  1. Aye, which is why Dunwood will never be the capital of the 'alflings, but rather remain as a village. The settlement Ah 'ave in mind would be larger and open to settlement by any 'alfling who wishes tah settle thar as well as other races. 'owever, Dunwood and Thistledown make up the current 'eartland of 'alfling culture, being the only two 'alfling settlements in the world and near each other.

  2. Eventually, as our race develops further, we'll need an open racial capital fer 'alflings of all types tah settle in. After all, we 'alflings 'ave the most developed culture and community of all the subraces in Aegis, and it is becomin' more advanced everyday. As Thistledown and Dunwood 'ave been mentioned as bein' close, per'aps they will become the center of a 'alfling autonomous region within the Kingdom of Oren. Thar are definitely benefits tah remainin' a vassal of the 'uman kingdom, most notably defense.

  3. OOC; We have a ton of houses, residents, and shops (thanks to VIP Vampero). Also we are moving onto the island next to us to build!

    Things are lookin' good :D

    OOC: I would think that halflings aren't too fond of water and islands would have only limited room for farms and hill homes.

  4. OOC: Rusty told me I am speaking a (too) formular english.

    If a Half-ling could write a 'quick guide' about the language I would be very happy =)

    Looks like the language is a mix of Dwarvish and English?

    Quick Guide to Soundin' Like a 'alfling

    So, yah rolled as a 'alfling, did yah? That's good, we've got us a right fine community that is growin' all the time and a more developed culture than any other subrace. But now yah be needin' tah know how tah sound like a good 'alfing. The tips below should 'elp yah out.

    1. Remember that 'alflings are country folk, preferring thar farms tah the big city. We don't 'ave all the fancy education that the city dwellers 'ave.

    2. Swallah yar h's and g's. When a word starts with a h, replace it with a ', such as in 'ave a good day! When a word ends with a g, also replace it with a ', such as in good evenin' tah yah.

    3. Use a country dialect that makes vowels flatten. Fer instance, use fer instead of 'for' and Ah instead of 'I'. Other examples are in this 'andy translation list:

    Ah = I

    Fer = For

    Mah = My

    Tah = To

    Thar = There or Their

    War = Were

    Whar = Where

    Yah = You

    Yar = Your

  5. OOC: Dunwood isn't necessarily a secret since we can't actively hide it from players, but we do try not to spread the word about it or even tell people about it who ask. Although it's a halfling community, it's a private community first. It was made with two other GM's and I as almost a post-leadership retirement. Then we just decided it'd be fun to add more people and make it a LITTLE village. by little I mean there is only spots for twelve houses. Seeing as how the houses are both large and free and anyone who lives in Dunwood has access to... everything, we don't throw around trust like drugs at a Dylan concert. In regards to us jumping around in Alkhazar after talking to the King, I apologize, it was late and we had a lot going on in respects to fighting with someone over a building. Quite a bit of OOC talking there in /tell, so our attention was elsewhere. If I you ever see me around again chad, try to get in touch with me, it'd be interesting to RP with you and I might even take you to Dunwood. There isn't really a system to getting into Dunwood, just hang around and RP with us, if we like you we'll ask you to stay, if not, we'll tell you to take a hike. The worst is when people don't take a hint :/

    OOC: I did enjoy the RP the other night when you were visiting Al'Khazar, even if my character didn't. I chatted with Lomatico today in the city and he suggested that after the funeral I seek you out in town. I'm not entirely sure that I'll be able to attend the ceremony, but I hope to be. If I am, afterwards I will make my way over to the plaza where your new shop is located. Coincidentally, I own a small shop myself a few blocks away from it. I will wait there for a while in case you have time to chat.

  6. As Ah was leaving Al'Khazar today, Ah was accosted by an armed Elven brigand outside of the Reformed Church. He demanded 50 Minas from me. Ah am an old man and a spiritual guide as Ah told the brigand. He lowered 'is demand tah 30 Minas, then 20 Minas. Ah asked 'im if he would harm an old man of God, and he gave up the mugging and put away 'is sword. As a man of God, Ah gave him 20 Minas outta kindness as he displayed mercy whar he did not 'ave tah. Twas definitely an experience, Ah tell yah.

  7. A second question fer all the 'alflings out thar. Why were yah born a 'alfling as opposed tah another race? Who were yar parents?

    Ah was born of a human mudder and a dwarf fadder, a minor emissary in the Royal service. That was 64 years ago now and Ah've never regretted being a 'alfling.

  8. OOC: That brings about a question I had: Do the halflings have their own pagan religion? I don't really see them praying to the main church, but I don't know.

    OOC: That definitely brings an even more interesting roleplay issue into play. There are several possible options.

    1. Halflings have their own religion, pagan or otherwise.

    2. Halflings have long since been converted to the Lore Church by missionaries.

    3. Halflings have always been adherents of the Lore religion with their own variation.

    4. Halflings are non-religious.

    Seeing as the life of a Halfling revolves around the harvest, it would make sense that a Halfling religion would center around a God or Goddess of the Harvest/Sun/Rain/Life. Or there could even be a pantheon of gods that each play a specific role in the Halfling lore. Given the basic architecture of Halflings, however, any religious structure would be either temporary or a very simple altar. At any rate, there would definitely not be a War god in the pantheon.

