The Clinical Society of Saint Julia
A Pillar of Clinical Excellence and Charitable Service
The Society of Saint Julia stands as a distinguished institution committed to both the advancement of medical care and the provision of compassionate, life-saving support to those in need. Based in Portoregne, the capital of the Kingdom of Balian, the Society operates primarily from the Valley of Grace Clinic, the kingdom’s primary medical facility. Its mission is twofold: to extend healthcare services to the underserved and to cultivate the progress of medical knowledge, encompassing both physical and mental health, for the collective betterment of society.

Historical Foundation
Driven by a desire to ensure that all citizens of Balian, regardless of their status, had access to quality healthcare, King Adrian I established the Valley of Grace Clinic, which served as a vital healthcare institution situated within the revitalized capital. The clinic was designed to be a symbol of hope and progress, combining the kingdom's best physicians, healers, and scholars in one institution. It quickly became the foremost medical establishment in the kingdom, offering both traditional and magical treatments. Under royal patronage, the Valley of Grace Clinic grew to be a cornerstone of Balian’s healthcare system, embodying the crown’s commitment to the well-being of its people. It was within these walls that the Society of Saint Julia has continued to thrive, with a resolute commitment to healing the wounded and advancing the practice of medicine throughout the Kingdom of Balian.

Organizational Structure and Key Roles
The Society of St. Julia is structured into distinct departments, each tasked with a specific aspect of patient care, medical education, and research. Below is an outline of the Society’s key roles, accompanied by descriptions of their responsibilities
Medico Anziano | Head of Clinic
The Medico Anziano is the authoritative head of the clinic, overseeing its operations and ensuring the smooth functioning of all aspects of medical care. This includes managing resources, supervising clinical staff, developing educational programs for apprentices, and directing the strategic vision of the clinic. Laurelie Celine d’Arkent currently holds this prestigious position, leading the clinic with expertise and a steadfast commitment to its mission.
Vizio Medico | Deputy Head
The Vizio Medico serves as the deputy to the Medico Anziano, stepping into the leadership role in their absence. In addition to providing support in the day-to-day running of the clinic, the Vizio Medico is responsible for recruiting new apprentices, conducting interviews with prospective physicians, and assisting with administrative functions. This vital role ensures the continuity of the clinic’s operations and supports the Medico Anziano in their leadership.
Head of Departments
Each specialized department within the clinic is headed by a Head of Department, who oversees the operations within their designated area. These department heads coordinate with the clinical society’s leadership to ensure their policies and practices are upheld. They are tasked with training apprentices, providing instruction in their respective specialties, and overseeing examinations. Together with the Medico Anziano and Vice Medico, the Heads of Department form a governing council that plays a central role in guiding the clinic’s day-to-day activities.
Alchemists
Alchemists within the Society specialize in the preparation and application of medicinal potions and remedies derived from alchemical practices. They maintain the clinic’s stock of essential healing concoctions for use by all of the physicians. Alchemists also work in tandem with the Herbalists to ensure that the clinic is adequately stocked with medicinal herbs, carefully cultivating and harvesting them for use in treatments.
Combat Medics
Combat Medics are highly trained professionals who provide urgent medical care to those injured in battle or combat situations. These medics are on the front lines, responding swiftly to stabilize the injured and administer life-saving treatments in chaotic and dangerous environments. Their expertise in triage and rapid response are unmatched and make them essential in times of conflict.
Herbalists
Herbalists are experts in the use of medicinal plants and herbs. They possess extensive knowledge of plant-based remedies, harvesting, cultivating, and preparing herbs for therapeutic use. Herbalists are expected to carry essential herbs with them while on duty, using them as needed to treat patients in various conditions. They work most closely with Alchemists, who also frequently make use of the life-saving flora.
Midwives
Midwives are physicians who specialize in the care of expectant mothers and the delivery of children. They provide prenatal care, assist during labor, and manage complications that may arise during childbirth. Midwives must maintain a calm and focused demeanor in high-stress situations, as they are responsible for the well-being of both the mother and the child during this critical time.
Pediatricians
Pediatricians focus on the care of children, from infancy through adolescence. Though all physicians are capable of treating children, pediatricians are particularly skilled in addressing the unique needs of young patients. They are adept at comforting and communicating with children effectively, often making them the preferred caregivers for pediatric concerns. Pediatricians are also trained to recognize and treat common childhood ailments.
Physicians
Physicians, also referred to as General Practitioners, are the cornerstone of the clinic’s medical care. These individuals possess broad knowledge across a wide spectrum of medical practices, treating patients with various conditions. Though they may not specialize in any one particular area, general physicians are expected to continuously expand their knowledge and stay current with advancements in medical science to provide the best possible care.
Therapists
Therapists within the Society specialize in mental health, focusing on the psychological well-being of patients. They treat conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, among many others. These physicians must possess strong emotional resilience and empathy, as they work with patients facing significant mental and emotional challenges. Apprentices in this field are trained to handle sensitive, confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
