careful with their money — but that doesn't mean they're cheap, miserly, or stingy. On the contrary, the Kameki are frequently generous and willing to share. Hardship and suffering have taught them compassion. They are generous with far more than just money. They are happy to donate their time, attention, knowledge, and skills to others. Sharing comes naturally to a member of Clan Kameki. They give freely without expectations of reciprocity, simply because — to them — it's the right thing to do.

NAEUMAUM

"Exploration"

Travel was once compulsory for Clan Kameki, but the restriction has eased over time. Modern members of the clan no longer flinch at the idea of maintaining permanent homes. Yet, even if an individual retains a permanent residence, he or she should still cultivate a love of travel and exploration. The Kameki are expected to be well-traveled and exposed to a variety of cultural influences.

"Storytelling"

Storytelling and playacting are beloved traditions among the Kameki. Performance is how they relate to their history and keep tradition alive. When you are living a hardscrabble existence on the open road, sometimes stories around the fire are the only comfort you have. The Kameki love of storytelling ties into their use of ritual masks. It's not uncommon to see Kameki historians, actors, playwrights, and novelists due to their longstanding appreciation of a good yarn.

"Knowledge"

At first glance, the Kameki may not seem like an intellectual tribe. However, the accumulation of knowledge — especially practical skills — still ranks high on their list of priorities. Knowledge and intelligence stay with you, even when you lose everything else. Outsiders can take your home and your possessions, but they can never take your mind. So the Kameki consider it critical to keep one's mind sharp and always, always stay learning. Knowledge is both power and safety.

"Open-mindedness" 

The Kameki are world-travelers. It's difficult to be close-minded when you have met a wide variety of people and experienced numerous different cultures. The Kameki have their own distinct way of life, but that doesn't mean they look down on people who live differently. They are neither haughty nor superior, nor are they stuck in their ways. The Kameki survive by being fluid, adaptable, and open to new ideas once they're presented. As such, you will find a wide variety of beliefs and practices among the Kameki. Some revere Helun-Velulaeya, the Moon Mother. Others may have adopted Canonism or other valah faiths. Some observe druidic aspect worship or practice shamanic ancestral worship. Yet they're all still Kameki.

"Humility & Respect"

The Kameki tend to live hard, simple lives. As such, most clan members have fostered a deep sense of humility and simplicity. Kameki is not a prestigious or well-known lineage, so they tend not to put on airs or assume importance where none exists. Their energy is devoted to quiet endurance and survival, not to power-grabbing or clout-chasing. They tend to respect leaders who follow through with their word and prize action over fancy talk. Their respect, though hard-won, never fades once it's bestowed.

"Love of the Natural World"

As world-travelers, the Kameki have been privileged to see much of the landscape and its wonders. While traveling, they may frequently stop to enjoy vast, beautiful vistas — or to appreciate smaller, simpler things, such as the loveliness of a single flower or the dapple of sunlight through the trees. Traditional Kameki spiritual beliefs sample from druidism. An old Kameki legend suggests that, when a member of the clan dies, their soul is divided into five parts. One part goes to the flowers and the trees. A second part is reincarnated as a child of a different race. The third part returns to Helun-Velulaeya, the Moon Mother. The fourth part is reborn into an animal. The fifth and final part - the part unique only to you - becomes a star shining in the sky. While not all Kameki believe this to be true, it reflects their longstanding reverence for the land, the animals, the moon, and the stars.

"Hiding the Face" - The Use of Ritual Masks

Masks hold a place of high importance in Clan Kameki's culture. Ritual masks are incorporated into nearly every Kameki ceremony and ritual. This is because the Kameki have a deep-seated cultural belief that true authenticity is tied to anonymity.

Rather than becoming a barrier to emotional intimacy and vulnerability, masks are instead used to encourage it. A person can only be their true, authentic self when concealed behind a mask. The mask is one's "chosen face", or how they choose to depict themselves. As such, it is a more real, more honest, and more accurate representation of one's unvarnished self than their flesh-and-blood face. 

Every member of Clan Kameki possesses a handmade ritual mask which they wear during clan gatherings, rituals, and other significant events. These masks are highly customized and individual. They're meant to be personal, exterior representations of one's soul, and so there's no standard against which the masks are measured. They may be full face, half face, or anything in between. Some are beautiful, some are frightening, some are highly decorated, others are quite simple. 

The mask may be updated and changed throughout one's life — especially as a member of the clan transitions from childhood to adulthood. Clan members will usually make a new mask upon reaching a life milestone, such as getting married, having children, or any event that causes a major shift in their lifestyle. Specific rituals, such as the marriage ceremony and funerary rites, call for specific masks that are only used once.

One strict rule is that your old ritual masks should never be discarded. Old masks must be kept as a sign of one's growth. An old mask may be repurposed or reused to make a new mask, but it cannot be destroyed or thrown away. To destroy an old ritual mask is seen as abandoning or destroying the version of "you" that made the mask in the first place. 

The Kameki do not wear their masks constantly. Because the mask is an external representation of the soul, it is considered quite intimate and personal. As a member of Clan Kameki, your mask is your "private" face that you show to the clan. It is considered a sign of high trust and deep personal connection for a member of Clan Kameki to show their mask to an outsider.

Joining Clan Kameki

There are three methods of joining Clan Kameki — 

The first is to be born into the clan. The second is to join via marriage. The third is to be an outsider accepted into the clan. Outsiders who join the clan undertake a ritual to symbolize becoming part of the clan. 

The "clan joining" ritual has three steps. 

The first step is the creation and preparation of the ritual mask. New members are tasked with creating a mask that represents their true, internal self. It's meant to be an outward manifestation of how they see themselves. Creating a Kameki mask is not a petty or superficial task. One must think deeply about how they want their mask to look and what meaning it is meant to convey. Masks can be made from any material. There are no standards and they can be any shape, size, color, or texture, so long as they cover at least part of the face. Masks can range from half-masks that cover only the eyes or mouth to full-coverage headgear that conceals the entire head. As long as the sentiment behind the mask's creation is sincere, it's considered acceptable.

The second step is to handcraft a clothing item or accessory for dyeing. Any material — wool, silk, cotton, fur, leather — may be used for this purpose, but wool or leather are preferred for their durability. This clothing item, whatever it may be, will be the new member's "badge" identifying them as belonging to Clan Kameki. Members of Clan Kameki must wear a clothing item or accessory in the clan's signature color at all times. They can have multiple clothing items in the clan's colors, but the creation of the first one is symbolically important. It must always be made from scratch, never purchased, to show the clan's commitment to resourcefulness and self-reliance.

What follows is the preparation of heliotrope purple dye. That special, specific shade is made using a variety of natural ingredients. New members must collect the dye's ingredients, then prepare the dye bath. The recipe to create the specific Kameki purple is a closely guarded secret known only to the members of the clan.

The third step is for the new member to present their dyed garment and their mask to the clan. They may explain the significance of the elements in the mask's design. Clad in Kameki purple and wearing their mask, the new member will then be asked to perform a story of their choosing for the clan. It may be a story from life, a retelling of some historical event, or a fictional narrative — so long as it holds some personal significance to the new member.
 

LAAZH-KALEUNA

Heliotrope Flowers & Their Significance

Heliotrope flowers (called "laazh-kaleuna" or "purple stars" in Vel'luah) hold deep significance to the maehr of Clan Kameki. This is because the heliotrope features heavily in the legend of their origins.

Kameki legend states that their line originated from a forbidden union between Clan Klaren and Clan Nightheart. In old Malinor, the two clans were at odds. Clan Nightheart were a priestly caste guiding the maehr in worship of Helun-Velulaeya, valuing purity, focus, and dogmatic adherence to faith. The Klaren were warriors who often deviated from tradition in pursuit of strategic advantage. Their diverging culture, practices, and attitudes naturally put the two clans at odds. 

One night, beneath the full moon, a Klaren warrior was exploring a mountainside deemed sacred by the priests of Nightheart. No one was allowed to venture onto the mountain, save for the oracles of Nightheart who had pledged themselves in service of Helun-Velulaeya. The warrior discovered a young Nightheart priestess in a moonlit field of heliotrope flowers. He fell in love with her at first sight. The warrior and the priestess carried on a secret affair, meeting once a month under the full moon amongst the heliotropes. To conceal their identities, they were said to have worn masks when going to meet one another. 

Marriage was forbidden between Klaren and Nightheart at the time. In order for the lovers to be together, they would be forced to forsake their clans of origin. They chose love rather than loyalty to their kinsmen. Together, the warrior and the priestess left Malinor behind. They took to the road and adopted a nomadic lifestyle so that they could escape the oppression of their clans and love one another in peace. When their union at last produced children, the children were said to have pale pink or purple hair like the petals of the heliotrope. 

The Kameki honor the heliotrope flower to this day in their rituals and symbology.

AEHGULE YLARYA

"Making Peace" - Kameki Conflict Resolution Ritual

Conflicts will naturally arise in any family. The Kameki have a special ritual for resolving disputes. 

When two Kameki are at odds, they must don their ritual masks and sit opposite one another. A third member of Clan Kameki will bind their hands using a cloth dyed in the clan's signature heliotrope purple. The donning of the masks and the binding of the hands represents an authentic and trusting connection between clan members. 

The two conflicting Kameki will then air their grievances truthfully, honestly, without manipulation or exaggeration. Only once the conflict has reached a resolution will their hands be unbound. 

DUHBEL'UHN ABGELEL

"The Time of the Road" - The Kameki Coming-of-Age Ceremony

Clan Kameki was once a nomadic clan of world-travelers. Over time, they became less nomadic and settled into permanent dwellings. However, young Kameki are always encouraged to go traveling once they come of age. This is called Duhbel'uhn Abgelel ("The Time of the Road", or "The Road's Time"). 

During Duhbel'uhn Abgelel, a young Kameki spends a year living abroad and exposing themselves to different cultures and lifestyles. They are not allowed to return home until the year is concluded, nor are they allowed to seek financial help from their families. The Duhbel'uhn Abgelel is meant to broaden a young maehr's horizons as well as teach them resourcefulness, humility, and self-sufficiency. Poverty is enforced as a way to honor the sacrifices of the ancestors. 

Those on their Duhbel'uhn Abgelel are encouraged to keep diaries about their experience and send letters back to their loved ones.

"Honoring the Cloth" - Textile Arts & Woolcraft

Sheep have always held a place of significance in Kameki culture. The early Kameki in Aegis practiced nomadic pastoralism, guiding herds of livestock from meadow to meadow. Their travels were dictated by the turning of the seasons. 

When the Kameki nomads traded, they offered textile arts and crafts with wool harvested from their sheep and dyed with herbs, berries, or flowers. These crafts included clothing, rugs, plush toys, blankets, and tapestries. 

The Kameki have an intimate knowledge of dyeing and textile arts, which makes their products high quality, beautiful, and desirable. While the modern Kameki are no longer nomadic, many still practice textile arts — such as spinning, weaving, knitting, and crochet — as a way to honor their ancestors. Clan members should, at least, be able to repair and maintain their own clothes. Clothing, especially handmade clothing, is to be treated with care and respect. Abusing and mistreating one's clothing is seen as wasteful and disrespectful not only to the tailor, but to the animal that provided the spinning material.

"Honoring Hardship" - The Kameki Practice of Giving to Charity

Because the Kameki have struggled, they recognize when others are struggling. They are always willing to share what they have with others, even if it only leaves a little for themselves. Generosity among the Kameki is habitual and automatic. A Kameki will not give to the point of foolishness or ruin, but they will give what they can spare.

Giving to those in need is called Luhule Revaro (translated "honoring hardship") because charity is not seen as neither pity nor condescension. Rather, it is a way to pay homage to others' sacrifices and struggles. 

It is a way of saying — "I recognize your pain, for I have felt it myself."

"Walking the Road of Choice" - The Kameki Marriage Ceremony

When a member of Clan Kameki marries, they may choose to partake in the traditional Kameki marriage ceremony. 

When a member of Clan Kameki wishes to propose to their beloved, they may present him or her with a bouquet of heliotrope flowers.

For the occasion, the bride and groom must craft special marriage masks and garments. The wedding masks and wedding clothes will only be worn once, during the ceremony. Special care and consideration should be put into the wedding clothes and masks. It is a shared activity between the betrothed couple. The couple makes masks for each other rather than for themselves, with the masks representing how they view one another. Often, the wedding clothes and masks of the affianced couple match each other aesthetically in some way. 

If one half of the couple is from outside the clan, the marriage ritual may be folded in with the clan joining ritual. 

The marriage ceremony is led by a clan elder. The betrothed pair will wear their wedding masks and wedding clothes, complete with flower wreaths of heliotrope. The clan elder will bind the couples' hands together with a sacred cloth and recount the legend of Clan Kameki's origins — the forbidden union between Klaren and Nightheart. Then, the elder will ask the lovers to tell the story of their meeting and their romance. Other members of the clan, if in attendance, will be asked to share their fond memories of the couple. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the couple will exchange vows and pledge to love one another for as long as the marriage may last.

Following the marriage ceremony, the couple embarks on a journey together. The destination will be kept secret from the clan, known only to the couple. That destination will become their special place, which they may return on future anniversaries to reaffirm their commitment. 

LOKAEULE DUHBEL-VYLOMEL

"Walking the Final Road" - The Kameki Funerary Rites

When a member of Clan Kameki dies, their body must be prepared in the traditional method. A death mask is crafted for the deceased by their loved ones — usually the deceased's spouse, but just as often their children. In rare cases, such as terminal illness, the deceased may make their own mask ahead of time. The death mask is intended to represent the culmination of their life and what the deceased meant to those they left behind. 

A funerary shroud is prepared and dyed using the traditional Kameki methods. The shroud may sometimes be crafted like a quilt, with each family member crafting one or more squares. The funerary shroud is created slowly and carefully, with feelings and memories woven into each strand. 

Upon completion of the mask and shroud, the funeral can begin. The body of the deceased is wrapped in the shroud, with the mask placed on their face. After that, the body is placed on the funeral pyre and set aflame. Heliotrope flowers are not used in this ceremony, as heliotrope flowers represent life, love, and joy to the Kameki. 

After the body is burned, family and friends of the deceased are given a small portion of the ash. Their task is to take the ashes to a place where they shared a memory with the deceased. There, they will scatter the ashes as a final gesture honoring the dead.

