  1. Honestly, I would like to see something related to the Undead. While events in Vailor have happened regarding monsters, I think it would be fun to see actual monsters being the cause of transition but not to the style of Athera. Like more of a large amount of monsters, ravishing the lands. They could have caused a chain of events leading to the destruction of Vailor. Internal dispute, destructive war, you name it. Then, they will be forced to leave these lands. Preferably by a boat.

  2. Ser Thorburn Grimbeorn sat on a tower observing the execution. Although his face showed no emotion, his last words addressing the knight did. "Farewell, Ser Caspar. May you find peace in the Seven Skies, for it seems you found none in this world..." After that he puts on his hood and exits the tower, blending in with the crowd.

  3. Inside Castle Lycan, a lone armoured individual seats inside his room, his sharpened gauntlets grazing the chair. He looks towards the setting sun, with a troubled mind. He finally sighs, and rises from his seat, the armour plates grinding against each other. He looks towards a Wolf Shaped Helm and a Black Bastard Sword, but shakes his head. He grabs a small shortsword, and gets down the stairs. "Time for a last ride it seems." he mutters.

    The Northern Research Guild

Founded by Ser Thorburn Grimbeorn, 1548

The Northern Research Guild was created with the purpose of giving those with bright ideas the chance to pool their knowledge and resources with others of similar capability to invent magnificent contraptions, discover new findings, and excel in their field of knowledge. People of all race and ethnicity are allowed and encouraged to join, should they meet the proper requirements. The guild’s base of operation is situated in Courland. Any member who joins that desires Housing may speak to Ser Thorburn Grimbeorn, founder and Head of the Guild.

    Information

Although the Guild is stationed in Courland, that does not mean it doesn’t take outside requests, information, or otherwise, so long as it is at friendly terms with Oren. The Guild will refuse to supply outside factions with weaponry or siege engines unless permitted.

The Guild is seperated into three departments, each specializing in some aspect of the known world. Each department may have their own sub-department, studying the likes of other or closely related fields of study. During certain projects, the departments may often collaborate with each other, each handling what the other does not. Researchers may also conduct projects of their own, and may even ask for assistance from other members.

    ~

    Department of Physical Studies
The Department of Physical Studies focuses on the inner workings of the physical world, studying the properties of nature and physical matter. The researchers of this department not only work experimentally, but theoretically, devising new ideas and notions, then testing them to prove their accuracy, or perhaps to discover otherwise.

    Department of Engineering
The Department of Engineering works to develop new machines and contraptions, often assisting the other departments in testing their theories, collaborating to invent new designs and useful tools. Not only do they serve this purpose, but this department also works to develop siege weaponry, also comprising of architects.

    Department of Magic
The Department of Magic studies the works and concepts of magic, ranging from the Arcane to the Dark Arts themselves (within boundaries). They may spend countless hours researching that which relates to the mysteries of magic, inluding abstract thoughts and ideas. This department may often send expeditioners to recover and study magical artifacts.

    ~

Members of the Guild are often given assignments or tasks, usually relating to that of the current Project. Major projects are assigned by either the Head of the Guild or the Head of Research, whilst minor ones are commissioned by the Heads of each department. Projects are given with the goal to develop something new or discover a new level of understanding.

Records are to be kept of each project briefly before, during, and the results. The records will be stored in the Hall of Records, which is open to all members of the Guild, researchers, and the curious. Non-recorded projects will be considered for personal interest, and the Guild shall refuse any affiliation.

    Chain of Command

    Head of the Guild
    Ser Thorburn Grimbeorn
The Head of the Guild is the one who coordinates everything inside the Guild. He delivers the project ideas, ensures that resources exist, hands out tasks and makes sure everything works like clockwork.

    Head of Research
    James Hawthorne Kyd
The Head of Research oversees and manages all the main departments. They will often deliver assignments, propose ideas, and participate in the workings themselves. The Head of Research also assumes command if the Head of the Guild is absent.

    Head of Magic

    N/A
The Head of Magic oversees the Magic Department. They specialize in the field of Magic, proposing ideas and assignments, and reporting to the Head of Research. They deliver word to and from the Head of Research, and may act as an advisor for future projects.

  7. War Never Ends.

It was the final night, the sky was  black.
The troops were still, waiting for an attack.
On top of the hill, with sword and shield.
Their breath was hitched, looking across  the field.
From the distance, lights could be seen.
Torches held by men, with a drive to win.
Drums and marches, they loomed ahead.
Through towns they passed, filling them with dead.
The troops couldn't wait for this nightmare to be stopped.
And that was when, the first stone was dropped.

The air was filled with smoke, it worsened the night.
The fires were shining, the sky was alight.
Nothing nice, from the eye could be seen.
Only blood and bone, only flesh and skin.
Mangled corpses, stripped of their steel.
They had no use for it, since they couldn't feel.
From afar, cries of sadness and dread.
Families on their knees, mourning their dead.
For they knew deep inside, what would impend.
War is like the times, it will never end.

