Hardred Lance was raised in the home of a nobleman within the walls of the Imperial City of Carolustadt.
Born of FarFolk blood, his family has lived in Carolustadt for generations, being one of the first family to live within the walls of Carolustadt. Building the city up from the forest they once hunted from and many of them would travel up the mountain of Dragon Spine to gather the materials to build the walls.
During his youth, his family were all famers who had lived on the nobleman’s land for generations and serving their family the crops and animals they have collected. Hardred himself was meant to become a famer like his father. But one night, Hardred’s father noticed an injured fox running through the forest. Thinking he could kill it himself and serve it as dinner tonight, he shot at it with an arrow, hitting and killing it. Unfortunately for him though, this very same fox was the prey of the nobleman’s eldest daughter, who was out hunting. Seeing him kill her fox and picking it up, she accused him of stealing and ordered her men to kill him and every one of his bloodline. All but Hardred who she planned to give to her youngest brother.
This was how a family of famers, people who were insignificant in the eyes of many, were killed off and had their last member become a servant at the age of three. All because of a fox.
Years passed by as Hardred lived the life of a servant to a spoiled brat whose sister killed his entire family when he was three. He lived a hard life, punished whenever he had done something the family did not like.
Whether it be when he brought something too slow, or when the food he brought that he did not cook was burnt, or just when the boy he was serving was doing something wrong, he was still punished.
But that all changed when a simple merchant came into town while Hardred was out shopping.
The two spoke, and the strange merchant told him about how a family could become a noble one. He said that to become a noble, you needed two things. One being the influence to command others, and the second thing he needed was money.
Hardred has lived his life without any of those things. He was a servant and could never influence anyone, nor did he have any money. Everything he had, belongs to the family he serves. But the merchant told him that his origins did not matter. And that most noble family's have either started out as mere soldiers who had done something incredible or, were merchants. But only the merchants who were able to manipulate others into bringing them straight to the top of society. And that Hardred himself could become one of them.
They stopped talking shortly after that, and Hardred returned. But that simple merchant had inspired him. After a few years still serving the ones who had killed his family, Hardred did his best to endure the suffering they continued to bring him, all while learning everything he can from them. Mainly, he learned how to read and write. After this, he stole their best clothes and some money and a few other things worth some value, he ran away hoping to become a successful merchant.
Leaving everything behind, he started his new life by first changing his name away from that of a servant, and into the name, Delta.
Nobody knows why he changed it into that, did it reminded him of something, maybe it was a symbol, or maybe it was because he just thought it sounded cool and unique. But now, at the age of nineteen, Delta travels to a new land to become a merchant.