THE VURSUR FAMILY — Tanith Vursur was born in 1273 of the First Age, the same year as the Kameki massacre in Alras. Tanith grew up in slavery, with no knowledge of her origins. As a young child, she was sold to a human noble family and trained to be a domestic servant. She was freed in the early Asulonian era and quite infamously went on to serve the Order of the White Rose as their housekeeper. In 1781 of the First Age, she married her beau Icroth Vursur, taking his name. Later, the couple adopted their mali'ame son James Vursur. 

Tanith continued to search for answers about her origins. She had naturally pale pink hair, making her somewhat of an anomaly among the dark elves. Tanith believed that her unusual hair color may be the key to uncovering her past. In the year 265 of the Second Age, she met Arzota Shadeleaf by chance. Arzota was once a Kameki, having married into the clan during his youth. He was the husband of Rina Kameki, one of the original survivors of the Kameki Massacre. Arzota identified Tanith's naturally pink hair as a sign of Kameki lineage. It was highly likely that Tanith was a Kameki infant who survived the massacre, was found by scavengers and then sold into slavery. 

Although there was no way to confirm this theory, Arzota officially adopted her into the clan. The Vursur Family was summarily named as an offshoot of Clan Kameki.

Gerald Kameki — One of the clan elders during the time of the Kameki Massacre. He managed to save his immediate family from execution by the Alrasians. Revered for his bravery in the face of slaughter and his heroism for protecting his family, and by extension the clan itself, during a critical moment.

Anastasia Kameki — The wife of Gerald Kameki and a clan elder in her own right. Anastasia preserved the tradition of pastoral nomadism. She was remarkable for her skill in animal care and husbandry. 

Rina Kameki — The daughter of Gerald and Anastasia Kameki. Rina became the clan leader following her father's death. She led the clan during the Aegisian and Asulonian eras. Rina codified and protected many of the Kameki traditions in the face of possible clan extinction. She oversaw significant clan growth on the continent of Kalos alongside her husband, Arzota Kameki (now Shadeleaf). 

Vierna Kameki — Second wife of Arzota Shadeleaf. Inducted into Clan Kameki by Arzota. An Arcane Delver and mage of significant talent. She was an accomplished alchemist who aided Kardel Irongut with his initial research into homunculi in Vaerhaven. Vierna participated heavily in the war against the September Prince, aiding Arzota in his efforts to strike a final blow against the Prince. 

Heraldo and Gor'il Kameki — Brothers of Rina. Crucial supporters during the clan's desperate period following the Kameki Massacre.

Ino Kameki — One of the guardsmen on duty during the Kameki Massacre. He sacrificed his life to protect the camp. 

Jeremiah Kameki — Another one of the guardsmen on duty during the Kameki Massacre. He managed to warn Gerald of the incoming threat, allowing Gerald enough time to gather his family and escape alive.

FURY OF THE ANCESTORS 

 It is woven in the silk tapestries of the clan that the first Oussana was created by Malin himself, born of light taken from the night sky and his own blood poured into the roots of an oak tree. The myth of their origins predates known history. Their recorded origins from the times of Malin make Oussana the only known elder clan of Maehr. 

The Oussana hold themselves as his greatest warriors against the Betrayer, born to serve as Malin’s wardens and vindicators. Though the very first progenitors are unknown, the clan traces its ancestry to Khel Oussana, The Purifier, a warden of Malin turned to legendary warrior, prince and liberator, After his death, the Oussana of his bloodline fell into a state of depravity and weakness which inspired him to manifest upon the mortal realm to cleanse them himself. Only those of Rathina’s favored line, or those not of his bloodline, survived.

The Oussana remained a prominent clan after the collapse of Malinor and splintering of the maehr, though they remained largely secluded to themselves, guarding their primal and esoteric secrets. According to accounts of the ancestors, many Oussana lived amongst the deep caverns and expansive forests of the north, a time in which many of their values and cultural traits manifested themselves. It is through their fervent adherence to their culture that they have avoided the wrath of their Ancestor, and continue to survive from the Golden age of Malin, all the way till now.

⬽-⥉-⤘ THE PATH OF Z’RESS ⬽-⥉-⤘

Established by Khel to define the philosophy of Oussana, the Path of Z’ress describes the belief in the inherent superiority of the elder clan over others through their progression of strength and rejection of weakness. Weakness is the domain of lesser elves and races, not the Maehr. What exactly strength and weakness are is an expansive topic. Over time, the Path of Z’ress has not just become a philosophical stance, but a religious doctrine to honour their ancestor Khel and spare themselves from his judgement.

Strength is defined as a combination of skills and capabilities of the user. It is a combination of physical strength, magical ability, verbal eloquence, mental cunning, and honed skill all to utmost perfection. Strength itself in the context of the path is more of a synonym of perfection in itself.

Weakness, on the other hand, is defined as sloth, lack of character, faithlessness, frailty, reliance on disdained magics and deities, or any general imperfection. Straying from the path of Z’ress invites obliteration from Khel, as was done in the past. To avoid this, Oussana who are determined ‘weak’ are exiled, historically to mali’ame settlements.

“I walk the path of power, not to dominate others, but to exalt myself and to secure my liberty in this world of wroth. Such that any who crosses my path will recognise their inferiority, and the thought of my subjugation will not even form in their heads.”

⬽-⥉⥉⤘ THE ELDER RITES ⬽⥉⥉-⤘

As the centuries have passed, the strive for perfection among Oussana has caused various cultural skills and traits to develop, each respected within the clan to an almost zealous degree. Oussana have been known to even put their lives at risk to adhere to these cultural norms, a trait which often attracts confusion among the younger clans.

- WEAVING -

Oussana fervently claims to have been the ones to first weave spider silk. Regardless of the truth of this, weaving of all kinds is perhaps the most prevalent artisanal craft among Oussana. Uniquely, Oussana record their history and stories in things which they weave, storing information in long banners, nets, knots, and clothes rather than in books or scrolls as others might. 

- PRIMEVAL SCRIPT -

The ancient tongue of the dark elves, known as Vel’luah, is considered sacred to the elder clan, and is used in everyday life from common speech to religious ceremony. And while the alphabet of the language has been standardised amongst all Maehr, Oussana retains their primitive runes conserved from the days of the Four Brothers.

While the entire primeval script has been lost, the remaining runes have come to convey meaning instead of letters. The meaning of these runes, nor the rituals they are used in, are not shared with outsiders of the clan. When combined in certain shapes, these form folk spells: In a + shape to attract something, o to repel, a triangle to make a spell, etc.

- DISPLAY -

The expression of superiority is important to the Oussana. This is done through flaunting strength, beauty, and tattoos. Long hair is also a display of strength, for it indicates the need to have never cut it for battle. Thus both men and women of the clan grow their hair out as long as possible.

An Oussana’s outfit is usually contrasted with both opulent spider silks and trophies gathered from hunts. An Oussana may wear silk robes and cover themselves in monster fur, and then wear necklaces of bone with rings of gemstones. This sense of fashion is how Oussana express their might and wealth; savagery and nobility.

- MARTIAL TRADITION-

As a clan that has survived since the first days of history, the best descriptor of the Oussanic combat philosophy is pragmatism. Though there is a balance maintained between ritualistic observation of etiquette and custom and a ruthless path to victory.

In polite company or in one where violence is not typically expected, Oussana carry around swords as a symbol of their strength. One’s technical ability with a sword is highly regarded, with both rituals and duels amongst members.

During hunting however, a different set of etiquette and rules applies. An Oussana will typically use a spear, bows and javelins to honour the ancestors.

For practical combat, Oussana do not shy away from polearms, especially ones usable on the back of a mount, the clan being famed direwolf riders; swinging long polehammers and poleaxes to mow down their enemies. It is disrespectful to not fight to the fullest extent of one’s capabilities. “Honour” and “Decorum” are words only used when presenting in front of peers.

And in battle they are peerless. The maehr of the elder clan fight with ferocity and disdain, mixing chants of grayspeech, boasts, and mockery into their combat. Oussana revel in what others may consider dirty tactics, exploiting their opponents weakness by any means possible. For in battle, the only way to honour the ancestors is to bring victory.

“I hope you can count all the honours you have accrued when your body is cold, ripped asunder by Silidans and spiderlings. The grace you afforded your enemies will never be afforded to us. And from the Ylarya’Noraet , if you are accepted, you will view the consequences of allowing your enemies to persist.”

 - TATTOOS -

Since the first city of the dark elves, Oussana have used a tattooing method which best tests the resolve of those receiving it, using a tool akin to a small toothed hammer and hammer to essentially pierce into the skin to paint it over in ink. This can result in many ornate tattoo designs which bear an interweaving knotlike appearance. Inks used are almost exclusively black, silvery, white, brown, purple, blue, or red.

Oussana Mark: The first tattoo and Oussana should get, the Oussana mark is a series of interweaving lines behind a moon of the phase of their birth. This tattoo is given upon completion of a new clan member’s trials to designate their membership. 

Oaken Mark: A tattoo of a large oak tree with a symbol of blood within. The mark is used to signify marriage, in which the couple decides where to place each other’s tattoo. Those who bear the oaken mark are considered to be Oussana, required to take the name and perform trials if possible.

Blade Mark: A tattoo in the likeness of a magaraxul is used to designate some sort of  political office achieved by the Oussana. Once this position is completed, an extra flourish is added to the mark

Witch Mark: A series of interweaving lines akin to a lotus falling from an elk’s head, the witch mark is used to designate an Oussana who has become a priestess of the clan. 

Eye Mark: A tattoo which honors Rathina, one of the daughters of Khel Oussana. The tattoo is used to designate mastery in some form of non-shamanic magic praised by the clan.

Silken Mark: A spider of silk like design, this tattoo symbolizes the absolute mastery of some skill or art. To receive, the Oussana must offer up a masterwork or performance to the chief.

Lurker Mark: A tattoo of the chitinous menace known as a lurker. This tattoo is received upon victory in at least five major confrontations.

- WOLF KEEPING -

To exemplify the mastery over nature held by the clan, each and every Oussana has been known to keep and train their own wolves of varying forms. Dire wolves are particularly prized among members of the clan as mounts, leading to Oussana mainly organising into heavy or light cavalry units in militaries.

Oussana are expected to keep a bone of each wolf they have raised around their neck or leg after its death, with the wolf’s name inscribed in greyspeech upon the surface. As such, Oussana of age and experience may have up to a dozen bones across their body. Amongst particularly zealous Khelites, wolves are seen as avatars of Khel, and thus a sacred creature.

“Amuyl’Duhux is more of a brother to me than you ever have. Do you think of yourself as an Oussana because our parents are? You have not earned the right to use that name, you have not  laboured, sweated not bled. Amuyl’Duhux has, and alongside me in every trial.”

⬽-⥉-⤘ THE BLOOD OF KHEL⬽-⥉-⤘

It is only expected that Oussana consider themselves the fairest among all kinds, dark elven or otherwise. The centuries have gathered a unique set of visual features which make those of the elder clan very distinct from other maehr clans.

Eyes: Oussana are known to frequently be of a single colour, with the shades between the pupil and iris being nearly indistinguishable. Those Oussana of Rathina’s line have been known to have their eyes fade silver with age. These eyes are also known to come with an unfortunate level of light sensitivity however.

Hair: The hair of an Oussana is their most prized feature. It is notably hardy, rarely if ever splitting even at great lengths, nor does it break off easily. Their hair similarly has absurdly long terminal lengths, almost always able to reach down from their legs to even their ankles. Oussana hair almost exclusively comes in snowy white, with the rare instance of raven black and even more uncommonly light or pastel blue hues may manifest.

Skin: Similarly unique to the clan, Oussanic dark elves bear skin of a very light gray, similar to the palest fog of mountaintops or temperate woods. In very rare cases this can extend to an utmost stark white brought by albinism, or bear a light bluish tint to it.

⬽-⥉-⤘ ANCESTRALISM ⬽-⥉-⤘

Often considered zealots by the weak, those of the elder clan bear an intense fervent worship of their ancestors. They possess specific practices and beliefs unique to their own view of ancestralism, relying on their traditions to perform worship and rites.

Witch Priests: Those among the Oussana who cultivate the culture of the clan and perform religious activities are known as ‘Haeuze’, which translates roughly to ‘long hair’ in Vel’luah. Haeuze traditionally abstain from cutting their hair short through their whole life, and this is followed by both male and female Haeuze. Priests will mark their bodies and hair with the ancient script.

The Haeuze may practice many magics, but the only form of magic a Haeuze must be able to perform is Akakh’Aher’ule, or Vision Giving. The traditions and history of the Oussana are passed down through silk tapestries and orally. The Haeuze must be able to give an Oussana a vision of the past, of the lives of the ancestors, which they themselves have seen from the Haeuze before them, who saw from the one before them, and so on. Thus the Haeuze play an important role as ancestral witnesses, and this is how they guide the spiritual practices of the clan.

Ylarya’Noraet: The Realm of Peace is what the Oussana call the place in which their deceased ancestors reside; but most commonly referred to simply as the Ancestral Realm. The name at first may seem contradictory to the overall nature of an Oussana: created for war, rebelled against their slavers, and practiced a culture based around supremacy.

This is a surface level understanding of the purpose of an Oussana, at their core they are dedicated to the greater good of their people and duties. They fight to protect their clan and fellow maehr and enforce the path of Z’ress so that future generations will not suffer subjugation as they once did in the past. To finally enter the Realm of Peace, is to be relieved of mortal duty and to begin their duties as ancestral spirit guides.

The actual details of the Ylarya’Noraet are not known, or at least not divulged by the Witch Priests, to avoid inspiring a longing for death, which was once an issue during the times of slavery. All that is commented on is that it is the ideal home for the ancestors, and in recent centuries it has been attributed to be governed by the Moon Goddess, Helun-Velulaeya. Though this has not always been the case.

Moment of Judgement: Not all Oussana who die may enter the Ylarya’Norae, they must face the Moment of Judgement by their collective ancestors to determine how well they have followed the Path of Z’ress in their lives. If they pass, they may join the ranks of their ancestors. If they fail, the unworthy one’s soul is scattered.

