  1. Well, this looks like a worthy cause. I shall be sure to drop by, and share a tale that will hopefully educate and entertain you.

However, I will print no promise on 'dramatic gestures and sound effects', as last time I checked I was not a dancing monkey.

    MCName: xzpepijnzx

    RPName: Rivell Gordian

What your story is about: An unusual dwarf stretches his limits to find himself a human bride!

  2. You crazies lol, edited post regarding "world reset" -_-.

Haha, I'm calm. Was just taken by surprise there.

I dont personally think we should get a new map. I have been on server that got new maps and Most people QUIT the server because of it and people lose things that are in chests. People work hard for their things and most dont want to lose them. Just my opinion. Thanks

There's already been lengthy discussion on this in other threads, such as:

    http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/14018-when-the-map-takes-a-wipe/

    http://www.lordofthecraft.net/forum/index.php?/topic/12655-about-the-18-update/

You might want to discuss that there.

  3. Sabet, 28th of Snows Maiden, 1316:

We are starting to uncover multiple grottos that may have served as cave dwellings and hiding spaces for the dark elves. These caverns seem damp and cramped, and I would abhor spending just one night in one of them. The original inhabitants must have used them out of necessity, perhaps a fear of being found if they spend too much time above the surface.

One of the caverns is directly below the largest tree of the village, baring its roots and the water that feeds it. I wonder if the elves tampered with this pool of water in some way, in order to have the tree grow to its unusual vastness.

Spending too much time in this grotto makes me ill at ease, my senses urging me to leave. This feeling might be the remnant of an ancient spell ment to keep intruders out. If this is true, I can only assume that within this grotto is something the former owners did not want to be found.

  4. I thought tythus was a 'higher-up'. As for ONE GM /setskilling himself to diamond repair level, then offering to services to people..... so what? What's the big deal?

Ariana has an 'admin shop'. Nobody complains about that. Shiftnative has tons of minas, again, no complaints. Don't get uppity at Tythus just because he decided to make himself the ONE GUY who can repair diamond tools. It's not like he's charging 3k per diamond per job.

....speaking of what he's charging, What're your fees, Tythus? I got a diamond sword and some armor that needs the sparkle reshined into it. I'd also like to purchase some gold from you if your prices aren't sillyhigh.

Well, I might as well paint a big target on my back, but...

He gave himself either 3 million minas or months of pure playtime worth of skill experience. Maybe it's because I really think the ability to repair diamonds is game-breaking in the first place (I mean, come on...) and I found comfort in the fact that it took tremendous effort to get the levels. But still...

Between this and the current xp tables, he just gave himself the monopoly on repairing diamond stuff, without a doubt the most powerful feat of all the skills and powers LoC has.

  5. Considering the current training and materials needed for any smith to gain the aptness to repair diamond equipment, the only conclusion is obscurity and witchcraft of some sort (if the seller indeed possesses this feat already).

I thought the higher-ups prohibited this. Very disappointing.

  6. While I'm not saying I wouldn't be a better linguist than some old elf, even I must admit it seems he possesses the perfect kind of stuffiness for a project like this. But even though progress waits for nobody, it would be an amiable action to let the old sage catch up with his affairs, and therefore I would be content to wait.

Naturally, there is not enough absent-mindedness in the world for anyone to think they can uncover a language all by themselves, and I can see the brand of benefits from organizing a project such as this. Scholars, even those of laughably lower intelligence than myself could be given the chance to contribute. Bringing this project to the masses, creating a concise dictionary of our findings and unraveling the grammar rules for everyone's insight would serve Aegis better than some estranged scribe scattered on the four corners of the map.

Drawing parallels to other languages to speed up our process is a splendid idea, but rather optimistic and unchecked if everyone gets their fair share of contribution to the project.