  8. Ser Thorburn Grimbeorn reads the invitiation from his office in the Vigil's base. A small smile appears behind his wolf mask, nodding "So. Palaiologos, my fellow Akritian is getting married huh?" He rises from his seat "Well, I shall attend. No better way to say 'Congratulations' than being present." he mutters. He then exits the fortress to attend more business.

  10. Thorburn slams his armored fist on a wall, cursing loudly. He makes a motion towards the footman who brought the news to leave, frowning.

"Sir Richard, you were one of the greatest men I had the honor to meet. You taught me so much... ."

He lowers his head once, sighing and sending a prayer to the great general of the Vigil. He raises his head, nodding to himself

"Your teachings were not in vain. I promise you, I shall pass them down to the new members. I shall make them great, just like you made us great."

He summons a Footman and tells him to rally the men. They had work to do, he thinks while exiting the Hillside Keep.

  11. A Graceful Wedding

The Duchy of Courland looked like any other day. The sun was shining, melting the snow in the terrain  closest to the sea. Birds were chirping, their beautiful tune spreading throughout the North. Yet something was different.....

Today is a day of joy for Courland. The bells are ringing in the chapel of St. Adrian, located in Riga's square. The citizens have gathered for a rare event: the marriage of one Axel Burchoff and one Laila Roselia. A feeling of happiness spreads through the church. There, up in the altar, the newly wed couple, are thanking their friends with smiles on their faces. On their right, lies Thorburn Alexander, in his decorated suit and though his face may not show any emotion, the couple knew he was happy for them. The Duke of Courland and his wife, stood next to Thorburn, each with a smile on their face. On the couple's left where their closest friends and comrades. And even though the absence of Richard Halmund was noticeable, they knew he was happy for them from the seven skies. Behind the couple was Courland's bishop, and despite his serious look, his shining eyes said enough of how pleased he was. The rest of the guests were sitting in podiums, clapping loudly.

After the ceremony, the couple organized a feast in Dunwych Hold, with Thorburn's permission. The closest friends, comrades, and lords sat in the long table. Wine and ale, meat, vegetables and all sorts of foods lay on the table, for everyone to enjoy. The room was quite warm, due to the large fire burning in the fireplace. Richard's hound sat there, the old dog eating from a plate of meat, enjoying the warmth and pleasant atmosphere. The hall was lit, decorated with paintings and suits of armor holding polearms. The guests chatted loudly, laughter echoing through the hall. The couple sat in the center of the table, holding hands. They conversed with the guests, talking about future plans. Suddenly, Axel raised an arm, silencing the room. He rose, smiling.

"My friends! I am grateful that each and every one of you came today, to celebrate my special day. This is a moment to be remembered, and although I am a brute on the field, but I would never feel like one around my friends, as I'd never hold any of you on sword point.. I've been waiting many years for this moment, and you ought to know that I will never forget the moment I got to marry the woman of my dreams, and celebrate with all of my friends. Now, although many friends aren't here today, we all know their souls are with us, and are bound to us. May the Seven Skies keep my passed away friends, and your's in shape! This is a special day, and I thank each and every one of you, and I believe so does my wife."

Axel would say, turning to Laila as he holds her hand tight, smiling to her as she stands up. After the speech, the crowd roars with claps and cheering as Axel sits down along with Laila. The two would be smiling as they sit down, knowing that this was their lucky day.

  12. A hunt in the snow

No matter how many times you blink, you will only see one thing. Snow. Snow covering the entire North. For some it would be a welcoming and even pleasant experience. But for the soldiers of Courland, it was routine. Their home was full of snow, and it didn’t bother them at all. For others, it would be a hindrance, a way for nature to obscure their path. But for the Eagle’s Vigil, it was what signified their land. Nature’s way of welcoming them and showing them the way. And that is what they did. Five soldiers of the Eagle’s Vigil could be seen marching on the Eastern parts of the Duchy of Courland. They marched through the snowy plains, the tall forests and the towering mountains. They marched to complete their task: Find any troll and slay it. The rising rumors of trolls been sighted in that area destroying crops and killing animals proved enough for the Marshall of the Vigil to order a squad of men to investigate.

Suddenly, they stopped. General Richard Halmund looked around, observing the area. He then turns to his men. “This is the area. Here is where the trolls supposedly stay.” He then turns to ‘The Wolf’. “Alexander, you will take Georgios and * . You shall search North of here. I shall take Axel and search south.” He sends a glance to the sky, the sun right above them. “ Meet us here when the sun sets. Any questions?” Thorburn shakes his head “No Sir!” Richard nods, he gestures to Axel and they rush off to the south. Thorburn turns to his group “ We shall search in the wedge formation. Keep close to each other. Always mind your surroundings. If you see or hear anything, say so immediately. Let’s move out men!” The soldiers nod. They then fall into formation and rush north.