Further yet, an Oussana does not get to live centuries of decadence and only face consequence on the moment of their death. The ancestors view their actions continuously throughout life, and if one is particularly sinful, they may be purged even in the living realm.

This may come through ominous deaths such as being mauled by wolves, and other unseemly demise. But in a time where the entire clan was suffering from sloth and decadence, Khel Oussana descended from the ancestral realm to purge his own wayward clan members. The clan was cleansed and has continued on since those days, not straying from the path of Z’ress.

Rathina’uhn’Zkora: Rathina’s Truth describes the general skepticism Oussana have towards “deities” and other such powerful entities. It is typically seen that those that demand worship in some form or another, or those grant power in exchange for service are not truly worthy of such veneration. The ancestors are venerated not due to their power, but because of their altruistic guidance of their people. Even if an ancestor was a flawed figure in real life, one can still learn from their example and actions. A deity however, even if representing a positive theme, is eternally flawed.

Worship of such deities is seen as at best as naive, however coexistence of other Maehr has lead tolerance of such practices, and syncretism across various interpretations of the Moon-Mother.

“Do you see now? The moss we once walked on, the beetles we once dined on, and the chime of crystals. Remember what we had, what was taken and what we are owed.”

 - KHEL THE PURIFIER -

Khel Oussana was taken as a slave by the Mori in Meno’cress and as he grew up he organised a resistance amongst fellow dark elf slaves that overthrew the Mori and he went on to nearly eradicate them. His wrath and zealotry were famed throughout all the realms. He was the first true leader of the dark elves, he was made a prince of Malinor and founded the city of Darkhaven from which ancestralism became the dominant Maehr form of worship.

As the only ancestral spirit to have manifested on the mortal plane, he commands both great respect and fear amongst ker and his descendants, fear from straying from the ideals and philosophies he set forth to guide them against falling prey to greater forces as he was in his childhood.

Khel and other ancestors of Oussana are honored through the ‘Gray Parade’, a celebratory rite in which the Oussana don masks and reenact the war against the deep elves in whatever settlement they reside. This often involves random acts of vandalism and mock spars in the streets.

 - RATHINA THE ARCHMAGE -

Rathina was the Archmage of Darkhaven and a master of psionic magic. Her practice of the arcane was a further liberating force for the Oussana by rapidly developing their magical knowledge, which was restricted to them during their subjugation. The study of magic then also became a viable way to progress on the Path of Z’ress.

She was the favoured daughter of Khel for her dedication to the path, and the modern Oussana descend directly from her, with the descendants from other lineages having been purged by Khel for their straying from the path.

 - HELUN’OUSA -

The name Oussana translates into silk-weaver in common, a constant reminder of their origin as silk harvesters and weavers. The name of the first Oussana to do this has long been lost, but it is known that person was a woman and she has been eternalised as the Helun’Ousa, or Silk-Mother.

The legend of the Silk-Mother is known to all Oussana, and predates that of Khel, as she was the first descendant to harvest spider silk and weave it into beautiful creations. However, the spider-demon Nemissae then stole this art from her, and Nemissae’s children the Mori enslaved the Oussana in their silk farms. In some myths, Malin’s son Zanunder, whose form Nemissae stole to create the Mori, was Helun’Ousa’s husband, making her tale more tragic.

Helun’Ousa secretly wove the history and secrets of her family into her tapestries, passing the knowledge down through generations. To this day, Oussana chronicle their history through silk. She is attributed as the first Haeuze of the clan.

“I remember as a youngling I was walking through our hall of tapestries and I saw one up on the wall. It was torn in many parts, with corners charred and it had the lingering smell of iron on it. You could not tell what history was woven on it. It is only now that I realise what it means.”

⬽-⥉-⤘ THE TRIALS ⬽-⥉-⤘

The Oussana do not take their name lightly, requiring strict adherence to the culture and notable accomplishments. Those not of the blood can undergo these trials should their deeds prove themselves to be among the greatest of Maehr, though acceptance of new members is exceedingly rare.

The Trial of Dedication: The aspirant must choose an ancestral spirit as their patron, this may be any of the Maehr ancestors, not just limited to Oussanic ones. Once an oath is made, an offering must be given to the ancestor. This trial serves as a barrier to separate the mali’ker from the Maehr, as the Aspirant is meant to study tradition and the ways of the ancestors to make a proper choice of patron.

The Trial of Bonding: The Aspirant is granted a direwolf pup to be raised and trained by the aspirant until the direwolf is old enough to ride. Then the individual must prove this new mastery with the elders or chief, by hunting down a specified creature with the aid of their bonded companion.

The Trial of Remembrance: The aspirant is sent alone into the underground to survive for a lunar day on their own means. They are also hampered in multiple ways, with curses or other ways to specifically test the weakness of the individual aspirant. The aspirant will not receive any help in case of danger, death is frequent.

The Trial of Blood: The final trial is variable, the exact specifics up to the aspirant in question, though the entire clan is to be involved in this celebratory affair. It could be a group hunt, a feast, or other clan wide event. After the completion, the Chief shall mark the clan mark upon their flesh in a location of the aspirant’s choosing, mixing their own blood into the ink. The event is then recorded in silk.

Haeuze Creation: An additional trial for those who seek to become a priestess, an Oussana clan member must provide a substantial sacrifice to one of the adhered spirits in the presence of the chieftess and then display their understanding and mastery of all aspects of the clan. Should they be successful, the Chief will use Akakh’Aher’uleto perform one last ‘trial of the soul’ upon them. Those who succeed learn to perform Akakh’Aher’ule themselves and become noted as a Haeuze.

This clan, founded by Velythzalyr, was created for medics, for teachers, and for caretakers. Roughly translating to “To Help All”, this clan does not focus on blood relation, but rather providing maehr a chance to grow and thrive. Maehr and malyker are to be accepted and cared for, provided they are willing to learn the ways of their people, and their passions.

No true path is pushed for by this clan. Only that the Mother-Moon approves of their choices. For this reason, voidal mages and darkspawn are to be rejected or removed from the clan for the sake of the family as a whole. However, regardless of their path, the Aralyth clansmen are to be the person they wish to see in the world. Be it a medic, a blacksmith, or a druid.

Furthermore, those of this clan are to be supported by its members and in turn, support their clan. No Aralyth is to be alone. This compassion is often encouraged to be extended to others, be them maehr or not. Self dignity and respect is crucial as well, for one cannot have faith in others, if they have no faith in themself.

There is no one style to be shown from this clan, nor mindset to be shared. The only requirement for joining is to vow to a clan leader to uphold personal truth and compassion. Once part of the clan, members can leave at their discretion or seek tasks to further their place in the clan.

Clan Roles

Lynaar Nardo (Serene Leader) - This role can only be held by one person at a time, and grants them the highest authority of the clan.

Hashathet’uzh (Gentle Tide) - This role is given to the innermost sanctum of the clan, those who have worked to better the clan and have done one great task to better the maehr community. They get a role in leadership and diplomacy efforts, acting as a council for the Aralyth clan.

Thyleryth (Friend To All) - This role is given to all who desire to bring about change and prosperity for the clan, as these members act as both teachers and scouts for the clan, helping people join as desired.

Iz-Miroz

The Blood-Braids of Ramâsar

Origin

In the distant northwest of Ramâsar hail the dark elven clan Szorâmor in a marshy wetland. They are an obelisk-worshipping people, farming stilt striders clutches and rice paddies, and mingle with disparate wood elven families in the bog’s twisting fringes. In the terraces along the land’s central volcanic range hail another dark elven clan, the ghrendal-riding Izenti, miners of gold, sulfur, obsidian, and redstone with militant affinities who fed much war in the south. Across four eras after their settling on Ramâsar these clans mingled on account of mutually beneficial beasts of burden; stilt striders can scale great inclines with ease and pull hefty loads while ghrendals make swift mounts for guards fiercer than most swamp monsters. The Szorâmor and Izenti clans converged over time, the craggy slopes and marshes between them yielding fertile territory to settle. This union of bloodlines produced a unique hereditary trait: ginger hair. By the Ramâsari Fourth Era towns like Kruhso and Ansârak were established by growing populations of these red-haired maehr.

By the late Fifth Era populations of these ginger dark elves swelled following the prosperity regained after the ending of central Ramasar’s Gilead-Rh’thor war. In this resurgence came a reaching for identity and community which fueled an appetite for heritage and tradition. Not all families among the Szorâmor and Izenti elite were accepting of this integration, fearing these elves’ modernization from trade and travel, alongside their distinctive hair identifying them. While some dark elves with red hair can be found among the progenitor clans today despite this tension, the vast majority of the otherwise rejected maehr formed into a successor clan whose customs are informed by both houses. Such are the Iz-Miroz.

Of the Ramasari dark elf clans, the Iz-Miroz are youngest and are thus belittled and dismissed by their elder kin, relegated to pastoral lives of farming, animal husbandry, and mineral processing in service roles beneath the Szorâmor and Izenti nobles who own their trades. As such Iz-Miroz maehr often travel to distant lands in search of greater opportunities and wealth leading to their arrival in Descendant circles, sometimes known there as Ramâsari blood-braids.

Appearance and Culture

The Iz-Miroz are foremost known by their red locks and secondarily for their light eyes, ranging in all common dark elven features otherwise. Multiple influences may contribute to Iz-Miroz families’ fashion, livelihoods, and dispositions, and expectations and so any given Iz-Miroz may be shaped by a mix of these sources.

Iz-Miroz with Szorâmor influences tend towards neutral attire of plant fibers, chitinous plates, and leathers with a stylistic emphasis on stitching and laces. They commonly fish for sport, have a keen mercantile sense, know practical medicine and the broad strokes of herbalism, are adept swimmers, play wind instruments sometimes made from giant insect sheds, and any dark elf of age knows how to ride and stable stilt striders. The Szorâmor keep a tradition of extensive outfitting of stilt striders, decorating them with giant chimes and bells paraded on holidays. These families often eat in groups, share their resources generously, honor their late pets akin to ancestors, and have obscure superstitions about celestial events, particularly red moons. 

Iz-Miroz with Izenti influences tend towards attire of reptile skins and leathers in dark shades adorned with claws, teeth, and feathers. Ash body and face paint, sometimes colored, is customary to signify their familial sub-sect while redstone tattoos are ritually applied to commemorate milestones, remember family lore, to confirm matters of faith, or even denote gang membership. Given their militant roots, they commonly enjoy games of dice and cards, rigorously teach discipline and chain-of-command, and are renowned for their raucous parties with contests of strength and choirs. The Izenti’s domestics hinge on mining precious and base metals as well as gems so families are rife with appraisers, jewelers, engravers, and all manner of smiths. These families stress honor and honesty so much they punish frauds and thieves with shunning, consider public displays of affection to be shameful, and dislike cold climates.

Iz-Miroz with Gilead-Rh’thor War influences tend towards flowy clothing styles often dominated by reds, heavily use root and branch iconography for their embroidery, and shave their heads in part or whole; the most faithful go bald but keep a long back ponytail. These dark elves favor tattoos of written words, recording on their skin family or clan history, religious scripture, or poetry. As the most traveled, they tend to have diverse and rich food palates and are inclusive and hospitable to strangers. These Iz-Miroz occasionally harbor Xionist or Fifth Lord sympathies but more often cling to a disdain or suspicion of deific influences without the ideologies’ dark associations. Lastly, such a family may keep Yultharan honor culture, be controversially apologetic towards Mori’Quessir and other spurionblood from Xionist perspectives, and are fond of sailing, water sports, and sea rites given the normalization of Dresdrasil and thalassos confused with Velulaei and her holy waters.

Naming Conventions

The above influences also shaped the young clan’s personal names, finding root words and loan sounds from them. This includes Ancient Elvish from the Ramâsari wood elves, guttural consonants from the land’s desert-dwelling orcs, and sounds from Mihyaari and Rh’thoraen cultural nomenclature, extending to rare inclusions of Al’tahrn-Durngo roots due to the latter. Iz-Mirozi names are ungendered. Examples include:

Revived by a distant descendant of Echo Nightheart, the Nightheart clan traces its roots to their revered ancestors Xexus and Ravyn, brothers who escaped an invading force of Orenian inquisitors intent on the destruction of their practices in Aegisian times.  Only through Helun-Velulaeya’s direct intervention were they able to survive, her good will enshrouding them in concealing shadow thanks to the single-minded worship of their temple’s acolytes, who remained deep in meditation even as they were slaughtered.  Through the teachings of these two scions, the seeds of the modern Velulaey cult were planted.

A focus on philosophy and prayerful living characterizes the clan's young but zealous matriarch, a vulera in training, who was also miraculously saved from certain death by the intervention of travelling Maehr.  Once known for a priestly caste identified by gold eyes and fair hair, all traces of the Nightheart visage have died out since the days of the clan's inception.  The sole surviving blood relative of the clan's original brood has inherited black hair, dull blue eyes and ashen skin.  Whoever she chooses as her spirit-kin will have traits of their own, none of them like hers, further burying the memory of blood unity.

☽︎ Velulaey, Eternally Divine

The Nightheart clan teach and believe that even prior to Velulaey’s incarnation as a daughter of Malin, she existed as the radiance of the Moon, the aengul of Night.  It was due to her incarnation that the red star hiding behind the Moon could be seen at all, since at any other time the Moon’s silver light would have hidden it from view.  This unique teaching has survived since the earliest days of the Velulaey cult, setting them apart from other maehr who have adopted varying theological stances on Helun-Velulaey’s nature.

An ancient tradition expanded upon with modern spirituality, moonstones are small, carefully worked shards of lapis lazuli carried as aids for prayer and meditation.  Though there are no strict rules about how they should be used or kept, some keep them in a pouch attached to a cord draped around their neck beneath their clothing, with the pouch worn as close to the heart as possible.  The eyes of the Mother are ever watchful after the hearts of Her most devout.

Owing to their past as keepers of the priesthood, Nighthearts are encouraged to wear robes of pale, moonlight honouring colours that remind them of their Mother’s eternal protection.  This demonstrates particular religious zeal for a people who, more often than not, wear garments suited for battle in a world that regularly means them harm.  To eschew mundane protection in favour of Her unbreakable aegis reveals a deep devotion indeed.

