Please compose a well-written paragraph, explaining why you’d like to attend the Holm Academy, and what opportunities you may pursue with your degree.

I desire to join the Academy to explore more about the arts of medicine and alchemy. I wish to make myself of use to aid the ill and warriors of battle through the practice. These are dire times of conflict call high demand for medicine and alchemy - a choice I can pursue if I am able to obtain a degree. The Academy also offers diversity of other people with different backgrounds, and it will be healthy to expose myself and understand other people. Knowledge is a full of richness and wealth in itself and I hope to be granted with such a chance.

  3. Hola! Okay, okay! Blah speech is not enforced anymore, and there have been threads in the past about this! Though, if some orcs are getting aggressive because another orc does not have the accent, or too small of an accent, you should educate them of this and be like, "Hey! Stop it! No!"

As for Olog CA, sure! Ologs are a powerful sub-race. They also could potentially be easily powergamed. I have seen some Ologs that have questionable knowledge -- too smart is what I'm trying to say. I read somewhere here of someone saying blacklist, but those would require GMs to look into the RP and players arguing among each other. Kinda like a ban report... maybe. I'unno the process! CA seems like a much safer route, regardless of the low activity. If someone wants to play a race, they should read up on it and understand how it works. That's a responsibility we hold as players, to read-up and comprehend the bulk of what we RP.

I would suggest against this addition, here i'll provide some points and possibly a helpful compromise.

    -

Soul puppetry at T5 can hold a connection upto one IRL week as well with requiring constant connection and use for the curse to work. The addition you've stated can stay upto Two IRL weeks and with aid Four IRL weeks with no specification if the necromancer has to keep a constant connection.

Now with Shamanism specifically WitchDoctors also perform curses that can be lasting depending what the Shaman and Spirit agree on, these curses can also range to those you've listed and last for X - amount of time.

The curses themselves would be based on pure similarity, and i'll suggest going against them and doing something similar as you wrote the Branding idea.

    -

    My suggestion to help:

Scrap the idea of the curses you listed and the ideal of biology item from the selected individual and in it's stead replace it with different branding affects, as stated in Resurrection you've listed one to resurrect the player upon death to fill one of the slots of zombies in your arsenal, how about a touch that rots away the skin, a touch that increases the range of your life-drain ability, ext. Help it work with your current set of skills rather then trying to use other curses which are utilized by two different groups.

I've not caught up with Mysticism yet so i'm unsure if hexes can perform these things. Though i'll suggest to keep the idea to help empower the abilities done by Necromancers rather then trying to utilize curses which can already be done by Shamanism(witchdoctor) and Soul Puppetry.

I agree completely with him! This section of the lore really caught my attention - probably because I'm a hexing freak, but whatever! Anyway, the most a witchdoctor's curse could probably extend is a week! And that's with OOC consent! A regular curse is about a day-to-two days, depending on your tier. I am against the cursing section because, like, Evocress mentioned, there are already two (maybe three because mysticism?) wonderful magics that can already curse. Not to mention, they have a wide variety of curses to cast. You even mentioned that it is similar to soul puppetry cursing... which is... meh. If you want cursing and necromancy, just become a soul puppeteer and a necromancer. No need to add that on to this rewrite when you've got some good magics right already in place! (Also, your cursing is very powerful... like super powerful... wow) Bottom line, I agree with Evocress a lot! As a suggestion to help you with this piece? I have nothing, but Evocress' amends look decent!

  5. It was a nice, small piece to read! Some avatars, I dislike because they need work; however, others are neat-o. Anyway! Personally, I would like to see more done with the current avatars before considering adding more. Should more avatars - specifically these - wish to be added, some revision should be considered!

Is it possible for a non-shaman to travel to the spirit realm, contact spirits, and request things from them etc, or is this reserved for Lutaumans and Farseers?

