  1. Plate isn't the issue so much as it is people misunderstanding how plate works. No matter what you try to do with it the perceived power of it will always determine that people emote differently than they should and there's hardly ever a mod willing / around to oversee long crp anyways. This is just a small part of a broader issue involving people refusing to lose no matter what anyways.

Allow people to 2 emote shoot bows in 16 block range and the rest doesn't matter.

Also even though Malta's comment has nothing to do with this post (bla bla dingo comment), he is overall correct. None of this stuff matters proportionately to a lot of the power-creep CAs and MAs generate. If anything I think Plate is actually one of the only fair options left for people that don't want to do magics given that one of the balancing factors applied to most of those things is the inability to use plate.

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Earth Evocation

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Earth Evocation is a one slot voidal magic that involves the conjuration of elements of earth through the use of a Voidal connection. As with the other evocations, the mage creates Voidal anchors within the material, summoning projections of earth or sand in a variety of applications. The spells of earth evocation are characterized by the use of direct force, or disruption in the case of sand, boasting a great offensive and defensive strength as well as general utility.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

There are three distinct subsections of Earth Evocation. The first is Sand Offensive, one of the first that the mage learns to use practically. It involves using conjured sand in order to blind or disorient the enemy in the form of a blast of sand or a larger sandstorm. The second is Earthen Offensive, which is where all of the offensive utility of Earth Evocation lies. This category involves conjuring rock in a variety of ways to inflict blunt force, from small pebbles to massive boulders. The final is Earthen Defensive, which is the sole defensive utility of Earth Evocation. This subsection involves conjuring barriers out of earth in order to obstruct movement, line of sight, and to block projectiles. The flexibility of this is limited compared to other defensive Voidal abilities, but as a trade-off earthen walls are the strongest among the evocations.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

[!] With the connection of mana continuing to persist around the voidal mage the slowly conjured forth a projectile within their hand. It amassed steadily from the mana as a simple stone rounded and roughly the size of a baseball.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

"Upon channeling your voidal connection you are capable of utilizing earth evocation immediately." The teacher instructed the student. "It is minimal, at most a few pebbles. Utilize the flare of mana that comes from a connection and feel as though you are throwing them normally. Focus upon solidifying the mana and they'll form as normal pebbles as though you'd simply held them all along. You understand?"

Student nods because they are competent and understand.

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

OOCly and IRPly make sure they understand everything necessarily. If it's a repeated behavior after attempting to ensure that they understand, inform ST as well as dropping them as a student.

  3. Nothing but the name. Lotc 10 years ago and Lotc now are incomparable. Hell Lotc 3 years ago and Lotc now are incomparable. Realistically there's very little consistency in most things because of ever changing staff and policies. It's pretty much as though it's only ever been a game in a beta phase really.

    Effect(s) of the Artifact:

    Displaced Shadow:

A unique spell that fully utilizes the magical nature of an arcane scion’s soul lag. Rather than being a passive effect, a scion can actively focus their mana on the alteration of the shadow to project it outside of their body with slightly more substance than normal, acting separately from the caster for a short time.

When empowering the soul, it can be displaced from its original position (where the caster is standing) by up to eight blocks [quiet chat range] in any given direction. After this displacement, the shadow will maintain the same relative position to the caster, no matter where they move. In this state, the caster can use their action to allow their soul-shadow to perform an attack at the cost of forgoing any sort of action of their own. In this form the soul-shadow is more tangible and can be struck by mundane weapons, transferring mental pain to the caster capable of disconnecting them if sufficient. Additionally, its actions are capable of striking with the full force of the scion’s armaments, however under no condition can this strength exceed that of mundane steel.

Aesthetically the mage can depict controlling the shadow in any way they like. This can be making the motions themself to a lesser extent, something more akin to a manipulating marionette, or even just holding still and making erratic eye movements. However the Scion chooses cannot have an impact on combat or be used as an additional action.