⁂ The Dark Trinity

The clan has since time immemorial defined the soul of both the individual malyker and the broader malyker state.  In Aegisian times, a triad of great clans led the malyker people, empowered by their particularly deep bonds of friendship and mutual respect.  This Dark Trinity was formed of clans Klaren and Shadeleaf alongside the pious Nighthearts.  In modern times, this heritage manifests as a deep reverence for ancestors of all three clans as the root family to which the modern malyker diaspora owes much of its wisdom.

From a young age, children of Clan Drasereth begin a structured education in the skills essential to survival and service within the clan. They are taught warrior disciplines, including swordsmanship, and defensive tactics, emphasizing precision, endurance, and loyalty. Simultaneously, they will learn navigation and survival in the desert, reading the winds, stars, and shifting sands to safely traverse the harsh northern dunes. Integral to their upbringing is also the instruction in funeral rites and ancestor veneration, learning to conduct sacred ceremonies, handle the ashes of the dead, and honor spirits through ritual offerings.

Clan Drasereth members bear a distinct visage shaped by their dark-elven lineage and generations beneath the harsh desert sun. Their skin ranges from ashen gray to deep purple, often marked by faint, wind-etched lines that speak to a life spent among the sands. Their hair is almost universally white or silver, a trait said to be a blessing from Luara, the Spirit of the Moon, and a symbol of clarity amid desolation. The most defining feature of the Drasereth are their eyes which are deep crimson or dark red. Elders claim this hue reflects the eternal flame of their ancestors, burning within each descendant. Many Drasereth adorn themselves with simple desert garb dyed, often accented with bone charms, woven sashes, and ritual markings of ash or sand to honor their lineage and the spirits that guide them. Drasereth physically are more muscular then other elves, and is a great deal of pride for the Drasereth. Drasereth height spans aprox. 5'6 - 6'3.

Clan Drasereth holds freedom as a virtue. The right to walk one’s path beneath the desert stars without chains. To the Drasereth, loyalty is earned through action and shared struggle, not birth. Thus, they welcome other Maehr who prove their endurance, discipline, and respect for their ancestors. Vraz’Logath

The sacred funerary rite of Clan Drasereth, Vraz’Logath, binds the fallen to both desert and ancestor. The body is anointed with sacred oils and desert sand, then consigned to flame, a passage believed to release the soul while honoring the enduring bond with the ancestors. During the pyre, the clan intones the Litany of Whispers, guiding the spirit to join the eternal chorus of the dead. After the fire, the ashes are carefully collected: some will scattered across the dunes to mingle with the murmuring sands, while all ashes are preserved within sacred urns, ensuring that every member of the clan, past and present, remains a living part of future pyres and ancestral memory. In this way, each flame carries the strength, guidance, and remembrance of all who came before, a testament to the clan’s unbroken devotion.

As part of the rite, each deceased is presented with a Ko-Hon, a carved companion meant to guide them through the afterlife. As Drasereth tradition, Ko-Hon generally take the form of desert creatures such as jackals, serpents, or a vulture. Ko-hon can also be ancestral figures meant to represent those before us. carved from dark sandstone or obsidian, and each bears a small, crimson red gem in its forehead, symbolizing the enduring gaze of the ancestors. These companions are buried with the ashes or placed near the pyre, serving as guides for the soul’s journey.

Azxyn-Hon: 

The Azxyn-Hon is the coming-of-age ceremony of Clan Drasereth, celebrating the transition from youth to adulthood. This Ceremony takes place when a Drasereth Maehr turns 18.  Held atop sacred desert dunes under the glow of the moon, the ritual blends reflection, martial skill, and communal celebration. Clan members gather around ancestral fires to sing, honor past generations, and share stories of courage, loyalty, and endurance. Maehr participate in symbolic sand rituals representing their life and lineage, as well as practice duels, demonstrating skill, discipline, and readiness to uphold the clan’s duties.

Myhel Xeemarum:

Myhel Xeemarum is the traditional marriage rite of Clan Drasereth, celebrating the union of two clan members in life, lineage, and service to the ancestors. Held under the moon atop dunes or at clan shrines, the ritual involves pouring colored desert sands into a shared vessel, lighting twin ceremonial flames, and exchanging symbolic gifts. The ceremony invokes the guidance of Zarahl, Lesser Spirit of the Shifting Dunes, and Luara, Spirit of the Moon, to bless the couple’s life together. Logath'vrax:

Translating to Desert Superior. The Logath'Vrax has similar roles as a Clan elder although will provide leadership to the clan when necessary, and helps disputes regarding disagreements among elders. A new Logath'vrax is pre picked by the current leader before times of passing or when the leader steps down. The Logath'vrax that is picked will always be a current standing village elder.

Clan Elder:

The Clan Elders are the seasoned leaders and advisors of Clan Drasereth, chosen for their wisdom, experience, and devotion to the ancestors and spirits. Each elder oversees and has at least one indepth specialized knowledge to specific domain of the clan’s rituals, combat training, lore, or diplomacy. ensuring that traditions, ceremonies, and knowledge are preserved and passed to younger generations. The elders are highly respected, and they collectively guide the clan in decision making. In matters of dispute, the Logath’Vrax may arbitrate, but the Elders’ advice forms the foundation of the clan’s choices.

Sha'thar:
The Sha’thar is responsible for the care and recovery of the clan, skilled in both herbal remedies and desert survival medicine. They tend to wounds from combat, illness, and ritual trials, often combining practical treatment with spiritual rites to honor the ancestors and appease the spirits. Sha’thar are respected members of the clan, serving as both caregivers and advisors in health, endurance, and the proper treatment of the fallen.

Ty'syl:
A Ty’syl is a warrior who embodies the ideals of Clan Drasereth: loyalty, endurance, and respect for the ancestors. Trained from a young age in desert navigation, combat, and ceremonial duties, they serve as both protectors of the clan and exemplars of its values. Ty’syl participate in duels, and are always mindful that their actions reflect upon their lineage. Beyond martial skill, they are expected to uphold codes of honour, act with discipline, and maintain spiritual awareness, ensuring that every strike and every victory aligns with the guidance of the clan’s ancestors.

Clan Origins

Once residing in Rah’tuma, a vassal that had once resided under the Iron Horde and now stood under Nor’velyth, a pair of elven siblings were reunited by their pharaoh Atemu-Ta. Karuna had finally come home and was with her brother once again. At this time Amal Alniyl was a name not yet spoken, not yet even thought of, for the clan was only just about to be born. 

For you see this was not a clan known through the ages, it was not a large family but instead, a spark, a spark of which started one faithful day when a certain ker, Narithen Karvit had stepped foot into Rah’Tuma (Or, well, the Desert Lily Tavern) and met its hostess Karuna. Whilst in time she would become the high priestess of Freedom, that was not yet, as fates intertwined that day and made the clan that we know today. 

Visiting Rah’Tuma frequently, Narithen had soon become one of the fighters and protectors for the small Vassel, only to then follow that path and become a champion under Karuna’s lead. Karuna was blessed with the Emerald wings of Ahura’ma, the Lady of Freedom, after which Karuna stood for (and her champions fought for) freedom in both Ahura’ma and the pharaoh Atemu-Ta’s name.

Eventually, things began to fall apart and would soon start to spiral out of place, for debates and quarrels started between the common people and the pharaoh over his actions towards outsiders and those of different faiths. The first to leave would be Narithen Karvit, followed by his Priestess and now significant other Karuna Amal, they ventured off to the capital that ruled and at this current date still rules over Rah’Tuma: Nor’velyth, where they met with the Primarch Laevona. There, they were welcomed with open arms. 

Following this departure, Karuna’s sister Layla and their dear friend Ney’La soon left as well. Both expressed their own experiences and reasons why they had left and, with that, they were welcomed to live with the couple. It was at this point that the two decided to form a Clan, one where people need not fear the repercussions towards caring for others. One where they could follow what they wished, so long as they agreed that in exchange for being cared for, they would care in turn. No questions asked, no history haunting anyone- A place one could call home, so long as they were willing to put in the same amount of effort to support one another. No matter the background or origin…

Clan Hierarchy

Tepey Pa’it

The Tepey Pa’it is the Father of the clan. Standing beside Tepet Mewet in leadership, he acts as the clan’s figurehead and central leader in external matters.

Tepet Mewet
The Tepet Mewet is the Mother of the clan. Sharing power and responsibility on par with the Tepey Pa’it, she cares for the clan, serving to guide and comfort those within.

Clan Mehwet

All Clan Members are of equal standing. No one member outranks the rest, as even those of the Tepey Pa’it and Tepet Mewet serve to merely provide direction - with as much importance given to them as any other member. 

Clan Sesh

The Sesh, commonly known as scholars and scribes, are those who govern the clan library and Apothecary. Their duties involve adding to the clan library, writing books, or teaching and learning Alchemy.

Clan Shewty

The Shewty are the merchants of the clan. Their focus is the creation of specific items unique to them, or to collect commonly used items to be sold at the clan stall in Kaethul. 

Clan Sewnu

The Sewnu are the clan doctors, commonly seen working alongside the Sesh, Apothecaries and scholars to learn and develop their knowledge of the medicinal ways. An Amal Alniyl Sewnu is expected to aid Nor’Velyth’s citizens as well as their fellow clan members. 
 

Clan Religion

The Amal as a whole have no specific religion or way of life. The Amal choose to live freely in all aspects and may practise their own religion and beliefs so long as these beliefs and practices do not intentionally and actively harm those around them without due consent. In regards to not sharing a religion, a ‘live and let live’ philosophy is to be respected: If an issue is held with another’s religion, bring it to the Tepey Pa’it or Tepet Mewet- Do not confront one another and risk harm.

Traditions and Customs

1. Amal, from the creation of the clan, has put a heavy focus upon following one’s own path. That is not to say, however, that the clan does not have specific focuses. The Amal are highly focused upon the scholarly and alchemical arts, with a desire to grow their knowledge in such areas. Similarly, they have a heavy leaning towards a marketeer-style of income, so it’s expected that members of the clan would aid in one of these pursuits, or at least bring something unique to the clan itself.
    

2. The Amal are a close-knit group, and a tradition within the clan is that of representing this bond through symbology. Those of clan Amal Alyniyl can often be seen to have something that represents the clan, usually in the form of the clan’s phoenix symbol. This manifests in a variety of ways, ranging from a tattoo, to jewellery, or a symbol on a piece of clothing.
    

3.  For every child within the clan, a birthday celebration will be held once they turn 18. On this day they are gifted a weapon personalised to them in order to aid them in protecting both themselves and those they care about, within or outside the clan. 
    

4. Amal is a nurturing and inward-focused group; they prioritise each other and their close friends over grander concepts such as nations, but if members reside within a nation they are expected to answer the call to aid the land they call home. 

Amal Alniyl Principles

Compassion

An Amal should show compassion to those around them. Showing such to your fellow clan members ensures the clan's survival. We’re in this together, and that should never be forgotten. Act with care, and you shall find that same compassion returned in kind.

Courage 

An Amal must be courageous. There are dark things out there in the world, and it’s not up to us whether or not they come knocking. To cower and run is to allow the darkness to win, whether it be internal or external. To allow the dark to win is to fail your clan members, who lean upon you as you do them.

Ferocity 

An Amal must be ferocious. Compassion is important, as is the courage to stand for one’s beliefs and not back down in the face of the odds. But ferocity is what will allow one to follow both of these. When pushed to the end, be quick, be decisive, and show no mercy. Future problems can be dealt with in the present, and violence is a perfectly acceptable answer to some questions.

Understanding

An Amal must strive for understanding. Ferocity and ruthlessness will serve one well, but you must also focus on the other side of the coin. When available, understand others. Friend or enemy, an Amal must strive to understand the world around them and what they face, so that they may make informed decisions. To act rashly and blindly is the behaviour of animals, not a descendent. 

Freedom 

Most importantly, an Amal must place Freedom above all other things in their life. Perhaps considered paradoxical as a ruling, but the rights and freedoms of others are of paramount importance to clan Amal Alniyl. The soul is made to be free, and much like the phoenix, should soar free of any and all cages.

Origins

To the lush island with abundant resources, a dream state of a place holding a scatter of mountains. A plentiful number of dark elven families supportive of Velulaei settled in these lands after the fall of Magara’lin. A true tragedy across Axios had forced the dark elves into their groups. In the village of Mayhzydar the dark elven groups were indeed at a loss with what happened, but with their newly dark ashen skin, they would praise the spirit of the moon that granted it all. However, due to the trauma, they slowly hid part of their history to keep everyone united rather than repeating another event.

Nevertheless, a few conflicts arose, but within the island of Mayhra, nothing would break the kin apart as all had to undergo a coming-of-age task. As the 18th birth moon rises, a little Mayhrian would hear the wind chimes ring throughout the village for a celebration of a new chapter—the journey to find oneself whether it be with the village or elsewhere new to them.

Mayhzydar, translating from Vel’luah to Wind City, was given the name by the first generation of settlers due to the immense wind that blew through the village. Instead of seeing it as a problem the Mayhzydarzh embraced their circumstances and incorporated the element throughout their daily life. Another element highly sacred to the Mayhzydarzh was the water. The beautiful blue hues within the ocean,  springs, and falls further the first-generation settlers with a certain sense of home.

Appearance

Most of the Maiheiuh family line have amethyst or dark sapphire eyes, white wavy hair, and a colorful array of skin-ashen hues. However, there is a notable recessive trait of onyx eyes. Height range can be 5ft - 6’4’’ft (152cm - 193cm).

Fashion

Their preferred clothing choice is light and airy as their native climate was hot and humid. They wear colorful attire, often shades of blue, green, and purple to compliment the sea and vibrant island. Many accessories can be seen adorning the Mayhrians especially when it comes to piercings and gems that are sacred to the Mayhra. Many jewels would attach to either the outfits or be worn as necklaces, rings, and bracelets. Each represents a duty and trait of oneself. The placement of the piercings showcases one’s duty, making it easy for others to seek out the duty they need or wish to partake in a similar path by becoming their mentor. In the new realm, there have since been additions to these duties that include shamans as that was not practiced in Mayhra. Another indicator that the Mayhrians paid close attention to were the gems. It was a personality indicator that each Mayhrian received from their tribe leader at the age of 13. The importance however was rooted in the fall of Magara'lin; to mitigate any conflicts of conflicting personalities to be at a small minimum.

