Matthew is slightly pale from working indoors but it’s not uncommon to see him with a tan due to his outside work as well (chopping wood, hunting, working on the house.) Matthew enjoys simple things but also has small forms of ambition. He wants the best for his brother Andrew Fereldas. They lived in Ager, after their parent’s death when Matthew was 10 and Andrew was 6 (due to the plague.) They then moved to the wilderness to hopefully survive on their own, due to the fact that they had no money and Matthew’s father taught him basic survival skill, and also taught him how to maintain a farm. Andrew learned how to explore, hunt and other survival skills from Matthew, but also picked up some survival skills from his travels in the wilderness. Matthew tends to always carry an axe with him, when he is around his home with his brother Andrew he may have a wide array of tools. Matthew only takes his sword on trips to the city and where he may deem that the area is not safe. Matthew has recently been taking a keen interest in moving to Arethor, Starting a family and making sure that his brother Andrew has a good life. Matthew like stated before is not a man who desires a lot. However he had one dream a long, long time ago. Before his parents died, Matthew’s father wanted to own his own business in Arethor. Andrew doesn’t remember this time as he was far too young, but the dream still burns strong in Matthews mind and heart. Matthew however wants to keep Andrew safe, keeping him from making a major decision soon, but due to Andrew’s somewhat risky nature, Matthew can see Andrew wanting to move into the city, becoming where they are today. Matthew follows his dreams of owning a business, in the name of his father, and maybe even becoming a man of power in the city? But this man’s dreams continue to be quite humble. Matthew tends to be untrusting since they’ve only had Andrew for the longest time. Matthew wants the best for his brother, he doesn’t care what he does, and he just wants the safety of his brother and himself but also just the best for him. Matthew will someday tell Andrew about his father more but until then, he is content just making sure they have enough to live by and to be comfortable. What are your characters ambitions?: Matthew’s ambitions are a bit scattered. Matthew wants and supports anything Andrew Fereldas wants and desires. However, Matthew’s strongest ambition is to live out his father’s dream of starting a business in Arethor. Matthew wants to be a merchant in Arethor however, he is perfectly content with Keeping Andrew safe and protected, and if he can achieve some glory and creating a name for the Fereldas’ well, then He will be more than happy to do it. We are brothers in real life so it definitely helps with the role playing of the bond. These questions should be answered in first person. Be detailed, not short. Upon entering the Mighty Human City of Arethor, you come across a shop-keeper calling out to sell his wares to passers-by. The shopkeeper is not a Human, he is a poor dwarf looking to make a living in a new city. What is your response? Matthew observes the dwarf in his shop for a while, seeing how he acts. Matthew walks forward and greets the dwarf. “Hello, do you have any tools that can help me? I’m looking to improve my home in the wilderness.” With this, Matthew smiles and keeps conversation light and happy. Matthew buys a few wares from his store because he realizes that the dwarf is like himself, just trying to make a living in a foreign city. Matthew uses this thought to think to himself as to how he is going to survive in the wilderness, especially with Andrew. Matthew thanks the dwarf after looking off into the distance for a while, more and more recently Matthew has been restless, the conversation continues with the dwarf because the dwarf knew that look all too well. The deep emotional conversation Matthew is capable of, leads him to walk away knowing one thing that makes him smile…. He has an ally in a city where he may have to move, a possibly essential resource. You’re wandering the Oren Road late at night, when a large Orc begins to threaten a nearby dwarf. There is no help nearby, and the situation looks like it will escalate into violence soon, what does your character do? (Hey, should Orc and Dwarf be capitalized since they are a race? I’m curious) Matthew walks the Oren Road, well covered due to the night’s cold air, but this relaxes Matthew, he enjoys the crispness of the cold air. Suddenly Matthew hears a bustle. Matthew hides behind a tree and watches what seems to be a Dwarf and a Orc having some sort of disagreement. Matthew