  Greetings dear citizen, we hope this letter finds you and yours well. We, the council of Vortice, want to extend a hand to you and invite you to our town meeting. We wish to hear about your ideas on what can be done to improve the city and help the realm grow ever more.

  The meeting is going to be held in the former tavern at the top of the Jusmia Exchange. If you don’t know where that is, just take the lift all the way up from the square, and you’ll be right in front of it. Vivian catches wind of this, and sighs to herself. "I can't go," she cries to herself. "I can't risk someone trying to kill me with aurum, or being barred from entering the city with aurum lines on the ground." After a few minutes of moping, she picks herself back up and wipes her ghostly tears away. "I'm just... glad Apollyon is happy," she murmured, returning to cleaning up her tavern.

Far too little people have actually had the chance to see the shops of Vortice, and the Council wishes to change that. With this newsletter, we hope to share with you our shops and why they are truly the backbone of our Realm's strong trade roots. With so, we have provided paintings of each shop's interior, so that you may see the glory in image form before you come for your next visit!

We will first join together after we enter the gates...

Welcome to the square! Most of our city is carved within the Karsts of the east, which means our square is one of the largest open areas within the city, consisting of two stories. That's two whole large, open spaces with a ton of open shops.

If you get lost, have no fear- we've a large scale map of the pillars. You are here!

And if you decide you'd like to buy anything, then you can find the bank directly in front of the lift!

For the first shop we'll be visiting, we will be stopping by our resident coffee shop, Talon's Roast Café, located directly in front of the main gate as you go up the stairs!

A cozy spot run by our resident, Wes Vertesk! Vertesk truly loves coffee and caffeine as a whole, and has an entire space dedicated to showing it off. When he's in the city, he typically has about five to six people sitting and chatting in the café as they enjoy one of his famous Avery blend coffees, or even his Cordius blend!

Up next, we will be visiting Nueve Co. Trading Company, right in front of the bank!

From paper, to horse whistles, to pieces of jewelry, Nueve Co. has it all!

We'll be heading next to Sturmweber Company Limited's very own Tobacco Shoppe & Lounge, owned and ran by our dual-resident Varik Sturmweber, and his brother, Roland von Sturmweber!

Up next, we'll be visiting Maelstorm Jewelry and Living Dolls! Owned by our local jeweler and Minister of Internal Affairs, Aerith Maelstorm, whom, despite her many jobs, takes her time crafting and perfecting each piece of jewelry she makes. 

Whatever piece you may be looking for, she likely has it. And if she doesn't, she does take custom commissions for any piece you want made, whether it be something as simple as a ring, or something ornate like a crown or tiara!

And next on our list of shops, we've got the Royal Haeseni Shop! Run by our dear friends in Haense, it typically is stocked to the brim with necessary materials.

And further on we go, to our locally owned tattoo parlor, Hummingbird Tattoos and Flowers.

Owned by a local who would like to omit their name, it is a very lucrative business, with the sale of custom flower bouquets being distributed throughout Aevos.

And finally, we head to our last shop that's being shown- we've saved the absolute best for last! Glorier's Atelier!

A friendly bard and artist, Glorier strives to make the nicest, most visually appealing art he can, as well as the most audibly appealing music! His work is, truly, a work of art! (Ba dum TSS!)

TBF, I think it’s mostly new(ER) players who don’t try at CRP. Not the pink tags, but the people who have been here like a week or two and think they shouldn’t have to CRP because no one taught them how to.

It’s kind of like when you’re in school or at work, and you have a manager or teacher who doesn’t tell you the instructions for the project or duty you’re meant to complete, and expects you to know how to do it- then you’re meant to present your task in front of others, and you go, “I literally had no ******* clue what to do.”

The thing everyone thinks about smaller realms/nations is that they're "dead" just because they don't see anyone for the 10-30 minutes they're around. But these realms/nations have peak hours, where there are numerous people spread out through the cities. Just because you don't see anyone in the square or entrance of the city does not make it a "dead" realm/nation- it means you're not looking in the right places.

From my own position, I see an average of 10-12 people in Vortice most days of the week, usually at peak hours between 2pm to 11pm EST. And that's because most of our playerbase is of working age or college age, and either work or have class until specific times. But so many people operate on the belief that Vortice is dead, because 1) the gates are closed due to consistent banditing, and 2) people are spread through the entire, very large city. I do activity checks in the city frequently, too, about once every month and a half, without notifying players, meaning that they have to be active in the city to see that they've received one- which typically, with the exception of two people occasionally, everyone passes.


I find most of these arguments that smaller realms/nations are "dead" and "useless" to be in bad faith and based in bias of larger scale realms/nations that often have numerous new players poached into them.