Traditions

 Festivals 

During Malin’s Welcome the Mayhlynn set up festivities all season long to give gifts and celebrate the land they occupy. These festivities still apply to wherever the Maiheiuh drift. No matter how small it may be, at any given opportunity the Maiheiuh will celebrate. 

   One of the main events of the season is the theater in the skies. All the performers showcase their talents atop the highest mountain as a collective gift to the land. They would perform well into the night for Mother Moon. Now that the Maiheiuh has embraced the spirits by name, there are many festivals to be held for Luara and their Ancestors such as Helun-Velulaeya and Ythelhya.

Coming of Age

At the age of 16,  a young Maiheiuh learns how to make a wind chime. This helps prepare the young Maiheiuh to construct their own wind chime as it tells their life’s story. 

At the age of 18, since the Maiheiuh of Almaris is not as isolated, the primary ancestral trials do not fit as well in the new settings. However, it is still encouraged that a Maiheiuh is to travel wherever the wind may take them. But before doing so, the members of the Maiheiuh must complete the trials to honor their ancestors. 

Marriage Rites

The couple creates an art piece dedicated to their significant other and has it on display or performed to the family as a sign to tell that a recent proposal has taken place. Before the wedding day, the couple is taken on a spirit walk to Isuz realm, the spirit of love. There they will meet two swans, the lessers Zur and Irlal. Zur the spirit of first love and Irlal the spirit of commitment. After the wedding has taken place, a symbol of each other’s love is crafted and then placed on the Maiheiuh Wind Chime.

The Spirits were reintroduced when the Maiheiuh left Mayhra and settled in the lands of Almaris, specifically within the city of Nor’asath. Although, respect and celebration for the ancestors always reign, especially for Helune Velulaei. With this understanding, the family holds this faith quite sacred in their practice and has discovered more spirits and ancestors to which they feel a close connection.

Formerly known as clan R’ikarth , clan Va'eylul history is a lengthy one.

Emerging from humble beginnings as hunters in Esbec among the swamps of Arcas they followed Zirath R’enar pilgrimage and embarked on a journey when they ventured into Urguani lands. There, they delved into the depths of the earth, honing their skills in metallurgy and forging a deep bond with the mountains and rugged landscapes that became their temporary home.

Their mastery of metallurgy became renowned, and as they returned to their elven kin, they carried with them a reputation for crafting exceptional weapons and armor. Settling in Stygian Hollow, they contributed to the construction of the first buildings and were rewarded with their first clan house, finally transforming from a simple hunters’ family to a fully fleshed out Maehr clan thanks to Zirath’s guidance, solidifying their place within the growing community. The Va'eylul clan, known as R’ikarth at the time, shared their metallurgical knowledge generously, enriching the collective craftsmanship of their Maehr kin.

In later years, the Va'eylul clan played a significant role in historical events as their founder emerged as a central figure. After assuming a leadership role in Stygian Hollow, he spearheaded the establishment of the first recorded Nor'asath principality in the Nordic lands. With the support of fellow maehr and mali'fenn, he became the prince of the maehr alongside Prince of the Mali’Fenn, Vytrek, holding this esteemed position for several decades. This period marked a defining chapter in the clan's history, solidifying their influence and contributing to the shaping of the maehr society.

Despite their growing expertise in metallurgy, the Va'eylul clan never forgot their hunting heritage and continued delving in ambitious hunting expeditions.

And thus their forged weapons became synonymous with their exceptional craftsmanship and prowess on the battlefield.

The Thulun branch, born from the deep bond between the clan founder Zirath R’enar and his sibling Anerian Thulun, brought a new aspect to the clan's structure and spirituality. Anerian played a vital role in fostering discipline, organization, and harmonious coexistence within the clan. Their influence extended beyond their own ranks, as they became respected advisors sought after for their strategic thinking and guidance in matters of order and structure.

Following the temporary disappearance of the clan's founder for a span of several decades, Anerian Thulun stepped into the role of clan leader. During this time, Anerian successfully led the clan, ensuring its stability and continued growth. Even after the founder's eventual return, Anerian Thulun retained the position of clan leader, continuing to guide and govern the Va'eylul clan with wisdom and dedication. Marriage

Marriage is considered to be a deeply personal affair in Clan Va'eylul. Still an exchange of material gifts between lovers is expected, these can range from anything from simple rings to magically imbued artifacts. Mutually received tattoos are also considered a valid form of gift exchange. Regardless of the approach the Patriarch will have the gifts exchanged and the marriage ceremony on record.

There are many traditions and practices that are held during a marriage, such as ceremonial spars, blessings from the patriarch and more.

Founded by Xypher , first the of Thuluns, the clans bloodline goes back five generations and has a long history both with and away from their fellow maehr depending on the political climate. 

The Thuluns are thinkers at heart and despite their stoic disposition are considered to be the de facto ‘caretakers’ and guardians of the clan.

Gurzka Onuul Laybuaeth

(forging Ritual of Unity)

Every five years, the Thulun and R'enar branches gather in the clan's forge. Led by the master smith, they collaborate to forge a special ceremonial weapon, armor or utensil of their choice. This creation represents the shared heritage and strength of the branches, symbolizing unity within Clan Va'eylul. Once completed, the clan's Leader offers the weapon to the spirits. It is then prominently displayed in the clan hall.

Onuulaeth Aeylul

(Ritual of Knowledge)

In the library or study area, Thulun members gather surrounded by shelves of books and ancient tomes. Led by a designated Thulun elder, the ritual focuses on the pursuit of knowledge. An in-depth lesson on topics such as maehr history, Spirit worship, and other cultural aspects is conducted. Although Thulun members are expected to attend, it is open to participation from R'enar branch members and even outsiders of the clan who share a thirst for knowledge. Following the lesson, each participant follows their intuition and selects a book or scroll. Passages from the chosen texts are read, leading to lively discussions and reflective conversations on their deeper meanings and practical applications. Together, the Thulun members and other attendees delve into shared wisdom, reaffirming the immense value of knowledge and the inclusivity of the clan's intellectual pursuits.

Ma’lelaeth Urezduk

(Trial of brotherhood)

The R'enar warriors assemble in a designated training ground, prepared for a physical and spiritual challenge. Led by the patriarch or matriarch, the ritual highlights the importance of brotherhood/sisterhood within the branch. The warriors form pairs or small groups. The challenge consists of physical tests, such as combat simulations, hunts, obstacle courses, and team challenges. Through collaboration, leveraging individual strengths, and fostering teamwork, the warriors overcome the obstacles. The ritual concludes with a celebration of their accomplishment. This is much more than a simple training as each warrior, upon passing the rituals, receives a new carved symbol on their armor, serving as a symbol of their skill and commitment.

Ma’lelaeth Gehexel

(Trial of the sacrifice)

Thulun clan members partake in periodic fasting for a month. During which members will not indulge in any  food or drink from the crack of down to the edge of dusk.  The purpose of this is to create discipline and a sense of introspection in the clan members. The Maehr of the Xypher Thuluns time were a hungry, scrappy bunch that would ration food to last days if need be. To feel oneness with their struggles is to carry through the most of a month feeling  the pain of hunger.

Ayleaeth Szyr’mozhel

(Fire of the Ancestors)

The Ayleaeth Szyr’mozhel is a sacred ceremony that takes place every four years in front of the Szyr’mozhethe Ayle (ancestral fire), situated within the family's shrine. This flame, diligently tended by members from both the Thulun and R'enar branches, symbolizes the eternal presence of the clan's ancestors.

During the ceremony, clan members come together to pay their respects to the ancestors, whose names and stories are chronicled in the clan's Olanuaeth Szyr’mozhel (book of the ancestors). They offer prayers and make requests for blessings from the souls of their ancestors in the realm of Stargush'stroh.

This deeply spiritual ceremony not only honors the memory of the ancestors but also strengthens the spiritual connection between the living and the departed. 

Through the Ayleaeth Szyr’mozhel, the clan reaffirms their gratitude for the guidance and wisdom bestowed upon them by their ancestors.

It serves as a reminder of the clan's ancestral lineage, instilling a sense of belonging and preserving the ancestral traditions that form the foundation of their cultural identity.

Vudaeth Cernunyrel

(Feast of the Hunter)

After a successful hunt or noteworthy accomplishment, Clan Va'eylul comes together in their clan hall or outdoors to enjoy a lively feast called the Vudaeth Cernunyrel. This festive event celebrates the clan's hunting prowess and offers a chance to savor the rewards of their achievements.

The feast is the centerpiece of the  Vudaeth Cernunyrel, featuring the meat from their triumphant hunts, if it's edible. If not, they creatively prepare dishes using meat from previous smaller hunts, ensuring the spirit of the hunt is still present. Savory dishes like venison or boar take center stage, showcasing the clan's ability to thrive in the wild.

During the banquet, the clan members who participated in the successful hunt are honored. Their courage, skills, and contributions to the clan's accomplishments are celebrated through stories and toasts.

While Clan Va'eylul cherishes their strong bonds, the Hunters' Banquet extends beyond their clan. It embraces neighboring clans and allies, fostering unity and camaraderie. As the first to bear the R'enar name, Zeclas played a crucial role in shaping the early family members. To the once small family he taught the art of monster hunting, leaving a lasting legacy of expertise and a deep respect for nature. His presence continues to inspire and guide the R'enar warriors through the texts and stories that tell of his life, fueling their pursuit of excellence and commitment to the clan's traditions.

In addition to his formidable skills and legendary accomplishments in monster hunting, Zeclas was known as a powerful and protective family patriarch. Born on the streets of a wood elf village in Athera, Xypher was the first of  the Thuluns. He precedes Anerian by five generations of Thulun leaders and is the progenitor of it’s core ideals.His early life was one marked by poverty and hunger. Spending his childhood in orphanages that would cast their oldest members out once they were set up with simple trades. Be it farming, cleaning  or fighting.

He was described at having combed back white hair, a nearly groomed beard and full black robes. His eyes shined blue like the early hours of dawn and he wielded a long cerulean staff forged with bamboo and leather.

He was a prolific reader and pragmatist, picking up any textbooks he could find on business and trade, eventually taking on mercantilism in his early twenties. Xypher was often stated to have had perfect recall and could memorize complex trade networks over singular voyages. He was among the fewest of Maehr in his region  and would often find his carriage a target for vandalism and theft, shaping him into a loner at a young age and is noted  to have struggled to endear himself to more experienced merchants he could learn from, his strong work ethic being the only thing that maintained most working relationships. 

For reasons still not fully known he would abruptly close down his merchant life to pursue a Maehr education in the great Libraries of Ker’lomi.

Within these walls he would become a scholar of history and write a great deal on philosophy.  Spending long hours of the day in the Library  in relative seclusion, often pondering  the nature of existence and beyond that, hoping to make sense of the hardships of life.  Why was it that the Maehr suffered so much indignity  at the hands of all folk, be it Morri, humans or High Elves.

Most of his writings pertained to Ethics and the metaphysical. Becoming a strong critic moral-relativist in part due to his harsh upbringing  but also because he believed that the absence of any guiding moral axis would necessarily lead to a society defined only by anarchy and hedonism. A convenient philosophy for those seeking to act on their worst impulses with none of the moral baggage.

The armor of Clan Va'eylul is crafted from strong blackened steel plates, giving it a formidable appearance. It is adorned with golden borders and intricate designs.

The helmet is a central piece of the armor and features a golden mask on the front. This mask, made of shining gold, is a personalized symbol that represents the wearer's individuality. Each warrior has the freedom to customize their mask as they see fit, allowing for personal expression within the clan's unified identity.

To add a touch of elegance, the armor is decorated with a cloth in the wearer's chosen color. This cloth is wrapped around the helmet like a hood, draping over the shoulders and neck. Another piece of cloth, in a matching or complementary color, is wrapped around the waist like a skirt. It is secured with a symbolic golden rope, symbolizing the bond among clan members.

The combination of blackened steel, gold accents, and personalized cloth creates a striking and recognizable look for Clan Va'eylul warriors.

The Clan Va'eylul armor holds great significance within the clan, and it is frequently worn by its members during various occasions. It is considered mandatory attire during ceremonies, clan events, hunts, battles, and other important gatherings where the clan's presence and appearance are important.

While the armor is often preferred as daily attire by clan members, they do have the freedom to choose their own outfits for everyday wear. However, even in their daily attire, clan members usually incorporate elements of golden jewelry to pay homage to their heritage and showcase their connection to the clan. They may wear golden rings, bracelets, necklaces, buckles, headbands, belts, chains, earrings, piercings, circlets, and other accessories that add a touch of elegance and symbolism to their personal style.

Zircon was the fifth and final child of Jus and Mia. A slender Mali’ker that saw the world through the eyes of a jaded scholar. Those of his sect in the ancient days believed him the reincarnation of the first Wau’ner. The elven family Jus and Mia came from. Sent forth to ensure Jusmia remained no matter what. Zircon sought understanding of the material world, its building blocks. Creation. Understanding the Aenguldaemons which war in the stars above. Zircon became enthralled with the spirits for once reason alone. The pact between shaman and spirit served both sides, these spirits changed with the mortals, and their reward was a true paradise where stagnation was killed in the fires of the realms of Stargush’Stroh. Zircon sought the might to ensure his kin would ever go forward. His ideals often crashed with his eldest brother, Agate. The two rarely agreed on much. 

It was Zircons use of blood which drove Agate against him in the end. During the fall of Magara’lin, Garnet was slain. Both Sects Zircon and Garnet watched as Zircon used the corpse of Garnet to fuel the arcane machinations of the caster in the final moments of Magara’lin, which grew hostility and paranoia between the rest of the clan and Zircon.

Sect Zircons’ Function in Jusmia

Sect  Zircon is the first and last line of defense of Jusmia. These Jusmia are tasked with the documentation of otherworldly magics, their effects, how to counteract them, and understanding of their nature. Those of Zircon find themselves in a state of near constant travel. Zircon plays with fire, undertaking tasks that the rest of the clan simply refuses to or entrust of Zircon. The knowledge gathered by Zircon of the world around them is returned constantly to the rest of the clan. Zircon itself retains strange and eldritch rituals which they invoke to prepare the clan for the threats beyond the veil. Zircon tetters the fine line of morality. As their work often requires them to undertake horrific tasks which go against the ideals of Jusmia. For this, upon returning from such heretical missions. Those of Zircon perform near constant worship and praise of the spirits in their downtime to ensure their entrance of Stargush’Stroh. To those of Zircon, words like defeat, victory, honor, dishonor mean little. There is but one truth to the world. Survival. 

