Chance Beta, from the start of his birth he was considered weak. Being born with apraxia was not helpful in the slightest. He could not speak, He could make strangled noises and soft groans, which were painful to do, but he was unable to properly speak. His father wanted a strong and powerful son, someone worthy of becoming a knight, a warrior. But he was gravely disappointed with what he was given. His father had fought in the civil between the elven races, back when the High Council of Malinor was defeated.
He was battled sacred and grew to be angry, and heavy handed. So when Chance was past the age of which he should be speaking, and was not talking, a deepest pit of anger and disappointment settled in his fathers gut. Chance was born and raised in the Kingdom of Norland. There he did his best to fit in with all the other children, He was creative in the ways that he can communicate with his peers, and turned his muteness into a game of charades a majority of the time.
Chance also loved to learn and read. The moment he learned how to read, Chance took every opportunity he had to find a book or paper and read it in his head. He grew a fascination with fictional stories and of history. He enjoyed reading about deities and stories referencing them, the story of Malin and how he came to be, the history of Orcs and dwarves. And This grew into a want, a want to become an author, to make his own stories, to create his own written world.
His Father however, Resented this development. His son may be mute and weak but he was in no way allowing him to run off and become even weaker. And So, He Put chance to work, Made him do simple labor like unloading boats or bringing heavy bags of flour and corn to restaurants. He was paid very little for and had a majority of his free time Taken away from him. However, Chance soon learnt of how money worked, how certain individuals acted depending on the price of an object and how valuable it was. He learned of trade and selling and met all sorts of new faces. He became friendly with the people he worked for, they told him their own life stories, taught him tricks and certain skills he can use on his own, like how to bake bread or collect some herbs if he was ever in the wild.
And over the years of this work, His father had once more forced him to train, to hold a sword and fight, and each tie he trained he failed, he could not defeat his father, He made mistakes over and over and couldn't get a proper handle with fighting, and over he past 20 years His father was finished. He no longer wanted to associate with Chance to ever be considered he man who made a failure. He left the family, and never returned. He was the main source of money for Chance and his mother , and with him now gone, they near broke. His Mother, a kind and sweet woman, began working many jobs to try and rack up enough money to pay for basic needs. And Chance knew that his mothers suffering was his own fault. And out of disparity, he became a con-man.
He tricked the gullible to believe that his products, whatever they may have been, were sure to make anyone's life better, or that they were of high quality despite them usually being dull or near breaking.
He'd come up with random prices and tricked others into thinking that they had a discount put in place and made them cheaper. This was difficult to get a hang of at first , 36 years old and all he had as a pen and a big white board naming his supposed products and the cost. He could not speak but he could dance around and act out he usages of the items he owned, and this attracted people.
He was caught a couple times, and spent a couple of weeks to a few months in a cell. But he'd make the time enjoyable, play an instrument that an officer would given him, or a game of cards. Those around him enjoyed the experienced Ironically, and when he'd be released it be with well wishes, and hopes that he'd return and not to be put in a cell. And because of his "bad boy" reputation, he developed a natural ego that only grew and grew. And over the course of the next few years, Chance would teach himself common sign language, and save up enough money to buy himself a fancy coat, boots and clothes.
When he reached the age of 54, chance packed his few belongings and gave his mother a farewell, he was going to leave and wanted to find a better life for he both of them, to become rich and well known, to follow his old dreams of becoming an author, to do something more with his long life. He promised he'd do all that there was to make everything better.
