Varan Atmorice would chuckle readjusting his new purple cloth looking up to the hanging body. “He cried like a little ***** when we cut him down. I do hope the stupid ***** sends more of her little minions to meet the Ivae’Fenn’s flurry of blades. Now we know what she plans, how long does she think she can keep doing this before recieving another axe to the head? Hopefully by me this time. An arcane breatplate, formed around a mana gem meant to be secured to one’s person. It’d shimmer with a magical glow, its capabilities expansive. To see full information, check Arcanist’s Breatplate in the Magic Artifacts section of the fourms
Effect(s) of the Artifact:
The artefact allows the user to utilize an arcane mass bound to a charged mana gem, which in turn is bound to the caster by any form of harness to the chest. This mass of arcane evocation is in its ‘default’ state akin to a breastplate, acting as improvisable armor when not being used in its ‘limb’ form. When the user desires, the arcane breastplate reshapes from its form-fitting armor shape to a more fluid, limb-like structure, the evoked arcane energies now being able to be utilized like regular arcanism, without the need to spend time casting it from scratch. However, it is limited to a certain melee range, and cannot fire off beams, orbs, missiles, or any other ranged attack that’d require separation from the main mass and its connection to the mana gem, much akin to a shade being unable to control amber separate from their connection. In this state, the arcane evocation can do things such as form dense bars that jut out, whip-like fluid strands, or flail-like masses with a less dense ‘rope’ connecting back to the main mass by the chest, with a denser orb at the end of it. This allows the user to choose between leaving it as a relatively weightless aside from the gem body armor piece, or a fairly far reaching melee weapon without needing to spend time casting, or risking one’s own limb with the trade off of it damaging the user if the arcane energy is shattered when in its default breastplate form, overusing it in prolonged combat resulting in depletion of mana from its fuel source, or having the extremities of any shaped evocation being removed due to a separation at points with low density.

Armor is not invulnerable, nor are any parts that are denser and less wispy. It can and will break if overexerted in combat against physical force.

Requires an additional mental magic enchant to connect the user’s mind to the evoked arcanism. Cannot just be done without this prior connection, unless it is to be left in a wispy, formless state hovering around the mana gem, which would be mostly if not completely useless and redundant.

Will become increasingly useless if mana gem is damaged, and entirely if destroyed.

Can be severely drained of power if warded/abjured against arcanism.

Can be rendered unable to change its form if warded/abjured against mental magic.

Cannot fire off ranged attacks such as orbs/missiles, at least not without permanently losing that bit of the overall mass until refuelled, akin to atronachs.

Cannot be used effectively past a range of 5 meters in any direction if used in its limb-like state, at full or almost full charge.

User must have some knowledge of conjuration in order to use the limb-like state in the shape of a hand, or any similar form. If not, then the user is limited to basic arcanism lore for its available shapes and forms, such as whips.

A mental barrier being up would render the limb part in its uncontrolled, immobile state. Also, clarification that it's choosing one or the other. Either you can fight off mental mages, or use the artifact.
Explanation of the effect(s) (i.e. how it does what it does - slight bending of magic lore is allowed):
The Arcanist’s Breastplate is powered by a fairly large, yet still easily portable and attachable mana gem embedded into any form of harness or similar object on the user’s person, most likely the middle of the torso on either the front or back. First, an arcanism enchantment is done to provide the area surrounding the gem with enough evoked energy to effectively form the armor, and its limb state. Then, a mental magic enchant must be weaved into the gem-encrusted center, connecting the arcanism to the user’s mind, or it’d be redundant and be merely a cloud of wisps. From there, the connected mind to the artefact determines the ‘base’ shape of the arcane evocation to take the shape of armor to adequately fit their person. Any excess energy not used in the armor shape lingers around in its wisplike state. Then the connected mind has free reign over the state of the arcanism, be it the armor state, a free floating wispy state, or the limb-like state, limited by the user’s knowledge of arcanism shapes and able to be used as a third limb provided an adequate knowledge of conjuration.
