Your character has just arrived in a swampy, dim town. As they look around, their gaze is met with shacks and cabins. It smells of rotted wood and wet moss. They duck and step into a tattered tent, illuminated by a series of candles suspended in the air. At the back of the tent, an old hag raises her head, “What brings you to this dingy town? She begins, then pauses to study your face—”Ah, it’s you. I’ve been expecting you. Sit,” she gestures at a cushion, “Tell me your story.”
"Have you deary?" Romeo Kresinger smiled with a hidden darkness, his yellow teeth straining together in a disturbing grin. He swiftly stormed towards the cushion and sat down. "I must say, you don't look a day over twenty-five!" Romeo flirted, leaning his back against the cushion with his arms wrapped around his knees. "Stories, ay?~" Romeo turned his head to look at both corners of the old hag's tent. "Hmmm, oh! I think I have one you will like!"
"War, such a haaaaaarrowing thing, isn't it?" Romeo nodded his head gently, his grin now a subtle smile "I was once a performer for a king, many, many years ago, a jester if you will!" Romeo looked up at the old hag, waiting for a response, but received none."You wouldn't know about it, it was a very small kingdom but with a great military force." Romeo added on, addressing the kingdom as a small pond in a vast ocean. "The King was not one of peacekeeping but was dull and reckless. He had his knights repeatedly raid Orc Outposts for their resources, unbeknownst to the rest of the kingdom...including my family." Romeo's head shocked to the right side of the floor, noticing a small cricket crawling on his hooked shoes. "The Orcs had enough, they requested that my king cease raiding their outposts or face annihilation." Romeo continued, picking up the cricket from off his shoe, bringing it close to his face to inspect it as it desperately tried to wiggle out from his fingers.
"He declined the Orcs' request...and the whole kingdom had to pay for it." Romeo's right eye twitched softly, his nose shifting to the right as he sniffled, looking back down at the ground while his messy brown hair curtained his gaze. "Disaster struck, the sounds of screaming peasants filling the kingdom, I begged for the king to relieve me of my performing duties to save my family, but he requested i would stay in the castle and let his knights handle the Orcs." Romeo's lips began to twitch and curl into half a smile, the cricket between his thumb and index finger squirming more and chirping, hopelessly gnawing at Romeo's fingers but to no reaction. "The Orcs won the confrontation, sparing us and the kingdom, as rebuilding and repopulating alone would be fit punishment for such a small kingdom."
Romeo reached into his pocket, pulling out a small, leather flask filled with a musky, fermented liquid, replenishing his dried throat. "I was granted permission to leave the king's castle once the Orcs had left with their stolen treasures, I tore off my bright red and yellow, jester suit with orange pompoms and raced back to my small, poor cottage in ruins..." Romeo's eyes began to flash of the events that happened years prior, his eyes welling up, but no tears would sprint down his face, blood beginning to drip from his index finger as the cricket gnawed at it. "And uhh...i- i- i searched through pieces of cobblestone and wooden frames that used to hold up the roof in search for my wife and daughter and then...i saw something...an arm!" Romeo's fingers began to gently apply pressure onto the cricket, squirming and gnawing at Romeo's fingers harder.
"It was my wife! I saw the ring that i had given her all those years ago, she was there!" Romeo's smirk turned into a large grin, tears streaming down his face. "And then i pulled on her arm to get her out from the rubble and..." Romeo paused, finally crushing the cricket in-between his index finger and thumb, creating a sickening crunch. His mind flashing with images of both his wife and daughter's lifeless bodies under the rubble, clenching his jaw together that almost broke his already decaying teeth. "Hah...and...anyway..." Romeo brought the crushed cricket to his lips and threw it into his mouth like it was a grape, chewing greedily.
"So anyway! I left in search of a nice, dark area, such as this lovely swamp! I'm here to study and learn some...particular arts, and perform for the king one last time." Romeo smiled.
