  1. I appreciate your desire to create a following under Aeriel again. As someone who served as the leader of the Ascended on the server for quite some time, some of the most fun roleplay I had was acting on behalf of the covenant of the caretaker of souls. The prose within the piece of lore was decently done, and there are many unique takes on both adherence to the aengul herself, as well as the different powers bestowed in order to achieve the aims of the tenants. In the period I spent as both a loremaster and writer, I believe your submission is fairly adequate especially considering what help you must have received. There are some issues within the piece itself that I find directly to do with continuity, mostly in correlation with references such as the "aengul of ambition". In dichotomy to this however, faith was a nice touch considering it was one of the four original pillars in the trials of the Ascended, and keeps in line with the goals of the deity. All in all, I give this my support. I genuinely hope it works out for you and wish you luck.

What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Fire Evocation,

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

Offer an explanation of said magic/s you learned:

Evocations: Like all void magic, evocation requires a successful connection to the void. Void connection causes a large strain on the physical body, and will show strain when connecting to perform evocation and arcane magic. Evocation itself is the art of summoning an element within the void, and thereby summoning it within the world. As in all evocations and that of void magics, the element must be well known to be summoned from within the void. To learn how to summon a certain element within the void, the element must be worked with and given exposure towards the character. Evocation does not allow power over elements already within the world, only those summoned by the caster, him or herself.

Fire Evocation: Like all evocations, fire evocation requires studying and working with the element before attempting to summon it within the void. This is harder with fire, because of how dangerous it is to study, but it is very crucial to summon it within the void and thereby summoning it within the world. Summoning fire like other evocations can not be refined into complex forms, and figures . Like other magic, learning to summon the element itself takes time and effort, and a student of fire evocation would train at creating sparks, while a learned (T3) fire evocationist may create a small fireball.

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

Evocation carries many magics, one of which is fire. Fire has no sub-sections and rather is itself a whole magic with little variation outside of the progression of magic.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

Elder Grungron Irongut would give a very visible shiver of his old body, odd for the amount of warmth in the largely lit auditorium. He would speak in a very dignified tone of voice, his words carrying throughout the large structure before him "Now watch..."  he states, trailing off. The ancient man slowly beginning to fixate his gaze upon his target inside the warm room, he would simply raise an open palm extended towards the target that remained hanging from the ceiling of the tall building. With the outstretched appendage, he would give a slight involuntary twitch of his shoulder, almost similar to a stretch or shrug of his shoulders. A single spark would appear before his hand, emanating from seemingly nothing as it slowly fabricates into a small ball of red-hot flame. The hungry fire eating away at the visible air they are summoned into, manifesting itself before the short form as he stands silently, focusing on the target before the sphere simply launches from the mans hand into the target, eating away at the wooden dummy. Upon the initial impact, the flames would cling to the wood as if searching for a source, burning away and leaving embers in its wake as the dummy begins to fall apart in a burning cavalcade of cinder. Standing pleased with his demonstration, he would complacently stand for a moment, before wiping a very small bead of sweat from his brow as if having exerted a small amount of effort. He would give a deep sigh, before turning from the now destroyed dummy. "And now... we move on."

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

    Fire

Grungron Irongut would continue to talk with his student, his tone weary and weak as they spoke informally near the un-lit hearth. "It is important you realize the danger you wield when you cast a spell." he states, his old and addled memory rushing to him as the words leave his mouth "Fire is uncontrollable, dangerous. In its unpredictable nature it can harm those around you, you wish to protect." he says almost to himself, nostalgia filling the mans brain "It is important to realize that you only control what you summon, what comes as a result you cannot stop. A small spark in a forest leading to an unavoidable fire as an example." He would look over to the fireplace, the unburnt firewood sitting idly. "Conjure an your image, an anchor if you will in your mind once more. In that darkness of the everlasting void of space, feel the warmth of fire you felt in the world and bring it forth there. Show me what I have taught you." he says solemnly.

