  1. Minecraft Name: GurenRycerz

    Skype ID: GurenRycerz

    Time zone: PST

Have you ever been banned or received a strike? If so, link the report: No, never.

Do you hold any other staff positions?: Not currently, no.

What MMORPG/video games do you play?: Mostly just LotC, though I occasionally might play a little Guild Wars 2.

What are your characters? Are you willing to sacrifice any to become a Event member?:

Isabella von Craw ~ Former server Antagonist, current Tahariae cleric, always adorable.

Kaarnoth ~ Former Pra’drak, corrupted Bohra-monster-shaman-thingy of the Scourge, (Special thanks to Zarsies for granting me the opportunity to play this amazing event character) presumably lost with the fall of Setherien a mere hour before posting this.

Luthien Flormai ~ Priestess of ‘Baa, Spirit of Sheep Transactions’ (One of Crayfishchris’ event characters) Considered as another ‘semi’-event character.

I understand that my duties as an ET member would supersede my normal characters. I fully recognize that I’ll have to sacrifice any and all time spent playing them and am completely willing to do so.

What race/group do you think your events would best cater to?:

Well, my main character currently resides in Alras and will continue to into 4.0, so if I had to pick a nation to focus my efforts on, it’d be them. However, if able, I also intend to concentrate some of my efforts on new players specifically. After all, their first experiences on LotC are sure to shape who they become in our community, as well as whether they decide to stay past the first few weeks. Catering to these players who have little experience with roleplay is essential for the progression of our server.

What do you believe are key factors for a successful event?:

Fun: Above all, an event must be enjoyed by players, in my eyes, as long as this is achieved, nothing else matters, your event can be considered successful. If not, again, nothing else matters, if your event bores players, or worse, if it interrupts and detracts from their roleplay, in my eyes that’s a failure. First, do no harm.

That being said, there’re many different qualities of an event to be considered, and the importance of each quality will vary for each actor. Personally though, I’ll strive for original, dynamic, and influential events. Events needn’t necessarily flaunt these elements to be successful, they’re just something I’d personally like to strive for.

Original: Creativity is crucial with actors, it’s definitely important to refrain for bland or overused events. Players will quickly tire of an ET member who lazily recycles the same ordinary content such as cliché monster fights, even more so if multiple actors are guilty of this. A classic example is Antagonist raids, at first players rushed eagerly to these events, however, over time the Antag raid became drastically overused to the point where players widely viewed them as an unwanted nuisance.

Dynamic: Another essential quality is flexibility. Events (and actors) should be free to make spontaneous changes at the drop of a hat, to be unrestricted by one set outcome. They should strive to have countless outcomes, and countless paths, each easily influenced by player decisions and actions. Why?

Influential: Because player decisions should matter. Otherwise, what’s the point? It’s a bit like the boring cliché RPG quest: ‘go kill 10 rats’. What happens if you kill them? What happens if you don’t? If there’re no consequences why bother with it? The different paths and outcomes of an event should have the power to influence the world and people around players, as well as to influence their characters themselves. Events that manage to give players this sense of accomplishment are outstanding.

When was the last time you saw a event?:

I believe the last proper ET event I witnessed was one of Lark’s ‘Crooked’ events a couple months ago. This is concerning because I’m a fairly active player roleplaying in a fairly active area. Despite this, all I’ve witnessed recently are events I’ve actively helped plan and act in, and some mostly sloppy Antag ‘events’ which I’m reluctant to count (Except Swgrclan’s, those have been fun~).

What strengths could you contribute to the Event Team? Are you knowledgeable in lore or great at organizing? Tell us!:

My friendly personality of course! I mean, I’m also plenty knowledgeable with lore, hardworking, and I’ve a keen and creative mind (hopefully my event ideas support that claim), but plenty of candidates boast these qualities. I suppose some more key aspects for myself are my ability to always respect and remain friendly to my fellow players as well as to listen to their feedback, to effectively plan events in a short time frame, to remain organized under pressure, and experience. I’ve had plenty of opportunities to actively plan and host events, both player-run and staff-run. This, of course, also means I’ve already plenty experience communicating effectively between players, ET, GMs, LMs, etc.

