Byzantium (Turkish Republic)
Constantinople, 1940.
Benjamin (Βενιαμíν), Patriarch of Constantinople meets with religious figures and generals that fought in the 1937 Coup to discuss the future of the country. A version of the constitution has been partly written and is being discussed. The constitution aims to enforce religious and cultural unity and power upon the population.
Nationality
The Turkish flag, Turkish national music, and symbols have all been deemed illegal. The flag has been replaced by the Greek Orthodox Church's flag. The country has declared itself Byzantium, and has requested the populace to propose a national anthem for the country.
Culture
The question stood as to what will be done with the Turkish population. Propositions from co-existence to genocide have been made but the government decided on enforcing the Greek culture upon the population through means such as banning the Turkish language, dictionaries, and holidays, as well as providing benefits to those who integrate themselves into their new society.
Military
The military remains in a mobilised state with the army occupying major cities which is unlikely to be changed. The military is being re-organised to suit the needs of the nation better and allowing for armament of the church. Two years of conscription is a requirement for all male students graduating from secondary education.
Education
Education has been kept largely the same with minor transitions to the western/British model as well as split education for men and women. Education will use local languages for primary education and Greek for secondary education with post-secondary education only being offered in Greek. Religious courses have been made a requirement for all levels of education, and courses on the English, Latin, and Russian languages being offered throughout education. Private, non-secular institutions are allowed, though they must follow strict regulations.
These meetings are expected to last for no more than another year, though there may be unforeseen issues in the future.
Other
Members of the previous Turkish government including military generals have been declared enemies of the state with an unknown number of them including President Ismet Inonu and Prime Minister Refik Saydam being executed.
The Holy Roman Empire's offer to liberate their Greek lands is accepted and Byzantine soldiers are deployed to keep the peace in the area.
