  1. Even with this, you can open chests in protected land, the only way your items are safe is if you have VIP, or a friend with it, but then you have to put up with entering a password every time you access your containers.
  2. If the leaders of a given nations land have control of who builds and what they build, as well as right to tear down anything they want, regulation shouldn't be an issue as long as the players are reasonably active. The rules against land scarring are very specific and detailed. They should be sufficient to protect the landscape. As for the resources bit, you have a fair point, but perhaps that will just add more roleplay, as the nations seek those resources. I do think that there should be ways of obtaining those natural resources (Dirt, Stone, Wood) without having to destroy the world.
  3. In order for an individual to aquire enough land to do this, they would have to singlehandedly gain the power, and money required for it. They would need to go against any nation that owns, or wishes to own the land. It would be quite a feat. Although, I do agree with you, there are far too many towns forts and castles which are consistently vacant. People need to stop trying to make their own organization/guild/order/nation and try instead to join another.
  4. With dilligent staff, this section of the rules should serve to prevent that. Landscape and Building Rules These rules apply when building on the server. » You must not destroy or damage a structure made by another player without their consent (griefing). » No world graffiti or vandalism is permitted. » No destroying of the worlds landscape or beauty – we reserve the right to remove ugly structures that do not fit in with the world without warning (warnings will usually be given beforehand). » Buildings must adhere to the structural architecture of the area, if you are designing a new structure it must look functional and attractive. » Buildings that block paths, destroy the atmosphere, serve no purpose or are an eyesore will be removed after a warning. » Strip-Mining is not acceptable. » Destroying buildings for no reason, out of roleplay and not in war is a bannable offense. » When cutting down trees, you must remove the leaves - if they are not removed, you may face a temporary ban. » All buildings are required to make 'roleplay sense' - meaning, floating structures, dirt structures or anything that wouldn't possibly be feasible in real life is not allowed. This also means that strip mines are not permitted - mines must have actual supports. If a building appears as if it would collapse, then it's not permitted. Buildings can not float on water and farms may not be underground.
  5. I think this might also fall under the rules against land scarring. Especially when it comes to the larger custom made trees.
  6. I definitely agree that this will start a flurry of wars, but I think that it will correctly reflect the medieval time period that the server is set in. Obviously, LOTC is not set in the history of our beatiful earth, but I think there will be parralels in any global history. One of the bigger parralells being the bed of bloodshed and war that the dominant kingdoms are built on. One glance at history will reveal that it is not the peaceful people that thrive, but the belligerent and power hungry ones. Such is the nature of humanity. If this is not the type of atmosphere that the admins want to create, then I would suggest finding a race other than humans to play their server. or else change things drastically. It doesn't neccesarily mean the obliteration of the lesser, culturally rich people, who knows, this could spur the creation of a new state to protect those people. Or perhaps the persistent loss of resources will force leaders to unite and create alliances and international war laws. Only time will tell how this will really turn out. Events may not attract players to join a given nation, but I think the quality and regular upkeep of good roleplay will.Take a look at the Audanian nation, and how fast it's grown. I'd also like to throw in a personal opinion/observation of mine. This is judgemental, but I feel that the better roleplayers tend to stay away from the "Soldier" archtype, or the individual who will be fighting wars. Those people are the ones who put time into the server, put thought into their roleplay, and really effect the political status of the world. I think a chain reaction caused by this elite group of players will somewhat prevent the world imploding into chaos.
  7. If that is the case, I think it'd be worth the messing.
  8. Thank you for your input, I tried adjusting my settings (I do use optifine) but I cannot find a setting that changes the distance at which you view players. I've asked a couple friends and they too had this issue, so I assumed it was something to do with the server.
  9. **Apologies if this is the incorrect location for this post** I've noticed that after walking over 50 blocks away from another player, you can no longer see them. You cannot get them back in your view until you return to about 44 blocks away. If this is a feature then my question would be why? Our characters must not have such terrible vision that when an individual is more than 50 meters away they simply disappear. (Despite the fact that structures remain perfectly clear) I can understand the logic behind a certain limit, but fifty blocks is far too short. If it is a bug, then crush it, because bugs are alltogether quite disagreeable.
  10. I don't think that's a valid generalization. While I agree some people do this, I'd say it's a minority.
  11. I think the idea of this update is to move away from, as you said. "...power influences how many people join a nation more than any event or quality RP will." People will naturally be attracted to the nation with the most people at first, but once they settle in they will realize that the better RP doesn't neccesarily exist there, and will then move on to wherever it does exist. That is of course, excluding all the other hundreds of reasons people have for being a part of a given nation. Those reasons will always exist, but I feel that this change will serve to give the pursuit of a higher level of roleplay a firmer place to stand among the more attractive motivators.
