Van Winkle is a self-taught author and poet. In the words of the great artists and authors of his time, some might say that his works lack quality and talent. That said, he endures in his profession (to his acquaintances' chagrin). Considering his background, van Winkle has only risen in status and wealth (though not by much). As a young boy, his earliest memories of Axios and the Kingdom of Santegia-Haria are wandering the streets of Presa de Madera as a beggar. His first stories (and source of inspiration) were illustrations in books he would borrow after sneaking into the city's library. One particular fascination van Winkle has yet to grow out of is his obsession with searching for and documenting mythical creatures: unicorns in particular. John van Winkle currently makes his living writing children's books, which feature a smattering of his whimsical nature and penchant for far too many adjectives and adverbs.
