Recently, with a renewed sense of transparency and communication with the community, we would like to announce the first of many Community meets, as well as inviting you to participate, have your voice heard, and your questions answered. Hɪꜱᴛᴏʀɪᴄᴀʟ Sɪɢɴɪꜰɪᴄᴀɴᴄᴇ “ᴀꜱ ᴛʜᴇ ꜱᴏᴜʟꜱᴛʀᴇᴀᴍ ɪꜱ ᴇᴛᴇʀɴᴀʟ, ꜱᴏ ᴀʀᴇ ᴡᴇ.” The Monks of Cloud Temple have a long and storied history in all of recorded time, though the common thread is that of their neutrality, healing of lost souls, and their kindness. Though there have been many theories as to the reason for their existence, it has remained hidden from view, lost knowledge that the Monks themselves are unable to reveal to anyone outside their Order. From small snippets, from years of mastering their arts, Temple Monks now possess the capabilities to fetch souls from the buffering spaces between the Material Realms and the Soulstream with a high success rate. This process involves the interception of souls prior to entering the depths of the afterlife. This is only possible from where Cloud Temples are placed, as the monks know where the barrier between these worlds is thinnest. Monks hone the ability to calm those who have untoward intentions, unleashing a passive wave of peace over their minds. This allows the monks to travel the realm peacefully, helping and assisting all those in need. This naturally imbued skill tames the evil that obstructs the Monks and allows them to conduct their business as they wish within reason. Cloud Temples are uniquely designed to meet their needs, where mortal beings cannot engage in combat or harm one another, as such is physically impossible. It is a place where those deemed lost can find guidance once more from those who call it home. Wʜᴀᴛ Aʀᴇ Mᴏɴᴋꜱ? “ᴄᴏᴍᴘᴀꜱꜱɪᴏɴ, ɢᴜɪᴅᴀɴᴄᴇ, ʜᴀʀᴍᴏɴʏ; ᴀꜱ ᴛʜᴇꜱᴇ ᴛᴇᴀᴄʜɪɴɢꜱ ᴀʀᴇ, ꜱᴏ ᴡᴇ ᴅᴏ.” Monks themselves are enigmatic, timeless figures who, although mortal, have been born with the ability of reincarnation. Although the practices remain unknown to those not born with Monk capabilities, it is believed that monks are capable of sealing off the routes towards the various afterlives accessible to their descendants, be it Ebrietaes or the Seven Skies. The monks themselves are capable of doing this to themselves to a greater degree- reincarnating themselves repetitively, which explains their timeless and youthful appearance, or seemingly long-aged presence, as they continuously experience a mortal lifetime. This power, it appears, has made all monks non-violent and outwardly benevolent figures who, although secretive, typically seek to aid the lost souls of the realm, be it the recently-deceased whose stories are incomplete, or the living mortals who have only stepped out and into the world proper. Monks of all positions in their internal hierarchy are capable of leaving the Cloud Temple, though notably, their powers are altered outside of the grounds. Greater feats of resurrection, for instance, are only possible within the Cloud Temple, and instead, monks outside the Cloud Temple perform the roles of guides and wayfarers, aiding the lost descendants who wander the open realm. While Monks of all standings can leave the Temple, their allegiance is forever tied to the Temple itself. Due to their nature, they are entirely incapable of violence or aggression as they are not immune to their own practice. Monks tend to enjoy playing games to solve problems between themselves and others. They consider themselves disconnected from the outside world in general and struggle to conceive of issues affecting others, such as war, hatred, and bias; this is often interpreted by others as child-like innocence, although they would strongly proclaim otherwise and blame it on their ‘natural wisdom’. Yet when it comes to matters of death and revival, they become most serious, refusing to divulge their methods. The best things are often created in groups of three, as the Monks say, though the reason for this is still a mystery. Perhaps the world finds its most-balanced state when it stands on three legs, similar to a well-told story: The first leg represents the foundation of the story, the second conveys the lesson, and the third ensures that the story is passed down through generations. The Arch Monk offers profound insight to both those they care for and to wandering/lost souls that drift back from the space between life and true death into the mortal plane. They offer guidance and teachings, giving everyone a fair chance, especially those who have lost their way. Their goal is to help individuals rediscover their unique paths and create their own lasting narratives upon this plane. The Elder Monk plays a crucial role in deepening the understanding taught by the Arch Monk, transforming their words into tangible guidance. With a nurturing presence, the Elder ensures that the insights gained are not only comprehended but also applied in the lives of those once lost. Meanwhile, the Monks serve as gracious guides, echoing the teachings of the Elder and Arch Monks. They patiently assist each individual in navigating their journey, ensuring that every soul finds a welcoming space to either embark on a new story or to continue a tale that remains unfinished. Wʜᴀᴛ Dᴏ Mᴏɴᴋꜱ Dᴏ? “ᴀ ꜱᴏᴜʟ ʜᴇʟᴘᴇᴅ ɪꜱ ᴀ ꜱᴏᴜʟ ꜱᴀᴠᴇᴅ; ᴛʜᴇʀᴇꜰᴏʀᴇ, ꜱᴜᴄʜ ɪꜱ ᴏᴜʀ ᴘᴜʀᴘᴏꜱᴇ.” The primary duty of all Monks is to heal those in need, but they are unable to replace what was lost from their forms before death, and they can siphon souls from the spaces before the Soulstream who are not ready to face their respective afterlives, but this does not apply to broken souls. Naturally, the techniques behind this are kept secret, even though it’s entirely impossible to be done by non-Monks, and thus the details of such are unavailable. Monks are also duty-bound to help out new and wandering souls who are still coming to terms with their existence, and can offer them guidance in many mortal matters of importance. This can include almost anything from a simple chat, a guiding hand to where they belong, or teaching them basic self-defence. More mundanely, Monks spend their downtime playing games, discussing philosophical topics, and engaging in personal hobbies. While playing games and discussing philosophy are almost universal enjoyments among all Monks, hobbies are seen as minor quirks due to their often exclusive choices. It’s believed among the Monkfolk that these are the echoes of each person brought back, kept within them, though the truth of this may just be a placebo. The more fashion-conscious Monk is capable of dyeing their own robes, though this is usually only done to reflect the aesthetic choices of the current Arch Monk. Monks can be any race with a superior soul, and may hold their own personalities varying from benevolent or true neutral. In regard to accents, they may adopt various ones from passerby descendants, which often, at times, leads to a mix of all tongues they know mixed into one, though those who are not in closer association may possess a neutral monotone voice.
