Scandinavian Confederation for a Brighter Future

The new flag and name were the first matters to be voted upon by the confederation's parliament law process. The three triangles are symbolic of the three nations that have now merged. They opted to name themselves after their Confederation styled goverment. They wanted a bright future, one for Scandinavia. The SCBF has now officially formed, a legitimate confederation approved by the people. It is marked by the capital being moved to Copenhagen, in Denmark. Sweden officially leaves the EU, and sends it's representatives to Copenhagen. All three nation's will retain their old goverment styles. However, the Confederation Parliament has been formed to go above them. Run by representatives of each member, they are given a surprising amount of power. Following the mistakes of past Confederations, they do not let the center grow weak. Almost like a Federal system, the newly named and founded Confederation Parliament wields hefty power. All three nation's agreed, and let the new law processing begin. For one, against typical Confederative ways, no nation can secede on it's own whim. The law process needed to do such a thing is artificially long and complex. It will sway any party from simply quitting. Denmark, Norway, and Sweden are enlightened countries. They are well aware that they must work together, must not quarrel to the point of stagnating.

Further to the point of centralizing, education is given to the hands of parliament. They would begin to mesh each nation's histories, blend culture. The youth would be taught of their strong cultural past, of Scandinavian roots. Military as well is merged, all three nation's having been weak. With this combined pool of resources, the Confederation put a serious army onto the stage. Sweden would run military operations and handling, the trade off being weaker in political and social matters.

The 1st Nordic Army is formed, comprising of all three nation's militaries. Their main task is being introduced to the new command structures and cultural differences. From there they are put into training, no stop in the end. Hoping to tap into the new flood of hope for the Confederation, the youth is encouraged to enlist or join the work sector. The 1st Nordic Army needs new recruits! Join today and reap the benefits, protect your homeland. The recruitment policy remains as all volunteer. (Pok Please)

Parliament would run the show now, though each Nation was a part of that influence. Their representatives would not betray their respective party/nation's wishes or interest. And almost unanimously those interest are consolidating and then growing. Tensions are light as the new goverment takes shape. Sweden, increasingly more conservative, is the smallest presence in parliament. They run the army, and are content to live like the aristocrats of old. Let others do the endless chatter and rhetoric. A far more liberal and socialist Norway and Denmark have taken the show. They elect to start to merge everyone's culture. With the exit of the EU, the currency of the three is varied. It is voted in and then enforced to use the new currency. The new nordic mark will be backed by Scandinavian banks. Each nation's monarchy is allowed, though not even ceremonial power is granted them. They will remain a faded imprint of each countries monarch past.

Finland is formally invited to the Scandinavian Confederation for a Brighter Future. It is hoped they would see how well the three nation's were forming. Finland would hopefully be tempted to join, or they would end up stuck between a rampant Russia and a growing Confederation. (Pok Please)

    Sweden

Change and stiff opposition against it is sweeping through Sweden. Parties are at each other's throats, arguing. But in reality Sweden is a far better off place then some. Across the globe the tension is beginning to rise. It's scary, especially for a small, diplomatic people. Some argues they were too soft, and are working on that. But until then, the reality is simple. This new EU, this Federal beast, is putting the fear right into the Riksdag politicians. So far Sweden abstains from implementing any of the new creed. Sweden remains how they've always been. It seems a very European power struggle has began to rear it's ugly head. French propaganda is kicking off, inspiring some. However people remain to their own opinions, follow their parties. No reply or words of encouragement are sent to France. It seems that for now Swedish politicians would sit on the fence, ignore both sides.

In actuality, Sweden is very far from just idling by. With the Centre-Right Parties failure to implement a part time draft, they lose some face. The opposition is able to pick up the slack. They realize the need for a higher rate of troops, demands are rising. But instead of issuing a draft, they still to all volunteer. Searching for the motivated soilders, the ones who want to fight. These troops will be put into long training cycles, not being in a particular need anywhere. After a long boot camp, they'll be outfitted and form entirely new Swedish regiments. The low intake of troops expected will hopefully not be too costly to outfit with elite gear. Slowly, both Swedish parties are recruiting a new and motivated army.

Time was passing by too fast, things have been progressing rapidly. Artur Carlsson and his coterie were meant to take things slow. But as they say, the world doesn't wait for you to catch up. Already Sweden's military was being improved. Unfortunately, still desperate for manpower, they made up for it in arms. The new Bumble Bees, assault helicopters, are finished on time. Their production begins immediately, and is charted to run smoothly. For now only basic prototypes and first models are available. The Swedish cavalry is assembled, and given their new steeds. They will begin training immediately, using the first models. They practice high altitude drops, and savage and fast landings. The Bee itself is armed to fight off other aircraft, and heavily armored to sustain ground fire. In the rear a full squad of troops and one light AFV can fit. It is meant to rush elite troops and light support vehicles into tactical positions. A perfect weapon for a nation that has to avoid attrition.

The UK is assured that the meeting of monarchs will proceed as planned. Their trade deal is accepted, though tariffs are placed to limit how much the UK could flood their market. Sweden did not quite want to flood their markets with anything. However Sweden will not stand by and let the centralized EU browbeat other nations into following it's agenda. That betrayed the heart of the European Union. For now however, all the EU will hear is a collective sigh from the Riksdag.

Denmark and Norway's proposition to take things a step farther is taken to heart. Sweden proposed the three establish a confederation, to pledge to work together in all things. The reasoning is that already partially integrated, they could form a more influential political front to the world. A more powerful front, especially to an increasingly more dangerous EU.  If the Scandinavian powers stuck together, merged an already merging system, they would prosper. To balance the weight of this offer, Sweden would elect to have a smaller amount of seats in a new parliament then the other two. It would be up to the new confederative parliament to vote in their name and body. Things would be planned, after the other two nations voted yes or no. Iceland and Finland are not invited, Sweden figuring they would not join. However the offer is their, if the other Scandinavian states see the sense to joining. Each nations would keep it's own goverment and identity, just be a part of a bigger whole. It would be up to how much power they give the confederate goverment, to decide who would truly rule. (Pok Please!)