Time passed as the group searched the entire area. They checked every cave they found with no results. They searched every opening, without finding any sign. Thorburn sighed as he looked upon the sky. The sun was beginning to set. He then looked towards an opening, large enough to fit a troll. “Alright. We shall check that opening and we shall return.” he mutters. The group enters the opening, only to discover a horrendous sight. The opening was in fact a large series of tunnels, and it was filled with bones of men and animals. Blood and filth was all they could smell in the cave. “It’s here.” Thorburn mutters. Suddenly, an enormous creature appeared from one of the tunnels, larger than any man or orc. It had dark green scales for skin, with  scars in many different areas of his body. It’s eyes were a sickly yellow, full of hatred and madness. It had enormous fangs, capable of piercing even iron. It’s entire body was covered in muscles, and it’s large arms looked like they could break stone effortlessly. It’s fingers ended in sharp claws. The troll roared to the band. “This is quite a troll, and it is almost nightfall so it can’t turn into stone. You two, I shall distract it. I want you to fall back and fire arrow after arrow upon it” he says taking out his aurum arming sword  and his ferrum short sword. The two nod and jump back preparing their bows. The troll started walking towards him, slowly gaining speed. “On my mark...” he says bending his legs. The troll was now nine feet away, his arm raised ready to squash him. “Now!” he says rolling to the right and swinging….

It was a long and tiring battle. The cave was filled with cracks, arrows and chunks of ferrum. Thor panted lightly, tossing his broken aurum blade to the ground. His tunic was filled with blood and dust, some parts ripped. His armor was cracked in many different places, while his right arm had no protection anymore, and it was bleeding in many different areas. His helmet was partially destroyed, blood flowing down his face forcing him to keep his now visible eye closed.  He turned his head to his men. They were in better condition, but not fine. Georgios  tunic was ripped from a slash of the troll, and his pauldrons were destroyed, blood flowing from his shoulders. Bastian had his right arm squashed by the troll, leaving it with nasty bruises, while his rerebrace was ruined. He then looked at the troll. It lay on a corner, blood flowing out of it like a river. Thor’s iron shortsword pierced the middle of his chest, while part of his aurum blade was stuck on his stomach. Arrows were sticking all over his body, while a few daggers were on top of his head. Thor approached it, pulled his sword out and beheaded it. He placed the head on a leather sack, then attended the injuries of his men. “Are you all ready to return home?” he mutters while bandaging his arm. They slowly nod, and climb out of the opening. As they were walking, Thor once stopped looking back. His gaze was where the opening was. He shrugged and kept walking, ignoring the feeling still existing in his mind....

  13.

      The Duke’s Guard

‘Thump’. That is the repeated sound coming from Dunwych Hold every morning. Before the sun has fully appeared on the horizon, before the snow starts to fall, two males are training. One tall, muscular, the armor of the Vigil and his wolf shaped helm giving him an intimidating look. The other short, slim, wearing clothes fit for a noble under training. “Take a break.” says  Thorburn ‘the Wolf’ Alexander in a toneless voice, his hands behind his back. The small child pants, dropping his wooden rapier next to a training post. He rushes to his teacher.  “Mister Thor?.” The child asks. “Yes Lord Alexander?” “ Why do you train me?” Thor kneels down to his level “His Grace has given me the honor to protect the Ducal family with my dying breath. You learning how to fight means I help to protect you.” “Can you tell me what more it means to be a Duke’s Guard?” Thor simply ruffles the boy’s hair “That is a story for another time. Now back to training.”  he says rising and crossing his arms. Alexander Staunton nods with a small smile, rushing to get his blade.

A man sitting on the roof of the keep looks at the two with a small smile on his face. Inspiration flooding his mind, he picks up his book and quill, and starts writing.

‘What is a Duke’s Guard? Just what does this position imply? Is it a privilege? Is it a promotion? No, it is more than that. Much more than that. It is a call. A call to serve, a call to protect. It is such a difficult task, that only three members of the Eagle’s Vigil are allowed to hold this position. To carry the burden of focusing all your efforts in protecting your Duke and his family with your life. All three of the members have taken a celibacy vow, forbidding themselves of getting married or having a relationship. They are the personification  of sacrifice in the Vigil.

Members of the Duke’s Guard are the elite in the Vigil. To even be considered to become a member, you must have survived many wars, and your skills must shine through among all other candidates. By committing themselves to intense training programs which require them to constantly put their life on the line, they are able to forge an unbreakable will. On top of that, you must be a perfect example of loyalty, discipline, bravery, wisdom and cooperation. They must aquire the combat prowess to master a wide variety of weapons and unarmed combat. They also require to be well-educated on field medicine. They are expected to have the cunningness needed to learn how to survive and fight with anything they can muster. Finally, they are demanded to learn the empire's laws by heart and have proper manners since they will be accompanying their lord everywhere.

In short, a Duke’s guard is one of the most skillful warriors in the Northern core. Serving the Duke with unwavering loyalty, going against armies without a sign of indecision and facing death himself without hesitation. For your honorable cause, I salute you.’

The man sighs in content. Before closing his book, he signs with his name on the bottom of the page.
