Realm Government Structure Explanation: Hyspia is a hereditary absolute monarchy. The ruling monarch of Hyspia is the Viceroy. All final decisions in the realm fall to the Viceroy as his decrees are absolute. The succession of the Hyspian throne follows Absolute Cognatic Primogeniture. The Eldest living child of the Viceroy shall inherit the throne. The Viceroy is advised by an appointed council whom advise the Viceroy and help govern the realm through each of their departments. This council is dubbed "El Consejo". The council is headed by the hand of the Viceroy: El Gran Canciller. The Gran Canciller, by the will and blessing of the Viceroy helps lead the other members of the council and their departments: El Colonel (Minister of Defense and War), El Ministro del Pais (Minister of Foreign Affairs), El Jucticiero (Attorney General and Justiciar), Ministro de la Patria (Home and Interior Minister), and the Gran Mayodormo (Treasurer and Head Steward).

How does this settlement offer a unique niche not already found in an existing polity on the server?: The idea of a farfolk nation, albeit numerous, have never come into complete fruition since the end of Arcas. Hyspia is intended to be a remedy to that. Hyspia provides players an aspect, taste and rich experience in the farfolk subculture of the LOTC human community. A culture which has developed for over four years.

How does your settlement tie to the greater lore and narrative set by the community on LotC?: Hyspia has been a part of the human lore since Arcas. It has interacted with the likes of Oren, Savoy, Sutica, Balian, Aaun and Haense. The Hyspian people have contributed to the human political and cultural climate of LOTC in many ways and we hope to continue to do so under a unified banner.

Have you ever run a settlement on LoTC before and what experience do you have with leadership within roleplay communities among the current groups of players?: Yes, I ran Stran, a Duchy under Aaun. My character was the patriarch of House Ivanovich and the Duke of Stran. I also have experience in managing a nation's government. I was the Amiratus (Archchancellor) of Balian for about four months.

Do you understand the metrics for maintaining activity and the grounds for settlement removal, along with the standing polity cap? Yes I understand.

Even with that being true, it's a roleplay server and this is an attempt by non-bilinguals to imitate bilingualism because it's an inherent part of their character - obviously they're going to get it wrong just like how most other things on the server are portrayed inaccurately. It's strange and unusual to expect everyone to be a linguistic expert of code-mixing and then to call it appropriation when it's one of the most widely used languages in the world. Which culture is it supposed to be appropriating? Spanish? Mexican? Argentinian? American

Whether people choose to like it or not doesn't matter as much as a broader concept like appropriation, though, because that's just an opinion basis. People be as bitter as they like or don't like and that shouldn't really affect wider decisions too much. It might be wrong grammatically - but that's just being grammar police which I don't get the fascination personally.

cool post... although cultural appropriation isn't really a problem. You are talking about a roleplay server... where people pretend to be crippled, blind, other genders and other ethnicities. People larp as germans and spaniards/latinos and chinese and japanese and that's what RP is about...

You aren't culturally appropriating Ukranian or Russian culture by naming your characters slavic names, or wearing a skin that looks eastern european or naming minecraft items after food from either of these cultures.

I also think that telling people not to mix english/spanish "common" and "hyspian" is nonsensical . Yes it sounds rather silly, but if your character says "Que? I can't hear you" It's not hurting anyone. Even things like "Cual is tu name?" aren't bad, they're just a bit painful for native speakers, but german players don't complain about the waldenians butchering their accents so why should we.

Before we begin a debate here on this subject. I would like to advise everyone to completely read the document, take a step back and rethink the points we wish to argue. A lot of us here could use a lesson in proper argumentative writing because the main issue and question presented here is:

How can we, as a community, portray a culture without coming off as too condescending, even when it is not our intention to be?

But instead the arguments here are on tangent but not completely related to the main idea which is being presented in this document.

    ---

The arguments that I am seeing here are taking one aspect of the post, and then construing it to fit a strawman conception in an attempt to rationalize the point that the person who is viewing this document is trying to make.

It is fine to use spanish nouns in your dialogue. It is fine to use subjects, adjectives, and nouns in your dialogue.

But, it becomes a little condescending when one replaces english pronouns or verbs with spanish.

"How are tu today?" does not sound good.

"I am corriendo. (I am running)" Also does not sound well.

We want to clarify that these things should be avoided.

    ---

The verse "When you are using dialogue in your emotes you should either use full Hyspian (Spanish) or full common (English). Please do not combine the two." Pertains to the examples of incorrect usage of accent in dialogue as I have stated above. That is what we are clarifying. We did not explain it in such technically nuanced terms because a reasonable fact finder, upon reading that sentence and then the sentence below it, "On occasion you may use Hyspian Nouns ex. Mija, Mijo, to add flavor to your roleplay but please be mindful of how you use them. As stated we are looking for Cultural appreciation." should be able to infer the main gist that is being conveyed in the post.