  12. A lifetime of happiness falls short in the shadow of eternity.

  13. I agree with this, as long as a given nation will have some land (and as I understand they cannot loose all of it without all of their members dieing, and even then they could just make new characters to take up the leadership) no nation will go extinct. I think this system will give the power to those who put the most time, and effort, into the quality of their roleplay.
  14. I have not been a part of these instances but I would guess that they are a kneejerk reaction. The orcs are at a certain disadvantage being one of the first to change to this system, but I think once the other nations adjust, things will perhaps not "settle down" but the orcs will be able to not only fight back, but crusade agains the nations who beset them.
  15. I agree with this, however, how do you figure the number of players in a given nation? My character is a human, but is not affiliated with the Oren nation, so he obviously should not count towards their numbers despite his race.

In-Character Details Character Name:Johnny Steele Character Race:Human Character biography - Make this at least 2 paragraphs long, which must explain your character’s history, appearance, personality, age and any other details you deem necessary: It has been said that there are few souls that burn so hot as Johnny Steele. His mother was a northerner, wild, fearsome, and beautiful. She grew up sparring with her six brothers far in the north. She was pale as snow, with long blonde hair that flew in every direction when she swung her mighty axe known by the locals as "Mancleaver". She was the belle of the village. Every man who saw her would have fought a thousand wars to claim her as his prize. Unfortunately for many who tried, she was often too caught up in her own world to notice their attempts. Her intense blue eyes were often the last thing that those who dared face her in combat saw. She was one of a kind. Her name, was Aleya Felthar. His father was born and raised in Al'Khazar. From his youth, to his old age, the dark and lanky fellow could be consistently found exploring the pages of a book. He was captivated by books, knowledge was his sun, wisdom his moon, and secrets his stars. It would take a man years to find a tome he had not read. All of his time was spent reading, or searching for new words to devour. As such, he was no man of combat. His name, was Verigan Steele. It was grey the day they met, grey and full of storms. Verigan had traveled to what he referred to as "The frozen waste" of the north in search of ancient tomes documenting the history of the world. He found himself in the very town that Aleya was raised. Though it couldn't be said that she lived there, as Aleya was always on the move, she happened to be visiting at the time. Verigan was sitting in the darkest, and wamrest, corner of the local inn, pouring over some ancient scrolls he had found when Aleya sauntered in (And she did saunter). The beautiful maiden had something of a tradition that she had created on her many travels, every time she entered a place to drink or eat, she would search the room for the most interesting looking individual, and sit with them, stranger or not. Her steady gaze fell on Verigan. The first impression she had was of the man twisted into what seemed to be a ball of arms and legs sticking out of a pile of furs which had a head popping out of the top that peered intensely at a rather large pile of papers on the table before him. She found mirth in this sight, and after ordering a large mead, came over to greet him. Verigan was so consumed in reading that he didn't notice her until she spoke. "Are you a man, or a beast the likes of which I have never seen?" she said loudly. Verigan jumped, almost falling off his chair. Once he regained his composure enough to look at what monstrosity had roused him from his studies, his jaw swung loose on it's hinge. Never before had he seen a woman such as Aleya, her beauty was simply captivating. He felt as if those firey blue eyes were pierced his very being. As lost as he was, he managed to reply, "If I am a man, you are a goddess." As much as it may have seemed, Verigan was not a charmer, in fact it was quite the opposite, whenever he found himself in a social situation, he had a bad habit of saying the exact words that came to mind the moment they came. He often got himself in trouble that way. His hands flew to his mouth as soon as he realized what he had done, for he feared that he would scare her. Aleya raised an eyebrow slowly and said "And are you a man?" "Y-y-y-es, yes I am." Aleya and Verigan found love that day. From their love came three children, two boys and a girl. The eldest, Gamolile, was much like his father, dark skinned with brown curly hair. The middle, named Johnny, was a mix of his parents, Not quite as pale as his mother, with hair that was blonde, but lacked the brightness that his mothers was known for. The youngest was a girl who they named Aleya, after her mother, as she resembled her in most every way. Johnny grew up happily with his family. They lived in a large wooden house in the middle of a glade in the north. The walls of the second level were lined with Verigans books, the walls of the first, with Aleyas weapons. The days were spent exploring the land around the house, tumbling with his siblings, and of course, doing the chores. Every morning his mother would gather the children for their daily lesson on what she called "Necessary Skills for Living" this involved everything from firemaking and hunting, to fighting and warfare. Each evening they would once again gather as his father read the family something from of his books in front of