  1. I've spawned as a Wandering Soul. Here's my application: http://www.lordofthecraft.net/topic/102905-pendingapplication-for-grebsky/ Thanks!
  2. Out-Of-Character Information What’s your Minecraft Account Name?: Grebsky How old are you?: 17 What time-zone do you live in?: GMT Have you ever roleplayed before - if you have, how?: Have been playing D&D for a few years now, I have some experience as a Dungeon Master as well. On PC, I have experience with the obvious games: Skyrim, Neverwinter Nights 2 and Sacred. I have for a few years also been active online in various forum-based (text-only) RPGs, with specifically more of a focus on RP than 'action'. Have you been on any other roleplaying servers?: Nope, not on Minecraft. Have you applied to this server before?: No. How did you hear about us?: Was looking an RPG/LotR-themed server, this one suits the RPG bill perfectly! What do you think the server will be like?: I've been around a lot of it as a wandering soul, it seemed quite nice – and very big. I got lost trying to find New Malinor, so on the way I visited Lenfarthing which seemed lovely. I saw some players go round their daily business and quite enjoyed the way everyone RP'ed along nicely. Have you read and agreed to the rules?: Yep. What’s your favourite rule / the rule you agree with the most?: From my D&D experience, I can say that powergaming/metagaming really ruins everything in a scenario that's been well constructed and balanced – there's nothing worse than players trying to find ways of outwitting the setting and it's designer's creativity. Definitions What is roleplaying?: Assuming a role and playing it (ok that sounds terrible). More precisely, assuming that the player is not a player but a character or separate person in a [fantasy] world, and the player is merely acting him as he would act himself. What’s metagaming?: Using the player's knowledge as the character's. For instance, a player can know all about Ancient Elven, but his character (a Halfling maybe) may not even know it exists. Metagaming is allowing the Halfling to use it or refer to it. What’s powergaming?: Powergaming is optimising one's gameplay so as to be most 'effective' without complying to roleplaying rules or principles in an attempt to 'win' or be superior to other characters. For instance, a Halfling may metagame and know that diamond swords are the best, and may powergame by using them (whereas in proper roleplaying terms it's highly unlikely they would even possess a sword at all). Or creating a character without flaws. Powergaming is carrying out an action against or in relation to another character without giving them the opportunity to affect the outcome, and assuming it is successful and carried out. For instance Player 1 and Player 2 are in a tavern, when a fist-fight breaks out. Player 1 powergames and says 'I punch [player 2's character], who is knocked unconscious' without Player 2's consent or ability to respond/prevent the powergame. (really sorry for the contorted answers!) In-Character Information What’s your character called?: Robin Burrowes What race are they (and sub-race)?: Halfling What sex are they?: Male How old are they?: About middle-aged, if not perhaps a little older, at about 55 Give us a brief description of their life - their story, childhood, family (Include server lore when writing): Robin Burrowes grew up in a privileged environment, the son of a successful and talented baker, and was able to spend most of his time free, in Lenfarthing's many fields, enjoying life with various other Halfling children. In fact, Robin has spent most of his life doing just that – appreciating life. Blissfully unaffected by the goings-on of the world outside Lenfarthing, his interests have always been limited to discussing the best use of a field for growing grain, or the merits of sunlight over moonlight for the best harvesting conditions. Occasionally a 'foreigner' would appear, at which point Robin, as all the other young Halflings would congregate around him and clamour for tales of great victories in outlandish and exotic places – all the while from the comfort and warmth of a nice old inn. In fact, Robin himself once went on an adventure. It wasn't very long ago. One day, he decided he too could brave strange foes and test his strength. He packed his favourite cooking-pot, plenty of food, three blankets and a pillow, and his old, slightly rusty axe. By the time he'd left Lenfarthing, he'd finished his supply of biscuits and half his ale. He'd found two mushrooms, although neither looked very appetising. After a while, he found some pretty flowers in a nice field. And that was when he realised that he had gone quite far enough, thank you, and that these flowers would make a nice souvenir from his First Adventure. Although not a traumatic experience in itself, he now enjoyed laughing about it whenever seeing young children play as he once did. He also considered himself very lucky, as in his (somewhat) wiser days, he had seen maps, showing that had he not stopped in that luscious field, he would have ended up in the Witch Woods, probably never to return... He has always attributed his 'adventurous' streak on a particularly active ancestor, who was so broad and bearded he had been able to live amongst the dwarves, no less, for quite a while. What are they like (personality)?: Joyful, always cheerful. Although Robin doesn't make particularly close friends very easily (he is a little overwhelming at times), he generally gets on with everyone, and can converse quite amiably with others generally considered unlikeable. He is always happy to help. His outwards behaviour often hides however deep thoughtfulness, and every now and then What are their ambitions?: Robin's main ambition (aside from reaching a little further in his travels and seeing 'the world' – which he guesses will never happen) is to one day find the perfect and absolute best method for brewing ale. His secondary ambition (and the more realistic and likely) is to be known to all Halflings as the best cake-maker in the land. Do they have any special skills?: Not really. His skill with plants and recognising them has always allowed him some proficiency in healing, and he is generally able to help those who fall ill or who suffer minor injuries. He is also quite a good baker. What are their weaknesses?: He is rather lazy (or more specifically sees no reason to do that which he has not already done that won't impact what he does). He is also rather too curious sometimes, and often overly eager to help – even when help is not wanted, needed, or in his interests. His curiosity has on occasion led him to overthink things which should be kept simple – so most of the time he oversimplifies things to make life easier. Give us a description of how they look (not a screenshot yet!)?: Robin is slightly taller than an average Halfling, but in many ways is typical for his kind: brown hair, not too fair skin, relatively broad. Due to his tendency to prefer thinking about problems rather than acting on them, he is not the most agile of Halflings. He has brown eyes, and is generally seen well dressed in his favourite green waistcoat, his brass buttons always properly polished. Anything else you want to say about them?: No, I think I've covered everything. Please give us a screenshot of your character’s skin:
