What is roleplaying?:
Taking on the role of a character or persona for the purpose of playing a game or developing a story via any chosen medium.
What is metagaming?:
Using alternative methods in gameplay that essentially goes beyond the intended limits in the game. This is typically done for personal gain or to gain an advantage over peers.
What is powergaming?:
Usually called 'godmoding', powergaming is a method used by roleplayers to enahnce their characters in either a way to surpass other players or to achieve a more powerful status by skipping necessary steps in the progression to said status.

It took a great deal of effort to leave his past behind him on the deck of Weatherlight when he arrived at the new realm. He peered out across the harbor and enjoyed the sight of people going on about their lives in contentment. It was in high contrast to the darkness the plagued him. Behind those ruby hued eyes was a pain he smothered daily, refusing to let it reach the light of day.
The home he left behind was becoming a distant memory. The path he walked led to horrific acts that he thought were all performed with good intentions. After all, if bad things are done for the right reasons, are they still bad? The answer was of no consequence now. He went to unspeakable lengths in attempt to bring her back from the throes of death. Melioration was his only hope, though he still was not sure when he crossed the line from light to dark. Was there any difference anymore? The image of what returned to the world instead of his beloved was burned into his memory.
Aeron blinked away the thought, clinging to the hope every cheerful face brought him. This was a new world and a new life. This was a chance to start over and leave the nightmares where they lay. The satchel of papers and scrolls hung heavily over his shoulder. His leather and cloth garb fit him well but could only be described as humble and he would have nothing more. Long tassles of his graying, brown hair played at his periphery. A moment's thought was given to the color his hair had taken after so much strain. His focus was quickly returned to the treasure of academia he had in the bag and what he might do with it here.
He took a deep breath and stepped forward, enjoying the sent of the fresh seawater and mingled aromas of trade goods around the port. It could be the beginning of something wonderful, he thought with a grin. It had to be...
Personality Traits:
Aeron is a kind-hearted individual with a troubled past. A lot was taken from him over the course of a relatively short period. His temper is nothing notable but stands up for a cause or person that deserves it. He is most definitely an intellectual. Anything from existential discussions to properties in alchemy keep him going for hours. He loves easily but forces himself to ignore it after everything he's been through. Death and loss have caused him to feel as though nothing and no one is worth getting attached to for they will only be lost or die.
Ambitions:
Aeron’s ambitions are to further his study of medicine/alchemy and the similarities between both the light and the dark sides of his practice. His studies began with healing and restoration but when the woman he loved fell ill, the product of his work became something much grimmer. Her death prompted a sporadic decision when he tried to bring her back using a practice darker than he realized. Now he dedicates himself to using what he knows, the best way he knows how.
His continued studies are not purely academic. He longs to find out when the practice of healing and medicine crosses a line into something that questions morality and why it was such a seamless transition when he committed such unspeakable acts.
Strengths/Talents:
Aeron is very charismatic as is customary for his chosen practice. Dealing with people has always been easy and bedside manner is clearly a treasure for any kind of apothecary.
He is also strong-willed, determined to follow through with any task. This compliments his fighting ability. He isn't what would be considered an adept warrior but has learned to defend himself with weapons and armor. Events in his past required him to learn or be killed (serving as apothecary to a former liege and his men while on the field during skirmishes).
Weaknesses/Inabilities:
Aeron tends to feel compassion for most people and it dictates how he reacts to situations. For those that he cares about to any degree, he will take a bolt to the chest. Adversely, those that he has a distaste for he tends to wish the worst. The only thing that takes exception to his emotions is the practice of medicine. His oath to save lives after his failures surpasses all.
Appearance (List the extra details of your characters appearance, IE; height & weight):
Aeron stands a good six feet tall and nothing more with broad shoulders and a mediocre build. There was a good amount of time he spent with the armies of his liege to practice the arts of medicine and alchemy. This contributed to a lasting stature customary to those in service to the crown but his abilities aren't nearly that of any warrior.
The eyes are what possess an almost ethereal look, with a color that could only be described as darkened rubies. Despite the irregular color, they seem to captivate those he comes to meet and are arguably his most appealing feature. Even so, the rubies are set behind a hardened visage with a shroud of stray hairs and a curt beard. It was sometimes a struggle but he was careful to stay groomed enough so that the beard and long hair did not seem unkempt.