    Sweden

The room was well lit, uncomfortably bright for some. It was hazy with cigar smoke. A few very select members have ever made it this far. Few have entered this room, heard the truth. Several men and women were seated around a table. The table was imposing, crescent shaped and black. Besides that nothing else was in the room. Artur Carlsson -prime minister of Sweden- is the source of the cigar smoke. And the power. He was by no means physically imposing. At the ripe age of sixty, Artur looked rather old. But he took it in stride, did not let it bother him. In fact he still looked good, in a warm grandfather way. Thats how they all looked up to him. The grandfather figure of a benign Sweden, shepherd of the flock. Alongside good old King Carl, the two are respected. But things were tense in Sweden, they always were. The ruling party of leftist had gradually been diminished. As immigration crisis continued, restrictions were needed. People blinded themselves to it, but a full 15% of Sweden's population was foreign born. And so led to the achingly slow but steady rise of the Centre-Right Party-(CRP/Alliance for Sweden).

Things were not radical though, at least not yet. In the Riksdag, seats are hotly contested for. A more conservative party, Alliance for Sweden, actually managed to get the majority. Only by a few seats, but it spoke volumes. However the Left was not about to let a fight go so easily. They were always campaigning, collecting support. Sweden's smaller parties have formed a minority coalition, merely trying to remain relevant. The CRP did were not stiff conservatives by any means. But many were, though they knew not to rattle their pens too furiously. They instead worked with the other parties, kept furthering Swedish glory. Through much fiery rhetoric and simple logic, the CRP passed a few laws. Immigration laws would begin to tighten. Swedish troopers not engaged in global actions would be called forth. On a volunteer basis, these troopers would patrol Sweden's borders. Besides the initial men needed, border patrol will receive extensive training and receive specialized equipment before being sent it. Another point was lowering the amount of money Sweden put back into her people. For now however it was staunchly blocked.

All of this was mere politics to the people in that bright room. Finishing his cigar, Artur put it in an ash tray. Still lazily trailing smoke, it gently smoldered. Sweden's politics were troubling, seemingly getting more complex and aggressive. But there were darker stains. Artur and this small gathering of politicians formed a elitist group. They were puppeteers, working on mutual agendas to further political goals. Some were Leftist, others part of the CRP. Artur himself being a CRP member was their first among equals. He was more centre then right, held the love of his people. But in reality he manipulated their perception, went his own way. After hours of discussion, concluded with cigars, their plan was ready. It would begin to be implemented on Sweden soon enough. Their first priority was to make sure a few key votes swung their way.

-Sweden's stance on the EU plan to have joint military was answered by Prime Minister Artur Carlsson.

"No, I say!" The old man said in his warm voice. "I mean no disrespect to the idea, or the planners behind it. But no. Like sticking to our own currency, some elements of our own cultures or government should remain..diverse. The EU is not like other alliances, not meant to kick in doors and have armies. We are better then that, we are European."

    -[!] U.N. - [Sweden] [!]

    [Yay]

-Sweden's government makes a majority vote. The topic is addressed to their commitment to the Nordic Council. A large majority voted to add more, to expand the ideas. Championed by the CRP, it was a appealing idea. They wished for other members of the Nordic Council to have 174 seats intead of 87. This would double the Council. It was hoped that more power would be allowed by all members to the Council. Sweden agreed to loose some of it's autonomy, alongside others if they agree, to allow a more centered group. Nothing drastic is proposed, just the beginnings of expanding a Council that could benefit them all. No huge designs like military, government, or economies is sent. Instead they focus on smaller things. Smuggling laws, water territory, resource rights, open borders. Sweden wanted it and her fellow Scandinavian sisters to take it a step at a time. (Mod Please)

-The U.K is contacted by Swedish Riksdag representatives. Though they still support the EU, Sweden had always had a independent attitude. They too had kept their own currency. No actual choice or vote would be made to leave the EU. Sweden was happy where she was, but wanted to also branch out. Swedish interest were mainly in establishing trade, and purchasing military hardware. It is proposed the two nation's monarchs meet in London for an official ceremony.

-The CRP begins to push for Sweden to return to a partial conscription. They argue in times like these it would be better to have a higher percentage of troops/reserves. Nothing severe is hoped for, just a gradual climb in men taken into the armed forces. (Mod please) besides that Sweden depends on a highly motivated and equipped but under strength army. Their hoped edge is to increase focus on mechanized infantry. A new /type of aircraft/ helicopter. It's primarily build will be heavily armored in the front and big. Each Bumble Bee will be armed with modern weapons mainly of anti-air. Some guns and missiles will also be implemented for ground targets. Their main purpose however will be to carry troopers. Equipped with parachutes for high deployment, squads ride in the rear. It is hoped a squad of troopers and a small AFV could fit int he rear. They're called Bumble Bees due to their tradeoffs. Though armored well and able to transport/pack a bite, these helicopters would be less maneuverable. It is hoped air superiority can negate that. ((7 pages))

Demonstrate Understanding of Nation (Bio/Facts/Info): Taking roots from Germanic settlers, forming the first ancient Scandinavian tribes. As time progressed they became some of the most renown vikings. Growing into an Empire, the Swedish Empire was a baltic power. But as time kept moving on it's path, territory was gradually lost. The final blow was losing Finland, to the Russians. As present day continues, King and parliament make up the goverment. It seemed that peace was their way, the army was small. Conscription was in the recent past. Nevertheless ended the army is volunteer only.