The student would begin to raise his arm, flinching as if in pain as he thinks to himself in great ponderance. His eyes would grow misty as if he was lost in thought, his attention seemingly elsewhere as he stares at the cold of the unlit fireplace. The outstretched hand shaking as he focuses all of his energy in his mind upon the warmth and light of a small fire. Trying to imagine a spark, a single light in the abyss that was the void. Throughout that ever-present darkness, a single light, a solitary spark would come to life inside the lumber of the wood. The pieces of small light would fall onto the wood, the kindling catching ablaze in a small flame. The embers falling from the fire as it spreads among the planks would provide a sense of warmth and heat that fills the room, the student turning to the Elder "Why cant I control the fire?"

The Elder would simply shake his head, muttering beneath his hood inside the now heated room, speaking softly "It is an unfortunate reality that our magic can bring destruction, it's a tool that lays as a double-edged sword. If in your folly you create a flame, you must be aware of the consequences it brings. In its wake brings loss, and it can consume that which you wish to save. I would recommend being careful with your use of magic, and with that of the void. It can bring wanton death and worse, things you cannot control as a result of ignorance. Carry this with you, and continue to hone your ability to summon smaller sparks. We will move to flames eventually, makes yourself more acquainted with the natural element to better your understanding of summoning its magical counterpart from the void. You cannot control what spreads from it, so you must be careful."

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

Generally with a warning using consequence. It is alright to be kind with them as long as they understand what they did is incorrect. Teaching them that what they did was either forced or outside the reach of what is capable is significant to the teaching process especially when commenting on powergaming or an emote that was unfair. Informing them properly of red-lines is a specific duty of an instructor, and the ignoring of a teacher or conduction of poor role-play in spite of warning should be reported to the MAT so that the application may be revoked if the student is unreceptive or otherwise disingenuous about fixing the mistakes they make either in the case of a poor student or teacher.

Thoughts without giving any constructive criticism is just wasted time. what kills the server most is constant nostalgia from older members. “This isn’t how so and so ran things” “This time way back then was the best moments in the server” yet to the uninitiated who never got to experience any of this. Everything looks to be much of the same, at least to me. All that’s changed is who’s doing it and with what are they doing it. Oren is still around in practice, druids still erp, halflings still do as they do, and new players still bumble about.

It was terrible then, and it’s worse now. The nostalgia only applies to the opinion on free-build vs region-build and crafting plugin vs. no crafting plugin. The staff is more-or-less the same with managers and more transparency. The LT is still deeply flawed. They just spend more time technical writing what they’ve done now, which just detracts from the work of the other members.

Okay, so this is the third post I'll make. If this one gets removed I'm just going to flip. The lore is awkwardly written and way too short. The parts that are 'expanded' are useless fluff while other things are never explained or brought up later in the post mechanics wise.  I've given Lark a document which outlines all the problems I've seen with the lore.

Though I will keep insisting, rebranding towards this direction will not change anything in regards to reputation or the actual purpose of Ascended. They should have stayed removed the first time, and the hamfisted attempt of staying relevant falls flat and really ruins any attempt of rewrite.

The name of the Ascended and the stigma surround it will never go. I don't play much anymore but I look at the forums enough to know that this would be a bad addition for the server. If you guys aren't holy, then there's really no place for you on the server.

I'm against removal of freedom of speech in any manner, and I wish the FMs didn't take your opinion away, Grim. I agree with you for the most part on the writing, and that the stereotype for the generalized holy magic roleplay that has plagued lotc which needs to be addressed. I disagree completely on the stigma that surrounds the guild, which was fueled by individual conflict and doesn't currently represent the guild adequately nor appropriately. The reputation will only stay besmirched due to stubborn people who refuse to accept change and keep residual hate based on something that had nothing to do with the present.

I ask, why not change? It brings something newer to the idea of Ascended and strays from the previous iteration along with not having a total focus on undead.

LOTC is a roleplay world, one where storyline is supposed to be key and essential to the plot. It makes absolutely no sense to change or create lore without a reason in-game even if it's driven by out-of-character mechanical changes within the effect of powers present. That said, while the ominous reason implied is intriguing there was no direct answer as to why the change in magic came from a lore perspective. I do believe that it was properly referenced within the context of the writing however, just without blatant meaning which is asinine. It is important to keep consistency in a vibrant world and to do that everything must have a reason in order to keep out arbitrary roleplay that is fundamentally flawed.

