Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
"Oh, I just, uh…" you stutter, tensing up. You eye the crone, then back outside the tent. For a moment, the air thickens with anticipation, until… Cassius settled onto the cushion, nerves dancing in his stomach as he felt the weight of the hag’s piercing gaze. With a determined tilt of his chin, he began to share his story, his voice steadying as he spoke of his humble beginnings in the impoverished lands of Lechia. “I comes from a simple life,” he explained, the longing for adventure clear in his eyes, “but every day I dreams of glory and honor.” Growing up in Lechia, a country known for its struggles and resources mainly in agriculture, Cassius often herd of as the wealthier realms of the Empire of Man flourished and thrived. The wide cobblestone streets he had seen in stories painted a stark contrast to the muddy paths of his village, where hope seemed as scarce as food during the harsh winters. “I always yearned for more opportunity,” he continued, feeling the weight of his aspirations, “to uplift my family and bring honor to his name.” He spoke fiercely about his ambition, “I want to join the Empire of Man, to wield a sword for the king and defend those who can’t protect themselves.” The tales of noble knights and valiant heroes had sparked a fire in his heart, a desire to rise above his humble origins and make a difference. As he leaned forward, Cassius felt the swell of courage rising within him, ready to reveal his aspirations to the enigmatic woman. He grasped the edge of the cushion tightly, wanting to anchor himself to his convictions. In that moment, he hoped the hag might offer the wisdom or path he so desperately sought to realize his dreams of knighthood, a beacon to guide him through the shadows of doubt that often loomed over his journey.