draws his axe across his arm on top of his shoulder and across his shoulder r blades. Matthew walks over to the Orc stating boldly “Is there a problem here?” The Orc sees his axe, recognizes that its mainly used for chopping wood, then realizes that this man has been hardened by some sort of labor or violence. The Orc does not want to back off but the Dwarf already ran away while the brave Matthew challenged the Orc. The Orc decides to throw a punch at Matthew. Matthew twists the axe in a diagonal fashion, hilt facing the Orc’s wrist and deflects the blow. Matthew Readies himself for a confrontation, however the Orc realizes he may be underestimating this Human’s Abilities. The Orc stumbles away, suggesting he was drunk) and Matthew shakes his head and walks on to his home in the opposite direction, taking care to look back every now and then to see if the Orc had mustered any false courage to have another go at Matthew….. Or if he had friends…… Whilst walking down the road to Malinor, you stumble upon an old man. His walking stick , looks weak and frail, and just as you are about to ask something, the stick breaks, and the man falls to the ground. As he falls down, a bag of Minas falls to the ground, and splits open. As you watch the multiple coins spill out, you peer down at the defenceless man. What does your character do?: For the record its *defenseless* Matthew says “I am very sorry sir. Here, let me get these for you.” Matthew picks up the money and realizes there’s a lot of money in his hands. However he was taught a long time ago that he was a good soul, and his parents always wanted him to be, if he were to corrupt himself now, what hope was there for Andrew?! Matthew returns the money to the old man and notices that he doesn’t have another cane. Matthew helps the old man up and says “im very sorry, let me help you” Matthew finds a place for the old man to sit and then Matthew takes his axe and helps the old man walk on it back to his home. On the way Matthew speaks to the man, “Why are you out here by yourself sir? A man of your age should be traveling with someone?” Matthew learns the old man’s story and continues on to his home while receiving thanks from the kind old stranger. After Matthew brings the man home, Matthew starts urgently heading home for he remembers that Andrew is waiting for him. Matthew doesn’t like to keep Andrew waiting.

What are your characters ambitions?: Small, Matthew has a idea somewhat related to the “American dream/pursuit of happiness.” He just wants to work for his money and live a simple life. There is one exception, due to Matthew and Andrew’s past, If Andrew was ever harmed/hurt/killed, Matthew’s ambition would immediately change to kill whoever killed his brother, or his family (if he ever has one.) Besides that, Matthew’s ambition can also be swayed by Andrew Fereldas’ ambition. Although Matthew has some leadership qualities when needed, due to his parenting of his brother Andrew, he is in general not a leader unless he is called upon to do so. Matthew helps the shop-keeper by buying a few wares. Matthew doesn’t want to spend too much. Matthew doesn’t trust other people too much and doesn’t want to let loose too much of his money which he earns for himself and his brother Andrew, therefore Matthew doesn’t spend too much. Conversation with the Dwarf and others at the shop is not uncommon with Matthew so he engages in good conversation with the keeper and nearby people. If Matthew is by himself, he would most likely walk off and not get in the middle of this fight. It’s the wisest thing to do and he probably needs to get home to safety soon due to night time HOWEVER: If Matthew Is with his brother Andrew, Most likely Andrew would get involved and Matthew would lend words of wisdom to both parties as Andrew tries to calm them down, If things got out of hand, Matthew would get Andrew out of there as quickly as possible, hurting either dwarf or orc if they so laid a finger on him. If not the two would run away and there’s a good chance Matthew would Scold Andrew for it later, due to their bond, Matthew wouldn’t stay mad for long. Whilst walking down the road to Malinor, you stumble upon an old man. What does your character do?: For the record its *defenseless* Matthew would immediately help the old man gather his coins and ask the old man where he is staying, then Matthew would help the old man to his destination; Matthew would expect no payment in return. However a little “price” Matthew would desire is a little information on the old man, what was he doing and why did he have that money? And what were his professions and such.
