In your own words, what is powergaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Metagaming is the use of information obstained through out-of-character discussion - such as on messaging services (Discord, Steam etc) - to plan, orchestrate, warn or to otherwise gain an advantage over roleplay situations to the benefit of your character and others. An example would be warning your friend on discord that there are search parties looking for him after someone witnessed a crime that they did.
In your own words, what is metagaming, and why should it be avoided in roleplay?: Powergaming is the undertaking of unrealistic actions without due consideration for others in an effort to gain an unfair advantage during roleplay. An example would be emoting the action and the consequence in the same message; preventing the other person from responding and instead dictating to them the flow and story of the roleplay.

It could also be seen in characters who are devoid of vices or imperfections and are iinstead bastions of knowledge and strength without weakness, I:E the Superman Problem.

Gregor Earnhardt was born in Redenford into a knight's family left reeling on hard times. His father, Heimlin Earnhardt, had fallen out of favour with his leige lord having broken his vow of service in battle against the Empire of Renatus during the War of Two Emperors. and had been left to languish without patronage. His father, an overbearing and disgruntled tyrant at the best of times; made sure to put Gregor to work from a very young age to contribute to his family's upkeep. Finding work as a messegeboy and porter for the local bakery and blacksmith... Gregor soon learnt to detest manual labour and to enjoy the brief reprieve his little schooling afforded him. His mother, a surprisingly learned lady, encouraged him in this more academic pursuit. It was his mother who convinced another local knight to take Gregor under his wing as a squire when he turned 14 years old. This was a role he found much more to his liking but none the less regimental and tiresome at day's end. A knight's life he felt was not his destiny, merely a starting point to earn his keep in the world. His real passion lent itself more to the pursuit of learning and acquiring of knowledge; being an avid reader of all manner of literature. Gregor growing up got on well with other people. His kind and honest personality endeared him to many. However it also left him open to those with less sincere motives, often requiring his older brother to "sort" them out.

Gregor has only one sibling, that of his older brother and closest confidant, Jean. Gregor looked up to Jean and aspired to be as brave and adventurous as him.  Although never quite as imposing as Jean, Gregor made an attempt to throw his weight around when he saw some of the local bullies picking on the blacksmith's daughter and intervened. Much to his detriment, as the bullies shifted their focus to him and proceeded to enact brutal retribution for his defiance of them. Gregor's friends at the time, for fear of their own physical safety, made their escape and thus leaving Gregor to his fate. It was Jean that found Gregor beaten and bruised in a dark alleyway and returned him home. Gregor's father was none too impressed with Gregor, and scolded him for intervening and bringing shame to the family's name. For his own good, or so his Father claimed - much to the protestation of his mother - he was to be sent away from Radenford upon his 18th birthday and seek employment elsewhere in a bid to redeem himself in his family's eyes. His brother, seeking his own fortunes far from home decided to accompany Gregor further enraging their father, who, in heated words, renounced them and forbade them from returning until he was upon his deathbed.

Gregor and Jean now find themselves on an unchartered course, with many things yet to experience they are eager to strike out and seek their place in this world.