    IRL, I am both a minister and professionally trained historian. I have extensively studied many "pagan" religions in tracing the origins of many Christian doctrines and traditions. I would love to work with you on the development of a Halfling religion that I could RP in-game as a Halfling spiritual leader.

  9. We keep it secret to keep it safe. We live in peace and harmony with the nature that surrounds Dunwood. If you read the wiki, the halfings of Dunwood are just conveniently out of the way of all the fuss going on in the world of Aegis. We may stroll into Oren every once in a while to sell some wares, tell stories to those interested, or to drink up with the other races in Aegis.

    That is wise, but it also discourages other 'alflings from moving tah the town. Ah am an old man now, and seek a safe, outta the way place tah retire tah. Ah could even serve as the town's spiritual guide, and clergyman should the Temple get around tah it. The travelling life is not fer 'alflings, but that 'as been what Ah've done fer a considerable time. 'Tis time tah settle down amongst mah brethren.

    -Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?: Of course

    -Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself:

    I am a high school history teacher and part-time farmer. I am also a Unitarian minister, which ties in to my role play persona. I have been an avid online gamer since the late 1990s.

    -How long have you played minecraft?: Since August 2010

    -What do you know about roleplaying?:

    I have been roleplaying since the 1980s as a member of SCA (medieval re-enactment association). Beginning in the 1990s, I began participating in several roleplaying groups - as the internet was not widespread, we would add to the lore and storyline by mailing each other our submissions to the master document, slowly building the roleplay story over the course of several years. After getting internet service in 1996, I became active on roleplaying forums, generally with a medieval fantasy theme. This continued through the 2000s to today. In Minecraft, I have been a member of a few roleplay servers where I tend to cause a bit of consternation amongst other players by refusing to ever leave character.

    -What do you expect this server will be like?:

    I have extensively explored the server as a wandering soul and expect it to be as amazing as it appears. I love the architectural styles of the cities and towns, and cannot wait to make my own additions.

    -What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?: The primary servers I have been a member of for a considerable length of time are (from present back):

    *IMPACT - server and forum admin, master builder

    *Erysis - roleplayed a Dwarven abbot

    *Buxville - joined at the urging of an old friend

    *LRR Server - server admin, master builder

    *City of Islands - server moderator, roleplay administrator, forum owner

    -What is your The Lord Of Craft forum account name?: chad_stumph

    In-Character:

    -Character Name: Orlin Stromgaul

    -What is your Race?: Human - specifically Half-ling

    -Biography: Born in the Whisper Isles to Elyssa Sailwright, a Human seamstress, and Dwarven Emissary Wogli Stromgaul, Orlin was raised by his mother in her hometown. Brought up in the Reformed Church, as he grew older he questioned their teachings in contrast to the True Church. Educated locally, Orlin questioned everyone around him, displaying an innate intelligence that caught the attention of the local priest. Sponsored by the priest, Orlin was sent to study in the great libraries of Laurelin, the Elven capital. After several years of study, he travelled to Al'Khazar to study under the High Priest. Following his apprenticeship, Orlin was ordained to the Clergy of Aegis.

    Owing to his general dislike of the large cities and the disdain of those around him due to his being a Half-ling, Orlin left Al'khazar after his ordination and returned to the Whisper Isles. For several years, he was an associate priest in the Isles, tending to his mother in her dotage. However, after her death, he decided to leave the Isles and seek out his father, who had returned to Kal'Uruguan upon the end of his diplomatic appointment. Journeying far into the Dwarven kingdom, he encountered many interesting travellers along the way.

    Once in Kal'Uruguan, Orlin sought out his father, who had retired from the diplomatic service and now owned a tavern. Despite his religious calling, Orlin remained in Kal'Uruguan for several decades, assisting his father in the tavern and giving the occasional sermon. Finally, his father passed away and the tavern passed to his eldest Dwarven son, who promptly sold it. Orlin was forced to leave Kal'Uruguan as his father's family would not accept a Half-ling amongst them.

    By this time, Orlin was himself an old man as far as Half-lings go. Having fought against the disdain the descendent races held for the Half-lings for so long, he decided to seek out the Half-ling community in Dunwood. Thus is where his current adventure begins...

    -Character Age: 64 years old (Elder stage)

    -Character Appearance: Orlin is relatively short, as are most Half-lings. His beard and remaining hair have turned a snowy white with age. He wears austere brown leather clothing with arm bands and appears more as a monk than a priest.

    -Character Personality: A kind elderly man, Orlin still possesses the innate intelligence seen long ago. He is also very pious, dedicating a portion of his day to prayer and meditation. Given his charitable nature and life experiences, Orlin enjoys helping others and socializing.

    -Your ambitions: To find Dunwood and seek to become the community's spiritual leader.

    -Can your character read or write?: Yes, he studied in the great libraries of Laurelin and under the tutelage of the High Priest of Oren.

    -Can your character mine?: To an extent. Although his father was a dwarf, he has had little mining experience.

    -Are you a capable builder?: To an extent. He studied architecture and carpentry in Laurelin, but has never practiced either.

    -Can you wield a sword?: No. As a priest, Orlin has never taken up arms against another living being.

    -Enjoy Farming?: Yes, part of his dream to live in Dunwood involves farming.

    -Does your character have any special skills?: He spent decades running a Dwarven tavern, so has the appropriate skills for brewing ale and making bread and smoked fish.

    -A screenshot of your skin: OldDwarvenMonk.jpg

    Other Information: If accepted, I am willing to work on updating the wiki as well.
