At least Marion was spelled correctly once," he uttered, folding the parchment and setting it upon the shelf above his workspace. "And 'at her side'? Please. I steer. End of story."

A short hum is emitted from the nostrils of the Captain of The Marion, his icy gaze drifting over the missive several times. After a moment's contemplation, the parchment was creased, folded, and slipped into the innards of his coat, the man making his way to the top deck.

Above the din of bustling crewmen, pounding hammers, and the occasional quiet troll of a shanty, the Captain bellowed out a short, "Gather round, all!" A wave of silence washed over the ship, each crewman eyeing the Adunian with varying degrees of interest. "It seems we've been summoned," Alikos announced, hands folding behind his back as he peered down towards his crew from the helm, some of those below uttering some sound of intrigue. "Ready yourselves to raise anchor. We sail soon."

A triumphant cry sounded out from the crew, the loud chorus haul shanty raising shortly thereafter as the crew of The Marion readied themselves to head for the summit.

     The face of the Count, lying still in that damp, dark cave had been burned into the mind of the sailor. Despite the location and circumstances, he thought that the now-dead man looked oddly... peaceful. Content... Completely at odds with his surroundings. The privateer sat in silence within his quarters on his ship, spinning a golden doubloon upon his desk, the faces bearing the maw of a wolf, surrounded by a serpent devouring its own tail.

     His thoughts wandered then, replaying the events of the night previous vividly in his mind -- From, the ruined, accursed settlement, the scent of rotten wood permeating the valley it rested in as the crunch of leaves and gravel sounded out from every foot fall... To the mines, too dark to see anything except the faint glint in the eyes of his companions and... the others residing in that quarry, and deeper within…

     The Heart.

     Alikos's ears had pricked up to the steady beating as soon as the part had entered the antechamber of the mine... Thump... Thump... Thump... His chest tightened, as if the beating of his own heart was attempting to synchronize with the rhythm that continuously pounded within his skull. At length, he steadied himself. He knew what he had signed up for. He had fought this creature before, or at least its spawn, by himself. And he had prevailed. And he did once more. Cleaving his way through countless, cave-dwelling monsters, side-by-side with his companions until they had reached it. The Heart. He was not expecting such an abominable sight. A gigantic, sickly lump of flesh, with something, someone, within.

     The mass of tissue was opened, and there, dead, was Nikolai Kortevich. The man, the friend, he had saved from this beast once before. Dead. And there was nothing he could have done. It was then, he knew he must see this through. And so, he took up one of his companion's axes, lifting it high above his head as he stood over the Count's body.

     "Forgive me, Master Kortrevich," he breathed. With that, the axe was swung. And lifted. And swung. And lifted. And finally, there, embedded in the head of the axe...

     The Tome.

"Druids. Psh," chucked an Adunian from his seat, legs kicked up on the table, a cigarette hanging from his mouth as he sprung his deck of cards between his hands. "Dey gon' regret dis, vraiment." With that, the man squared his cards, putting them away in a pocket, and jumped to his feet. He went to kick up his staff, catching it in a free hand. "Let's light dis candle."

A Dark Haired Adunian offered a disgusted scoff, smoke curling up from his nostrils as he flicked the ash from his cigarette. "Merde," he sighed as news of the slaughter of an innocent creature reached his ears. "Looks like we gon' have some fun, neh?" The man threw his cigarette to the ground, grinding his boot into the smoldering tobacco, a cracking a wry grimace.

Duncan of Kaminus would let out a low grumble as he eyed the poster. ”What the hell is this bullshit? Never trained anybody... Age old rivalry?” His face would fall upon reading the line “Best monster hunter known to man.” With that, the man would shake his head turning his back on the flyer. ”Anything for spectators, I guess. Couldn’t even get my damn name right.” After a brief moment, he’d mutter, ”What have I gotten myself into?”
