Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

    History:

The Hou-Zi are a race, created from Metzli in the attempts to create a loyal, servant race.  She did this by taking an already existing bestial race and granting it intelligence. Metzli would be introduced to thousands of creatures, many intelligent and strong, but fit Metzli’s needs. None until she came upon the primates. The primal from of Hou-zi, without magic or experimentation. These creatures intrigued her. They’ve proved themselves to her in terms of intelligence, speed and power. She then created the first Hou-Zi, by transforming alpha monkey into Hou-Shen the Monkey King. Metzli declared that with undying service to her would be rewarded with prosperity.

The Hou-Zi would prosper with their new found sentience, advancing on themselves and their tools, they began to create monuments speaking of their own greatness. Following a command from Metzli, Hou-Shen would wage battle in the name of conquest, often battling the Elves for land. After years of wars, with both defeats and success, the expansion ended with two major defeats and a peace accord being written.

However, the greater the city the quicker the fall, for once again War broke out bringing the beginning of their fall. The death of Hou-Shen would shatter the Hou-Zi, damaging both their morale, their numbers and their land. The Hou-Zi lost everything except for Asul. An unknown being, Poison, would begin his work. Once great temples began to crack at the foundations, history and tales lost. Pestilence would begin to spread like wildfire across Jing-Taiyun. The Hou-Zi would abandon Jing-Taiyun scattering themselves into the Asul forests. Jing-Taiyun would sink into the earth, leaving a memory of where a once great city would’ve been. The memory of Hou-Shen would also be lost, who’ve after countless years of strife and loss would simply leave.

With no leader to guide them, no land to hold them. The Hou-Zi civilization had collapsed entirely once more. Vainly, the Hou-Zi had hope holding to their memories that Hou-Shen, their immortal lord, would return to them once more. That he would rebuild the great city of Jing-Taiyun and take arms and lead them to a glorious battle with the Elves, one that they would either die, or finally win.

    But, Hou-Shen never returned.

    Races:

    Laobai-Zhu

The Laobai-Zi bear fur in shades of brown and came in all shapes and sizes. They are the most adaptable of the Hou-zi. The Laobai-Zu are said to be the line of Hou-Zi directly descended from the god-king's firstborn- Hou-Wang. Laobai-Zhu is the shortest lived of the Hou-Zi, reaching a lifespan of 80 to 100 years.

    Fei-Zhu

The Fei-Zi bear multicolored fur which can be blue, red, hues of yellow, or gold. Their faces are usually a contrast to their fur, a red-furred Fei-Zi would have a yellow face, for example. Fei-Zi is the smallest but most nimble of the Hou-Zi, being petite in body, and around 5’ to 6’ feet in height. Fei-Zhu enjoys slight longevity, living a life span of 150 to 250 years.

    Hei-Zhu

The Hei-Zi bear black fur. The Hei-Zhu are the burliest, strongest of the Hou-Zi subraces, growing between 6’5” and 7’ tall. Hei-Zhu are the longest lived of the Hou-Zi, experiencing a lifespan of 250 to 300 years.

    Religion:

While people would expect Metzli to be worshipped for their granting of sentience Metzli is actually feared for her association with their downfall. Hou-shen is the one revered as he rose into legend as the one who guided and shaped the Hou-Zi. They believe that his immortality would one day bring him back to their people. The Hou-Zi still believe in his legend and worship him through shrines and statues, being blissfully unaware that it was Metzli who granted them sentience.

Mu'Hou is a Hei-Zhu, given his height and build.

    Personal Story:

Mu’Hou is a mysterious, taciturn Hou’Zi who bears a mask. At some point while in Ves, Mu’Hou became entranced and resides there for the time being. There, he creates innumerable carvings for personal enlightenment. For reasons known only to himself of course.

Ironically, despite his experience, the mask he binds himself to only seems to blind him rather than help him survive. The eye holes of his mask is packed with poisons and tree resins by those who have dismissed Mu’Hou as a common ape. He normally wields his own greatbow packed with his own arrows that he carves during his spare time.