    Casting:

In order to cast the spell a scion must first channel their connection, displace the soul shadow, then may begin utilizing actions. The spell can be maintained for up to five emotes, or canceled early which requires one emote during which no other spell can be cast. In total this equates to [1 connect + 1 cast/place + at most 5 emotes of action].

    Red Lines of the Artifact:

    Redlines:

    • This spellforge can only be learned by Arcane Scions, due to the required presence of a soul shadow.
    • Casting Displaced Shadow requires 2 emotes, after which the ability may remain active for 5 emotes.
      • The shadow can be rescinded early.
    • When initially being cast the shadow may be ‘placed’ anywhere within 8 meters (blocks) of the scion.
      • This distance may not be altered after the shadow is placed, as every movement the Scion makes will be copied directly by the shadow.
    • While the Displaced Shadow cannot move, the caster may still move [4] blocks on a turn which the shadow attacks, therefore replacing the shadow’s movement since the shadow’s movement is relative to the caster. This means that the shadow can technically act like normal except in cases where the caster does not have unlimited freedom of movement.
    • The strength of the shadow is the same as the caster, meaning regular descendant strength.
    • The Armaments (weapons, armor, shield etc.) of the scion are copied onto the shadow, as are their durability/strength. This strength cannot exceed that of Mundane Steel.
      • Special effects of the material are not copied. A scion wielding azhl could not inflict anemia through their shadow, for example.
    • The damages that might be inflicted upon the shadow are felt by the scion, but are merely mental damage and not physical damage.
    • The shadow is weak to malflame/dragonsflame as it normally would be whilst displaced.
      • The scion’s body is also vulnerable to these effects, but only in the way that a normal descendant’s body would be.
    • If the shadow is struck by Thanhium, Null Arcana, or Kani’s Abjuring strike, then it is repelled back to the scion, who is then forcibly disconnected for 3 emotes.
      • Auric oil will dispel the shadow but does not disconnect the mage.
    • Displaced Shadow is a T3 spell.
    • No other spells may be cast whilst Displaced Shadow is active, though ordinary actions can be taken if the caster forgoes their shadow’s action.

Explanation of the effect(s) (i.e. how it does what it does - slight bending of magic lore is allowed):

This spell utilizes the unique feature of an Arcane scion's imperfect soul and the spell forging mechanic available to T5 voidal mages. By actively concentrating one’s mana to empower the nature of soul lag, whilst also maintaining something of a concentrated state akin to Arcanic Meditation, a scion can gain an intense connection with their shadow allowing for greater mimicry.

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Air Evocation

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Air evocation is the art of conjuring and manipulating air directly from the Void, requiring a stable connection and a extensive study of the nature of 'air' as an influenced element. While generally less direct and physically impactful than the other evocations, It emphasizes finesse and elegance, utilizing a versatile range of applications from gentle breezes to devastating whirlwinds. Air is primarily capable of influencing the environment and providing strategic advantages in various situations with both offensive and defensive capabilities derived from air's capability of pushing objects.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

Most of Air's abilities are either direct usage of wind or blowing of air to influence a target. This, of course, happens with varying strengths depending on the concentration or strength of a given usage of air. The exception to this kind of aesthetic is the utilizing of sound in sound blast, which concentrates summoned sound to burst out into a loud noise. Air evocation also has the relatively unique aspect of having spells that are capable of being cast at multiple levels. This utilizes mana relative to how high of a tier the spell is being cast at, but additionally increases its power.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

The Mage connected to the void, their aura beginning to swirl around them in (choice) colors of mana.

As the projectile soared towards the caster, he/she/they reached outward summoning a blast of air to attempt to deflect it to the side. Assuming it was travelling at the speed of an arrow, it could be cast away without harm, yet if it soared faster the impact would only be diminished. [Air Evo Redirect]

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

"In order to channel air, my student, you must begin harness your connection. Utilize it to charge a summoning as air, make it feel as though you are creating a breeze. Then, hold that breeze as though you want it to gather in strength, compounding like adding additional water to a river." he watched to make sure the student was paying attention. "Then release it into a gust of wind, blowing wherever you seek to aim it." [Air Evo Gust]

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

Make sure they understand what they did wrong and can correct it in the future. Check with them IRP if necessary, and of course let ST know if they do it excessively and need dropping.