I think this post strays so far from the entire point of 'lore' - which is to show the life of the server passed down from generation to generation of players. This is just made up nonsense written on a forum thread, it has no relevance to anything which happened in the past and very little of what actually occurs in game.

But Ascended should have been removed at the end of Aegis and have been breaking and making up their lore ever since, so what more can I really expect.

Ascended lore from aegis remained intact into early Athera including minor changes from Asulon which did take precedent at the time. The changes were forced by loremasters in late Athera without consequential reason besides "please nerf". Not only did they not come up with a reason in writing for as to why the orders magic suddenly had a drastic change, they continually ignored the playerbase on multiple accounts. While wanting to change powers to keep the game balanced is noble, doing so at the expense of needless, drastic, change is ridiculous. That who forms the assertion should give the remedy in a fair manner, whereas the remedy thus far by our lore team (into vailor at least) was to remove it rather than fix it. The Ascended removal was unwarranted and completely fueled by OOC conflict. That said, I agree that the lore has no place without explanation for the changes.

I'm just going to make a general response to everyone commenting on how different the lore is:

For year and a half I have been an Ascended, we never see any end to all the insults we get about our magic, be it that it targets undead or just the plain 'Ascended Suck' with no other context besides someone just wanting to put us down. But now that we have changed the lore, which we were asked to change to be something new and different by the LT Lead, mind you, you're all now so concerned about our lore and saying that the changes aren't good?

I'm just going to be honest, how do we win with you people? Telling us to shelve or go away isn't going to happen, so any comment with that statement is of no concern to us whatsoever. But that fact that on one day you insult our lore and the next you try to uphold it makes me question whether you actually care about server lore or rather just get enjoyment out of sitting on a forum all day and messing with people or playerbases.

I brought the Ascended back and I have qualms about change in lore without an in-game reason, though this isn't to discount the extreme harassment present on the server towards the order which has no significant basis. Nor is this at all evident to the idea that I'm opposed to change, just change without necessary explanation. The premise of how the order is treated is based on player conflict with players who no longer exist in the order has fueled horrible roleplayers into taking an out-of-character bias which has been pushed into an in-character agenda against the order.

That said I wholeheartedly think it would of been a good idea to put more context into the changes that are taking place and how they'll affect how the order functions for simplicity of sufficient world-view reasoning as to why these changes should take place at all. Whether there will be change at all isn't a give-in, though this doesn't discount the idea that it needs premise. The reasons presented within the text are too vastly ominous and vague to actually pull meaning from as an outside reader or to the lore masters you are presenting this to.

@Jondead P.S. While it wasn't overtly referenced that Aeriel was the presiding deity of the moon, it has been indirectly implied multiple times. Not only in the rewrite post they listed, but in the writings and the idea that Dungrimm was meant to be the guardian who worked for Aeriel to secure the soul stream and holds his palace on the moon. Multiple other indeterminate places described the idea as well in past lore, however it wasn't something that had been prevalent. The old lore of the three primordials also had reference of the original mortals coming from the primordial of the moon which is of important consequence as Aeriel is the arch-aengul of souls.

They've also banned me for 3 days for saying retard in roleplay whereas I have seen people say much worse in rp even racial slurs like "I say n you say i...." and not a single one of them gets banned.

Do not ban someone because they have had history.

Two wrongs don't make a right. Proceeding on topic, people should be punished more strictly for a history of bans on /this/ server. People who commit more crimes, are more likely to do so again. You shouldn't take someones bans on another server as justification for punishment on a different one however, as they could have have had skewed reasoning. Banning someone for actions committed somewhere else is unjust, and makes no logical sense. It is good information to have though, as say someone is known for staff abuse on multiple different servers. That doesn't really make you think they'd be responsible for staff, now does it? The same reflects on them as a person for what they've done on other communities.
