  1. The Order of the Unbowed:

The Order of the Unbowed is an order with a mix of veteran soldiers and experienced sailors in the most northern region of Haense, the County of Ayr. The order is sworn directly to House Baruch, and ensures protection over their land and subjects. In war time, the order serves as the fighting force of House Baruch though when aboard ship, the men may adopt a more relaxed role. Taking part in whale hunts is a frequent part of the life within the order; the hunts being a major part of Baruch tradition.

Though many members of the order have earned the title of battle-hardened warriors, the Order on a whole - due to its recent creation - is yet to be deployed in battle. Many of the members hold accolades and great respect within Ayr; Harold Baruch, the man who slew the great whale slumped on Ayr’s shore, being one of the leading figures within the Order.

    Ranking Structure

    Kommandant:

The Count of Ayr, and the overlord of the region. This title comes with the typical respects held by a Lord, with any man holding this title capable of both accumulating additional respects and titles. His word is law within the Order, and disobedience is not an option.

    Freyr:

The Baron of Laval, a trusted advisor to the Kommandant. Again, this title comes with the typical respects held by a Lord. His word is highly valued within the Order; his word holding the same authority of the Kommandant in his absence.

    Hersir:

The elite leader of the Order. This man has earned his title and reputation; the scars obtained from this being present across his body. This is a veteran of battle, a man who has felt the spray of blood on his face. This man has been given control over the Baruch fleet, flagship, and infantry to act on behalf, and in the interest, of House Baruch.

    Merkismathr:

These individuals have served House Baruch faithfully for a number of years. They are brutal warriors and excellent commanders of the ship. They are tasked with the running of an individual ship, and ensuring their crews needs are tended to.

    Aesir:

The right hand man of the Hersir. Often, though not always, a man of middle age. This man has proven himself as a worthy warrior and his efforts have been noticed. As a form of retirement, this man serves as the voice between crew and captain and goes about the day to day running of the flagship. Due to his supreme combat ability, it is fitting for him to train new recruits for appointment onto either the flagship or other Baruch ships.

    Huskarl:

These individuals have proven themselves as both fierce warriors and elite sailors. They are battle hardened and have taken part in numerous sea related activities whilst in the service of House Baruch. Though not officers, in times of war these individuals may be called upon to gather small raiding parties from amongst the lower ranks. During peace times, these individuals have the authority to call together a hunting party to hunt down a nearby beast; be that on land or sea.

    Berserker:

These men have proven themselves to be a cut above the rest. Though they may not have partaken in any battle as of yet, they have demonstrated their potential to become a fierce warrior. It is commonplace for Berserker’s to encourage the lower ranks to engage in wrestling matches and various other contests of personal strength, allegedly in order to offer recommendation to the commanders for eligible recruits though most likely in order to place bets and entertain themselves.

    Himthiki:

These men have taken the first step to achieving glory under the wings of House Baruch. They have sworn to protect and uphold Baruch values and their bloodline. These men reside within the flagship or in their personal homes in Ayr.

    Thrall:

Fresh from the towns, taverns, and fields, these individuals have scant militaristic abilities. They reside in the barracks within Saints Rest (the capital of Ayr), as the Order’s code dictates that they must not step onto a ship until adequately trained to the rank of Himthiki. Due to the Aesir being aboard the flagship, if it is out of port, the Thralls are put to work within the County; tilling the fields and tending the livestock.

    Gamesmen:

Within the Order, there are specific jobs that need to be completed. Be that in the administration, or the achievement and sustainability of a healthy crew.

    Cook: (Empty)

“A man must no’ leave port on an empty belly” - Count Eirik Baruch

The Cooks are there to ensure that the crew are fed and watered.

    Roster Keeper: (Filled)

The priority of the Roster Keeper is to ensure that all members of the Order are accounted for. They work alongside the Quartermaster and take note of those who do not attend drills or other training sessions.

    Quartermaster:(Empty)

The primary job of the Quartermaster is to ensure that every member of the Order is well fitted with armour and weaponry. They take stock checks of all materials and assist in the allocation of resources across both the Order and the County itself.

    Master-at-Arms:(Filled)

The Master-at-Arms is the epitome of the standards within the Order. He is tasked with the training of the new recruits and running drills.

    Medic: (Empty)

The job of the Medic is to treat insured Ordermen. They are well versed in medicine and the healing arts that ensure the health of the Order.

    Honorary titles:

Honorary titles are titles which hold no official weight in the Order, but command respect. They are often given to those who have done exceptional deeds both in and out of the Order.

