  1. To Devour One’s Wings prepared by CountJuno88 http://youtu.be/YYzzOJuS7Lo As the relentless storm of hail and snow continues to fall upon the frozen wasteland within the boundaries of the North, a lone silhouette of a hooded Elf traverses the tundra. Passing over ridges and frozen outcrops, he approaches the site of that which has called for him. The last challenge of his pilgrimage leads him to the bridges of thickened ice that have been been formed between towering pillars of stone over the centuries. As he crosses the final bridge, he enters an aged cavern lined with the glistening blue glow of the native Thaunhic ore. With one hefty sigh, he gazes upon the rays of light as he exits the cavern. At first, he is baffled by how the North could become so calm at a moment’s notice, but for now, he is more absorbed in the sight of what surrounds him. The bones of drakes lie scattered across the frozen plain he stands upon. He journeys ever onward. A seemingly cold and unconcerned expression upon his face. Extending an arm, he grasps at what appears to be the collarbone of one of the fallen beasts. He gazes upon the cold ivory with a stern gaze as he contemplates what meaning this might hold for him. His hand leaves the remains and finds its way to his chest right below his own throat. A single tear rolls down his cheek as a mighty howl of wind fills the valley. He shudders as a great shadow forms on the ground below him. “So,” he mutters to himself, “this is what becomes of me, is it? Is it true that no good deed ever goes unpunished? Is this the just reward I earn for attempting to bring freedom to imprisoned, tormented souls? Compassion hath earned an iron noose…” His right eye twitches once as a giant, winged creature slams into the ground before him. A great flurry of ice and snow flies into the wind as the mass of flesh and wings settles upon the frozen earth. In a last moments attempt of comfort, the robed figure stretches his hand into the air, palm upward, and rotates it clockwise once. A feeble orb of light forms upon the palm of his hand as he brings it to rest before his face. “Remember me, oh blessed light…” He manages to get out before a hot gust of wind shoots forth from the snout of the beast extinguishing the Elf’s final grasp of hope. “An immortal soul...but still so fragile…” The creature growls whilst letting out a deep, dark chuckle from from deep within it. “You are weak,” it continues, “but I can temper you into something far greater. Only I can grant you true freedom. Only I can free you from this torment. Do you not wish to be free?” The Elf’s right eye twitches once more as he comes to meet the gaze of the mighty Draakar. “Do what you have come to do. I… I have heard your whispers in my mind ever since I first touched the thoughts of your servant. Free me of this madness. I no longer know where my mind ends and the other thoughts begin. It is...more than I can bare…” He shudders as he falls upon the packed snow beneath him pulling his robes around him as if trying to collect as much warmth as he possibly can in this, his darkest hour. As he surrenders himself to fits of sobbing, he manages to sputter out, “Aeriel...hast thou abandoned me?” “Poor...feeble...creature…” The great beast mutters in a mocking growl. “You are unworthy of the potential held within you. You deserve it not, but that soon will no longer matter. I make perfect that which is flawed for I am perfection. There is none greater than I. There is none more ancient or wise than I. Your mistress that you call out to in desperation...she is nothing compared to the countless ages that I have seen come and go. She cannot save you...only I can. And I...will...not...” The dragon finishes with a roar of laughter that spews a blaze of blackened flames high into the chilled night sky. The tint of the fire washes over the broken form of the elf as he stares blankly out across the valley. “The blessed tree lives on...hope shall never die…” The elf wraps his arms around himself. “All shall burn...I am the only hope that you shall have…” The dragon begins to crawl slowly towards his prey. “She is with us until the end of days...her light shall deliver us in the end…” A single tear falls to the snow. “I am time itself...you shall be eternally mine…” The crunch of snow grows ever nearer. “Her warmth shall never abandon us…” A quiet sob echoes throughout the valley. “My fire shall consume your soul…” A deep, haunting growl grows louder and louder. “I shall never...never...I...I feel…” “...cold...” The elf utters not a cry nor sound as the fire of the dragon consumes him. His eyes are fixed upon the small orb of light that he managed to conjure up in his folded hands before his final moments. As his body begins to turn to ash, the orb slowly fades until it finally blinks from existence. The light is gone. The fire ceases. All is silent. There is only cold.