I’m also adorable and will bake you cookies if you accept me!~

Why do you want to be part of the ET?:

I simply have as much fun hosting events as I do attending them. It’s become sort of a casual hobby of mine over the past several months. At first, it was to provide additional RP for the Arcane Delvers. I’d contact a GM (Special thanks to BrandNewKitten) for permission to play a variety of event monsters for guild members to hunt or fend off. This included half a dozen giant wolves, a reoccurring plant monster, a couple imps, etc. (Unoriginal monster events, I know, but everyone still enjoyed them.) Eventually, people would specifically ask me to arrange or act in events for/with them. Over time, I’d also had the opportunity to help plan and host a variety of Antag events, both on my past Antagonist and with Kaarnoth. Furthermore, I’ve had the opportunity to organize and even act in several events with the ET and GMs. Recently, this has included the Reign of Arachne event chain, http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/106806-the-reign-of-arachne/ (Which got cut short due to Antag interference.) where I played ‘The Spider Witch Arachne’ alongside Crayfishchris’ spider horde; as well as the current events where I play Luthien, the priestess of the Chris’ Spirit of Sheep Transactions, Baa, as they take the world by storm with reasonably priced sheep and sheep accessories!

Ahem… Forgive me for my rambling, but all of this does hold an important place in my reasons for volunteering. I’ve been quietly hosting unprofessional events for almost half a year now, I like hosting events, I’m good at it, and I’ll continue hosting events regardless of my acceptance. I’d simply like the opportunity to contribute further to the roleplay community, to have better access to the people and tools that’d able me to produce higher quality events, and to help other actors themselves, both staff and normal players, with their own events. I’m honestly disappointed in the state of events on our server, players are too dependent on the staff to provide them with event roleplay, and the staff isn’t sufficiently catering to these players’ needs. As an actor, I’d strive, just as I do now, to promote player-run events. To encourage player self-reliance and creativity. To help normal players breathe life into their own amazing events and roleplay.

Create three distinct RP scenarios/events that you would organize. 1) For one-3 person 2) For a group of 5-10 3) For a group of 20+:

    1. (1-3) The Sorceress:

A great and powerful sorceress has met her match, falling prey to the magical prowess of a rival witch. Consequently, her body and vast powers have been sealed away within the pitiful form of a kitten. Cursed to wander the continent in this powerless (yet adorable) body, the sorceress hunts from town to town for the one who dared transform her, stopping only to rest in the many taverns, guildhalls, and family homes of the Fringe. Hungry and fatigued from her travels she calls upon the generosity of the locals. Whether they take kindly to a magical talking cat is their choice, however, as a woman feline of high status and fine tastes, she expects to be treated with the upmost respect, as well as any comfy cushions, fresh fish, or saucers of milk that may be lying around. Should her hosts meet her with kindness and hospitality, their efforts will likely be rewarded with a small enchanted trinket from her collection (nothing powerful of course).

Simply a cute reusable event character offering a very flexible event chain. The storyline may also be expanded upon, building up to the kitten sorceress’ eventual confrontation with the witch who cursed her.

    2. (5-10) The Dragon:

Snuff the Magic Dragon has got the sniffles. Well, he’s not really a ‘dragon’, just an oversized magical talking lizard creature who’s too afraid of heights to fly, but nonetheless he’s caught a cold. Snuff decides to climb down his mountain (which is more of a lofty hill) to visit the local townspeople, hoping to acquire some warm chicken soup or perhaps a cleric to stifle his running nose. However, being an awkward, somewhat clumsy gigantic lizard monster, he finds himself prone to bumping into things and scaring the peasants. Only making things worse are his gale-force sneezes which have a tendency to take out small buildings and little old ladies. Which, mind you, he apologizes profusely for, his mother raised him to be a polite, if self-conscious, lizard monster after all. It’s up to the townspeople to decide his fate. Will they help nurse him back to health? Or will they summon the guard and drive off this sickly ‘dragon’?

If it wasn’t obvious, this is just my humorous take on the stereotypical dragon raid event.

    3. (20+) The Faerie Ball:

    http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/96621-draiochta-denizens-of-the-trackless-forests/

A small ‘caravan’ of Draiochta has sought refuge outside one of the Fringe’s bustling cities and, being the whimsical sort, have decided to extravagantly announce their presence by inviting all the continent’s races to an celebratory ball. However, after arriving, guests quickly find their hosts to be more than a handful when the Draiochta’s mischievous personalities get the better of them. Soon the innocent partygoers are assaulted by a myriad of childish pranks. Ladies begin sprouting fabulous beards, the roasted pig has freed itself from the fire spit and is now idly chatting with the guests, someone’s spiked the punchbowl with puppy-love potion, whoopee-cushions are EVERYWHERE! Etc.~

Such an event would be cute, fun, and dynamic, granting actors plenty of freedom in how they present these mischievous pranksters and their practical jokes. Additionally, as an advocate of player-run events, I’d also encourage trusted players be given permission to roleplay some of the Draiochta hosts. Staff members shouldn’t get to have all the fun, and more actors allows the event to better cater to more guests at once.