  5. Roth chewed through his meal content, it was better then usual prison fare. He'd spent some time in cells, anyone of his profession has. But this prison topped it all. It had it's own kitchen, fully staffed! Good thing the King decided not to kill us right off the bat. I could get used to this place! Roth thought to himself. He idly watched the gathered group of rapscallions around him. I'm the only damn human here, Roth realized. It made him feel uncomfortable, alone. He'd have to watch carefully, see who is worth it and who is not. Some of them might be able to watch his back. Others.... Well others looked better suited for the gallows. He was a rouge! a thief! damnit. Up until his untimely betrayal, Roth ran in high circles of the lowest of the low. Now he was sharing his meals with a bunch of up jumped  prickly races. Determined to hide his feelings, Roth finishes his meal and sighs.

Getting up, Roth stretches his long limbs. Rubbing his stomach, he goes up to the chef. Giving him his most winning smile and a wink, Roth deposits his stuff.

"Keep up this good cooking, and you just may find yourself a witty husband! It'll keep it interesting, add spice to things that aren't food."

Getting slapped by a wooden spoon for his efforts, Roth sighs once more. Deliberately putting himself behind the half crystal half human thing, Roth takes a moment to have a view. Not half bad, for half a human. He idly thinks. Better a half human than not at all I suppose. Tapping her shoulder, Roth gives his winning smile as she turns around.

"Hello there miss, pleasure to be behind ya! As the only human here, I welcome you on the behalf of our race! Well should I say I half welcome you..... you're obviously not fully human. Stick around me and I can teach you the other half!" Grinning at his own joke, Roth ignores whatever she has to say, and idly wonders what this jail will bring......

  6. Name: Ciaphias Roth

    Age: Twenty

    Gender: Male

    Race: Human

(Human, Orc, Dwarf, Drakkar (dragon/lizard man), Enkraeni (tree people), Troll, Crystal Elf, Blood Elf, Skarprack (bug people), Rmar (stone people))

Notable traits & appearance (no real equipment, mind you): Tall for his race, Roth stands at six feet. Wiry, he is underweight and strung out. But that would not do to underestimate him, he is strong. Gaunt faced, and solemn, Roth keeps to himself. He's notable for trying to stick to his moral compass, not necessarily a good thing.

Background Story: Roth has spent eighteen years of his life as a simple farmer in the suburbs around Gardoar. His mother died giving birth to him, leaving his father to raise him. Life was simple and good, as any farmer's life can be. But as the years progressed Roth's rogue personality developed. He would always like to have a bit of fun, be it tipping a cow or sneaking into a croft to lay in the hay. Charming and witty, his harmless charades may annoy but not anger his neighbors. As he reached nineteen Roth began to frequent the capital. Eventually his actions brought him to run in with a local city gang. They would do boyish things, break windows, steal items, and such. But as a year went by the gang of street boys and urchins grew. Many were hauled away by city watch, others were betrayed. Through all this Roth survived, and grew. Things got serious, breaking into houses, stealing horses, petty theft. Thing were getting good, Roth had left his father at twenty. Living in the capital the thief prospered. Having a small room bought in a tavern, the city was open to him. Things were going to get good... (Would it be possible to have Ciaphias have necromancer talents? Maybe he would have to have it awaken in him, and not really be used for evil.)

Reason for imprisonment: As Roth and the gang grew, so too did their greed. Eventually the highest members plotted for one of the best takes of their life. The armies have been mustering for years, to face the growing necromancer threat. All soilders needed some form of pay, especially the elites. With the demand for troops so high in the collapsing fronts, convoys this close to the capital were less guarded. The gang would dress as common brigands, and try for the gold in those chest. Waiting in the woods near the capital, Roth and other compatriots waited. As expected only a small column of troops marched alongside two carts. Crossbows twanged, and a few men dropped. Running from cover, the gang stormed the troops. They held to the last, but were ultimately outnumbered and killed. Most of the gang however was dead or wounded, they had to act fast. Consolidating all the gold, the leader and his top cronies hiked onto the carts. As Roth and some of the lower tier members made for the carts, they were halted. The leader has his crossbow pointed straight at Roth. Smiling, they all heard the thundering gallop of an incoming solider patrol. "Some one has to take the blame, sorry lads" Dashing away in the carts, they kept Roth and his men frozen in place. It was that or be shot. The cavalry came in behind them, surrounding the gang members. "Well well well, what do we have here? Caught a few brigands reveling in their loot. Kill them, but spare that one" The sergeant said pointing to Roth.

    Nation Name: Shadik Republic

    Place on Map:  4NXquvQ.jpg?1

Government and Economy Type:  Theocratic Autocracy/Feudal-Industrial

    Leader: Obodiah

    Population(No more than 25m): twenty-five million

Military: Mandatory Conscription in times of war, possible numbers roughly estimated at eight million or more.

Technology(1920 tech of some country): Russia

    Culture: Russian

History: The Shadik Republic is a large and sprawling empire. Originally settlers came from the mountains and icy waste of the north. Integrating but dominating the native steppe nomads, an uneasy peace formed. That was the very beginning of the republic. For hundreds of years after, the Empire would grow and solidify. The Ruling class was comprised of nobles descending from the  ancient northern raiders. They're breed holds the power, and lords it over the massive amount of minorities. Through fear and a robust military, peace is kept. The Empire is massive, and well populated. However this is also a problem, as secessionist tendencies are high. The northern elite can only tap the top of a vast pool of resources. Inefficient and corruption plague the Empire. However, it still stands strong. From the northern lords perching in their icy castles, to the desert nomad warriors, Shadik remains divided but strong. A strong hand is needed, a godly man to rule the masses. Obodiah is the most current Defender of the Faith. It is the highest title in Shadik, and brings absolute power. It is through the Defender that the governing body of nobles answer to. Armies march at his command, and temples are built on a whim. Shadik religion is highly treasured, and the peasants are the most devout. The two biggest threats to Shadik are from within, and their ancient enemy.. the Mangevic Empire

Extra Information: Bananas! The Shadik Empire's main strength relies in it's army and faith. Industrialization came late to Shadik, most peasants, desert nomad warriors, city dwellers, and steppe nomads living in poverty. It is only truly the northern nobles descending from raiding caste who hold money. However resources are bountiful, if unused. The Army is diverse but in a good way, many different elements displaying their talents. Primarily northern nobles hold officer commissions.