((Rivell, while human, would LOVE to talk all smug in old elven))

  7. Irba, 4th of Sun's Smile, 1316:

I have found an old tome amongst the ruins of the Dark Elven settlement. It denotes that the Dark Elves in Inwe were hunted by a people they called 'Marauders', a group that finally found and attacked the village. This may have been the cause of their disappearance, but that's anything but confirmed.

This book is not written in old elvish, but in common Aegis tongue. We might be able to derive a time period from this, or a taboo for using elvish in written work. Either way, the journal uses the word 'Velulaei', which possibly means 'Moon'. They speak of the moon as if she is an entitiy, like a goddess or a spirit. I wonder if this could be more than silly superstition of a primitive race.

  8. *A copy of an archaeologist's journal was sent to the guildhouse for perusal*

    My notes on Inwe

Joma, 20th of The Second Seed, 1316:

The Original Dark Elves of Inwe seemed to live within the forest, having trees for homes. In conflict with their orc neighbours, they hid themselves amongst the thick darkwood trees and found shelter and peace here.

Their houses are made of simple wooden constructions, preferring to live in the inside of thicker trees. Despite this preference, they were not keen on climbing, and dug cavernous dwellings below their houses as possible shelter and storage.

The grove within Inwe was the reason the Dark Elves split from Malinor. They worshipped the moon over the sun. This is evident from seeing their sacred pool, as it was built so that moonlight would reflect in it during their nightly gatherings.

In time, Dark Elves learned to weave forests and perhaps even draw the moon's power into magical abilities. Their chantings of old seem to echo within the pool still. It's possible that the Dark Elves had an order much like the Druids, but this is unconfirmed.

Tolta, 24th of The Second Seed, 1316:

There is a strange sort of energy wafting this place. It surrounds the pool like mist. I feel it strongest in the mornings, as the dew hangs from the leaves and the moon's touch is still fresh upon the pool.

It is revitalizing, like waking from a long sleep. Some traces of the Mali'Ker magic might still linger here.

  9. Tidings, elven. My name is Rivell Gordian, a historian and field researcher dabbling in various projects. My current affair I wish to discuss with you cautiously concerns the Aegis Archaeologists, an organization that is right now excavating a forest site that provided housing to the Dark Elves of old.

As you can undoubtedly understand, during such an excavation we find tiny tidbits of ancient language strewn about. As such, to most completely converse consistent knowledge of the language, I feel it of incredulous importance for us to keep in touch.

You may most hastily send reply to me, Rivell Gordian ((xzpepijnzx)) or our project leader, Sting Surion ((possut)). We are in eager expectation of your positive reply.

(Footnote: One of our assumptions is that the Dark Elves used the word 'Velulaei' for moon and 'mare' for Dark. Possibly, this would make the phrase leyu'mare the word for 'Dark Elven'. We would ask if there is evidence that this is incorrect.)

ERRATA: This footnote has been proven to falter at further research. Our transcripts are currently being rewritten. We maintain the word velulaei as correct, but leyu in fact means graceful, and mare is not a word. The word for 'dark' seems to be 'ker', synonymous to 'night'.

  10. Tidings. Your notice didn't fail to acquire attention. I, Rivell Gordian, find my field research distinctly dragging as of late and am looking for a project of prestige to undertake.

    RP name: Rivell Gordian

    In Game Name: xzpepijnzx

    Race: Human, Southeron

Historian or excavator?: Historian. I'd much rather focus on discovering lore than mindless digging.

Main job or extra job?: I can devote enough time on this project for it to be considered my main job.

Describe what you would do in this guild, what do you look forward to?: The same lands on which caviling cobblers spill their life essences harbors history rich and fascinating, and I am sure our assiduities will be time smartly spent. In this endeavor I will be glad to see a piece of history uncovered and accessible to the many travelers, and would take pride in increasing immersion for the Aegis population as they go about their routines.

  11. It might've been mentioned before, but it's worth repeating the imbalance of Blacksmithing. While other skills mostly grant abilities that everyone had in the first place (such as wielding diamond X), blacksmithing adds a whole new feature, and an EXTREMELY powerful one at that.