A non-shaman can travel to the spirit realm, contact spirits, and request boons from them, as long as they have a Shaman who is capable of traveling to the respective realms. For instance, you want to talk to your dead Aunt Sally. Lucky for you, your dead Aunt Sally could be in the Ancestral Plane and you would need a Lutauman to visit/contact her. Want to have a chat with a lesser spirit of fire? Go to your local Elementalist (possibly witch doctor) and you'll be on your way. Immortal Spirits? Not a problem! Get in contact with a Farseer or Witch Doctor and they will be able to send you over there - given all these shamans are powerful enough to do so.

In short, yes a non-shaman can travel to the Spirit Realm and contact Spirits but you generally need a Shaman to "make a passageway" for you. There are a few exceptions with events and if a Spirit decides to manifest into the Mortal Realm, etc. Of course, if you do want to role-play with a Spirit, you need an MT/LM, or an ET who is given permission to play them (I doubt this applies to Ancestral Spirits, unless you need an MT/LM to oversee it). Superstition role-play is also very fun!

Its hard to find candidates for the magic. In my honest opinion, many orcs seek out shamanism without truly wishing to be a shaman.

Well said! And I agree completely with majority of what you said.

With that, I would like to add that any race can become a shaman and learn shamanism. People in the past have acquired shamanism and they were not even an orc! Such as Phaedrus'Yar (I kind forgot what his username was, but I'm sure it's somewhere), 'Wraps' played by Whymsical, Dak'ir played by Dakirennis (spelling?), and probably others that I just cannot remember right now. If you are a non-orc and seek to be a shaman, you honestly just have to find the right kind of teachers and prove yourself worthy to be a shaman - that means you gotta deal with the spirits and praise(or at least, what most people prefer)!

This is mostly directed to: @zaezae and any others who thought shamanism is race-locked!

  8. Hello~ I may not be in any LotC power/staff/whatever, but thank you for your feedback! Overall, the shamans are currently in the works of a Shamanism clarification project. A few obstacles here and there, but of course it will get done (hopefully soon) nevertheless! Buuuuut, you already knew that since you're a Shaman, hehe. Anyway, let me address your concerns and my standpoint on them.

    1. Shamanism decline! Yes, as it always has been since Vailor and now it just continues to sink. I do not have a valid or concrete answer to this issue, but I can give you what I think of the situation. Yes, the lack of teachers is one of the main causes for this problem - no doubt in my mind. I do not think I need to elaborate on that since it is evident and pretty self-explanatory. As a teacher in shamanism, and probably the only current active witch doctor teacher,  finding students who my character deems "worthy" is difficult. Might not be an excuse and I do not want it to be seen as such, but my character truly sees many people unfit for shamanism. Speaking of which, if you are interested in witch doctory, do not hesitate to reach out to me IRP and things will go up from there! (I swear I'm nice!)

    2. I could not agree more. Dark shamans, although it is somewhat helpful to the magic's growth, should not be able to teach regular shamanism. Yes, they could have the knowledge to teach, however the Spirits would know your attempts and obviously know that someone is a Dark Shaman and who you are teaching. It would be highly unlikely a Spirit would listen/answer/grant power to you if you are being taught by a Dark Shaman - a being that most, if not all, Spirits would have knowledge of being an entity that goes against the Spirits via (did I use that word right?) eating other spirits. The only spirits who would answer their call is probably another Dark Shaman in the Ancestral Realm or malicious Spirits such as Ixli, oh boy especially Ixli (naughty spirit).

Do note, these are just my views and beliefs on the problems! Sorry if they did not make sense, but I am always willing to elaborate and expand upon them. Anyway, you are in Shaman Chat and we are able to reflect and deal with this issue (preferably after the Shaman clarification, pls). Was this help? Probably not, no no. But, meh, why not pitch in my own two cents.

I apologize for my foolish behavior and making everyone uncomfortable. I should have known my choice of words was not fitting for the family-fun environment and I am deeply sorry. From now on, I will keep myself in check and mature as I have learned what I did wrong. Please accept this apology, as it was a childish joke and will not happen again.

Why should you be unbanned?: I am a great asset to the United Fantasy circle-jerk. I am part of the adhesive material that keeps us all together and collected. I bring the fun as I am the life of the party. But most importantly I am your family. We are family and we are one. I love you all dearly.