  8. The Lost Vault

We have been wondering for years now, always in fear. Once we were from Nevada but no more. Lucky enough to have a vault called home, we took shelter. Those were the best years, in the comforts of our vault. But fear ran through, uncertainty of the outside world. All these fears were inflamed when the power started to fail. There just wasn't enough experienced people left, we were all farmers. Eking out the last of the Vault's life, we cowered and argued. Some wanted to remain, to keep trying. Others, like myself, argued that it was god's sign to leave. Months passed, as the situation for more and more dire. Eventually the split ran too deep, tempers too hot. My followers and I, we took matters into our own hands. With pistol and baton, we did what we had to. Those who would chose to remain, would remain with no supplies. Gathering up everything we could, the Vaults population left.

Our party stopped at the large gate, hesitant. As their new leader, I would be the first to enter the outer world. What would this bring us? Did some great gift lay outside? Our home is rotting, and us with it. It's time to leave, to find a new land to call ours. Taking a deep breath, I pushed the rusted gate open. The light was blinding, but I walked into it. My people came behind, taking heart from my actions. Those were the worst times, relearning the ravaged earth. We would not settle amidst the filth, we would keep going. Eventually things got better, we became more experienced. My people were made for this, not to rot in some dismal vault. As the month progressed, we became efficient at traveling the scarred lands. Our scouts and APC's were better armed, we could raid or defend well.

After a while of wandering, we heard hints of a sacred place. Catching it off of rich merchants, wanderers like us, or other sorts of people. Some great vault is said to exist. It was made to shelter whole states, whole peoples. The idea spread amongst my people. Though we were now wanderers, settling down was tempting. For now though all we hear is rumors and falsities.

However, my people and I have convened, to make an important situation. We would start to head north. This is where I am now, and every day hence is still a mystery. The majority of us lost souls are in the main convoy. Shepherded by outriders, they are the heart. The head is our APC'S and scouts, their mission was the most important. Behind came some soilders, men who were once security in the vault. From now on our vanguard will raid smaller parties, to gather supplies. If a small village is found, it will be surrounded by our entire force. From there we will acquire supplies peacefully, or over the population's corpses. We will also scout farther away from our main column. We hope to find anything of use. (Mod response please)

In our roughly north-east travels, we begin to hear rumors of a larger faction. The Outcast as they call themselves, their reputation is spreading. For now my people will skirt around their territory, stealthily. Trying to measure their strength, scouts dressed as wastelanders are sent into their lands. They will try to find out what they can of the Outcast. At the same time I dispatch a messenger with an escort. It is hoped the excitement of the messenger will allow the scouts to slip in.  They will treat with the Outcast, claiming to be a part of a medium sized merchant convoy. The Outcast may take note of their uniforms, pistols, and security batons. My messenger will ask after supplies, try to chat them up and maybe get a good deal. (Mod/Player response please)

    Nation Name: The Shire

    Leader Name: William Bull

    Government Type: Monarchy

Region you'd like to start (central Persia, north Ireland etc): Kent/London region

    Culture (Irish, French, etc): English

    What's my favorite color: MMN

Nation Backstory (a nice paragraph or two.): After the fall of society, things began to deteriorate fast. Thankfully however, the people of England are made of sterner stuff. Though most of London has died off, the yeomen, the craftsmen, the carpenters, the merchants, they all survived. Setting up where normal life once lived is now the Shire. Led by an influential former politician, William Bull assumed the mantle of Monarch. Based around him is a parliament, shaped after memory of the old one. The Shire is farming country, their biggest production. Yeomen peasantry is the Shire's backbone, though Lords rule over them again.

The Shire's main goal is to survive, and dominate the British isle. They are mostly peasants and lords, their staple weapons is the English longbow. The people are not hostile though, the borders are open. An agricultural monarchy, the river, farm, and trade is everything. House Bull however is more aggressive, they seek to expand the Shire. Tax collectors do out their will, more secret police then actual taxmen.

  11. Reaction Post (Fighting France)

The raiders and scouts quietly watch the Vichy troops reposition. Word is sent back as fast as possible to General Leclerc. It seems the Vichy French are fortifying, to wait would be to let them actually fortify. In response, Leclerc hastily assembles an HQ. The raiders are given another thousand men, to step it up. They begin to harass the Vichy French troops as they start to fortify. From there, the FFF armies across the borders are called upon. A full hundred thousand men, most of them successfully evaded Vichy French detection. Now as the Vichy forces are settling down, beginning to fortify, they are assaulted. Across the border, forces they did not know where there are moving out. The goal was to hit Vichy France in multiple points before they could fortify. They have the element of surprise, which would go a long way. Artillery and planes would be held back. They would rapidly shuffle to points of the hardest fighting. Leclerc's tank companies steam forward. They will hit in the center of Vichy lines, accompanied by infantry support. The two hundred and fifty thousand recruits in training are prepared for deployment. They are armed with modern equipment, and have been training for the past year. They would hold their own, if they are needed.

    Fighting France

"So Mr.Roosevelt wants us to 'step' actions up, non?" de Gaulle is heard to remark to his aide. When that particular telegram reached Bon Voyage, the exile government was angered. But de Gaulle remained calm, he walked amongst his aides. A joke there, a piece of advice there, he calmed his staff. As they formed a circle around him, waiting, Charles grinned.

"These Americans are not even in the war, yet they tell us what to do? I suppose they do not understand the nature of this war. Do not call the Americans demons for this, they are still our allies. This a a hunt, one of patience and timing. The Americans have everything, they would solve the problem with numbers. We have much more subtle tools, with a reach farther then many may know... However, I do agree with the spirit of the message. The Axis powers are advancing, heads held proud. They already think this war is as good as done. But it if far from over! The Fight is far from over! For months we have been growing, consolidating. Now it is time to show the Axis what France can do. From this day on the fight will never stop, until we are victorious. We shall be Fighting France, being free is already our very nature. Let the Americans learn what a fighting Frenchmen can do!"