Those of Zircon are to make elven weekly reports of their travels and interactions to the Head of Sect Zircon, which then issues these reports to the Head of Sect Ruby

Sect Zircon recognizes the right of other worldly beings to exist. It is vital to the balance of the world. But to them, the spirits hold true as the rightful lords of the material world. For only they are shaped by its actions as taught by Carnelian. Azdrazi, Paladins, Druids, are eldritch but required pieces in the mortal coil, and Zircon may often implore favours with these beings to achieve their own ends. That of the void is carefully watched, as it historically has caused the most damage. Further, those of Zircon believe it vital to keep their fingers close to the pulse of shamans. As shamans which seek to create a second cataclysm of the level seen during the Orgonic Plague surely remain out there. Zircon can not condone the use of manipulating of the soul stream. That which is divine ought not be interfered upon. Yet these beings of divinity ought never seek true control of the material world. Their place is beyond the veil, as the Creator intended.

Those who undertake this trial are survivors of horrors from beyond the veil. In the force of Inferic battles, to the wars waged by aenguldaemons or deities that spill onto the material world, in addition to survival of sieges upon voidal tear or similar rifts which welcome other worldly influence. Upon completion and proof is given to other Jusmia, the Tatau of Tenacity is marked upon them. 

Trial of Caution
Those who undertake this trial are tasked with the full documentation of orders, religions, warrior sects, or general plots which would threaten the life of mortals due to its nature. These documents are to be submitted to Sect Ruby. Upon completion, the Tatau of Caution is granted. 

Trial of Wodanaz
Those who undertake this trial are tasked with the full documentation of non deity magical orders, magics, magical arts, the abilities of magi, the use of mana in different applications. To be observed, never practiced if it threatens the Zircons place in Stargush’Stroh. These documents are to be submitted to Sect Ruby. Upon completion, the Tatau of Wodanaz is granted. 

Trial of the Beast
Those who undertake this trial are tasked with the pacification of a Dark Ancestral Spirit, or known in the modern age as Inferi. Be it lethal, or invoking proper banishment to the Moz Strima or any plane of existence that is not the material world. Proof is to be brought to others of Jusmia in the form of the creature's head or any limb as proof of slaying. Eye witness accounts are desired for banishment. Once completed. The Tatau of the Beast is granted.

Trial of Divinity
Those who undertake this trial are tasked with the documentation of any deity based magic in the material world. Its abilities, and create a doctrine of what they believe its function to be and purpose in the material world. How these invokers use their mana to connect to these beings, ideologies of these groups and arts. In addition to the documentation of any deity based threat against the material world. Once completed, proof given. The Tatau of Divinity is granted.

Garnet was the fourth born of Jus and Mia. A towering Mali’ker of imposing might. Garnet found life simple. There was little room of middleground, there was no black or white, nor rainbow of confusion in Garnets mind. Life, simply was. The weak would seek protection, the strong would offer it if they so desired. For Jusmia, Garnet so desired. Within the ancient city of Magara’lin, Garnet served as muscle for hire in her youth. Before the Azulian heresy drove her attention to Uradas. She became a Vindicator of Magara’lin. From this day, she served alongside the Vindicators. Those of her Sect were the muscles of Jusmia. Trial of Leyd
Those who undertake this trial are tasked with the non-lethal overpowering of a warrior. A challenge for a spar without weapons to be issued to another warrior mortal. Upon defeating the rival warrior through non-fatal means. Proof is given to the other Jusmia, and they are marked with the Tatau of Leyd. 

Trial of Votar
Those who undertake this trial are tasked with the slaying of a dangerous monster or creature. Upon completion of this trial, and proof is brought to other Jusmia. They are marked with the Tatau of Votar. 

Trial of the Vindicator
Those who undertake this trial are tasked with the pacification of an Azulite. Through lethal or non-lethal ways. If the Azulite is too far gone beyond reason, and their path can not be swayed from the mark of Azul. Those who take this trial are then tasked with the slaying of the Azulite. If the Azulite is not too far gone beyond reason, they are to be reformed by those who take this trial. Once completed and proof is given to other Jusmia. They are marked with the Tatau of the Vindicator.

Ruby was the third-born child of Jus and Mia. Ruby in early life turned her focus to the laws of Magara’lin and the laws of other realms. She studied statecraft with her father, Jus. In early adulthood, Ruby took up public service to the city of Magara’lin. Performing mundane tasks as record keeping. In addition to the recording of members of Jusmia, their roles and sects. Ruby focused her intent on the writings of the mortal world, for in them she found understanding and patience weighed true beyond all else.

Ruby serves as the Clans voice of reason. Upholding decisions made by the collective clan, recording the actions of members. Adoptees, what resources are spent and traded between Sects, as well as outside nations or populations of mortals.  They maintain in the home isle of Reza’jer, the Hall of Theruz. Where documents as complex as ancient treaties to mundane writings as Birth Certificates are stored. Sect Ruby approves, and validates ledgers of all Sects. Each Sect of Jusmia is to give in an elven monthly report to the head of Sect Ruby on their activities.

In addition, Sect Ruby maintains and creates laws and regulations for Clan Jusmia. These laws require the vote and agreement of three out of the five Sect Heads of Jusmia.

Sect Ruby calls forth the clan to hold Ruby Courts. Where every member of Jusmia is welcome to come and weigh their input of clan matters to be voted upon by the clan. 

Sect Ruby holds the authority of the Ruby Senate. A group of Jusmia that answer to the Head of Sect Ruby, which revise, adapt, create the Laws of the Ruby Senate.

Ruby trails revolve around matters of law and state. The Trial of Order entails that who is undertaking the trial is able to disway conflict between any two mortals. Using words and simple reasoning or logic alone. No force can be applied for this trial, for it violates Serenity. Once completed, and proof given to another Jusmia. The Tatau of Order is granted. 

Trial of State
Ruby trails revolve around matters of law and state. The Trail of State requires dedication and time. Those who are undertaking the trial gain the ability to revise and make any measure of amendment to any mortal settlements own statecraft, be it in the form of laws, regulation, or beyond. Once proof is given to another Jusmia. The Tatau of State is granted. 

Trial of Law
Ruby trails revolve around matters of law and state. The Trial of Law, entails that who is undertaking the trial draft a revision or amendment to the Laws of the Ruby Senate, that is reviewed and taken to a Ruby Court. The trial requires that this law passed the voting process of the Ruby Court. Once completed, the Tatau of Law is granted. 

Trial of Senate
Ruby trails revolve around matters of law and state. The Trial of the Senate requires the approval of the Head of Sect Ruby to undertake. Those who undertake this trial are required to host three Ruby Courts, where matters of Jusmia are to be voted upon by doctrine that those who are taking the trial have created. In order for the trial to be completed, more than half of the voting body must vote in favor of the new doctrine. Once completed, the Tatau of Senate is granted.

History

Clan Val'athri began in the early days of Axios, calling the underground city of Magara’lin home. In these days, the Val'athri served as a devoted group of dark elves, dedicated to being among the few to venture to the surface for food and trade. Their specialties lay within canvas sails of their vessels as they sailed upon the rivers and oceans surrounding the continent, seeing them as an extension of Luara’s domain like the underground lake that they called home. Those that remained behind spent their time on Luara’s Lake, fishing and taking ‘ker to the Temple of the Moon, which sat near its center under an open part of the caverns where moonlight could filter through.

During the rebellion of Azul, the Val'athri served a vital role in the evacuation of Magara’lin, utilizing their ships to escape the attacks with the survivors. The fleet was led by Vaermina, who was the matriarch of the clan, out to the safe waters away from the continent. With the fall of their home, the clan strove for a nomadic lifestyle, hoping that they would not meet the same fate as their kin that remained. Over time in this new lifestyle, the number of Val'athri began to dwindle. Resources on the open ocean between continents were scarce, leading every fish and bit of plant to be a sacred resource when caught. Despite this, they remained true to their beliefs and traditional methods over the centuries at sea. While much of their history was lost with sunken vessels, stories of the past were told by elder members of the clans to the new generations to pass to their children in turn to maintain the history with what few sea damaged texts remained.

A number of generations having since passed, the Val'athri heard of the dark elven spiritualists beginning to congregate once more in the city nation of Nor’Asath. This provided a new hope for the long-time seafarers as they now had the prospect of reuniting with their kin, settling down from the nomadic lifestyle that they were forced into in order to have a chance at seeing a better future.

Appearance

Members of Clan Val'athri display a variety of characteristics that can fall into two categories. Members of this clan usually have black hair with red or silver eyes. While their skin tones vary widely, many decide to adorn themselves in gold jewelry along with leather and lighter armor useful in their sailing lives. Due to their extensive travel, many adopted tattoos as a way to document their lives. Many held tattoos to represent places they had been or their personalities to those knowing the meaning behind them. Due to their constantly moving lifestyle, most Val'athri have become medium build, being well suited for heavy lifting but not so much so that it could restrict their movement in fast paced situations. Men often reach up to 6’3 and their female counterparts reach 6'0.

Culture

Due to their nomadic lifestyle on the open ocean, Clan Val'athri spend most of their time on vessels and fishing as their ancestors once did. Trade often is integrated into this by trading their catch for other goods such as cloth and grain. Their adept sailing skills make members of the clan excel at leading combat at sea with swift maneuvers only achievable by those spending a life on the ocean. Their weapons of choice tend to be short swords, harpoons, and khopesh, all of which give superior speed in tight quarters such as below deck on a sailing vessel. 

    When not engaged in fishing or sea battles, the Val'athri reach back to their roots to explore the oceans around them, returning home with tales of far away lands and tattoos to accompany those stories. Older members of the clan often dedicate their lives to shamanism once they can no longer sail, as the lifestyle is tough on the body. It is these elder members that provide guidance to the will of the spirits and remembrance of the ancestors and their tales as once told between members of the clans in the high seas.

When not at sea, those of clan Val’athri often use their swiftness and agility gained from traversing a ship as effective rangers and scouts. Often taking a more covert approach to warfare, using longbows and daggers/short swords to silently eliminate their quarry. Val’athri utilize their skills and experiences to contribute and aid their kin whenever not on the open ocean.

The Two paths

Wave Walkers

Those who follow this path devote themselves to the sea, commanding or operating seagoing vessels and aiding their kin through trade and naval warfare. These Val’athri spend their lives on and around the ocean, waiting to see where she may take them next.

Dawn Blades

To the Val’athri that call the night their own, they do not wait for the waves of the ocean to guide their step, but rather make it themselves. Those among the dawn focus on stealth and tracking, skills often developed around the sea but taken further ashore to serve and protect their kin that remain behind.
 

Traditions

Sea Trials

Upon reaching 50, members of the Val'athri clan will choose between the Wave Walkers and Dawn Blades. Should they choose the way of the oceans, newly fledged adults will head out on their first journey to sea, tasked to spend a week out on the water with nothing but a choice in fishing gear and a small sailboat made of bark and canvas sails. Part of this task is to bring home a trophy to bring back to the people as a symbol of their dedication to the clan as their ancestors once provided. This trophy would then be presented as a sacrifice to Ankrus, the Spirit of Seafaring, who provided calm waters to return their kin home from sea.

Wilderness Trials

For those selecting the Dawn Blades instead, members of the Val’athri clan will be sent into the wilderness alone and tasked with returning to their clan's home without aid. They’re given basic supplies for survival, being a bow, arrows, a dagger, and a small pouch of travel rations. From there they must use the stars to guide them and bring back a trophy as an offering for Aztran who granted them the stars to chart their way home.

Walk of the Ancestors

Upon completing their trials, showing their devotion to their kin, a shaman will take the fledgeling ‘ker on their first spirit walk as a Val'athri to meet a spirit of their choosing that they will devote their lives to, among the three that the Val'athri worship as their patron spirits. The trophy that they return with is portioned off between the clan but the best selection being given to the intended patron of the newly fledged Val’athri.
Individuals spending most of their time on the ships at sea often select Ankrus, the Spirit of Seafaring, to guide their ships in safe waters. Those which wish to dedicate themselves to Drelthok, the Spirit of Dreams, often fall into the Shamans of the clan, lending themselves as a guiding light to those kin which call to them. Finally, those that find themselves carried by the wind to many locations dedicate their lives to Aztran, the Spirit of the Sun and Stars, which gives them the brilliant skies to guide them back home.

Significance of Dreams

Individuals in Val'athri will often see their dreams as windows across time and into the spirit realm. While they may not be shamans themselves, elements of one’s dreams can often be linked to a message being told by the ancestors to their kin. Oftentimes, individuals will seek shamans to join in on spirit walks to see the true meaning of their dreams.

End of Life

While death is not always something to be celebrated, members of Clan Val'athri take it as both a moment to grieve but also celebrate. Elders and those lost early would be bundled and laid to rest in a boat with a few of their belongings to take with them on their passage into the spirit realm to join their ancestors. The close family of the ‘ker will often leave gifts to comfort them in their eternal life until they themselves arrive at Stargush. All members of the family would then prick their finger or cut their palm to contribute a drop of blood to fall upon the fallen ‘ker, to signify the piece of them leaving with their family member. Once the small boat was prepared, straw and dry bark would be added in a layer over the individual before the boat is let off to float into the sea. Once a distance away from the shore, either the partner or other close family to the deceased would fire a flaming arrow towards the boat, setting it on fire until it and its contents are taken into the sea they once called home.

Genesis- Trozet

Clan Loa'chil or the Serpent Born in Vel’luah, Are those who practice a balanced path of a Warrior and healer; they are followers of a way brought about by their Ancestor Waenia Loa'chil. Waenia began her life as a vengeful brigand lingering in the swamps of Axios. Waenia and her kin lived violent lives within the harsh marshlands boasting themselves as the mightiest of Mali's kind due to their isolation and proficiency in their thieving craft. Often Mali travelers found the lands inhospitable and would often find an unfortunate end through the poisonous plant life if not robbed by the residents. The deep snakes and crackadonks would take travelers by surprise. Waenia's tribe challenged and bested all of these things, bringing a sense of overwhelming pride. The clan lived by the tenant of survival of the fittest. Survival was integral as the clan soon challenged the marshland territories surrounding Axios.