    Master of the Hunt:

The Master of the Hunt is a title given to an individual on the basis of their passion for the art of hunting, paired with their ability to successfully track and kill a great beast.

Current holder: Lord Hughes. F. Pasquier, uncle to Count Eirik.

    Anti-Orca:

The Anti-Orca is a title that is given to the individual who, in the most recent whale hunt, slew the great beast. This is arguably the most prestigious title to hold within the Order, as the entirety of the County of Ayr partake in whale hunting.

Current holder: Lord Harold Baruch, brother to Count Eirk.

    Saints Son:

This title is mostly held by the Baruch family or their relatives. It is awarded for remarkable service to the Cannonist Church, be that through direct or indirect service.

There are currently no holders to this title.

Last holder: High Pontiff Everard III (Bernard Baruch), uncle to Count Eirik.

    Sworn shield:

Sworn shields can be any member of the Order who Count Eirik has deemed able enough to defend him personally. These individuals are fierce warriors with little to no fear.

Current holders: Lord Augustus Pasquier, cousin to Count Eirik, and Vladan Dobrolovich, a loyal bannerman to House Baruch.

    Champion of Ayr:

The Champion of Ayr is someone who has proved their martial prowess in tournament.

  2. Arthur Roswell looks down from the seven skies.

"My coat of arms was a black crane on a crimson and gold shield." He states to his cousin, Oliver. "He is my grandson, but he is only a bastard and he holds no claim to my name." He chuckles lightly as he had frequently done in life. "He even sided with a ******* Staunton. He is the only man to come from Istria who liked the Stauntons." He then walks into the seven skies tavern to reminisce with Bryce Vimmark about their shared dream of genociding House Staunton.

  3. Eirik Baruch reads the letter, rage growing inside his belly at the fact that his House was not listed. He lifts himself from the chair in his chambers and exits his keep. He paces to the kennels where he proceeds to furiously beat his pet kha cub. "Its yer fault!" Screamed the young baron, as he hoofed the demoralised and battered cat across the yard. Young Eirik's rage begins to fade; the beating of the cub being somewhat therapeutic to him.

  4. Eirik and Harold Baruch approach the city on horseback; a dull, lifeless cloud hanging above it. They trot through the streets to the keep, watching the faces of the people who mourned their late King. As they reach the gates, the identical pair dismount and tie up their horses before moving slowly through the courtyard towards the doors. The pair walk the length of the throne room, stopping at the feet of their new King, Andrik. "We offer our deepest condolences fer teh loss of yer father, Andrik. The man was the epitome of greatness, and stepped in fer us after teh loss of our father." They both drop to one knee. "We promise tae do yer the same loyalty and service we did yer father. House Baruch, an' all its assets are yours teh command, in war and in peace. Us, and those who descend from us will forever be faithful to House Barbanov." The pair stand, moving off to the St Karlsburg Cathedral to light a candle for their high regarded late King.

  5. The young Lord Baruch and his brother, Harold, hear of the tragic news brought by the royal messenger. A water haze blurs Eirik's vision; his eyes filling with tears. "It was expected, Eirik." His brother had told him, but the knowledge in Eirik's mind was overshadowed by the hope of his liege's recovery. The late King Petyr had helped the Baruch twins through their youth in Axios, and the pair thrived as a consequence of his intervention. Both Harold and Eirik had loved their liege like a father; this news bringing back memories of their actual father's departure from the world in Vailor. "We should go to Saint Karlsburg and reaffirm our vows to King Andrik." The pair moved silently to their chambers, collecting the relevant items for their short, but painful journey to seat of their much loved late Lord.

  6. The first Whale hunt of Voron

Residents of Voron sailing out to tackle the great beast.

On the morning of the 8th of Grand Harvest, 1577, the people residing within the walls of House Baruch spotted a huge whale off Voron’’s coast. As the Baruch house guard alerted Lord Eirik and his brother, Harold, the people of Voron began to prepare provisions and weaponry for the inevitable hunt that was to occur. Knowing of the Baruch brothers’ love for whaling, the people did not even need to be told to meet at the coastline, and instead rallied on the coast, preparing the ships, sharpening their harpoons, and explaining to the youth of Voron what would happen on their first Whale hunt.