This speech is not publicized, but it went down in the mind of every man there. The Fighting France government is revitalized. Their infamous parties double, and many go off to fight. The French Resistance sends word to de Gaulle that they are ready. But he has one task to ask of them, before they go ahead....

French Resistance delegates have long since fled to the U.S. From there they tried to gather any form of help they could. Over the months their contacts grew, their use more valuable. Resistance high command personally gives orders to a Resistance member in NYC. A team is assembled, of the resistance member and some hired French mercenaries. They will wait for a dark night, and go to the Statue of Liberty. They will either take the guards by surprise and knock them unconscious, or hold them at gun point. From there a team will bring crates of things that looked like dynamite. After about an hour, the team makes itself scarce before cops arrive. As NYC stirs and thinks a terrorist strike just happened, the crates go off in the statue. Fire works, hundreds of them. They shoot into the air, proud red white and blue colors. The fireworks illuminate a French flag pegged to the torch. In French across it is "Remember the Revolution".

    -

After this gaudy show, the real fight starts. French Resistance cells across Germany start operations. No large risings or revolts occur. Instead they quietly try to sabotage key German positions. Some bold ones will attack officers, assault patrols. For the main part however they seek to destroy vital things. They cut pole lines, sabotage rail tracks, and other terrorist acts. The goal was to de-rail the german supply lines, and force them to tie troops up in France.

The Fighting France navy opted to stay and guard the Gibraltar straight. As the Brits went to fight Italy, the French stayed put. They begin to blockade Spain, cutting off any ships bound for it. Ten more warships are sent from Africa to strengthen the blockade. The French submarines wait for Spain's armies to load up onto the ships. As the ships returning to Spain hit deep water, they are attacked. Submarines lead the strike, targeting Spain's escort ships first. From there three French warships guarding the straight will engage. Their goal was to sink the troops in their transports. French Resistance members, British Commandos, Catalonian rebels, and Navarre hills men set up in the Pyrenees. They will harass Spanish supply lines. The goal was to harass both their sea and land routes.  (Mod for battle outcome)

In Africa, France continues to raid Vichy France land. Their skirmishing force is small, aiming to take out water and oil supplies. The majority of the army remains in their own land. The Fighting French army is spaced out around the border, hidden away in camouflaged camps. The bulk of the new army still remains at training. For the past few months that's all they've been doing, and it shows.

  13. Mod Post

Some nations are starting to reorganize their infrastructure, army, economy, and other things. Some key examples would be Italy, Turkey, Romania, and the Soviet Union. Such things will take time however. Nations like these will need to keep at it, to succeed. If their armies are disorganized, their effort is only the beginning. It was like that for a reason, inefficient and outdated. There is hope on the horizon, but not for now. (Nations who started with disorganized armies, economies, etc. need to keep developing. Sufficient time has not passed to make their efforts complete.)

    War in China

Japan's efforts to suppress the populace brutally seem to be working for now. The long since taken provinces have begun to settle down. Their only other choice as to die. Newly taken areas however are a hot-bed of guerrilla activity. The spread of Chinese propaganda is working, inspiring some. Chinese peasants in the north are slowly rallying to the communist cause. As the Japanese settle into their northern defensive front, their supply lines are harassed. It shows that some do not fear their revenge. Nationalist rebels have great success, dodging the frequent Japanese air patrols. They are disrupting Japanese supply and reinforcement routes. Their spy network also begins to take root. However, the Japanese air offensive is successful. As the skies darkened, their initial assault killed hundreds of Nationalist. The Chinese army is slowly pushed back, deeper into the heartland. However to keep pushing with this assault will mean stretching supply lines already under stress. The use of so many planes in one are will mean Japan has to bring in a constant supply of oil. Nationalist spies bring map information back of oil depots and Japanese garrisons. In the process however one is caught, and the Japanese are aware of some sort of spy group.

    War in Africa

The British fleet accompanied by a contingent of Free French ships make good time. They make it to the straight, where there is slight resistance. From there they can either shell Spain and control the straight, or continue on to fight the Italians. Assuming they keep going, the British navy will beat the ships sent to engage them. The Italians naval harassment strategy however shows some success. They can draw off some British ships, lessening naval patrols. However after Italy pulls it's fleet to harbor, England wins the seas. Italy's four hundred thousand troops are effectively cut off from the main land. Though they can try to smuggle supplies at night, it's not enough to supply them all. It will be hard to garrison that many men in their towns and coastal cities. The British fleet traveling through the Suez comes late to the initial fight. After they add their numbers to the fleet however, Italy's supply line is barely a trickle. Spain's armies sent to Morocco make it before the British fleets arrive. However they now face the same problem as the Italians.

    War in Russia

The Finnish/German attack is finally set into motion. Waiting to arm all the Finnish troops took some time. Maneuvering the armies into position also took more time. It was difficult to move all the Finns secretly through the swampy forest. The Germans start the assault, catching the Soviet's eye. However they are not used to this climate, and the advance stalls. Soviets gain the time they need to entrench against the Germans. The Germans continue to throw themselves at the Soviets, making slight gains. As the fight grinds into the night, Germans fall back. Their front line was depleted, reserves needed to move up front. The Finns, unaware of Germany pulling back, continue through the countryside. Though they were severely delayed, they did manage to arrive in stealth. They take the soviets unawares, and a large battle ensues. Spread out through swamps and forest, the two sides duel. Small pockets of leaderless men were everywhere, shooting at anything that moved. The Finns were not like the Germans, they had no imperial army. However their spirit to win back their homeland drives them. The Soviets begin to pull back, but it is not a rout. They fight for every mile, but nevertheless they are retreating. The Finns have managed to dislodge the Soviets by themselves. Now the choice for the wounded Axis armies was to recover or keep up the assault.