The Maehr, an order of warriors led by Velulaei, Malin's wisest daughter and commander in the war with Iblees in the effort to uncover the mysteries of the surrounding world through their travels, dared to enter these lands. The armed force, fresh from their visit from Krugmar and on the way toward their inevitable fate, was met with Waenia’s followers. Waenia was undefeated then and challenged the Maehr. Axe in hand, she asked for a challenge in return for their weapons and valuables. Uradas raised his glaive and took the challenge confidently. The two stared at one another as tensions grew – debating each other's next moves. They would finally clash; within just a few seconds, Uradas defeated Waenia, his blade both severing her hand and marking a sizable wound across her chest. 

Uradas would leave his felled foe to their end as he continued. While he remained merciless, his wife, the Primarch Velulaei, showed mercy toward the warrior. In front of the wounded Waenia, an enormous winged serpent was called upon; gracing the fallen warrior with that she was unfamiliar with, mercy. Velulaei utilized an art learned during her journeys. Waenia stood up, realizing her life was spared, and her hand returned to her figure. One who once believed in nothing grew enthralled by the serpent and its summoner. Waenia saw true might before her. Waenia and her tribe would then follow Velulaei, becoming Maehr in their own right.

The rest of the story would be that of the rest of the Maehr, the overwhelming curse and madness. Waenia and her tribe rampaged various Mali cities until they finally obtained their freedom. They were finally waking up from their nightmare. Waenia, whose actions were founded on the madness brought about by the red mist, felt sickened by their blood stained hands. The former brute found a distaste for what had occurred and silently followed Velulaei during their mountainous domain's establishment and creation. The warrior remained troubled throughout the design of Velulaei's lands. Still a student, she never adjusted to the more civilized Mali, often feeling better off elsewhere. However, she truly enjoyed the simplicity of her former life, though still a fool, and believed herself strong for the sake of being strong by simply defeating all that passed her old home. Waenia requested residence within the most untamed lands, a peculiar underground lake full of treacherous marshes and the worst of Mangralins wildlife. Many of Waenia's tribe and children lingered within the territories. The wildlife proved dangerous with sickness and disease within the depths of these caves. It became more and more prevalent an issue for the wild Mali’ker

As a student of Velulaei, Waenia quickly came to both a realization and infatuation with one's ability to endure stability and discipline. Waenia recalled how Akezo returned to her what she valued, now making a pact that her clan would grow unstoppable, her children unshakeable, free from sickness, and a way to live with the firm might of the Python. Within the deep lakes, Waenia’s clan named themselves after the lake called Loa, meaning Serpent. Those born within this lake were known as the Loa'chil. The locals believed the spirits gifted this lake and built perfect souls to prepare the Mali’ker for the afterlife. Wild Mali’ker established guiding principles to better themselves as offerings to Death through preparation. 

The lake lurkers were known for their spiritual and practical combat and healing abilities. Their experiences in unreached lands battling chaotic beasts and unforeseen foes lent them the skills to heal, fight, and feel connected to the spirits. Not long after establishing their domain, the fated dreaded civil war. The one who insisted on swearing off violence among their kind found her kind perpetuating such—a more incredible monster using her lands to conduct dark rituals in secret within the illusive wilds. Ancient Loa'chil warriors’ accounts remained vague though they spoke of the horrors infesting their lands. What Waenia swore would turn into service toward Uradas, having been first to learn of her mentor Velulaei’s demise, she vowed to be a Vindicator to eliminate the Azul rebellion. As the flame of her old violent nature succumbed, Waenia drew her axe and left behind the Vindicator’s armor, to Uradas dismay, favoring being light on her feet.  Waenia took her tribe from territory to territory, lurking like a cloud and emerging like an explosion. The last of the Azulites fled, terrified by the mark of Python scales upon dark, bloodied warriors. With hardly any Azulite’s left breathing, Waenia returned to her dominion, shredding any sickness that may linger within her people, her quest not ending until her inevitable demise in battle.

The Loa'chil saw little reason to flee from their homelands after the Azulite war remained until the descendants returned to Axios. Inevitably the lower city proved pointless to stay within, most of the local’s knowledge scattered and the remnants seeing little progress within their lands. The Loa'chil thought to follow behind the many Mali’ker who departed in ages past. A following of Mali’ker dressed in leathers and lurker chiton stepped into the open cold, biting at the scarcely prepared warriors accustomed to their lush depths, retreating in following of the descendants from a distance until the eras. 

Synopsis

Loa'chil are a mix of tribal warriors and wild shamans typically adorned in charms and the hides of subterranean or aquatic beasts. Loa'chil often feels more at home within milder climates. The clan's most notable feature beyond their malachite eyes is the elaborate art on their bodies. Modern Loa’chil continues to follow Waenia’s way of life. They embrace and live amongst the chaos of nature's spirits, praising and paying respect to malicious forces to test their kin. A Loa’chil does so in hopes of becoming headstrong in both the body, mind, and spirit for life’s challenges. 

Notably, Loa'chil are quick to adapt or enjoy more open spaces such as forests, isolated marshes, or mountainous highlands, often spending their free time training, learning the art of survival, or zealously following the spirits all in the name of growing their connection to their roots.

The clan is uncharacteristic of most Elves. Maehr can be described as rugged, appreciating simplistic familial values. On values, Loa’chil often like sentimentality over materialistic values, holding higher weight on items they crafted or obtained. Often will display affection through creating these gifts or physical means, some saying being ferried around by a Loa’chil is a significant display of love and a source of jealousy should another do it, for one exception regarding their marriage ritual. 

Almost all members of the Loa’chil are obsessive over their health, most often boasting the pinnacle of Dark Elves regarding sheer physical prowess and athleticism, often treating what would typically be intense physical training as a fun pass time. A Loa’chil prides themselves greatly in their physical prowess, constantly finding means of flaunting their physique whenever or dressing as a means to do such. 

The Loa’chil mentality is prideful companionship. They have a superiority complex regarding their clans. They often see themselves as the strongest, though in a strange twist, they want to elevate those viewed as weak. Those who join the Loa’chil will be welcome to an inviting pack of warriors and hunters and will themselves be comfortable as another component of strength to the Den.

Appearance

Blood Loa’chil has characteristically dark skin, exceptional height, and hair color ranges between Black and  White. They are both natural and trained to have athletic builds. However, the most notable feature is the clan's trademark malachite eyes, often remarked as providing a mysterious nature to the line of warriors and shaman.

Clothing, Charms, & Aesthetics

The Loa'chil traditionally wear garments that reflect their rough upbringing in the less-than-welcoming marshes they called home. Their attire is usually made of up hides and scales collected from the various marshland beasts they would slay. Occasionally, however, one may find a Loa’chil adorned in silk pieces. Typically, the Loa'chil will carry a more rugged look to them. Their attire is more liberal, sometimes tattered, but usually minimal if not in full armor. However, it is common to see them donning a piece or two of armor with their more casual clothing. While meant for the harsh terrain they lived in, their garbs will often be accented with gems, spiritual charms, and precious metals they have collected in their travels. Additionally, the Loa'chil will always keep whichever limb they decide to play their family 'scale' tattoo upon fully exposed so that their mark can be openly seen. Of course, this only differs when they are forced to wear a proper armor set.

 A trademark of the clan are Akezos’ scales. Upon the arm of a Loa'chil are serpentine scales drawn on after a Loa'chil sustains an injury.  A wound healed earns one a scale, scars received, and close calls. Glorious acts of healing are celebrated through these scales as a badge of honor for a Loa'chil. 

Snake Taming

Following the common trend of the Loa’chil snake, taming is a common practice. What Loa’chil tame may vary between Pythons to even more venomous breeds of snakes. Loa’chil traditionally train serpents to use their venom, though also as a pet or an aesthetic to themselves, to discipline a serpent to rest upon a warrior, fearlessly being something of a feat to most clan members. 

Often the shamans of the clan may be accompanied by one or multiple serpents wrapped around their bodies or one wrapped around their shoulders. How they keep them still is a mystery to most, though they are notably always on their best behavior. 

Warrior Culture | Devotion to Kor

The Loa'chil clan directly worships and follows Kors's principles and fights in his honor. Kor is the spirit and keeper of the dead; he allows mortals to join the spirits within his paradise. Loa'chil believes that within Stargush, one is rewarded for their life. The Ambition of a Greater Ancestral is to live in a way worthy of the prize and die with life behind one worthy of song and tale. A Loa'chil’s devotion to Kor is expressed through zeal; in destroying the undead and praising the mother of the Loa'chil Waena in her prior ardor. Loa’chil expresses their acceptance and willingness of death by adorning a war paint. These war paints are typically light gray and symbolize the Loa’chil’s devotion to their values and integrity. 

Remnant culture

Far and few know that Loa'chil are the most recent departures from Magara'lin. Their tribal demeanor and characteristics are rooted within the culture of the Maehr, known as the remnants. Leaving Magara’lin after Velulaei's demise was not unanimous. The Loa'chil were among those clans that remained until an expedition of Mali'ker shamans arrived. After a party of Loa'chil led by one known as Orion, the Loa'chil exited from Magara’lin, carrying the newly formed tradition. 

The remnants were isolationists who roamed the dangerous caverns in small migrating packs. The Loa'chil did the same despite all paths leading to their deep marshland-like homes. Those of the deep caverns forgot the seasons. The depths were forever humid, and resources scarce. Hunting any creature to extinction would prove dire for not just the Loa'chil clan but the entirety of the cavernous domains to survive. To avoid extinguishing valuable chiton and resources, Loa'chil would often travel from place to place to gather various crops, mainly harvesting mushrooms and hunting lurkers for all materials the creature would provide. Loa’chil rarely settled and never found themselves attached to any particular lands. Instead, their strength drew ire, love, and tribute as they went through Magara’lin.  Even after he passed, Waenia’s sons, daughters, and followers mastered this lifestyle far before the lavish lords of the upper levels. 

The chaos in Magara’lin was grounds for a challenge for all who remained. Only the most skilled who mastered the terrain found themselves thriving. Amongst those were the Loa’chil – hardly phased by the landscape's precarious state.  Following the simple laws of the modern Magara’lin, survival of the fittest, the path of the Lunar Wells, glimmers of Luara’s divine light within the eternal darkness laid throughout Magara’lin, inadvertently enforcing the balance of resources within the land depths.

Spirits

Loa'chil are traditionally spiritualist. However, they emphasize the collection of spirits relevant to the themes of survival. While the Loa'chil praise Luara as all good Mali’ker do, they have their own more minor pantheon of which they share their distinctive beliefs and interpretations.

Akezo- The great winged serpent is an icon of the Loa'chil. The Spirit of healing and vitality has a dual purpose and significance within the eyes of the Loa'chil. Waenia's return was lost, and the wounds endured no longer allowed the former brigand to live on and mature. Akezo is fundamentally the Spirit of healing; in the Loa'chil's eyes, they are the heart of survival in one's vitality.

Kor- Death is inevitable for all, and survival is denying death. As such, the Loa'chil's veneration of Kor is one of service. Undead or anything that the Loa'chil consider an offense to their final destination is often hunted by the clan. The clan also believes each of its achievements throughout its lifespan to make themselves more valuable of a soul to Kor upon their inevitable end, enabling themselves as a proper final offering.  

Jevex- Hard work and self-sacrifice for the pack is something the Loa'chil must take to heart. Laziness is frowned upon, and self sacrifice is a righteous act favorable in the eyes of the pack and any other spirit worthy of praise. 

Dazkur- Protection and loyalty should go without explanation; clan Loa'chil acts like a pact for those worthy of such or those who can bolster the clan's stride. Dazker is a standard that extends to the clan and those under their protection. 

Votar- Loa'chil are known as the wild clan. As such, the Spirit of the hunt is given as a subject of adoration. However, beyond the simple act of hunting, the philosophy behind Votar is pragmatic, at best, the natural order of survival of the fittest. 

Laklul-  Is A  patron of their old home and favored swamps. More recently, the Loa'chil have paid more homage to the great Frog for its significance in their ancestral homeland.

Sigurzurz-  Is a  celebrated lesser of Leyd appearing as a bison naturally embodying endurance. Sigurzurz is a great bison man of untold resilience. To a Loa'chil, having the will to endure and resolve to succeed is the purest form of strength. 

Vulka- The lady of war is one beloved by the Loa'chil. Wisdom in battle is as essential to a warrior as raw power, as a wise warrior can overcome any climb, any greater struggle, as Vulka embodies the mind of a true warrior. Vulka to the Loa’chil is often portrayed as a Ker warrior holding both a spear and shield.

Kaas- Despite being a lesser of Vulka, they hold the respect of the Loa'chil; subtlety is a means of peace and not to be mistaken with cowardice. Waenia prayed to the python Kaas to conceal herself during the civil war in Mangralin, cleansing her deep jungles through the use of the terrain. To hide oneself is a means of rest and security.

Weania was one of many demons; they were violent upon meeting with Velulaei yet grew calmer upon the beginning of their new life within Magara’lin. The various shamans looked upon most of her studies with fear, often leading to her being referred to as a Witch. Through Waenia's studies, she discovered her view of the spirits.

The concept of the House of Trouble is one of necessity for the Loa’chil. While other Mali complains about the world's limitations, be it hunger and despair, the Loa’chil acknowledge these struggles as factors that drive life. To leave one on their feet, challenge, and give purpose to life are all values and tenets that hold true.  While considered harmful, these spirits are held with respect by the Loa'chil, not worshiped.

Kinul- Disease, Pestilence, and failure are the foulest of all tastes. The disease is a test of will, and the foul taste of failure brings one to life to pressure them to become their best. Kinul, unlike the others, is also seen as a foe yet one to be respected in eternal war with Akezo at all times. 

Enrohk- The lady of blood lust and savagery. They are what the Loa'chil believe to be a baser nature of all things savage, wild through order; any being may be able to become orderly. First, however, one must reflect on their baser nature in troubled times.

