Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”

Edric Valeborne pauses for dramatic effect, tilting his head as a crooked grin spreads across his face. He pulls back his hood, shaking out his silver-streaked hair with a flourish. "Ah, you’ve been expecting me? Brilliant! I do love a grand entrance," he exclaims, stepping forward with an exaggerated twirl before flopping onto the cushion.
Leaning in conspiratorially, he lowers his voice, his gray eyes gleaming in the candlelight. "Now, my story. It’s a tale of betrayal, heartbreak, and—oh yes—sword fights! Once upon a time, I was a a well renowned mercenary in quite a large group of the most vile scum around. We became rich off our skills of taking out those who needed to disappear. I had a fancy title, a fancy horse, and a rather ridiculous feather in my helmet. But then, dear hag, the leader of out little bunch did what most leaders do best—stabbed me in the back, metaphorically speaking, though I wouldn’t put it past him to try literally."
His smile falters for just a moment before he masks it with another playful smirk. "So, what does a disgraced mercenary do? Well i go solo, obviously, I put on a dramatic hood, start wandering, and make a living slaying things that go bump in the night. Or in the day. I don’t discriminate." He leans back, tapping his chin. "And somewhere along the way, I found that if you act a bit mad, people either underestimate you—or start running. Both are terribly useful in my line of work."
Edric clasps his hands together and leans forward. "But enough about me. You knew I was coming. Which means you have a story to tell too. And I do love a good story."