THE

VORTICIAN TRADE FAIRE

Throughout Vortice’s history, trade has always been at the nation’s core- a staple of its longevity. Hosting a city against a port has a marvelous crew of peddlers, tradesmen, adventures, and so on. No matter where they hail, all are welcome to sell their goods within Vortice and we look forward to you joining this day of merriment to celebrate the commerce for our second trade faire. On top of our typical events for the trade faire, we are also hosting a costume contest for Knox-o-ween! So get your spooky on, and dress up for the occasion!

Talon’s Roost Iced Tea

An unusual blend of vodka, gin, tequila, rum and orange liqueur with sweet iced tea, vanilla extract and sweet cream is a perfect mixture of flavors on a hot evening.

Watermelon Gin Punch

Wonderfully sweet and overflowing with watermelon flavor, this cocktail brandishes a fruity, sweet gin with flowery notes as its main point of prospect. Served in a chilled glass over ice, with a mint sprig tossed in for garnishment, add a bit of lemon juice and you’ll find every sip to be bright and fresh.

Appletini

A small martini glass with shaken and chilled, brightly green colored green apple flavored liqueur and vodka. This fruity martini is both boozy and refreshing, giving you a pep in your step for the night.

The Mudslide

Sweet, creamy and chocolatey, this beverage is perfect for anyone with a craving for sweets. This beverage consists of high quality vodka, coffee liqueur, sweet cream, and chocolate drizzle over the rim of the glass.

Maelstorm’s Madness

The madness of a Maelstorm is one that few people know, but those crazy redheads do know how to have a good time. This tall, chilled glass is filled with gin, tequila, rum, vodka and lemon juice mixed into a fruit punch over ice!

Winter Wolf

A dark brown ale served in a tall, curving glass. The ale is heavy and has an almost syrupy consistency. The taste is incredibly sweet with a bitter aftertaste. There is a fruity, almost floral overtone to the taste. The taste and smell of wintergreen resonate through your sinuses. There is no head to this ale, just a fuzzy feeling that your senses seem to disappear into. This drink is full-bodied and will warm you from the inside. It is not a subtle drink, but rather one to consume in large quantities.

Acid Bath

Swirling around with a top layer of small ice blocks, this light green liquor sheens with an almost jade-like coloring fading into a dodger blue hue. This drink would have a warning attached to it, "Be wary of the damage this liquor would bring." Drinks included in this beverage: vodka, gin, silver-blue agave distilled beverage, white rum, a blue liqueur made from orange peels and spices with natural food coloring, lemon juice, and a dash of CONCENTRATED white tea. The barkeep serves the beverage cold with a layer of small ice cubes, pours the liquid into a tall glass with a slice of lemon for garnish, and stirs the cocktail with a swish. With a swig, you would observe the brilliant color of the mix, taste the aggressive citrus sweet zest concealing the amount of liquor, hear your rapid heartbeat, and feel the burn of the vodka as it leaks down your throat. The liquor's sting is as refreshing as a breeze on a blazing summer day.

Lady of the Lake

A mostly clear liquid with a slight teal, ocean blue color swirls around three blocks of ice. A pristine, mixed drink combines quality citrusy gin, light semi sweet tonic water soaked in medicinal bark, large ice cubes, fresh lemon peel, and butterfly blue pea flower powder. The mixture between the gin and tonic should be around 50:50 and add to have a refreshing balance between the citrus-juniper flavor and the bittersweet essence of the cinchona sprig. The peel would be stirred into the drink, twirling in a whirl and sinking towards oblivion.

The Black Dahlia

The Black Dahlia flower has a beautiful deep, dark purple-maroon hue. This drink attempts to capture the essence of such a unique plant. The preparation itself demonstrates the strive for perfection this idyllic plant represents. The ingredients for the cocktail are fresh blackberries, sugar cubes, lemon juice, gin, vodka, and a bisected cube of ice. The drink describes the nature of a young bloom, a naïve, syrupy sweetness flowering in your mouth. As dreams were cut short, the beverage's flavor would abruptly transform from saccharine to the bitter, sour realization of what reality has to offer. The final sip portrayed the burning gasp of what was a last, dying breath, desperately clutching on life.

Goodnight Kiss

A deep scarlet drink transforms into a velvet-rich hue. This cocktail combines an ounce of scotch, a pinch of smoked bitter botanicals, a hint of smoky apricot flavor, a dash of a sweet almond-flavored creamy blend of liquor, and a syrupy bittersweet-flavored liqueur with a light citrus tang. Pouring the cocktail into a closed mason jar, the bartender places the jug into a sealable white oak box with a smoker underneath. This process creates a slight wisp of hickory smoke on top of the drink and is served with one large cube or chunk of ice. The taste starts sanguine sweet like the lips of a first love that then dissolves into the bitter, flaming remnants of your ex's charcoal body on the bed of an oak forest. 

