How do you avoid powergaming in roleplay?: Player: *Pushes opponent off a cliff, dooming them to fall and killing them instantly* This is powergaming because no attempt to allow their opponent to emote is made, and no permission is given from the other party. You can avoid this type of low quality RP by giving equal opportnity to react to your emote to each individual involved.
How does metagaming disrupt fair roleplay?: Metagaming is defined as using information not available to your player character in cases of RP, including outside knowledge that you as a person might have, even if your character in game has no knowledge of this information. This can be avoided by only utilizing information readily available to your character through valid RP means.

You’ve just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As you look around, your gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. You duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? she begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

((How do you respond?))

Example: "Sorry! Wrong tent!" *Fearful of the magic that was displayed, as well as the mysterious atmosphere of the area I have found myself in, I attempt to make a swift exit from the tent.* "Floating Candles? Not for me!"

*As I turn around to exit the tent, the entranceway suddenly closes before my eyes, making me unable to leave*

*The hag repeats herself, this time in a less friendly, more commanding tone* "Tell me your story."

*Fearful for my life, and seeing as I do not have another way out, I oblige the hag, hoping that the quicker I tell her my story, the quicker I can leave.*

"I am Greido, a newcomer to these lands, looking for work."