Hopefully this clears up any confusion.

    To the Hyspian people,

It is time for us to raise our blades and prepare our steeds. We shall meet at the Viceroyal manor in Valdev. The Viceroy-Emeritus has been captured by godless individuals in the name of greed and chaos. And in consequence, they have the audacity to send a note of demands:

    A Blood-Stained Ransom

This reprehensible act shall not be taken lightly. Nor will we bow to their avaricious demands for ransom.

They dare to threaten me and my family. They dare to mock us, the Hyspian community, and expect for us to be complacent to their demands. Little do they know that they have merely poked and prodded the goliath into mere annoyance and filled it with terrible resolve.

From this day forth, no negotiations shall be made for the return of Francisco Javier de Pelear amongst these faithless terrorists.

My father will return with our efforts. But in the process, no mercy will be shown to the culprits.

To the avaricious abductors I say to you:

We will find you. We will save Francisco; And when we do, you shall not be saved.

To my fellow Peers and Citizens,
Last Saint’s Week, I retired from my lifelong service to Balian and His Majesty’s government. However, I must now put the laurels of my titles to rest; for within these two years since my retirement I have found my health to be ailing. Truth be told, my memory has been fading since the final years of my time as Amiratus. I find it harder to remember newer names and sometimes older names day by day. Smaller details escape my mind quite easily now as well. My own and my wife’s physical wellbeing has also waned. Just recently, I have found myself confined to my bedchambers due to an incident where I lost consciousness from a weaker heart, perhaps the stress I have accumulated over the years has finally caught up to me. The deterioration of my mind and the subsequent physical deterioration of my health has led me to realize that my life may soon be reaching an end. Thus, as I stay within my chambers, I must now take the necessary steps to pass on the mantle of the Ruthern household and my titles as count to my heir.

    To Demetrius,
Demetri, I entrust the holdings of my title and estate to you. You have grown into a responsible man and a diligent Admiral. It is time that you now carry the mantle of the Ruthern family. I know you will achieve more than what you believe. I know for a fact, that you will make a name for yourself and for the family. Good luck, son.

    To Rhys,

You have done a lot for Ruthern and for the Kingdom. Your dedication to serving the people by tending to their health has earned you a rightful place and rightful recognition amongst our nation and our family. Regarding the holdings of real property, I leave the bakery in your holding to tend to and own. It shall be separate from Demetrius’s holdings. I hope you continue to help the business grow through your talented cooking and baking skills.

    Signed,

THE RIGHT HONORABLE, Gaius var Ruthern, Count of Marsana, Ambassador of Balian.

THE RIGHT HONORABLE, Mariya Elizabeth Ruthern, Countess of Marsana.

  6. Cesar II, the now Viceroy of Hyspia stood beside his father when he delivered this announcement after their prayers of mourning for their late grandmother. A lot now rested on his shoulders; yet he stood firm. There was much work that needed to be done. Hyspia shall be more than what it is now. He had ambitions for his people which must be fulfilled.

    "Viva Hyspia."

  7. Cesar II de Pelear is very happy for the Royal couple! He enjoyed the wedding-even if it was interrupted for a short moment by a vampiric darkspawn-and the exhilarating tournament that subsequently followed the wedding ceremony. The Hyspian Prince also enjoyed the time spent acquainting himself and his family with the Prince and Princess of Talarnor and the guests from all across Aevos. It was truly an eventful day!

  8. When the news reached Cesar, the man fell silent. Another woman, another maternal figure in his life had passed. First it was his mother and now his grandmother, the warmest soul of their family. There were so many things he wanted to ask her, so many stories he wanted to hear from her. Yet now, she is gone.

As Cesar read the letter whilst beside his wife, a shaky sigh escaped his lips.

“Ojalá hubiera podido pasar más tiempo contigo…para mostarte cuánto te amo.”

    TO THE REALM OF CANONDOM,

It is with a heavy heart, the House of Ivanovich announces the passing of Ser Jan Arpad Ivanovich. The founder and the former Duke of Stran has passed away peacefully in his sleep after his years-long dedication to the furthering of the Raevir cause and the founding of a home for the Raevir people. Jan spent his life, starting at the age of 6 honing his skills and knowledge of the Raevir culture and ways of living. He strived to live to the ideals of Saint Theodosius, Saint Arpad, and of the first Strannik. Throughout his whole life, his dream was to gather his fellow Raevir brethren and start a home to see his culture survive and thrive. The great Ivanovich has finally accomplished that as Stran flourishes from the foundations he had set for its beginnings.

The Ivanovich family shall host a funeral for the former titan of the Raev as they enter a Saint’s Week of mourning for their former head of house. Ser Istvan Ivanovich, current Duke of Stran is now the de jure patriarch of the Ivanovich Dynasty. We ask our friends and allies to pray for Ser Jan Ivanovich’s soul so that he may rest well in the seven skies.