Soviet Bessarabia is no citadel, but it is not lightly manned. Soviets have long been stationed on this front, the Balkans is always prized. The Romanians are met with infantry on the other side of the river. Though they have started reorganizing their army, this fight shows the cracks. Officers were killed, and order began to break down. The Soviets though outnumbered see the opportunity and advance. Romanian armies could possibly be driven back into the river. But then Stalin's orders come in. The army stops, and then fully turns around. Soviets pour out of Ukraine, in fact all of the western front. They entrench deep into Russian territory, readying themselves. Tatar militias and the Soviet army in Crimea refuse the orders. They will continue to fight, and are heavily fortified. All Axis forces advancing into Russia will find the border largely undefended. The further they advance however, the more their supply lines will be harassed. Advance too far, and they will meet the fortifying Red army....

Stalin's immense redirection of manpower into the German assault shows success. Although they were now losing the western front to the various Axis armies, Germany's advance slows. Germans keep pushing on however, taking ground. More and more Soviets arrive daily, and are thrown into the lines. Germany will have to make the choice, advance into the teeth of the Red army, or something else.

  14. Resistance.jpg

    La Résistance

Daniel Mayer fought the itch to look behind him. A wrong look these days could mean death. Or worse some argued, capture. Taking a final drag of his cigarette, he flicks it into the street. Nodding to a passing column of Germans, Daniel keeps going. Paris was a large city, and had many different flavors. The particular flavor of this district was foul however. Trash lined the cobbled streets, living trash also called this street home. Before the war, Mayer could of entered any of these houses and been welcomed. Windows would be wide open, children would be running around. A Father and son playing catch here. A pair of lovers strolling down the street. Sadly that was all gone. The Germans had either moved or killed everyone here. After some idiots calling themselves resistance fighters shot up a bar full of drunk German officers. They were of the neighborhood, and were able to spirit away. However the families could not take wing and fly off with their houses. They were unable to soar free, and were punished.

It was idiot moves like that which infuriated Mr. Mayer. He was far more careful, his skin was worth something. He could appreciate the spirit of any resistance fighter. That however did not justify a stupid action. When the armistice was first signed, everyone was shocked. It seemed the Germans were invincible, Hitler's legions of steel. Those were the darkest times, when they first fell. A flickering candle in tempest. The men and women who first stood up, they meant something. If these demons could not be beaten, they'd find a way. It was better to die resisting, rather then kneeling.

Interrupted in his train of thoughts, Daniel reaches his destination. He was deep in the streets of old Paris. You could still find Roman artifacts, even columns. It was a rather lawless place, and dangerous. Thankfully it deterred German patrols. They would only risk it in large and well armed numbers. Also within these slums is the heart of Le Populaire. A socialist newspaper, one of the most popular. From here the resistance could publish news and propaganda. It was also from here that Mr. Mayer led his cell. From all walks of the city, his was an odd bunch. Though most were socialist, many were also not. Daniel was not one to discriminate, he needs every tool he can get.

Later that day large bundles pamphlets are sent out from the old district. Propoganda spreads through Paris. Most of it in the time old French manner. La Populaire portrays a blend of logic and romanticism of resisting occupation. No distinct Resistance group is mentioned, merely the act of resisting. Besides this new spread of propaganda, the resistance host a meeting.

Daniel Mayer is just one of many influential figures at the meeting. Using no real names, they met in the warrens of the old city. Organization was lacking, and was a serious problem. For now though, all they could do is grow. The members of the resistance agree on focusing on organizing their own cells. From there they would begin to work on a wider net work. They would act independently, and have no knowledge of other cell's day to day doings. One act they do work together however is to form a commando team. Titled Les Commandos, they would be each Cell's best men. Most of the resistance is not militarily trained. They were working on that to, however. For now they would need small teams of specialist.

With the plans of their resistance started, other matters are settled on. A team of resistance members are smuggled through France to the Pyrenees. From there they have a long trek through the mountains. Their eventual destination will be Catalonia. The French resistance will begin talking to Catalan independence factions. They hope to set up a deal. They ask that Catalan rises up when the time is right. In return Free France and the resistance will provide aid. They will smuggle in modern weapons and officers for the Catalans.  The same deal is offered to Navarre, another independent leaning province. De Gaulle and his government  promises France will recognize their sovereignty after the war. They will convince the Allied nations to do the same. A true communist, known by Lenin also goes with them. He will travel the countryside, to seek out communist. Many are dead or gone, but many also are in hiding. He begins to plan a communist rising, as secretly as possible. [Mod please]

    Free France

Bon Voyage is a large and flamboyant hotel in the heart of London. Ran by a married French couple, it looked the part. After de Gaulle started the whole operations, a HQ was needed. The couple donated the whole hotel to de Gaulle and his command staff. From this hotel, the  Free French Government would run their entire operations. Many notable figures would stop in, Churchill himself pays frequent visits. The hotel and the younger Free French are becoming widely known for their party appetite. It was in one of the suites that on this very moment the future of France is planned..

Ringed around an oval table were the heroes of a free France. Charles De Gaulle himself was there, idly tapping a beat on the table. Surrounding him were various lower officers, government officials, and colonial governors. All the higher up generals and their one admiral are on the many fronts. Charles is forced to work with largely inexperienced and young Free Frenchmen. However this could prove all well and good, the youth adapt fast. After the colonial successes of their first year in the war, spirits were raising. With every radio broadcast came more recruits, from all sorts of nationalities. Recruits are desperately needed, as the Free French army is spread thin. Almost completely an all volunteer army, the Free French Forces (FFF) are highly motivated. The majority of their army is in Africa, awaiting orders. The navy has long been gathering in the coastal ports of Free French Ports, awaiting orders.

