What magic(s) will you be teaching?

             Sensory Illusion

Describe this magic or a creature as a whole:

    Sensory Illusion:

As all Voidal magics do, sensory illusion first begins with forming a connection the void. The illusionist can then utilize the void to draw illusions from and even cast across to the subconscious of others. A mage must first grasp how to connect with the void before they can contrive illusions out of it. Once they understand how to connect to the void, it will only require one emote to do so. The rest of the emotes are entirely dependent on the detail of the illusion, such as the amount of senses being manipulated at once.

Sensory Illusion is the act of using the void to subconsciously influence the mind of others through a mage's frame of reference. This 'frame of reference' consists of experiences, feelings, sensations, and sights that the caster themselves have experienced in the material world. And the casted illusions, despite depicting a sense of realism, have no effect on the material world (for example, casting an illusion of a building burning down, but once you finish casting the building still stands). For this reason, a caster must ensure their illusion is believable or else the target can reject it for lack of logic. (for example, casting an illusion of someone being stabbed, but they feel nothing, only see it) A target who is open to being casted on may instinctually choose whether or not to accept the illusion. However, it is important to bear in mind that no illusion is flawless, and more details do not always account for a lapse in logic.

Focus is another important part of maintaining an illusion. If an illusionist is disrupted during casting (i.e: they are stabbed, someone nearby shouts, someone shakes them), then it can break their connection to the void entirely and end the illusion.

    Glamours and Figments:

The first spell an illusionist begins learning is glamours. A glamour is a sensory illusion only effective on an existing object in the eyes of a target. Glamours can manipulate these existing objects within a fixed size that increases with each tier. This spell requires the least amount of mana and focus. As an illusionist progesses in tiers, they will gain the ability to glamour an illusion with multiple senses at once, require less focus when casting, and sustain illusions for a longer period of time with less difficulty.

Similar to it's cousin glamours, we have figments, which are sensory illusions contrived out of nothing. A figment is formed through the void, in which the caster webs a connection to the target. Since this figment is a creation of the void and does not exist in the material world, a glamour must be casted on it to stimulate other senses. Aside from that, there are very few limitations to figments besides the more emphasized amount of mana and concentration required to uphold this illusion. In later tiers, figments can even be used to create a disguise on oneself.

The difficulty of either of these spells is entirely dependent on the size, detail, proficiency, length of time, range, and focus of the illusion and the caster. The range and amount of senses an illusionist can manipulate increase with tiers, while the amount of focus and mana required to upkeep an illusion decrease with tier progression.

    Casting Mechanics:

Single-target: The simplest form of casting which alters the perception of only one person in any way the illusionist sees fit. This target must be in the illusionists line of sight.

Multi-target (T3+): The weaving of a mental web across the void to cast illusionry onto select targets. It can be used combatively to a limited extent, with the maximum people allowed for your tier being halved due to focus requirements.

Broadcast: The weaving of a dynamic mental web across a certain area, the illusions are transmitted to select targets in the area. The limitations being walls higher than 3m. This can not be used combatively.

    Other Important Redlines:

    Spoiler

    - Sensory Illusion is not and cannot be used as mind control

    - Tells must be emoted, with the intensity increasing with the difficulty of the illusion

    - No complete invisibility

    - Illusions do not affect the physical world

    - No unbreakable illusions

    - Only the target can see the contrived illusion, not the illusionist

Are there different sections or subsections of magic? Can those be elaborated upon?

Nothing that hasn't been covered above.

Can you give an example of a casting emote, of a spell of your choice?

Lorilei spun a grip around the balcony's handlebars, a finger twitching as her gaze lingered over the crowd below.

[!] A vision weaved of malicious intent arrived in the mages mind. With the locking of a gaze, her intricacies projected onto a lone crowd-stroller.

/msg lonely_man [!] The next time you blink, your eyes fail to open. Your vision consumed by an infinite blackness, bar a distant beam of light.

[!] The man lifted both hands to his eyes in a feeble panic. To others, however, his eyes would appear wide open. The man began running forward, towards the beam of light, before quickly slamming into a wall.

Lorilei contained a cackle, breaking eye-contact with the man and dispelling her illusion. His sight would return to her normal, and her day had been made.

/msg lonely_man [!] As the man made contact with the wall, his vision would miraculously restore itself.

Can you give an example of a teaching-emote (interacting with another) of a spell of your choice?

"Today will serve as your first official lesson. We will begin with the use of glamours."

A student, eager to begin their work, places full attention on the speaker.

"Glamours are illusionry cast on objects that exist within the material realm - our realm," She produces a coin then, holding out in a flattened palm towards the student, "I want you to first form a connection. Like I said, focus on it. As you stare into the coin, imagine a link forming between you, me, the item, and the void."

The student stares at the coin with great intensity, a few sparks of blue circling their hand.

    "Now, make the coin red."

The student pauses for many moments, the sparks of blue growing in intensity as their concentration increased.

    "Focus. Imagine it red."

In the eyes of the teacher, the gold coin would flash red, "Very good."

The illusion lasted momentarily, as the student dropped their connection the moment their teacher spoke, a bead of sweat running down their forehead.

"It is a good starting point. As you progress, it will require less energy for you to maintain simple glamours. With that, you will also be able to manipulate more senses.. though that's all talk for later. Let's take a break." And with that, the lesson was concluded.

Say your student powergames during or after teaching, how do you reprimand that?

I will inform them why/how what they did was powergaming, and show them the right way they should've roleplayed the scenario. I would also go back over the redlines and capabilities within their tier and make sure they understand it fully. If the powergaming continues, especially if purposeful, then I would report it to LT and even consider dropping them as a student.