How long do you plan to stay in the ET?:

As long as I’m wanted and can actively provide fun events for the playerbase. However, I’ll be leaving for college this coming fall, so at most you’d probably have me until late summer.

Tell me what you want from the ET:

In all honestly, I’m somewhat upset about the current state of the ET, though I don’t think I’d be applying if it were perfect. I hope this is simply taken as constructive feedback and nobody takes offence, but I truthfully feel the ET has seen better days. Despite the notable increase in actors, I’ve failed to see any rise in normal events, it could just be my luck, but I’ve heard similar accounts from many players. A wedge has also been driven between the staff and players with the overuse of ET in storyline (Antagonist/Protagonist) positions and roleplay. I’d love to see players entrusted further with shaping the course of server storyline. After all, we have so many talented and creative roleplayers among us, and the staff shouldn’t get to have all the fun ❤. Another major concern I have involves some of the actors themselves. I’ve personally witnessed and heard of many cases where actors have acted negatively towards the community. Now I know this is simply a minority, that we’re all human, and I’ll respectfully refrain from going into detail, but these staff members must realize their position is a privilege, that they represent the face of LotC, and should strive to be proper rolemodels. First and foremost, I expect friendliness from the ET, I feel it’s the most important quality any staff member can have. I know it’s all a lot, but that’s what I want from the ET, it’s something I’ve seen from plenty amazing staff members past and present, and it’s what I hope to contribute.

  2. Sorry to hear you were dissatisfied with our event, but please try to understand, Crayfishchris and I were simply attempting to provide Alras with some fun roleplay. I can’t see how we interrupted any of your serious roleplay because, well, as far as I could tell, you were just walking casually through town. As I remember, you actually approached us, and attempted to randomly stab Chris’ peaceful event character in the neck while we were roleplaying with another player, only to then sprint away MCly without another word (Something I find somewhat ‘trolly’ myself…). Nonetheless, I hope you’ll be pleased to know our event continued long after you left and was still enjoyed by a few other passing players as well as myself.

On the topic of ‘serious’ roleplay though, sure, a player shouldn’t intentionally try to be ‘trolly’ and interrupt others’ roleplay. Though that doesn’t mean players/staff shouldn’t also strive to provide the occasional humorous roleplay. Humor is good, lots of players like humor, and it’s important to cater to their needs as well as the serious roleplayers out there.

  3. Name: Isabella von Craw

    Race: Human

    Age: 18 ((Lies! She's only 16!))

    Sex: Female

Other Affiliations/Loyalties: As a priestess of Tahariae, I've taken vows against war and unnecessary violence. If possible, i'd like to apply for a simple cleric or assistant position to help Alras and its Guard in anyway I can, I don't think i'm very capable of being a soldier.

Any notable talents, trades: Baking, healing

    [skype:] GurenRycerz

    Binding Oath:

I,  Isabella von Craw swear to honor my pact with the Order, to go about my duties with vigor and enthusiasm, to the High Crown, Syrio.

I, Isabella von Craw swear to strive to become a very paragon of strength, Justice, and mercy. To stand stoic against corruption and sin and slander, to the best of my ability.

Until the day I am set free from my duty, either by discharge or by death.

  4. More than the complete removal of the ET, I feel the players themselves need an attitude adjustment. Many of us have become too dependent on these staff members to provide our RP for us, to spoon-feed us events. Instead, we should be promoting self-reliance, players should be encouraged to plan and host their own events. This includes accepting more players into server storyline positions (Protag/Antag). The staff will still be there to assist when needed, but the ET is more a luxury than a necessity. If players would simply put the effort in, use their imagination, work with their friends, I’m certain they’d find themselves more than capable of producing ET quality events and roleplay.

Of all things in the world - virtue, money, happiness and so on - what do you value the most?: Family ❤
  6. Thanks for the additional info~

I have some questions though- a while back someone RP’d having a Thanhium Crystal which, according to them, caused any mage in close proximity to experience intense nausea and a hindrance to their magical ability. Is there any truth to this? Does a mage need to be cut by or ingest the crystals for their effect to be apparent, or is there somewhat of a ‘radiation’ effect as this player claimed (Perhaps long-term exposure or direct physical contact might have an effect, if any?). And if so, would a non-mage also react partially to its radiated toxicity? Thanks~

  7. I wanna be a fairy!! =D

    +1

Very nice lore, however! I believe, you've left out one key quality of well-known fairy folklore...

