    Upon a scouting mission to the north, Philip de Honneur would receive news of the battle and the plea from a small bird. Quickly reading the message, Philip would sigh. “And thus ends my cousin’s Riviän dynasty. Perhaps the House of Honneur may fare well.” Thinking for a minute, Philip would state to himself, “Cousin, you must flee if you wish to live.”

    Briefly explain the lore behind this construct or creature:

             

    Religion

    The Hou-Zi practice two different religions, Shenjiao and Huajiao. My character, Guwen practices the religion of Shenjiao, which is the worship of the god king and his children. The god king, otherwise known as Hou-Shen, once ruled the Hou-Zi when he was granted sentience by the Daemon, Metzli. Because of his sentience, Hou-Shen was able to lead the Hou-Zi into a golden age with him on the throne as a god king while his three sons were seen as the embodiment of earth, wind, and water. It is believed by Hou-Shen has abandoned the mortal realm in order to form a great empire within the heavens known as the Heavenly Realm; a land populated by Hou-Zi who have passed on from the mortal world. Though Hou-Shen is known as the head god of the religion of Shenjiao, his three sons named Hou-Da, Hou-Xiao, and Hou-Wang are also part of the pantheon. The three sons of Hou-Shen represent the different subraces of the Hou-Zi. Hou-Da is the patron of the Hei-Zhu subrace. He is often associated with stability, patience, and strength. He is the patron of earth. Hou-Xiao is the patron of the Fei-Zhu subrace, and he is commonly associated with dexterity, gentleness, and healing. Finally, Hou-Wang is the patron of the Laobai-Zhu subrace, and he is commonly associated with freedom, adaptability, and wisdom. The Hou-Zi are commonly known to burn incense in order to summon the ancestral spirits of the Hou-Zi who are able to travel between the mortal and the heavenly realm. Sacrifice is also a part of the Hou-Zi society where a Hou-Zi will give up an item of luxury to Hou-Shen.

     

    History

    Long ago, upon the islands of Axios, the daemon Metzli chose to search for a race in which that could serve her wills. She found the apes quite an amusing bunch, so she chose to turn a certain ape, Hou-Shen, into a sentient being who could lead the new race that she plotted to create. As Hou-Shen became stronger and more powerful through help of Metzli, who gave him a jade crown and told him to become a prophet of his people, but he must obey Metzli or else she would take away the new found prosperity of the Hou-Zi. The Hou-Zi expanded and devolped at a rapid rate, causing their terriotry to expand as well. This, however, would cause several conflicts with the elves of Axios who lived within the lands at the same time. War was declared between the Hou-Zi and the Ancient Kingdom of Malinor over Hou-Zi expansion. Unfortuantely, during a great battle between the Hou-Zi and elves, Hou-Shen was killed in battle due to an offensive that was led personally by him. Hou-Shen's spirit was luckily caught by the Daemon Metzli, and he was reincarnated into a new form that was much more powerful than before. Due to disputes between the elves, the ancient Malinorians had split apart, leaving an opening for the Hou-Zi to invade the realms of the elves. The war, though originally in their favor, was soon lost as the elves united to fight against a common enemy, and the three sons of Hou-Shen died in a large battle. Fleeing to his capital, Hou-Shen was offered by the elves that they would let his people live if he were to not expand anymore, adn if he were to remain within the jungles of Asul. Hou-Shen agreed, and he remained within the jungles of Asul for over five-hundred years. During this time, Hou-Zi nobles fought against each other over wealth and power in feuds known as the Jade Wars. After hundreds of years of bearing the weight of defeat upon his shoulders, Hou-Shen left his people as he walked off into the jungle, never to be seen again. The Hou-Zi society then began to collapse into chaos. The Hou-Zi were forced to return to their primitive stage, and Metzli abandoned the Hou-Zi. Despite these times of tribulation, the Hou-Zi  continued to carry on, leaving room for the Hou-Zi to attempt to rebuild the civilization that they once had lost.

     

    The Fei-Zhu

    The Fei-Zhu are slender Hou-Zi with quite beautiful fur color that varies in many different colors. The Fei-Zhu are well known for their respect for the arts and other scholarly pursuits that involve the pursuit of knowledge. The Fei-Zhu are around five and a half feet to six and half feet tall, weighing at around one-hundred to two-hundred pounds. They are known to live from 250 to 300 years, living much longer than most common Hou-Zi. The Fei-Zhu tend to follow the path of Shenjiao, the path of worshiping the god king and his three sons.

    Malevolence: Prelude

    Ser Philip de Honneur wipes sweat from his brow as his sheathes his sword, his Arborian companions beside him. He turns to his comrades with a smile on his face. His bright green eyes glowing with pride as he stated, “A disorganized battle, I must say, but even without organization, we were able to defend Atlas, temporarily, from a dark demise.” He signs the cross of Lorraine before placing his fist over his heart in an Arborian salute. “May all Descendants know that, on this day, the end of Atlas was halted. Perhaps, with more organization, we will be able to push the forces of evil completely away from our lands.”  He shakes hands with several survivors before leaving upon horseback, headed for Arbor, and his child, Juliet.
