Character’s name: Everard Tunis Character’s sex: Male Character’s race: Human Character’s age: 47 Biography : Some 47 years ago Everard was born in the human city of Petrus in the realm of Athera to a prominent banker and a housewife. He was the youngest of seventeen children(fifteen of which survived to adulthood). Everard received a normal, at-home education from his mother, where he was taught the basics of finance, maths, and art, the last of these topics being the most interesting to a young Everard. He fell in love with creating art. He knew what he wanted to do with his life as soon as he picked up a paintbrush. He wanted to become a painter. As soon as he came of age, Everard took a modest amount of money he’d saved, packed up his things, kissed his mother goodbye and took off. He wandered around the realm in search of things of beauty to memorialize in paint and he found them. He painted people of all races and creeds. He painted nature’s marvels from the grand to the meek. He painted the dreams of princes and the stories of beggars. He painted whatever beauty he could find in the world. He would take contracts and commissions to pay for his travel and lodging, and when he went a long stretch of time without either then he would live off the land, do favors, and pick the earth’s bounty whenever possible to stay afloat. It was a paradise to a young Everard, but no paradise is eternal and slowly Everard realized that the beauty of the world was a fading facade that was held up by his youthful ignorance. He realized that the world was dying and that there was nothing he could do to prevent it. He felt useless. With each passing day he felt worse and worse about the state of the realm, he eventually spiraled down into a deep depression, relying on alcohol to get through his days. His production of paintings came to a halt, and the few that he did make were dark and brooding. Eventually the realm of Athera did die, through a mythical giant worm devouring it. Everard was one of the descendants that fled from Athera to the isles of Vailor. With the loss of Athera, Everard lost even more of himself. His homeland was gone, never to return and his paintings depicted once natural beauty that was now nothing more than dust. However, Everard’s life was not doomed to be a dark abyss forever. Not long after arriving in Vailor, Everard met the love of his life. Her name was Lily, like the flower, although to Everard, no flower in existence could compare to her beauty. She was the light in his life that would never go out. Her voice was more idyllic than the sweetest song. She was his escape from the world. The two fell in love almost instantly and it seemed a love to last the ages. They moved to Riga, where they began to make a life for themselves. Everard would paint on commission and the commission seemed endless. Everard was happy for the first time in a long time, he was doing what he loved and more than enough money to support himself while married to the woman of his dreams. Nothing gold can stay. It wasn’t a sudden change, it took time, but slowly and ever so gradually the orders dried up. People stopped commissioning Everard. Why? No one can say. Maybe it was the strife that afflicted the country. Maybe it was an undocumented economic downturn. Or maybe Everard said something that offended while drunk. Yes, despite being as happy as ever Everard was still a drunk. His worsening alcoholism was just another burden stacked upon his already worsening financial situation. He needed to do something. Anything to put himself back on track. And so he studied his father’s trade, finance. He learned how to work with what little money he had. He learned how to invest. He learned how to save. And despite learning all of these skills, he never changed. He remained a starving artist who spent the little money he had on alcohol. Not only were his finances and personal wellbeing falling apart, but his marriage was going down the drain as well. Lily became wary of Everard’s condition and afraid for his future, as well as her’s. The more Everard drank, the more injuries Lily accumulated, both mental and physical. See, something in Everard changed when he was drunk. Perhaps the demon in the bottle that the old sailors talk about afflicted Everard. Perhaps alcohol awoke some deeply repressed part of him. Whatever it was, it made Everard abusive towards his love, and the more he drank, the harder he hit. While drunk he would make up reasons to tell himself on why the beatings were justified and when he woke up in the mornings with a deathly hangover he would weep over his actions just to repeat them the very next night. Eventually, Lily couldn’t take it anymore and she left the man whom she still loved. With the loss of Lily, Everard’s life entered its darkest chapter. He stopped painting altogether, and eventually had to sell his personal collection just to keep his house, and his addiction. We sold more and more of his personal belongings until they were all gone and he had nothing else to sell. His house went next, and the he was living on the streets begging for spare change. His life was harsh. He hated the world and he hated himself more. His life had reached the bottom of its hill. he could go no further down. There was no escape from his rut. He would’ve off’d himself, but he couldn’t afford enough rope to get the job done. It had been years since his wife left him and he lost everything. Everard had become accustomed to sleeping in alleyways and begging for enough money to stave off starvation. He was past his wit’s end, his last legs had broke, his straits had been dire for far too long. He was sure that he would die like this, alone, depressed, and poor. It seemed as though nothing could improve in his life. Until he met a man, a tall, strange man who offered Everard a second chance at life for a price. This man knew than Everard was a prolific painter, and decided to make a trade with the poor man. He would give Everard enough money to restart his life and move away from the port city, as long as Everard gave up his ability to paint. Why someone would want to take someone’s passion is a mystery, but Everard agreed and was given his money at the cost of a knife through his hand, permanently keeping him from painting. The wound healed, eventually, but his hand could not perform the fine movements needed to paint. Everard used the money he was give to get a haircut, three sets of clothes, a new pipe, a bottle of bourbon, and a one way ticket to Felsen. Where he could start his life anew. Personality Traits: Everard is a man who is stern and convicted is his feelings and opinions. He is solemn of nature and strong, despite having been broken so many times. He is deceptively charismatic, especially after a drink or two. He is quick, witty, and intelligent. He can be excessively mean and abusive when he’s drunk too much, and often blacks out once he’s drunk an excessive amount. Ambitions: He wants to make something of himself, and make his own fortune to live off of. He wishes to use his skills in financing to begin the next chapter in his life. He wishes one day to regain the acute use of his hand and be able to paint once more. Strengths/Talents: Natural charisma, strength, ambition, willing to thrive, a extensive knowledge of art, and a moderate knowledge of managing financials. Persistence. Weaknesses/Inabilities: Addiction to alcohol, and smoking. Injury in right hand. Depression. Abusive tendencies. Appearance (List the extra details of your characters appearance, IE; height & weight): Everard is a tall man, standing around 6’1” and weighing around 140lbs. He is broad-shouldered, and strong in appearance. His face is stern and chiseled from stone. A salt-and-pepper close cut beard border the bottom of his face, which is paired with neat, wavy hair on his head to give him an aura of refinement. He’ll typically be found wearing tight clothing made of elegant and expensive fabrics that complement his muscular figure. When the need arises, he'll don a chaperon as his preferred hat. When out of the house he wears a leather overcoat fit with an extensive amount of pockets to keep his things in. He has a nasty cough as a result of his years of smoking.