    Their mighty Corgi Cavalry!

  8. Personally, you're one of my favorite GMs, just as you were one of my favorite ET members too. I've only ever seen the friendly side of you, which, to me, is the most important quality a staff member can have. I've seen you go the extra mile on a few separate occasions as well, which i'm sure is greatly appreciated by players (And i'm still very appreciative for the opportunity to play Kaarnoth ❤). The only feedback I can offer is the same i'd offer to any GM, always remember to take some time out of your busy job every so often for some fun everyday roleplay~

  9. Well, as for a proper answer to the original post's question, the best I can come up with is that, with the new skills plugin, each persona will have their own leveling, and a small child wouldn't realistically be able to become, say, a master blacksmith, thus they've removed the option to play such without, I assume, having a GM set it for you. Mind you, I don't believe this is a ban on child roleplay, simply another restrictive hoop one must jump through.

  10.

It is an opinion, just like PvP default and no apps are an opinion. I would definitely not say they are vital, as toddlers and eight-year-olds can't have skills or a developed personality. I'm sure everybody enjoys the roleplay they provide, but people don't appreciate it, such as minas-or-die bandits. I would definitely say people correctly roleplay children; there just isn't much you can do with a child. I don't know if there is a majority, perhaps a poll about it would help. We aren't criticizing non-cliche people or simple roleplay, but the problem is toddler-roleplay is TOO simple, to the point where it provides no enjoyment or character development for anybody. You guys are all wonderful people, really, but you simply can't do anything with pre-pre-teen children.

Perhaps I wasn't considering other people's experiences in that rant of mine, my experiences with child roleplay are probably different from yours so I will concede, yes, there are definitely some child roleplayers who, while enjoying the roleplay themselves, aren't appreciated for it by others.

Mind you, on the topic of villains, (though I don't know why that got brought up...) we all know there're plenty of players among us whose villainous roleplay could be considered poor and goes unappreciated, such as cliche minas-or-die bandits. However, i'd personally never support the abolition of villains, or even the revival of VAs, because my point in all this is there're still plenty of people who enjoy villainous RP much like there're still plenty of people who enjoy child RP, and I hate to see that suddenly taken away from them just because of a difference in roleplay preferences.

Also, for the record, I don't play any child characters, haven't in a very long time~

  11. Saying children contributing nothing to RP as the reason for this change is simply an unfounded opinion, and I don't think the staff are that petty. Personally, i've witnessed plenty of amazing child roleplay, it's an vital RP niche beloved by a majority of players. And just because some people don't enjoy child roleplayers, doesn't mean child roleplayers themselves don't love the roleplay they're providing, it's also quite arrogant when people claim others don't know how to "correctly" roleplay (Especially when I know a couple of the people who have been claiming such could use some improvement themselves ❤) . Not everyone wants to play some valiant warrior or powerful mage or skilled craftsman, some people can appreciate simple roleplay beyond such cliches. Anways, now that i've had my rant, perhaps we can get a response from the staff about an actual reason behind the change~

  12. I'm not sure if this has already been addressed, but i'd really like to know why exactly we've bumped up the character minimum age limit from 2 to 10 on character cards? Seems absolutely useless, I mean, how does the server benefit from restricting people access to playing children? It's an important roleplay niche that many enjoy, I feel like this change is just gonna generate a lot of anger without proper reasoning behind it. Also, same question on name changing cooldowns. Why? Where's the benefit in such a restriction? I personally use name changing frequently, especially during player-run events, it's very useful and i'd like to see it returned.

As for the other changes... I'll just wait and see how they turn out before I start complaining~ ❤

  13. For the record, the majority of RP defaulters prefer RP over PvP fights not because they’re bad at PvPing or afraid to lose their items, but because they simply prefer roleplaying. Also, plenty of players have poor internet connection or use a laptop touchpad which severely reduce their ability to PvP. Just something to keep in mind while telling other players to ‘”just suck it up and get good”. While PvP is indeed the server default, it’s also important everybody enjoy the occasional fight, and RPing may be the only way for certain players to have fun in combat. Just my perspective on the matter, the guide part was very nice though~