After days of careful planning, de Gaulle and his government have formed their next step. It would be tough to manage every theater, but de Gaulle trust his field generals. In Africa, Leclerc is posted. The darling of the FFF, Leclerc is a young and genius military commander. He has already been distinguished for his service before the war. Now Leclerc is really in his element, a total and difficult war. He receives a packet from de Gaulle, detailing what he wants. It will be up to Leclerc to handle the specifics. Tens of thousands of colonial troops have volunteered to protect their motherland. They were the majority of the FFF for now, a highly spirited group. Realizing this will be a long and deadly war, Leclerc makes a vital choice. The majority of the fresh volunteers and the beginning of the conscripts are kept in friendly territory. British officers are loaned, and they begin to train the force. They won't be sent forward for some time, until they are up to modern infantry standards. Every FFF officer is needed, hence the Brits, and they are sent north. The majority of the veteran FFF begin to launch large raids into Vichy West Africa. Their main goal was not to conquer, but to force Vichy to tie up troops there. Behind these a large contingent of trained volunteers set up camps. Their tents are camouflaged, no lights are allowed at night, and extra forms of stealth precautions are taken. Over a dozen camps are hidden away, behind the front lines with West Africa. A few may be discovered, but it would be hard to tell how large of a force is hidden away. The last command of Leclerc is to send five thousand conscripts to Egypt, to bolster the British garrison.

In the Middle East, a policy of holding and consolidating is much the same. Primarily the operations in the Middle East is under British direction. The FFF would provide support, and garrison. In Syria however, de Gaulle himself makes a direct order. Broadcasted to the world, but addressed to Hitler, de Gaulle makes an ultimatum.

"Across the world me and the true French government fight on. Our colonies are with us, the children of a great mother. They are not disheveled conscripts, but seasoned volunteers. All this you will find out soon, I'm sure. However, the Third Reich is predictable, and not worth fighting. On some fronts that is. French Syria is contested, your misguided Vichy puppet doing the work. You are the real enemy, not my brothers. Thus, I am delivering this ultimatum to you. Call off Axis forces in Syria, give up on your futile grab for oil. If you do not meet these demands, I will begin to order the destruction of primary oil fields in Syria. French birds tell me interesting things, one of them being a hunger for oil. These resources are valuable, but not good enough to let fall into Axis hands. We will rig everything for destruction, we will infiltrate your crews, and sabotage it all. We will send desert raiders in for quick strikes, to torch everything. Whatever you do, we will be there with a torch in hand. So I state again, call off Axis forces in Syria, or face starvation of the worst kind"

As the British navy sails to fight the Italians, a contingent of the Free French Navy joins them. Ten warships, and three submarines make up the task force. They will support the flanking push against the Italians. However de Gaulle suggest to the Brits that they halt the Spanish invasion of Morocco first. Their navy could not beat the combined Ally might. After that the Italians would be lacking a naval ally, and easy to pick off. The Spanish army would then be stranded in Morocco, useless.

In Asia, things are far more quiet. The FFF has no intention of an open war with Japan, they merely want to keep to their islands. French Polynesia is this theaters HQ. It is there the colonial volunteers are sent for extensive training under British officers. In the enclave in National China, nothing special is planned. They instead offer a deal to the nationalist. Free France offers to provide the blue prints and skilled overseers to prop up modern military factories. They would help the nationalist make modern French weapons and tanks. In return, Free France request a 1/3 of all produced military hardware in said factories. In Indochina, the resistance slowly grows. They do nothing bold to catch the eye of Vichy France, they merely being to become better organized. Troops are stationed and trained in the depths of cave systems and jungles. They will bide their time.

The French Resistance in mainland France also follows a stealth policy. They will do nothing against the Germans, besides collecting information. The resistance cells will begin to grow and strengthen. They will consolidate and expand before taking any real actions.

    Tear

The people of Tear lined the docks, cheering off the ship. Lightly crewed, the ships crew was busy getting ready. Their voyage would be tough, a certainty. But they knew the importance of their task, get word to the Empire. The people of the city and merchant council were still watching as disaster struck. The ship was lost, smashed to tinder. As the bodies began to float back to shore. Everyone remained still however, for this meant more then just death. They were cut off from the Empire, for good. Unless they could build a better ship, they're on their own. An emergency council is convened, and the entire pollution turns up. As the different factions prepare their case, Lan and his Imperials remain silent.

Brutus strode into the impromptu council chamber, an Inn's serving room. Already everyone was arguing, accusing. It seemed the majority wanted to just be done with the Empire, forge ahead. Others were more reluctant, or wanted power for themselves.  Brutus's appearance quieted them some, but tempers flared again. Hours passed, but some ground had been gained. Everyone agreed that power would not rest in one man. However Brutus made his first proposal. As everyone stopped talking to listen, Brutus wove a tale. Talking about the glory of the Empire, how a strong leader could lead to glory. How an army backed by one true power was a far deadlier force. Knowing this wouldn't completely work, he gives ground. Instead he proposes that he become Prince of Tear. Not a king or Emperor, for that would cause certain war with the Empire. Beneath the Prince but also above would be the council. Brutus told it all true, and let the council decide.

Days later, the government of Tear is planned, decided, and then formed. Grabbing power at the top (though with many concessions) is Brutus. Prince of Tear, he was the figurehead for his people. The Prince would lead the armies and fleets, would inspire his troops. However after that comes the high council. Composed of mainly merchants and nobles, they were the main body of Tear government. They ruled over the trade and expansion of Tear. Their job was to govern and administer the people, to decide law and do justice. Both Prince and Council worked together, and could also block each other.  For now the government would work, relation between the prince and high council good.

To deal with Lan and his die hard Imperials, Prince Brutus meets them personally. He assures them this is necessity, with the Empire cut off from them. They must become a sovereign power, to deal with the various ways of death on this isle. But he knows Lan and the others still had hope. This was the reason for the Prince, they would organize and wait. For now they were their own power, they had to be. But if the Empire ever came back, Tear would bend the knee. So he gives the Imperials a choice. They could either try another ship to Tamriel, stay in Tear, or go on an expedition north. None take the offer of a ship, and most see the reality of their situation. Lan agrees to go north, and takes twenty five good Imperial troops. They would go as far north as the river goes or their supplies allow. They will take off in Spring, after the winter ends.

