Out-Of-Character
Minecraft Account Name:
ktccd
Did you attend minecon and sign up at the LOTC booth?:
No, Minecon is a bit out of reach from my continent XD.
How old are you?:
19 (.6 or something)
Time-Zone/Country of Residence:
+1, Sweden
Do you have a good grip on the English language/good grammar?:
Yes, I'm often taken for an Englishman because of it.
Small 2-3 Sentence Description of yourself:
I'm a student, on his way to becoming a computer engineer and I enjoy all nerdy things. From games, reading and roleplaying, to programing and manga. I also like to make awesome redstone stuff in minecraft.
How much time could you be on the server weekly?:
Depends on my workload in college.
What do you know about Roleplaying? Give a definition of what it means to you.:
I've roleplayed (mostly tabletop) for years and I've been a dungeon master for even longer. I define roleplaying as acting out another person, in a fictional setting. A chance to pretend to be someone you're not, do things you otherwise wouldn't and to be the main character of a story your dungeon master loosely narrates.
In a minecraft POV, it is to be part of a larger story, strung together by the adventures and daily affairs of dozens of other roleplayers, in a setting defined and structured by the staff of the roleplaying server.
In your own Words, describe what Metagaming and Powergaming are.
Metagaming is to act, not as your character, but as yourself. You bet that cake is poisoned? Well, if your character trusts the person and loves cake, he would likely eat it, but a metagamer would find some excuse not to.
A powergamer is even worse, I avoid RPing with such players altogether. The textbook example is two kids fighting, one saying he uses lasers, the other saying he has laser shields. The first kids says his lasers are made of super laser and destroys them, the second says he has plasma shields and stops them. Both would be powergamers, god-moding their way through and not allowing a two-way RP.
((Looking over the rules a second time, I did not find any other definition of powergaming, although I could add the scenario of godmode-sue characters, or simple "good at everything" characters))
What do you expect this server will be like?:
I expect a LotR theme, dwarves and all that. Unfortunately, I expect to find the majority of the dwarves scottish and all elves to be "humans, except better". I do hope I'm wrong though, this server has been warmly recommended to me.
What other server(s) have you played on and why did you leave them?:
Oh.... long list... Let's stick to the minecraft servers at least, and only RP ones at that:
Navia - I was there early, when it was magic and fantasy. Unfortunately, it devolved into some sort of "royalty RP" at a certain point. I resigned my staff position and left not very long after, seeking to find a server like the original Navia.
Mesalia - Mesalia was pretty much like the original Navia, it had very much a similar feel. I enjoyed a lot of RP here, but eventually fell out and resigned my staff position as I needed a break from RPing a little bit. I returned later, but I never got very "into" it and decided to leave quietly.
Retrofuture (something such, a steampunk RP server) - I left not very long after joining, as I felt the staff were not what I had hoped for and there was a lot more "kill on sight" than RP between factions it seemed. About 80% of all characters seemed to, if not enjoy then at least have no problem with, murder. Not quite my style.
Those are all the major RP servers I've been on. The list would be huge if we counted all Minecraft servers and my history as staff on them.
Have you read, understood, and agreed to the rules?:
Yes, no problems here.
How did you hear about us?:
Recommendations amongst my acquaintances.
Have you voted for the Lord of the Craft on Minestatus? Which vote number were you?
No, I tend to not vote for servers I do not have firsthand experience of.
What is your The Lord Of Craft forum account name?:
same as IGN, ktccd.
In-Character
Character Name:
Barsk Graal
What is your Race?:
Dwarven
Biography(This should include the history of your character and his life as well as age, appearance and personality, etc.):
The clanging noise filled the smithy, the warm colours of the fire filling the room as Karsk Graal worked. He was slightly taller than the avarage dwarf and with his dark red hair and thick build he was an oft-admired member of his town, the name of which was never important is remembered by few.
Next to him, stoking the fire with an ever so steady rythm, was Barsk Graal, the spitting image of his father, if slightly shorter and his mother's golden eyes.
Karsk believed strongly in the dwarven traditions, something he made sure his son knew full and well. Barsk mostly thought he enjoyed making him do menial work and was hung-up on the old ways.
Although he rarely showed it, Karsk was proud of his sons skill. He simply believed children must be brought up strictly, lest they grow up weak in mind and body.
When Barsk was roughly twenty-three years old, Barsks parents reasoned that he had nothing more to gain by being an apprentice, so he would leave town to make his fortune, something he took to heart. But whenever he tried to make anything it did not matter the amount of work and detail he put into his work, it still did not match his fathers work, even at their worst.
And he realised, it was not entirely because he lacked the skill, but that the material he used was often mixed with less valuable metals, or of poor quality.
He decided then and there, that to be a true blacksmith and overcome his fathers skill, he would take apprenticeship as a miner and learn how to gather his own materials.
And so passed seven long and hardworking years, where Barsk spent the majority of his time in the mines or drinking with other miners. Once he was recognised as a fullworthy miner, he added a silvery tattoo to his left arm, the traditional mark that a miner took once he passed apprenticeship, to match the one on his right, which signified his worth as a smith.
And such was the tale of his past, for no further events worth speaking of has happened since then... Although he aims to change that rather shortly...
Your characters ambitions:
His short-time goal is to improve his craftsmanship, whilst in the longer run he hopes to be widely renowned for his skills and step out of the shadow of his father.
Out in the Wilds, your character comes across a small cottage. Outside, there appears to be an elf struggling combat with two bandits. What does your character do?
((Assuming I know they are bandits, and any combat follows the server rules))
He would loudly proclaim his presence to the bandits, hopefully distract them from the battle and challange them to "fight like a man, rather than a pack of beasts". Wether or not they accept his challange, he would shortly after charge at them with his axe.
If they feel like fighting someone who has great access to attacking in crotch-level with an axe, they could stay ^^.
He might not show much mercy however, as he believes there is nothing more dishonourable than to steal the fruit of someone elses hard work and skill.
Your character walks up to a shop in a quiet market. "Hello, my good sir!" says the shop owner. "What may I help you with today?" How does your character answer?
"I'm looking fer some fruit, fresh apples would do.", in a polite tone of voice.
"Dreadfully sorry, but we're just out of apples. I do have a delicious melon however."
"Well, I'll take that then, I need to have some fruit. Let me have a look then."
The merchant lifts up a heavy melon, which is very ripe and looks to be at it's sweetest.
"A real beauty, this one. It's been quite a harvest this year, I say."
Barsk holds the melon, carefully weighing it and lightly knocking on it.
"Ye, this will do quite nicely, how much for it?"
"Well, for this fine melon, I expect no less than 10 gold."
"TEN?! For a MELON?! A melon goes for around a single gold!"
"Well, this is a really big and juicy melon, and it's the only piece of fruit left in the entire marketplace."
"I'll give you two gold for it and not a gold more. There a limits to how much something is worth, scarce or not."
The merchant scratches his balding head, before nodding, "Fine, two gold it is."
Satisfied with his purchase, the dwarf walks away from the market, carrying his newly purchased melon.

I'm not sure if the previous app counted as denied, as I stated in it I had not started on the background yet (I was going to eat before writing, just didn't want to lose what I'd already written XD).