  2. Minecraft User Name: grand_kervall Character Name: Thaelen_Zerant Background/History (Chronologically and must be at least 1 paragraph long, but no longer than 4 paragraphs): Thaelen was always known by his parents and relatives to be a "cock-eyed optimist." He could always find the good in every situation, but, perhaps, this was due to his very sheltered lifestyle within the safety of the Elven Forests of Malinor. His parents, both scholars, were joyful elves as well. They took delight in their studies and often took Thaelen and his sister out into the forest so that they could play whilst their parents studied their various scrolls. As Thaelen matured, he too began to take an interest in wisdom and knowledge. He often travelled to the libraries of Malinor in order to gain a deeper understanding of the history of the Elves. After some time, Thaelen became bored with the information contained within the libraries of Laurelin. He began to thirst for adventure and the opportunity to study the world of Aegis by actually travelling outside of the Forests of Malinor, something he had never done before. He went out and purchased some travelling gear, packed a bag full of parchment, quills, and ink jars, and wished his family well. He travelled far and wide and eventually wound up far to the north at the gates of Aeriel's Keep. He was overjoyed for he did have a few scrolls pertaining to the Ascended and their ways. He was troubled by the absence of the Sages and quickly became disillusioned about the Aegis he had come to know in his books. Having nowhere else to go, he decided to join the ranks of the Followers of Aeriel and quickly put his skills to use. He poured his troubles into his work and successfully designed and constructed the Memorial Tower which now houses the sapling of the Tree of Life along with the Memorial to the Sages. Having many encounters with both good and evil people alike, Thaelen prepares himself for a brand new adventure, the adventure to discover the true good and evil which seems to determine the fate of Aegis. His time outside the forests of Malinor have been trying, but it has helped them to grow in greater wisdom and has also stirred up some wisdom buried beneath 200 years of studies. Thaelen now gives his life over to the protection of the Tree of Life and whatever fate it wishes to spin out for him. Good Deeds [Atleast 4 Occations] 1. Thaelen has, on many occasions, helped others to see the good in their fate. 2. Thalen has helped to ease the pain of an injured stranger. 3. Thaelen designed and constructed the Memorial Tower at Aeriel's Keep. 4. Thaelen spent 6 whole days meditating before the Tree of Life seeking the wisdom he has longed for and has diligently patrolled the Tower making sure no harm should ever befall it. :Character Flaws/Weaknesses: Thalen, at times, is very sensitive to things that he cannot wrap his mind around, but he strives diligently to see wisdom in every conflict that presents itself to him. Why you belong in Theology/Scholar/Warrior/Commerce?[Explain the abilities of your Character]: Thaelen places his fate in the hands of those who wish to place their faith in him. He will serve diligently in whatever capacity he asked for he is an elf of loyalty, honor, and compassion. Rationale [what is your characters mindset, why does he go out of his way to help others]: Thaelen is obsessed with the moral implications of all events in Aegis. He is not biased in the least bit, though. He handles things with rationality and patience wishing to discover the most peaceful solution he can find which serves the greatest good to the parties involved. How do you determine right from wrong [At least 1 paragraph]: Thaelen is a philosopher at heart. He determines good as to what serves the basic needs of all peoples, that being, the perservation of life and the dignity of all peoples. Patience and compassion lead one to the truth, whilst swords and bloodshed lead one to chaos and strife. What are your characters views on the following statements (At least 1 Paragraph): 1. Cephalus defines ‘justice’ as speaking the truth and paying one's debts. Socrates quickly refutes this account by suggesting that it would be wrong to repay certain debts—for example, to return a borrowed weapon to a friend who is not in his right mind. Justice should only be handed out by those who are of great wisdom, compassion, and have the heart of a humble servant. In this manner, he strives to uphold the integrity and dignity of all persons. If he must make the decision to refuse a man his sword, it is because he knows that this man would use it to cause bodily harm to himself or others and, therefore, could not allow him to have it back as this would serve no justice for the man in question or the people who would be felled by his blade. 2. 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous misfortune, or to take arms against a sea of troubles, And by opposing end them? Thaelen would rather take upon himself the suffering of the oppressed then take up the sword and create more suffering. Many are called to take up arms and to fight wars, but few are called to be the courageous martyr and to lay their lives down to defend the greater good.