Time and dates have soon lost it's meaning to the people of Tear. All they knew for now was what was in front of them. The city of Tear was coming together. Thanks to the lumber coming downriver, the city could grow. Walls are put off, the resources needed to house a thousand or so people. The merchant council was smart, and introduced structure. The colony did not just spring up, it was planned. The heart of the city is the council grounds. No building has yet been started in the field. Around that were four main lanes. One lead to the growing docks, the other to the cities limits. Shops, inns, brothels, hawkers, they all gathered on the main lanes. They were the centers of commerce, social gathering, and public events. Sprouting from these main lanes are the side roads. This is the true heart of the city, where the people live. Most houses were a story or two tall, with lumber still scarce. The style of architecture was still Imperial, but had distinct differences. More emphasis is put on the front porches, and windows. Many porches boasted a picturesque garden, or seats. The windows are oval, making the buildings look like ships springing from the ground. This new fascination of ship like buildings is soon coined Oceanic. Already the powerful merchant councilmen were pulling strings to make large manors.

Spreading out from this controlled growth of a city is the suburbs. Their style is not distinct, merely cheap and easy to build huts. This population is the true core of the colony. The workers, the mercenaries, all the jobs that were needed but viewed with distaste. The streets were less lively (though still planned), mainly just enough room for people to move. The people here were not poor or the low caste however. Every man or women in the colony was pained by the merchants, they had a job to do. Though the streets are quiet, the people are not lethargic. Pride is taken in the industrious attitude of the whole colony. These people were here to build and settle, start a new and bustling world. They would not just sink back into merely living and getting by. Tear would be a grand city, positioned where river meats ocean.

The river itself was proving as valuable as it's salty cousin. At the changing of the tides, the river's current would change. This enabled larger ships to travel a small distance up-river into tear's safer anchorage. It also meant light ships could get a head start on going upriver. Riding the tide for as long as possible, before resorting to oar or sail. The ships that went far up-river were mainly for the growing lumber camp. Instead of clumsily floating logs down river, a system is set. The lumber will be shipped to the growing outpost on the river. From there it will be processed then sent south to Tear by ship. The only to go even further then this are the soilders. Though the scouts brought no troubling reports, they would be vigilant. Farms are being started all up and down the river north of Tear. With the growth of farmland, the merchant council acts. Soldiers are sent throughout their territory, to garrison small post. This way they could react at the scene fast. It would make it easier then assembling a force after hearing word.

Things were settling, but time was still needed for all the roles to be felt out. For now the power was in Brutus and the merchant council. No official government is formed, but they are in charge. But with people growing more comfortable in their new city, they act. Loudest among them is the officer of the Imperial troop contingent. His name was Lan, a grizzled veteran of fifty years. He had two concerns, the well-being of the Empire, and of his men. He was sent to accompany Brutus with one hundred of his best men. They were there to help Brutus establish a new Imperial foothold. Secretly they were also there to influence events, naturally. Though not concerned yet, Lan wanted to keep a tight hold on order. So he asks Brutus personally to send word back to Cyrodiil. He feared the merchant council wanted power, away from the Empire. But by meeting Brutus, he implied a few things. Brutus knew his position, the entire colonie's position, is unstable. Tear was not ready yet to be independent, it was simple. And so their sturdiest cog is chosen. Accompanied by a light escort, they would brave the seas again. The ships will be lightly crewed, but well supplied. Their mission was simple, to bring a message back to the empire. A personal report from Brutus, he would say Tear has been established in the name of the Empire. He would request that the Empire send back some form of help, whatever it be. The goal was to prove their loyalty, and maybe receive some added help.

    How successful Tear's growth is

  22. Brutus sighed wearily, letting the tension of the voyage drain. His hand were white, from gripping the ship's railing so hard. They had come so far, only for it all to be dashed on the rocks. The storms surrounding this isle were something else, not right. But the council's preparations shone through. The ships and the men crewing them were quality. It had all been so long ago, back in Tamriel. Brutus had known something was coming, though not exactly what. Trade was shriveling up, as it always did when war beckons. Through his eyes-and-ears, rumors of this new land surfaced. And so his choice had been made. True, he was a rich man, but this venture was no small fish. Brutus had been forced to form a group. A very select group, but still a group. Several merchants had bought in, adding their influence and resources. Alongside them were several other notable leaders.

So he was first among equals, but it all didn't matter anymore. They had arrived, the promise land was right there. Ever vigilant, the flotilla's light ships moved forward. Where they had arrived, a river appeared to join the ocean. Not risking to explore more, the rest of the group moved in. It had all seemed so long ago, those first days. As planned, the large cogs containing the supplies are emptied. They themselves were then torn apart for lumber. The lighter vessels, some cogs, and the warships all remained intact. And thus the capital had been founded. The people started calling it Tear, as it seemed the river was weeping. Unlike other colonist, this group all remained in the capital. Besides various outpost, the city was all there was. But it was a big city, and growing fast. The whole population lived there, adding to the cities value.

This whole venture was both similar and unlike other colonies. Brutus and the council looked at it with logic. Every person was skilled in some way, or could learn new skills. No people were taken for relation or culture ties. They had all been chosen, sifted from the dirt. Each colonist would help in some way, add a skill to the small city. For now they just lived in the city, improving it. Besides the colonist, there was Brutus's body guard, a mercenary company, and a troop of Imperials.

The only other notable place besides Tear is to the north. Laying alongside the river, the outpost borders the western forest.  From there lighter ships are sent north to scout. It also serves as a relay for troop patrols. Across the river, a forester camp is started. Harvesting heavily, they then cart the logs to the river. From there the outpost team picks it up, and relays it to Tear. The city demands lumber, needs it to grow. Quarries, mines, and farms also snake out from the city proper.