Krathol- Hunger, pain, and despair are all things that drive one to move. Hunger causes one to move, appreciate food, and inspire challenges. Avoiding pain is the greatest motivation of all who wish to achieve greatness, protect themselves, or allow safety within their ranks.

Veist- Illusion and Tricks are regularly used to sharpen one's wit perception and wisdom. The wise are those who strive, and experiences bring forth insight; overcoming tricks is an experience and path toward such to empower one for their future struggles. 

Ogrol- Despair, sapped strength, and entrapment are Ogrols spheres for the Loa'chil. He is a reminder of what it is to be weak, a lesson to cherish one's strength. 

Rites of Passage

While the days of Waenia are gone, the Loa’chil praise Akezo in what they refer to as the Python’s Path.  A common theme of the Loa'chils trials revolves around proving endurance and resolve within lands that breed strength.  

Offering to Waenia- Most ancestors are open about what offer is granted. However, Waenia often prefers spoils of the hunt, typically those of more incredible difficulty. After receiving an offering, Waenia's test proceeds as the Mali’ker are tasked within the ancestral realm to seek her out within her ancient proving grounds. 

Honor Seeking- Loa'chil often seeks out means to find an identity for themselves and a combative challenge. Should they not be within their lands, a Loa'chil may follow a vague quest to perform a service to slay something to aid a city, be it offering a mercenary service or challenging a powerful foe. (This trial, however, cannot be acted upon should it go against the interest of the Clan Lord, typically that of the appeal of Nor'asath and the Maehr)

The Proving Grounds- In ancient times, the Loa'chil belonged to the proving grounds of Mangra’lin. These lands were deep jungles with glistening lakes, towering and stout mushrooms, and the roaming presence of beasts. Walking within such a territory is for one to walk with Death. New Loa'chil are instructed how to survive, though they are forged within the Proving Grounds. Proving Grounds are often prayed upon and blessed before usage, whether real deep wilds or alternative means. 

Serpents Kiss- As something of a baptism for members and Blood related Loa’chil reaching their teens one of the many serpents is utilized in a ritual to bite and inject venom into the host. After a few prayers and moments of undergoing the snake venom, the host is immediately treated, thus earning their first scale and made into a Loa’chil 

Marriage Customs

Proposals typically begin in a simple exchange of words between both individuals, akin to other traditional marriages. A simple proposal between lovers rarely, however, do the Loa’chil bother with arranged marriages, often seeing no benefit to such. 

Pre-marriage involves several encounters between both sides of the family. First, there is an exchange of culture, understanding, and gift-giving, and the two who are to be wed must exchange three gifts before marriage.

To begin the tradition of gift giving, a gemstone that matches each individual's customary eye color is gifted to each partner; for a Loa'chil, they would provide jewelry with malachite origins, whereas another may be made with amethyst to represent the other eye color.

Secondly are trophy exchanges. Loa'chil creates bonds through collective might. Both parties will exchange a trophy of a great foe to affirm that bond in strength. This may vary.

Lastly is the bonding totem. When families join the Loa'chil, the family members of those to be wed will carve or forge a unique two-headed, two-faced totem to represent both families in an image representing their ancestors and a favored spirit. The totem appears during the wedding ceremony and remains within the newlyweds' home. 

Finally, after these exchanges, a ceremony is planned between both parties, traditionally at night under Luara's gaze. A torch-lit procession leads the ceremony. The bride is carried to the proper location by the selected carrier and said individual is one with much trust held by the clan due to the somewhat taboo nature of ferrying another partner. 

After the bride is carried to the ceremony, there is a wild affair followed by a rite under Luara and a blessing granted to both to celebrate their bond. Finally, the bride and groom both have their capes tied together as one under the sight of their bonding totem ending with a simple kiss.

At the chosen location, a grand feast would be held with roaring fires and a wide selection of game meats. Music is a customary must, along with dancing. The afterparty is typically led by the clan with the expectation of extraordinary energy around the fire-lit festival grounds ending the joyous occasion in exhaustion before the couple takes the totem together to their home. 

Clan Laws & Code of Conduct

On Magic

Loa'chil refuses anything that may prove defiant of a spirit's wishes or that which may diminish their vitality; Void Magicks, Necromancy, Mysticism, or anything regarding the Undead, is met with disdain. Should Loa'chil harbor Voidal Magicks, they will be disconnected or exiled from the clan.

They will be exterminated if Loa'chil holds abhorrent Dark Magicks that insult Kor. 

On Conflict

Disagreements between clan members are often judged upon merit. Trials between clan members are up to the clan leader; these can vary based on the degree of the conflict. Should it be over an object or a hide, other hunters can testify who struck the killing blow, or each can simply duel one another in unarmed combat if the matter requires a more substantial resolution. 

Honorable Roles

Clan Lord- This individual is the head of the clan and remains as such until they step down or are challenged for said title. It is not an inherited title but one earned through the Loa'chil's meritorious values though it is often given to a blood family member. An individual can challenge this title by proving their usefulness, making a case for why and having the support of the rest of the clan.

Vulyza- A role was given to the partner of the Clan lord. However, this remains a flexible role as a caregiver to the clan or anything the partner desires.

Taul Aegur- This is a title given to one individual with the talent to cut the hunts, preserve the trophies, cook, and cater to the clan with remarkable skill. This culinary knowledge is passed down from several generations of Loa'chil chefs. The Cook Master, in particular, is trusted with the ancient understanding of Magra’lin cooking and recipes of yore. 

lyeotAegur- A role given to the Veteran warriors of the clan, acting as both a champion and trainer to the new members, often guiding the newcomers. Generally, they assume the mentor role, sending Loa'chil on great journeys worthy of stories.

  The Bloodline & Clan of Valin’dar  

“In times of darkness, honour. In the face of evil, courage”

Overview 

The bloodline of Valin’dar is an ancient lineage of dark elves that traces their history back to the reign of Malin, though many records of such an ancient time are lost, or incomplete at best. Over the centuries the bloodline has gone from a once proud line of dark elves, well known, and respected; to a lesser known family of ‘ker. Many of their records have been lost to the sands of time, or scrubbed from the history books from the family’s enemies; and as time marched on, the noble line was thought to be all but forgotten about by its few living members. It is said that the progenitor of this bloodline (who is known simply as Valin) was a revered warrior in Malin’s forces, accomplishing many great deeds upon the fields of battle against man and beast alike. It was not until late in the second millenia of the First Age, where the name Valin’dar became more than just an old tale. Over the past few centuries, the family has been brought back to the status of a humble noble house, currently led by Sevrel Valin’dar; though it is far from the high status the name enjoyed in its glory days.

As is the consequence of losing one’s historical records, much of the family’s culture and practices have passed from knowledge. However, after centuries of searching, the current members have managed to scrape together a number of tomes that have begun to shed light on the family’s past.

Valin's Tenets

To live a life without discipline is to walk without ever knowing your true path - the members of this family know this all too well, and such they follow a strict code of honour and way of life that governs how the conduct themselves.

1. Always keep your sworn word - to go back on your word is to disgrace the memory of the family’s progenitor. Loyalty to your kin is everything to a Valin’dar, and one would not dare forget it.

2. Respect thy elder - with age comes wisdom, and that wisdom should be heeded whenever possible. This does not give the elderly authority over others for example, but they are to be revered and heard.

3. Protect those who cannot protect themselves - a true warrior will not allow harm to come to those who are too weak to defend themselves, whether this be a child or elderly folk. To allow such to take place in your presence is to paint a black mark upon your soul.

4. Venerate the ancient ones - all those in the family are expected to revere the ancestors, and at the very least respect the spirits. Strict spiritualism is not absolutely mandatory, though adherence to a religion or actions that would offend the spirits is strictly forbidden.

5. Defy evil in all its forms - senseless murder, dark arts, evil deeds, and other such actions are to be opposed by a Valin’dar at all costs, lest Valin’s teachings be forgotten.

6. Revere the traditions of old - remembering the history of Valin’dar and 'ker all together is very important to the family. To forget where you came from and ignore the ancient teachings is to walk blindly forwards with no path.

Aesthetics and Visual aspect

Many of the ashen folk dress very similarly, and those of the Valin’dar bloodline are no exception; though there are aspects to them that make them stand apart.

It is rare you will find a Valin’dar sporting something other than garb of deep dark purple or black, with varying degrees of ratio between the two colours, being the family’s banner colours. Many of the members of this bloodline choose the path of a warrior, and hence it is not uncommon to see them wearing armour; ranging from a simple brigandine and gambeson, to full plate steel. The women often opt to wear flowy dresses that highlight the natural beauty of the body, but not to the point of being un-tasteful; they range from blue to purple hues, with accents of deep and dark colours.

Jewelry is a very common sight amongst the family members. The men often opt for multiple golden rings along the length of their ears, and sometimes their eyebrows; where the women are seen with single piercings in their ear lobes, often carrying some sort of gemstone. Necklaces, bracelets, and other types of jewelry are also seen being worn by its members.

Most of the bloodline’s members are born with deep blue eyes, and silver white hair, with rare exceptions. Those of Valin’dar blood are usually very thin and tall, above average at that, and breaking 6 feet tall on most occasions, sometimes even taller. They struggle to put on much weight at all however, more often than not possessing a very lithe, but toned frame. It has also been noted that those born of Valin’dar have longer than normal ears.

Traditions

The family holds a few very highly revered traditions, some of which that are dated back to time immemorial. Those traditions are: Ah’iller Valinleh’sil’al, el’lent oem’ii pra’igne, and llir’onn fi’talonnii

Trials of Entry

As mentioned earlier, it is extremely uncommon for an outsider to be allowed into the Valin’dar family, and unheard of for it to be a non-dark elf; only one non-Mali’ker has been offered such an invite, and they turned it down for personal reasons, though no ill will persists. Anyone wishing to be a part of this clan of warriors and artists must complete these three trials, under the watchful guise of the Aheparron’ir.

Ah'narn Oem

As Valin did himself upon the beaches of Magaralin, the aspirant must take up a spear and slay a great beast. They may accept no help, use no other weapon than the spear, and wear nothing but robes. The specific beast is chosen by the Aheparron’ir, based on the strengths and abilities of the aspirant - it would not be fair to send a child to fight a crackadonk by themselves, and it would be no challenge for a seasoned warrior to face a lone wolf. Upon slaying the beast, the aspirant is to present the pelt to the Aheparron’ir, who will take it and keep it till the end of the trials.

Ah'narn Niut

After slaying the beast, the aspirant must compose an artistic piece detailing the battle. This can be a painting, a song, a dance, a poem, or whatever artistic medium the aspirant chooses. They then present it to the family, and if it is deemed that the aspirant is well enough connected to the arts, then they may proceed to the final trial.

Ah'narn Hael

With the help of a Lutamancer (ideally one who is a Valin’dar, though it is not necessary), the aspirant shall travel to Ancestral Realm, and present themselves before Valin himself in Goth’stroh, the Grey Haven. There, they ask for his blessing to walk the lands as a Valin’dar. Should their heart be of virtuous nature, Valin will sanction them as a member of the clan. Once they awake from the spirit walk, they are officially considered a member of Clan Valin’dar, and are presented with a cloak which shall have been fashioned from the pelt of the beast they slew. Afterwards, a grand feast and celebration is to be held under the moon, and the new member is to be welcomed with loving open arms into their new family.

Faith

While the faith of Spiritualism is not a total requirement, it is strongly encouraged that Valin’dars take up the worship of the immortal spirits. With that being said, members are forbidden from saying or doing things that would offend the spirits, such as worshiping dark entities or the practice of the voidal arts - at the very least, if they do not take part in the worship, they are to respect the faith and the spirits. Members are, however, required to learn of the ancestors that paved the way for the clan and the Mali’ker as a whole; there are few of particular note for the family, though any self respecting ‘ker ought to know and understand the teachings of more ancestors than those listed.

Valin, The Warrior Poet - The progenitor of the Valin’dar bloodline, and patron ancestor of the family. A mighty warrior and renowned painter of his time, he laid the groundworks for the clan’s very culture and ethos.

Uradas, The Vindicator - A ‘ker of unparalleled discipline and courage. Valin’dars look to his teachings for strength to do the right thing, even if it not the easy choice.

Delilah, The Mother - The epitome of home, hearth, and family. The family is reminded of the importance of family and being there for one another through her teachings.

On the topic of spiritual worship, Valin’dars are free to worship any spirit that they find personal connection with. However, all members of the family hold Kezt in particularly high esteem. As such, he is the chosen patron spirit of the Valin’dar family, representing the warrior ethics that those of this clan choose to walk by. Regular prayer and offerings to him is encouraged among the members, and take place at almost every gathering.

Notable Deeds of Valin’dars

During the ancient travels of the Maehr, Valin single handedly bested a voidal creature that crawled from the ocean, slaying the beast upon the shore of an island - he did so with naught but a spear in his hands. In turn, he saved some few dozen wounded Maehr from near certain death, and was awarded with a place at Velulaei’s side in her personal guard.

Sometime in the first millennia of the first age, Venefkar Valin’dar led forth a contingent of warriors against a sprawling swarm of undead invaders during the Azul Heresy. It was a hopeless battle, and only intended to give the citizens of the city more time to escape; but under the leadership of Venefkar, the soldiers sallied forth into the horde and fought with such ferocity that the enemy forces were destroyed, allowing countless citizens to flee to safety.

During the Inferi wars of Arcas, the enemy forces launched a siege of unfathomable magnitude against the great city of Aegrothond - outnumbered at least a hundred to one the valiant defenders were, yet Sevrel Valin’dar stood fast against the foe, felling enemy soldiers by the hundreds with his own hands; one of which being a commander of the Inferi horde, whose head he severed from it’s body and proceeded to lob it into the enemy line, causing them to route and turning the tide in the battle below the city.

Valin’dar Artifacts

Valinleh’sil, The Blade of Valin - This weapon is the sword held by the current Elder of Valin’dar, and it never leaves their side. It is crafted from Moon-steel, and bears the inscription of the Valin’dar's family motto along it’s blade.

The Spear of Valin - This spear is often said to no longer exist, though some of the older Valin’dars are steadfast in their belief that it is still out there. Unfortunately, no member of the bloodline alive is known to have ever possessed the item, but it is rumoured to be imbued with immense power - blessed by the very spirits and ancestors who watch over Valin’s kin.