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Animii / Automaton crafting

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Animii and Automaton crafting involves the creation of mechanical prosthetics and clockwork creatures, typically made of metal and powered by an individual's own blood mixed with alchemical lifeblood. The complexity of the prosthetics can range from simple limbs to complex voice boxes and lungs. The crafting process requires a combination of mechanical and alchemical knowledge, including the use of mage gold and reagents to identify the soul. In some cases, craftsmen may choose to become animii themselves, by transferring their soul into a clockwork body.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

There are five different tiers of Animii, each with its own characteristics and limitations. The first tier includes prosthetic devices and small non-sentient inventions. The second tier includes small, sentient creatures. The third tier includes larger creatures that can only be used as pets. The fourth tier includes larger non-combatant non-player characters and mounts. The fifth and final tier is reserved for player-controlled automatons, either with or without a soul. It is important to note that creations that do not fit within these five groupings, or those that bend or alter the rules, are not allowed without appropriate permission.

Tier 5 Automatons are specifically a playable CA that are powered by the Gear Heart and infused with an alchemic lifeblood. The Gear Heart serves as the crucial component that gives life to the automaton, much like the heart of a living being. The beating of the cogs and the transfer of energy from the redstone and precious gem are what sustain the automaton, much like the flow of blood in a living organism. While incredibly close to descendants in size and shape, they are different in their ability to overclock, or further exert their mechanisms for brief bursts of strength or agility.

Similar to entirely mechanical Automatons are machine spirits, in which the soul of a descendant is moved and placed within a mechanical body. The process of becoming an Automaton involves a process akin to golemancy and kloning techniques. The first step is to craft the heart of the Automaton, typically made out of mage gold or standard gold. This heart is then infused with a mixture of aetheric Lifeblood solution, blood, and reagents that serve as an identifier for the soul. When the person dies, their soul will then return to the plane in the form of an Automaton. However, becoming an Automaton is not without its drawbacks. The first few years can be a surreal experience, as the person must get used to their new body and its limitations. Additionally, if the Automaton were to die, it would mark the end of the being, unless it had created backup bodies for itself. To keep itself alive, the Automaton must continually create more and more of itself, sometimes maintaining large facilities filled with these constructs.

Individual prosthetic limbs can also be created through Animii crafting. While they may be more durable than fleshy limbs, they lack sensitivity of touch and can only endure a limited number of blunt strikes before they become nonfunctional. Voice boxes and lungs also have significant drawbacks, causing the individual's voice to sound like that of an automaton, and reducing their stamina by half, respectively.

Other minor creations include mechanical tools or pets that are entirely based around utility and non-combative.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

The Alchemist constructed the gear heart steadily, combining a series of redstone infused springs, gears and cogs to create a functioning self reliant system that could output the necessary energy to give life to an automaton and pump life blood. Of course, none of this was possible without the addition of a diamond into the heart's center and the careful positioning for several tubes to carry the fluid.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

The Alchemist took out a bottle of water and mixed in crushed charcoal to create a dark foggy mixture. “In order to create Lifeblood, you must start with this base of charcoal and water then add  Connection x3 Life x3 Growth x2 Strength x1 Balance x2 Endurance x3 Grace x2 Order x3. This mixture will create the fluid that all automatons require to function. We will do this by attaching it to all of the various modules we wish for our automaton to have, as well as the gear heart. The recipe makes about enough for one human sized automaton.” he explained as he created the mixture himself, and held it up to the student "You understand, yes?"

    The student nodded in understanding.

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

Make sure they both irply and oocly understand the limits of what they are able to do, and what the error they made is. Further communication through messages or discord can help with this. If a student excessively powergames in an area several times, despite talking to me, I likely would drop them and inform ST.