Repair almost fully destroyed armor at the cost of 1 piece of material. This degrades a full armor set to 1/6th of its former cost. Tools such as swords and pickaxes crash about 1/2 to 1/3 of their former costs as well.

And yes, with this prospect, we will see far more blacksmiths than excavators. I mean, if one option is so much more profitable than another, people will slightly bend their rp around and I don't think they can be blamed.

    Blacksmithing needs a serious nerf.

  12. Ah, after applying some... questionable methods.. I seem to have acquired myself an excess of leather armor sets.

As such, I am taking to selling them to you for the low price of 30 minas a set. At this price, I still have about 35 sets of armor left to sell.

Now I am also distributing chainmail armor, for a beginning price of about 100 minas a set.

I also will be selling a full quiver of arrows for a mere 90 minas a stack.

Interested parties may visit home in Kramoroe to complete the purchase. ((PM xzpepijnzx))

  13. Due to a recent series of event I seem to have acquired 1088 cubic metre (17 stacks) of sandstone. Caring little for building I'd rather have someone lighten this load at a reasonable price.

Piqued parties may respond rapidly through whatever form of courier they desire.

(PM xzpepijnzx ingame or post here.)

    In-Character:

    -Character Name: Rivell Gordian

    -What is your Race?: Human

    -Biography:

In an ordinary house in an ordinary hamlet, so putrid in its ordinarity, Rivell was born. The farmhands and blacksmiths' sons didn't take to Rivell. They ignored him. Picked on him, even. In turn, he found them dull. So gray and lifeless and sucked dry of any ambition, perfectly content to see the length of their lives blend together in a nameless, faceless stretch of insignificance. Unable to accept that his parents were in fact his parents, and taunted by dreams and hopes of wizards taking him away from this dreary reality, he ran away.

He was taken in by an old librarian who had found him reading the many books day after day. Rivell worked as an assistant, indexing the many books and copying the ones that were about to crumble to new paper. It was in this way that he had gotten to read so much. By the time he reached adulthood, he had the knowledge of a much older man, but coupled with typical youthful arrogance. When the librarian died, Rivell vanished, and kept himself alive for the years to come by petty theft, off-hand cores and, on a rare occasion, waylaying of innocent travelers.

But recently, Rivell refound his ambition, and set to the city of Al'Khazar to claim what he was due.

    -Character Age: 33

-Character Appearance: White cloak that covers his eyes, and common copper trinkets (such as a necklace) for jewelry. He hopes to switch this for something more fitting of his person soon.

-Character Personality: Being more intelligent and far more educated (with little patience to pretent otherwise) than the quibbling peasents he hates to call his kin, his very justified disdain makes him come off to the aforementioned peseants as haughty or arrogant. Apart from this, he shall feign modesty and acceptance towards individuals whenever he considers it useful, and shall even respect those who have proven themselves to far exceed the average farmer in brightness.

Other than that, Rivell considers a promise as unbending, but exploits his linguistic talent to keep everything he commits to cryptic and ambiguous.

-Your ambitions: Rivell only desires the things that should have been rightfully his already: a life of wealth and luxury, accomodated and pampered by the laborers and commoners who are blessed to call themselves his servants. Ideologically, Rivell would see the clearly outdated monarchy be swapped for the far better meritocracy, where those with brains think for those without.

-Can your character read or write?: Like the best of them

-Can your character mine?: Only when he had to.

-Are you a capable builder?: While it would be much preferred if he could spend his talents designing and leave the labor to the less valuable strength of his peers, he has found that these oafs seem unable (and often unwilling) to follow even the simplest orders for him to realize his grand design. As such, he shall often construct and repair his living quarters himself.

-Can you wield a sword?: He would rather abstain from the rough asperity of the battlefield, but cannot deny the core necessity of ridding the world of its pests every now and then.

    -Enjoy Farming?: Not at all.

-Does your character have any special skills?: No
