What is roleplaying?: Roleplay is when you write, speak and act as a character.
What is metagaming?: Metagaming is the use of external knowledge to give your character information they would not know in a rp manner. Example would be that there has been an assasination of the king in distant lands, my character would not know about this till a messenger returns with the news, I can then not go around shouting the king is dead as i would not have that information.
What is powergaming?: Powergaming is when you give your player a huge advantage, An example could be Jack swings his sword at his opponent and his head fall to the floor with a thud. This has not given the other player a chance to react and attempt to dodge or parry.

Now you actually make your character - be creative but stay reasonable! Make sure they make sense and that they follow lore. Try to come up with a character that you actually want to play.

Born in a moderate sized village he was born as a son of the local hunter. As he aged through his childhood he was taught how to fire a bow and skin animals although lacked the skills to fight with a sword. He followed his father through his days of hunting and soon got curious behind the trade of his fathers profession. He listened to his conversations with the men at the market and started to look at how profit was made. At the age of 15 his father died during one of his hunting expeditions. He was killed by a wild animal but it was never discovered which one it was. During the years without his father he had to work hard by dividing his time working and hunting to provide for his mother and himself. Without his father to teach more hunting skills he started getting injuries from mistakes he made with the bow.
As a teen he got a job as a trader's assistant doing most of the carrying. He followed his mentor around the various villages located in the area and saw how each village produced one type of product and then sold it or traded it for something they needed. As he grew older he dreamed of owning his own store or tavern and selling the best product in the area. He left his home at 19 and set off to the city's. He has been doing jobs helping traders and tavern owners and tuning his skills to one day buy his own store and become a respected merchant. One day maybe even have nobility visit his store. He now wanders the city looking for friendships and contacts which could one day help him. He looks for farmers and merchants, guilders and brewers.