  10. Please note that when I mean it is unheard of to me, that it is uncommon to happen in-game. It very well is possible, but a Spirit would not make itself into an item like that to be used around by mere mortals with no real intentions! You mention that the powers were created from the Greater Spirits when dealing with the Immortal Spirits, which means that they themselves would manifest into an item for a common mortal to use. A great powerful being with immense power restricting itself to an item that serves no great contribution to its cause. Unlikely.

Now with this entire civil argument going back and forth, I would like to clarify - for myself - that these items are not imbued with the Spirits power but instead the actual Spirits themselves, yes?

Anyway, backtracking a bit! Just because your items go beyond the mortal art of Shamanism and deals with the Spirits does not mean there are no restrictions on their abilities as to what they can do. Think of it! Spirits have the ability to do many, many things! Great powerful things! However, that can easily be abused which is why restrictions exist to keep things in check and balanced.

Thank you for tending to my concerns and I will further discuss with DivineJustice!

  11. All of your items appear much more than just cosmetics, even the brand - which is probably possible through Spirit Smithing! I understand you have obtained these items, but they should be reevaluated as they are very powerful and go over the border the abilities of normal Shamanism. For example, light manipulation, in such as a way you used, is uncommon nowadays due to many restrictions and elaborations placed into shamanism. Or water manipulation without being a water elementalist. You also do not even provide the name of the ET(s) who could vouch for you that these items were indeed created and given, but also they - or maybe it is you - do not understand some of the concepts of Shamanism, which is seen through the abilities of your artifacts you have just presented.

From their strengths and their borderline on Shaman capabilities, I advise that these items are recreated and the trials are redone with close inspection by the MT/LT or proof - whether this be through Spirit Smithing and/or Spirits themselves. With that, some of these items should be completely removed or have their strength reduced, mainly the Gauntlets of Ice, Bow of Light, Orb of Reflection. The Iron Brands of the Forge appears to be okay, as well as your Chains of Purity, but need  drawbacks on them. Every item need to be removed of their "tether points," because manifestation of an item for common use (by this I mean used regularly by the common player on a common day instead of events) happens little to none! When your item is destroyed, your item is destroyed and the energies are released back to the Spirit Realm. They are not repaired and re-manifested back into the Mortal Realm because you are creating another material which is unnatural - unless the item itself is part of the Spirit, as in that is what the Spirit chose to manifest as which is still unheard of in my opinion.

I apologize once more if my points are unclear, but I am always open to elaborate and provide clarity to them!

  12. All right! Neat items and concepts, but I have to throw in my two cents for the sake of my own goodness for shamanism (if that makes sense??)!

Despite your claims of the items being created before Spirit Smithing, I suggest that these items are re-created through a Spirit Smith. These items are powerful, and I agree that they should require an MArt application; with this, the items should have been applied for long ago and now that Spirit Smith exists, it is better to use the magic and role-play with it.

Additionally, your "Bow of Light" and "Gauntlets of Ice" are somewhat iffy with the Spirit Smithing capabilities, as in they are very strong in their elements that they manipulate compared to what normal Spirit Smiths can do (if that makes sense?).

If you decide that Spirit Smith is not a route for you, I also suggest that the role-play is done again to craft these items with a current member of the MT/LT/ET, or any other person that is capable of role-playing a Spirit. The "Unknown, et item from past" is sketchy, not gonna lie. Your explanation does make some sense and technically can be applied, but with such power and strength these items have it should be redone with the Spirit played by a someone who is able to and have them vouch for you. Also, do not forget that usually you would have to persuade the Spirit or do tasks and trials for them to give you their boons.

Lastly (I hope), the tether points. Spirits generally cannot manifest items (unless that item or entity is themselves) and instead imbue their powers with items already existing in the Mortal Realm. Sooooo, if that item is destroyed it's done for! Done! Zip! No manifestations back to its tether point. You would have to re-do the process of imbuing the power into the item.

Forgive me if my points are unclear (and my grammar is just awful), but I would be more than happy to elaborate on them! Don't know if I'm allowed to do this, but meh, worth a shot.
