dangit I wish I could whip the orcs into something resembling a sustainable civilization

I should become more active in LOTC and the forums, but I'm not sure I'll have the time after school starts on Monday. Maybe this summer... I wish!

He was an only child, and he enjoyed gazing westward, wondering about the Cloud Temple he had heard about from a traveling monk. His parents had never told him about it, and he wondered why not. He was about to find out. The day after his 16th birthday, his father took him to a cave. The inside was lined with obsidian, and his father ordered him to bow down to a statue of a scaled monster. He was horrified. The traveling monk had also told him about the worshippers of Iblees, and Clabar now knew that his father was of their ranks. He fled from the cave. His father was too startled by his son's reaction to pursue immediatly. However, Clabar knew that soon he would be followed. He sprinted home and started to pack food for a long journey. He knew that he could not continue to live with his parents. He avoided his mother - no doubt she would detain him. With a heavy heart he set off for the Cloud Temple, where he hoped to gain shelter. The next three days were horrible. He had barely any head start on his father, so he traveled off in a totally random direction before doubling back to confuse pursuit. When he crossed his trail, he could see his father's tracks beside his own. Frightened, he doubled his pace. He knew that he could find haven in the Cloud Temple. Appearance During the days spent recuperating in the Temple, he changed his name to Kivish Regiden. He grew his first beard, braiding it and draping it over one shoulder, and stopped shaving his eyebrows. He removed his childish mustache, and donated all of his old clothes to charities. A fortunately timed growth spurt further altered his appearence, allowing him to pass for a short human. Personality He blames Iblees and all of his followers for the loss of his parents, and hates them for it. He learned to think about everything coldly and rationally and to exert a granite will over his thoughts and feelings. He is secretive and does not gain freinds easily. He overestimates his fighting prowess. He is overly grim for sixteen years old. He believes that the ends justifty the means, and is not above minor criminal activity to help the attempts to wipe out the worshippers of Iblees. What are your characters ambitions?: Kivish wants to destroy the worshippers of Iblees. He hopes to find his parents and convince them that they have chosen the wrong religion, although he realizes that his dream is rediculous. The shopkeeper is not a Human, he is a poor dwarf looking to make a living in a new city. What is your response? Why should I pay attention? It's not my business. I have to buy five leather helmets. I walk off on my important business, but in spite of myself, I start thinking. Maybe simple acts of kindness are what seperates the light from dark. The shop I was heading for is out of leather helmets. Irritatated, I retrace my steps, glancing towards the shop as I pass. A row of leather helmets is on display on the counter. I slap my forehead as an inobservant idiot and go to buy the necessary goods. You’re in the Cloud Sanctuary late at night, when a large Orc begins to threaten a nearby dwarf. The only present monk is fast asleep, and the situation looks like it will escalate into violence soon, what does your character do? I walk over and politely ask the orc to leave the temple. He turns and snarls something at me, then turns back to the dwarf. Oh well, it's not my business. I start to walk away, when something changes my mind. With all my strength, I swing the flat of my axe at the back of the orc's knee. The joint buckles, and it takes several seconds for the orc to regain his balance. By that time, the dwarf and I are far down the path out of the sanctuary. Whilst walking down the road to Malinor, you stumble upon an old man. His walking stick , looks weak and frail, and just as you are about to ask something, the stick breaks, and the man falls to the ground. As he falls down, a bag of Minas falls to the ground, and splits open. As you watch the multiple coins spill out, you peer down at the defenceless man. What does your character do?:I draw my axe to chop a new walking stick for him. Then I help him up and give him the walking stick. I tie the hole in the bag shut, or transfer it to another bag if I have one, then ask the question I was going to ask earlier. I then walk off towards Malinor. If he is going my way, I offer to carry the bag.

The shopkeeper is not a Human, he is a poor dwarf looking to make a living in a new city. What is your response? If I'm not on a errand of my own, I offer to help him. If he accepts, I run errands for him, organize his shop, advertise, and help him in any other way I can find. While I am helping in his shop, I pocket some small trinkets and a few minas, making sure to take very little so that he won't notice later. I reason that destroying the temples of Iblees is surely far more important than the success of a single shopkeeper, and besides, it's not like I ruined his livelihood. You’re in the Cloud Sanctuary late at night, when a large Orc begins to threaten a nearby dwarf. The money, as always, will go towards wiping out the worshippers of Iblees. I tie the hole in the bag shut, or transfer it to another bag if I have one, then walk off towards Malinor. I reflect that while I am comfortable taking a few coins here and there, I have never taken all the money someone has, and never plan to.