their blazing hearth. A child could not have asked for a happier youth. Johnny's perfect childhood was changed forever on the day of his twelfth birthday, when Johnny's parents got him a dog. He loved that dog, and it lived happily with them until the day he left. On the dawn of the day he turned eighteen he left home. While he was happy there, something inside him had tugged at him all his life, some kindling wanderlust that urged him to go and explore the world. He had changed much since a child, he was tall, Six feet and two inches, with long dark blonde hair that fell about his broad shoulders. While muscular, he was still very lean. His eyes were a dim shade of blue, the color of the calm before a storm, and on his scruffy face he wore strong, sharp features. He was ready to challenge the world, clever enough to overcome any obstacle, and foolish enough to fear very little. Johnny was never one to be a champion of good, nor a advocate of evil. He believed in freedom, the right of an individual to pursue a life that satisfied them, and if he found someone who lacked this basic right, he fought to give it to them. He had a youthful personality, full of mirth, and he loved to share this joy with others. Johnny is now twenty-six, a seasoned fighter, and considerably less foolish. His lucky stompers have carried him far and wide, and he has been made tough by many an adventure. Johnny still submits completely to the wanderlust within him, never knowing where the wind will take him next. What are your characters ambitions?: Johnny seeks adventure, he loves a good fight, and relishes a secret. He has no ambitions other than to follow where the wind leads him. Please provide an in-game screenshot of your skin here: http://imgur.com/zuY8Q Is there anything else you would like to say about your character: Unless armored for battle, Johnny is almost always wearing his lucky leather boots, lovingly named "Johnny's Lucky Stompers". Open-Response-Questions Each question here must be answered with a minimum of one full paragraph, and detail the scene you are given in the way it would happen in roleplay. These questions should be answered in first person. Be detailed, not short. Upon entering the Mighty Human City of Arethor, you come across a shop-keeper calling out to sell his wares to passers-by. The shopkeeper is not a Human, he is a poor dwarf looking to make a living in a new city. What is your response? I let my gaze trace the tops of the buildings as I walked through the gates of the city. I think I would have kept on walking all the way through the city except that I made a friend. As I was busy examining the architecture, I bumped into to something. Upon realizing that the thing was not just a person, but a dwarf, and not just a dwarf, but a dwarf salesman shouting about his wares, I suppose was a tad embarrased. "Ye' had better watch where yer going lad." exclaimed, slightly bothered by me. "My sincerest apologies friend, I'm afraid I was lost in reverie." I replied. "Lost in what...? Well nevermind, would ye' like to buy a weapon? It's good dwarven steel, 'll serve ye' well on the battlefield." he said, changing from grumpy to charming almost instantly. I chuckled "My name is Steele." The dwarf was silent for a moment then looked at me with curious eyes "Yer an odd fellow..." I laughed, as it was true. "And you, friend, seem like an interesting one. Look, the sun is falling and I'm sure your throat is dry from yelling all day, how about you join me for a drink?" He was seemed suprised that a stranger would invite him to drink. With a note of suspicion in his voice he said "Only if you're paying." I laughed again and replied "It would be my pleasure." You’re wandering the Oren Road late at night, when a large Orc begins to threaten a nearby dwarf. There is no help nearby, and the situation looks like it will escalate into violence soon, what does your character do? "Excuse me friend", I spoke with my most charming smile, "It appears to me that you are not being very kind." The orc turned it's bulky muscular body towards me and grunted "I don't tink dat dis is yur buisness 'ooman." Staring straight into the eyes of the seven foot brute I continued "Oh, but I believe it is." The orc, visibly annoyed with my disrptuion yelled "Who do yu tink yu are!" I bowed courteously and replied "My name is Johnny Steele, adventurer extraordinaire and -as of about thirty seconds ago- defender of the weak. If you intend to hurt this dwarf, then you will have to bypass my blade". The orc was furious, but for some reason not willing to fight he spat on the ground and said " Bah! I could crush your skull with my fist if I wanted but I don't want to, so I'm leaving." The orc stomped away angrily. Whilst walking down the road to Malinor, you stumble upon an old man. His walking stick , looks weak and frail, and just as you are about to ask something, the stick breaks, and the man falls to the ground. As he falls down, a bag of Minas falls to the ground, and splits open. As you watch the multiple coins spill out, you peer down at the defenceless man. What does your character do?: I rushed over to the old man to help him up. "Are you alright?" "Oh yes, I seem to have fallen." he said, covered in dirt. After setting him up right, and dusting him off, I bent over to pick up the coins. "You ought to be carefull carrying money like this, you never know when someone might try to take advantage of an old defenseless man." As I handed him the pouch, once again bloated the old man smiled curiously and spoke "Who says I am defenseless" he clapped his bony hands together and a ball of fire floated above them. My eyes grew wide with disbelief as I muttered "Well... my mistake."