As they manned their boats, and set out into the bay, the whale resurfaced. Whether or not the whale was hostile, the people did not care. Instead they lunged forward, releasing harpoons and other projectiles into the air in order to cause lasting damage to the great beast. As the first projectiles landed in the creature’s back and face, it submerged beneath the waves; its great body enveloped by the darkness beneath the surface. Lord Eirik and Harold Baruch ran about the ship, barking orders to the men manning it. Minutes seemed like hours, before the beast finally emerged from the waves and bashed the hull of the boat with its colossal cranium, rocking the ship and sending the crew skittering across the deck. Vladan Dobrolovich lost his balance and fell from the deck into the icy waters below, but was quickly rescued through the valiant efforts of Harold Baruch. When back on board, the young Augustus Pasquier managed to provide life-saving treatments for the man and was hailed a hero by the crew.

Dazed from the bash, the whale laid still on the waters surface; projectiles littering its oily skin. Lord Eirik began to tie rope to his harpoons in an effort to drag the beast into the shore and beach it for an easier kill, but the beast met its demise all too quickly when Harold released his final harpoon, striking the beast directly in the eye and killing it instantly. With the whale dead, the people of Voron began to throw roped harpoons at the whale, tying the rope to the masts, whilst the helmsman steered the boat and the whale to shore. When on shore, the people of Voron began to extract meat, bone, and blubber from the mighty corpse to be fashioned into gifts for the friends of House Baruch.

Upon their return to the keep, the servants began to salt the meat before leaving it in the ice rooms to preserve its flavour. The following day, the people of Haense gathered in the halls of Baruch to toast the fruitful hunt that House Baruch had received the day before. The Lords and Ladies of Haense dined on whale meat, a delicacy that only House Baruch had cared to enjoy previously.

    -House Patriarch-

Lord Eirik Baruch, Count of Ayr

    -House Hier-

    Otto Marius Baruch

    -House Standing-

House Baruch is currently a vassal to the House of Barbanov, within the Duchy of Haense. They control the Barony of Voron, the title derived from the name of their ancestor, Voron ‘The Hammer’ Rovin, King of Hanseti, and the County of Ayr, a title previously held by St Otto of Vanderfell. Serving beneath the Baruchs with the Barony of Laval is House Pasquier; its current patriarch being the uncle of Count Eirik Baruch. Being a relatively young house, claiming heritage from such men as St Otto of Vanderfell and Blessed Marius Baruch, and as such, their marital ties are few. However, some betrothals have been arranged with a few houses of similar standing, including the Roswells of Istria and the Pasquiers of Riveryn.

    -House Lore-

The Baruchs are inhabitants of the snowy hinterlands of the realm, donning furs and seal skins to live comfortably in their climate.

Eirik Baruch grew very fond of whaling during his travels across Orenia, and frequently takes his house guard on such excursions when a whale has been spotted off the Haensic coast. Many of the inhabitants of Ayrcarry small daggers fashioned from whale bone, as well as creating decorative items from the same material.

  10. John Roswell takes the letter from the man. He quickly scans the words on the page, laughing at the pettiness of his younger brother. He hands the note to his cousin, sharing the laugh. When the letter comes back to John, he tears it into pieces and puts it into the fire. "He doesn't even deserve a reply." He states, as he seats himself in front of the burning hearth.

  11. Writ of Disownment

As issued by John Roswell on the 10th of Snow’s Maiden, 1554

It shall be heard throughout all of Oren that the patriarch of House Roswell, first born son of the late Arthur Roswell, first of his name, the Duke of Istria in his own right, has, after much consideration, reached the conclusion to disown William Roswell, the third born son and sixth child of Arthur Roswell.

Not only has William insulted and disrespected those of his own House, and the friends thereof, but has deliberately and foolishly spread falsehoods and rumours in a desperate attempt to slander the Roswell name and that of other houses. He brings shame upon himself and his House. He works with the enemy of Oren, holding a protectorate state beneath the state of the Urukhai and paying for protection with illegitimate goods. His sexual improprieties with a woman before marriage, as well as his recent excommunication by the Church of the Canon, are other reasons why John Roswell, and his surrounding family,  have deemed it fit to disown him from the Roswell line.

    .

William Roswell has been given many chances to recant and to correct his unsavoury behaviour; but has thus far failed to show any form of improvement. He has refused to work alongside his family and live in harmony, after many attempts for reconciliation.  As such, there comes a time to draw the line. The Duke will no longer stand for such petty behaviour. Therefore, William shall be stripped of the Roswell name-- including all of its associated privileges. Himself and his offspring are not considered part of the Roswell line, and their names shall be struck from the Roswell family tree.

    Signed,

His grace, John Roswell. Duke of Istria