The shopkeeper is not a Human, he is a poor dwarf looking to make a living in a new city. What is your response? If I met a struggling shopkeeper, then I would probably try to give him some advice on how to get more business, money, etc. If I had no experience as a shopkeeper, and no knowledge of how or where shops could be most profitable, then I would offer some physical help, such as running errands, or helping him advertise. You’re in the Cloud Sanctuary late at night, when a large Orc begins to threaten a nearby dwarf. The only present monk is fast asleep, and the situation looks like it will escalate into violence soon, what does your character do? Not wanting to disturb the monk, and considering myself fully capable of resolving the conflict on my own, I ask the orc to quit that. He snarls something at me, then turns back towards the dwarf. Bad move. With the dull end of my axe, I conk him on the back of the head. He falls over forward, the dwarf stepping out of the way of the hefty orc just in time. He thanks me, and I go to ask the monk to help me move the orc to the infirmary. I'm sorry if I am still powergaming in this scene. If I am, than I don't know what powergaming is. In-Character Details Character Name: Kivish Regiden Character Race: Mountain dwarf Character biography - Make this at least 2 paragraphs long, which must explain your character’s history, appearance, personality, age and any other details you deem necessary: I, Kivish Regiden, am a dwarf, but even by their standards I am short. Barely a meter tall, I wear heavy helmets nearly all the time to disguise my lack of stature. However, the shortness comes in handy on assasination raids, where I can travel easily under the watchful eyes of most guards. I never cut my beard to shorter than two meters and keep it in a braided coil around my neck. I am known for using it as a non-lethal weapon in brawls. I hold fast to a strong code of ethics I invented myself. I am ultimately searching for my brother's killer. Once, when I was a lad of 16, and my brother 18, we both traveled deep into the mountains to gather firewood. In the distance, we spotted a column of smoke. It was several leagues off, but clearly still within our lands. We had a stout wooden fence, and all the neighbors knew they not to travel through my parents' lands. My brother and I decided to investigate. My older brother was learning to fight with an axe, and perhaps that made him overconfident. He challenged the robed intruder with much more boldness than I ever hope to have. I hung back in the shadows. Without even looking up, the figure flicked his fingers towards my brother. Instantly the small fire rushed forwards, consuming my brother. I climbed a tree just as fast as I could. The fire subsided, and with a gesture, the wizard extinguished it. He headed off towards my parents' settlement. Overcome with terror, I traveled in the opposite direction, towards the great Sanctuary I had once heard about. I have no idea what happened to my parents - I never returned to my father's settlement. I vowed to kill the mage. The best way to do this, I decided, would be to hire myself out as a mercernary/assasin to the greatest magehunters I could find. What are your characters ambitions?: To kill the mage that murdered my brother (and possibly my parents). To find my parents (if they are still alive). To find my parent's old settlement, and pay my last respects. After I have completed these goals, I intend to learn an honest trade, or perhaps found a settlement, like my parents. The only present monk is fast asleep, and the situation looks like it will escalate into violence soon, what does your character do? The dwarf, furious at being addressed so, turns to glare up at the orc. Despite being only 3/4 of the height of the troll, he does not look at all fearfull. I run to try to wake the monk, but he merely stirs in his sleep and mutters. It looks like it's up to me to resolve this conflict. I offer to lend the dwarf my axe, and supervise a duel, as long as they leave the sanctuary first. He refuses, not very graciously, and begins to circle the orc. The huge humanoid turns to face his agressor. As soon as he turns his back to me, I knock him out with the flat of my axe. The dwarf, furious, tackles me, only to be removed by the now wide-awake monk. I help move the orc to the infirmary, then leave the sanctuary to find some way to lose the irate dwarf, who still follows me. Whilst walking down the road to Malinor, you stumble upon an old man. His walking stick , looks weak and frail, and just as you are about to ask something, the stick breaks, and the man falls to the ground. Then I ask him the question I was going to ask before the walking stick snapped. If he is going my way, I help him with the bag.