Tail of the Dead

This gin has a clean, clear, and white appearance. The drink is served with a wedge of lime and a two-inch-thick cube of ice. The Tail of the Devil has a complex flavor that starts with a sweet taste of apples. The taste then gives way to a strong, bitter taste of pine and citrus zest. There is a minimal aftertaste, and the drink is generally well-received by most who partake in this beverage. The drink is served in a short and wide glass bottle with a label that has a picture of a tail with flames coming out of it. Circa Year 132 of the Second Age.

The Fearless Frog

A pale golden whiskey, distilled from a mixture of wheat and barley. The whiskey is served with a cube of ice that has been hand-carved to resemble a frog. This drink has a heavy, mind-altering taste. The initial taste explodes onto the tongue and quickly gives way to a slow burn that spreads through the chest. The alcohol content is high enough that those not used to it will experience slight vertigo and blurred vision. The Fearless Frog is made by distilling alcohol in an ancient copper still, hand-carved by the dwarven master, Count Durlak. This drink is popular with those willing to take a risk and try something new.

Untamed Cleopatra

An orangey drink with a transparent appearance. This cocktail is a mixture of gin, a large cube of ice, a hint of fresh lemon juice, and a dash of fresh mint extract. When poured into a glass, the drink turns opaque and milkshake-like in consistency. This cocktail is topped with an orange slice and is reminiscent of this fictional queen. The taste starts sweet, then gives way to a refreshing aftertaste. This aftertaste is slightly bitter, but not enough to ruin the drink. This cocktail is good for an evening filled with laughter and wild abandon.

The Burning Mountain Majesty

A bright orange drink with a clear, glossy appearance. This cocktail is made from distilled whiskey, a hint of fresh lemon juice, and a dash of honey with a large block of ice. When poured into a glass, the drink turns opaque and milkshake-like consistency. The taste starts sweet, then gives way to a bitter aftertaste. The beverage comes served in a shot glass that resembles a rounded, hollowed-out rock. This cocktail is good for an evening spent contemplating life, liberty, and happiness.

Hot Chocolate (Spiked)

A sweet, dark chocolate liqueur with a hint of espresso that is mixed with warm milk and a dash of cinnamon orange syrup to create a steaming cup of hot chocolate. Served in a mahogany mug, the drink is topped off with fluffy, white marshmallows that sit just at the surface. The marshmallows slowly diffuse through the beverage, keeping the hot chocolate from getting too cold as it sits on the table. Surprisingly filling for a drink with little to no alcohol content, the hot chocolate is the perfect drink for curling up next to a fireplace on a cold winter night with a good book and someone you love.

Sapphire Breeze

A captivating and sophisticated beverage that brings together the allure of premium gin and the refreshing essence of blueberries. Sip and savor the alluring blue hues as you embark on a delightful journey of taste and aroma. Infused with the essence of hand picked blueberries and a carefully selected artisanal gin, distilled with a delicate blend of botanicals in the sky city of Talon's Roost, the drink of gems exudes a burst of fruity sweetness with a subtle hint of tartness.

Crimson Whiskey Fusion

If you’re interested in having a living doll made for cheap, feel free to reach out to Aerith Maelstorm with specifications. Materials may be requested depending on the type of doll you order, and prices can be as low as fifty mina, and as high as three hundred, depending on the complexity of the doll. Dolls of any kind are welcome, and will be treated with deepest respects.

THE

VORTICIAN TRADE FAIRE

Throughout Vortice’s history, trade has always been at the nation’s core- a staple into its longevity. Hosting a city against a port has always encouraged a colorful cast of traders and travelers.  No matter nation or creed, Vortice welcomes those from all walks of life to enjoy a day of celebration and commerce for our first of many trade faires in the new world.

THE FREE MARKETPLACE

With the faire being open to all, the Vortician Council encourages everyone to do what the State is best known for: trading and selling. Temporary stalls will be set up throughout the city square for use, and a competition between traders will be held. Whomever sells the most items in a day will win a prize, showing their true prowess as a merchant.

A small fee will be charged to those who wish to display their wares, dependant on the location of said stall, though we have no doubt you’ll at least double. No more than a simple 10 mina fee for merchants who are interested in setting up shop during the fair. 

TAVERN NIGHT

Come fairtime, Vortice’s Whirling Chalice tavern finds itself full of life with the regulars and  travelers searching for food and drink amongst the festivities. At all times, there will be open access to the Whirling Chalice - drink, food, and most importantly, conversation.

Perhaps if you’re persuasive enough, you might convince the pub tender to put it on the house.

FESTIVITIES AND REFRESHMENTS

In addition to the drinks of the tavern, refreshments should be in abundance as each trader will bring their own wares, often encouraging them to bring forth food of their cultures, in order to prepare fresh for you.

To top off the myriad of offerings, the Vortician Council will be providing a few festivities to entertain yourselves with, within the game room below the square. Chess, Tic Tac Toe, 4-in-a-row, darts, and Haenseti chess will all be available for you to entertain yourself with.
